We love coming here. Any time we camp down the road at the state park this is a must stop for us! Beers are wonderful and we have always had tremendous service. The food they have is excellent as well. Highly recommend the garlic cheese curds.
My wife and I absolutely loved this place! We’re not from Sulphur Springs—we were just in town for the day and happened to stumble upon this brewery, and wow, what a find. From the moment we walked in through the old cooler door and seen then old ice house, the staff greeted us with smiling faces. They even took us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the brewery and showed us how everything is made, which was such a cool experience. On top of that, we got to take home a bottle of their chocolate vodka that they were literally making right in front of us—how awesome is that?! And thank you for the unlabeled beer (which I specifically asked for)… now we have some fun mystery drinks at home 🍻 We can’t wait to come back and try the food (we didn’t even realize they had some!) and to enjoy more great drinks—and that fascinating history lesson on the building was the cherry on top. Thank you for an unforgettable experience. We’ll definitely be back!!!
I have spent the last two weeks travelling from Dallas through Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, south Carolina, North Carolina and back. I have had a lot of amazing beer at many brew pubs. This is the best. The helles was great, the blonde was better. Crisp and delicious. The bock was a welcome back to Texas handshake to feel at home. The Octoberfest was divine. Great beer. The burger was excellent. Thank you and we will be back.
First off Josh was amazing and took great care of us. We stopped in when passing through town after finding the place on harvest hosts. They accommodated us and our RV very well, even was able to plug in the RV. The food actually caught me by surprise, prior to sitting down in their dining room I was expecting normal bar food. The selection was really good and everything we tried was cooked perfectly with amazing flavors. We started with their soup of the day which was a tomato bisque with a nice chili pepper twist to it, delicious. We split the bacon wrapped meatloaf and the picanha with chimichurri sauce and a side of fries. Everything tasted so good we couldn't help but eat it all except for the fries because they're were so many off them. We ended up reheating the fries with breakfast th morning after. Great work, we definitely will stop in again when we are rolling through. Had to come back and edit the post because the food made me forget about their beers. We tried several different ones a few of our favorites were the cowboy (kolsh), double dropkick (double IPA) and the fierce instigator (B.A. bock).
Oh my goodness....BEST burger I have EVER had. Even though I am paranoid and order well done, this burger was juicy and flavorful. I tasted every single item on this burger in one bite. Top notch beef, crispy lettuce, nice fresh red onion, pickles, and the mayo/mustard (I don't do tomatoes. ) MUUUUUAAAHHH. Get the potato skins, YUMMY!! Oh, and let's not forget what we came for, the BEER!! Got a tour of the facility and a tasting from the owner while we were waiting to order. Super cool establishment, and we will definitely make this a regular place to go. We had Cowboy and Strong Boch, delish. I chose Cowboy first, then went with the Strong Boch as my favorite, whimpy beer drinker here, but dang, it was good! Get here and have some beer and a burger!!!
We were visiting Sulphur Springs from Montreal Canada and had to stop in. This place is amazing! We sampled 8 different beers and loved every one! The young man (Austin) who gave us a tour was very knowledgeable and clearly loves his job. We ordered the southern poutine from Hops and Chops and it was excellent!! I will definitely come back.
We came to Backstory to view the eclipse. Not usually open on Monday, they had brought in live music and had a limited menu for snacking. I had a couple hazys and a gose, and tasted the stout. All were good. Super friendly staff, they allowed us in early so we could find a place on the large patio. Was a perfect place to see the eclipse. It didn't appear much advertising had occurred as very few people came. That was a bummer since being around a crowd would have made the viewing more fun. However, the beer was good and service great. If I am back in the area, I'll stop by again.
First time here last night while passing through. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My husband likes IPA’s and they gave him some great recommendations her was pleased with. Our waiter looked at me and asked what kinds of beer I typically like. Well I hesitated just enough and he realized “You don’t like beer do you?”. He suggested a seltzer they were working on that wasn’t yet on the menu. It was very good!! The food is what took me most by surprise. Definitely elevated and not typical brewery food! We had the Guacamole and chips and the Cajun shrimp. We will be back!!
The space is impressive - large, spacious, and well laid out. The patio area is so relaxing. How about the beer? It’s excellent. Each beer tastes different and served at just the right temperature. Service is some of the friendliest I have ever experienced. Who doesn’t like a brewery that gives a nod to the Dropkick Murphys? The Double Dropkick is so good, as is that sweet long sleeve hooded t-shirt for sale.
This place is Awesome Super Cool Staff- Amazing Food for Sure A must try- they have Live Music Great Atmosphere Get over there ASAP Telkem Trick sent you
Harvest Host stay for the 1st visit. Alex met me at the door and made an instant impression…..she’s the best hostess/waitress in Texas! Brews are great, and the food is out of this world! Only had to roll out to the camper after a great time at Hops & Chops!
Husband says great dark beer (BA Goodnight) and I had the Autumn Apple Gin Sour…the cinnamon makes the drink!! So yummy!

