Opinions de Swati Tiffins Sunnyvale
Had a wonderful experience at Swathi Tiffins, Sunnyvale. I tried the Mini Thali and a few other dishes, and every item tasted just like home food. The flavors were purely Andhra style. After many years, I finally found authentic South Indian Andhra taste in a restaurant. Loved it very much!
Very good authentic south Indian food. Idli, Mysore Bonda, Dosa, etc., was really tasty. Don’t think about the atmosphere or looks of this place. This place is serving good food at decent price. The sides such as chutney, sambar, etc., was also perfect.

Swathi Tiffins in Sunnyvale is my go-to spot for breakfast and evening tiffin, usually via DoorDash. My favorites are the idli, masala dosa, upma, and especially the Mysore bhaji—a unique offering that’s flavorful and reminiscent of North Karnataka. I’ve also tried the stuffed and cut mirchi, which carries the same North Karnataka touch, and the Vijayawada paneer biryani, which was tasty as well. The food is well-packed for delivery and always arrives fresh. 🥗 Quick Tip: Don’t miss the Mysore bhaji—it’s their hidden gem!
The items are tasty. It's a self service venue. Nice selection of south and north indian dishes. Next to the namasthe plaza. Idly sambar was good. Sambar was good. Vada could have been softer. Rave masala dosa, baby corn Manchurian and lassi was good and big. The price is reasonable. I strongly recommend it. The atmosphere is very casual.
Telugu style tiffins. Good food. Good service. Average atmosphere. They have a supermarket attached to them, that’s convenient. Parking is available. It’s not expensive.
Good vegetarian options and thalis. The place is neat and spacious. Service is slow, Quality is good and Quantity is adequate. This place is attached right next to Namaste Plaza. Mirchi bajji and chutneys are pretty nice. Authentic South Indian sweets are available here. Pricing is appropriate.

I think of Swathi tiffins mostly as a take out place although there are tables and chairs and we've eaten in a couple of times. It's really almost self serve for sit in, very basic. We mostly order take out. We really enjoy the food. It tends to be on the spicy side, but we enjoy the paneer biriyani, mirchi bajji, and their dosas/uthhappams are decent. We also really enjoy their peanut and tomato chutney accompaniments as well as salna. What I find a bit hard to tolerate is their overall service for take out. They'll often say pick up in 30m, you arrive 40m later, the order would still not be ready and you'll be waiting for another 10m or more (sometimes even when they don't seem particularly busy). Worse, at least 3 times now, for large orders, they end up leaving items out even _despite_ the extra wait. Short of opening and checking each item before leaving the premises, it seems there's no way to ensure you get your whole order. I find this aspect particularly galling: checking off a list of items should be a basic first principle for restaurants! 😩 (They do acknowledge and return charge for the missing items, but that's not enough.) If we didn't enjoy their food so much, we wouldn't still be going back. But we do enjoy the food so we put up with this.
The food here is incredibly delicious, especially their mushroom biryani. All the tiffins are authentic Indian and give a great vibe. However, the ambiance is not very good. It’s self-service, which is fine, but it would be better to place a pickup order.
It's hard to sing praises for a place that skates at the edge of functionality. Swathi Tiffins is yet another hole in the wall that strings together a mediocre decor with an expansive menu and average fares. The pesarettu was nice enough at first, but the peanut forward chutney and the alright-sambar did not carry this onion stuffed dish too far. The mysore bajjis were soft but quite uninteresting, similar to the Colombian pan de bonos! The thali and biriyani appeared interesting, and I may have to come back to see if their non-tiffins are any better.

4/5 Stars for food. 2/5 Stars for the women in the front desk. She needs to control her voice. We ordered Idly on a Saturday Afternoon and apparently found the idly is cold and asked to re heat it. She apparently says does the customer has the mind blah blah, in a rude way. She has a right to say she can do it or not but apparently she should not raise her voice on customer. This not the first time I see her raising voice I have seen her doing this with multiple customers multiple times.
The mysore masala dosa is pretty good, and the idlis are alright. While the food is good, the place could use some sprucing up, and the guy at the counter wasn't exactly mr. personality.
Swati Tiffins unfortunately left a lot to be desired during my visit. While I must admit that their Mysore bajji stood out as a positive note, the experience was marred by several disappointing aspects. The veg uttapam and special idli did manage to salvage some semblance of satisfaction, but that's where the positives largely ended. The kara dosa was a major letdown, characterized by an unpleasant taste that left me quite dissatisfied. The sambhar, unfortunately, didn't manage to redeem the situation either. Despite the chutneys accompanying the Mysore bajji being a saving grace, they couldn't compensate for the overall subpar culinary experience. The ambiance was an additional disappointment, with a lackluster setting that didn't enhance the dining experience. The unclean tables, even after requesting a cleanup, reflected a lack of attention to basic hygiene, further contributing to the unfavorable impression. All things considered, I can only muster a 2.5-star rating for Swati Tiffins. The potential showcased by the Mysore bajji and the chutneys unfortunately wasn't enough to outweigh the shortcomings in various other aspects.
This place used to be a Bay Area institution but it’s really hard to keep going back because of the bad service. The mushroom biryani is really really good and highly recommend it, but the buck stops there. Even for a simple 1 or 2 biryani order - either dine in or pickup - it takes a hour easily. I have had instances where is has taken 1.5 hours for pickup when the promised time was 20 mins. Dining in has always been a joke - un clean tables and no attention to keep the seating clean in anyway possible is quite shocking. I hope they improve because of the items are actually good.