This is the Gem of Sulphur Springs, for us Beer lovers of course. First, typical brewery with great beer. But they one up it with a Wine and hard Seltzer selection, for the ladies in our lives that ma not be as keen on beer. Second, Live entertainment. Obviously depends on the night but live entertainment is always a plus and the gentleman playing the guitar tonight was great. Third, Charles. The proprietor was a great guy and worth a visit on his own. I love great bartenders and owners who love what they do, this is Charles. Finally, I was "That Guy" so I can say to all the others, just because they don't sell the mass market piss water, Breweries and craft beer is NOT a millennial thing. We Gen Xers started it and because we were being punk rock, going against the machine of BL, Miller, etc. If you want a good beer at a good price, try this place. It is a stand out in Sulpher Springs, which is an awesome place on it's own. And yes, I live here and run a Farm. Yes, a well traveled farmer boy can appreciate a good beer that does not make big corporate types richer and instead supports the local community. You need this place. Oh, before I forget, they will have food very soon (in days).
Sulphur Springs Texas is a really cute town worth a visit. But not unless you go to Back Story Brewery. Perfect location to park, get great brews and food and then stroll through town. We came here as Harvest Hosts and the accommodations were first rate. We were fortunate enough to get a 50amp hook up - first come first served. We’d come back in a heartbeat.
We came for dinner and glad we did! The staff are super friendly (thank you Alyssa C) and the menu is fantastic. I recommend the chicken sando. I don't know how they made the fried chicken so soft you could cut it with a fork, smothered with sweet hot honey. Unreal! The cocktails are well constructed and delicious. We heard the brunch menu is on another level which we must try.
Alyssa was a fantastic bartender, beer was excellent. Tried the sour and ordered another. Food and menu was also great. 10/10 would recommend
So good! Maleah was our server and she was so nice and helpful. The cheese curds are a must try! They have a nice indoor area and a huge outdoor space! We will definitely return!
The building is an old cold storage warehouse that's been converted into a fantastic brewery. The have a great beer selection, with a couple of options every one will enjoy. Great food selection, with some out of the ordinary options, all of it feels handcrafted by a passionate chef. 10/10 every one should try them
Phenomenal place amazing atmosphere in the most delicious Mexican lager I’ve had in a long time. They also have a building with that is made out of honey, and it is delicious. I will definitely be back and recommend.

The beers are great. My wife and I went for a beer and had appet Zeta on a Friday night it was amazing everything was cooked to perfection. We went back excited to have dinner on a Thursday night. Else reordered our favorite appetizer from the previous visit. The cheese curds were so over cooked half of them were missing cheese. The salmon my wife ordered was so oddly fishy for salmon. My burger was drowned in sauce and the patty had no flavor. It was a huge disappointment it went from amazing to terrible. My sons chicken strips were all pepper and over cooked.

I was very disappointed with the food. The venue is nice and clean, and when we arrived, there were only two other customers. We started with some appetizers, which were quite good, leading me to believe the main dishes would be just as enjoyable. I ordered a hamburger, while my husband chose the spare ribs, along with fries and cheese curds. Unfortunately, the main courses were far from satisfactory. I was honest with the waitress about my dissatisfaction, as neither of us could bring ourselves to eat much of our meals. The small bites we did manage to have made me feel unwell, and I spent the entire night battling heartburn and nausea. In the end, I still paid nearly $60 for subpar food, though the service was excellent. I’m unsure about their beer reviews, but for the food, I would rate it a 1 out of 10— and that’s only because the appetizers were good.