We love the paneer biryani and stuffed bajji, but the service is terrible, you can stare at the person at the billing counter and they would still not respond, extremely annoying service, I would wait 10 mins for my to go order which would be ready but the person would just not do their job. This has happened atleast 3-4 times recently. We never faced such things with the people who were working here previously but since the person with the glasses and the other person have come in, it’s just terrible and insensitive. Never coming back here till you guys change these people!
This whole thing went into trash. To be honest the whole place is like trash. I came here for breakfast and they are cleaning the floor with a high concentrate soap(which they should be doing night before closing) and the place smells so horrible. Couldnt sit there for a minute. Ordered a Rava onion dosa(which is supposed to be crispy) its soggy and not fresh. Only thing good was sambar. Had two cups of it and thats all. Too worst experience.
The idly was not fresh and seemed cooked long ago, and the bonda was as hard as a stone.”
Swathi Tiffins was a disappointing experience, with below-average food and poor ambience. South Indian Thali: The South Indian Thali was outright bad – so bad that I couldn’t even finish it. The food was overly masala-rich, completely overpowering the actual flavors of the dishes. Some of the curries were bland and practically inedible. I honestly regretted ordering it. Service: The service was okay, but nothing special to make up for the subpar food and overall experience. Ambience: The ambience was pathetic. The place felt very dirty and unkempt, which added to the unpleasant experience. Swathi Tiffins needs serious improvements in both food quality and cleanliness. I wouldn’t recommend it based on my visit.
Save your self and skip this place. This place is a Bay Area institution. Had been here for ages, but when you walk in you realize that it has been ages since they cleaned this place. There are cobwebs and grime next to dining places. The restroom is an abomination. The only thing that used to be good was the food, (“sundar and sasta” not true any more)
Went to this place while we were in the neighbourhood around the lunch time and raining. The menu looked good so went on to order medu vada spring dosa and masala dosa and boy it was so awful. 1. The place is absolutely trashy dirty unclean unhygienic. 2. The tables were all with left over food by other people. 3. The staff doesn’t wash their hands after cleaning the table (when you have to call them to clean) 4. The service is really poor. 5. The quality of the food is really bad. 6. It’s a eatery for god’s sake use better cutlery and utensils it feels cheap eating out of a paper plate. 7. The medu vada was literally raw uncooked batter on the inside. The dosa as hard as it can be. 8. Cheap plastic ware is used not food grade. That said if you can avoid going here just save yourself

Very disappointed with the latest experience. Have always loved the vijayawada paneer biryani here and buy it once a month or so, but this time around it was really really bad. Almost 0 masala in the biryani, it feels like just paneer and flavored rice they put at the top. The accompanying salan is also very watery, so it is not flavorful at all.
We ordered Supreme Thali and Veg Biryani. The restaurant was very dirty and they didn't even bother to clean the tables after a customer left. The floor was very dirty too probably not cleaned for a long time. They should maintain atleast minimum hygiene during this Covid times. Veg Biryani we ordered was simply rice with carrot, beans and was very oily. It was more like Ghee Rice and not Biryani. After reading reviews we had lot of expectations on Supreme Thali. The Thali looked good but there was a hair in Masala Rice(so called Biryani) and it was disgusting. A place that has dirty tables, floor and food was unhygienic too. We had to discard entire bowl of Masala Rice. Chapati,Papad were fresh.Pakora looked like it was stale and they refried it and forgot to drain oil. Rasam,Sambar were tasteless,Dal was ok. Paneer curry was too sweet, Vermicelli kheer was ok. White Rice contained soda probably and it gave me bloating and cramps. All the curries were loaded with lots of oil. This place didn't serve good food neither was hygienic. We are never going back there. No one deserves to eat in unhygienic place and unhygienic food.
It’s not really a place where you can sit and eat, the ambience and cleanliness is not very hygienic. I was soo disappointed to sit and eat here. They forgot to give me my coffee, it was only after i asked i received it. Their Mysore dosa was not at good, it had a chutney instead of the masala.
I had a very bad experience here. The tiffin was served with spoiled chutney, which is extremely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about food quality and hygiene. When I pointed it out, I was asked if I wanted a replacement, but the real issue is that spoiled food was given to a customer in the first place. Food safety should never be compromised. This was highly disappointing, and I hope strict quality checks are followed so other customers do not face the same
The place is unpretentious indeed, to the point of being off-putting. The service was horribly slow, the people uninterested and uncommunicative. After waiting 25 minutes for a sambar vada, we received something that looked like a frozen shriveled vada dipped in hot sambar. We complained and it seemed unsure what they were going to do since they nodded and went back into the kitchen. Checking back after 10 minutes made us know they were trying to redo the dish. We waited for another 10 mins, and decided to leave after throwing everything in the trash.
Very bad experience. No taste, no welcoming atmosphere and no fresh food, almost all the stuff we ordered. Poori is undercooked, punugulu is worst, and remaining are also not at all worthy. We couldn’t complain more as there are almost all are flop. We literally could not eat to-go orders as well and felt bad to throw the food like that. Deeply disappointed.
The front desk girl is extremely unprofessional and rude. She has no basic courtesy when speaking to customers and completely ignores people standing in front of her. She clearly does not value anyone’s time and seems more interested in being on her phone than doing her job. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and reflects very poorly on the business. I am very disappointed with the service
I ordered a plate of idli and vada through DoorDash, but the food didn’t taste good and wasn’t fresh.
