this place was busy on a friday night! enjoyed all the food and the service was great too. my favorite thing flavor-wise was the golden era special. I also really enjoyed the eggplant clay pot (the eggplant was cooked to be so soft!) and the lemon basil fried rice was great. the tomato favorite seemed to be fish-mimicky tofu which was good (though maybe still tofu). only thing i wouldn’t order again is the curry noodle vermicelli thing, since the noodles were a bit softer than i would like
This has been our go to place for the past 6 years we've lived in the area. The food always tastes freshly made and it is filling. There was only one time where the plate we ordered didn't match the photo - it had very little broccoli in comparison to photo on menu. Other than that - most of their dishes are amazing. We often do the same yet every now and then try other dishes. Our to to is the golden rolls, spicy noodle soup, thai basil fried rice and jalapeno BBQ Seitan. We often stop in also to buy their vegan jerky which is great for camping trips or as a snack on the plane. Fair warning...it gets really busy during lunch hour yet the wait isn't long. We tend to order pickup for dinner or if we go for lunch, we go a little past 1:30p when it isn't so packed. So you see - being packed is a GOOD PROBLEM to have as it proves that the food is fantastic and service is great in a cozy atmosphere! Even if you are not vegan, I highly recommend a visit. All my friends and family who visit from out of states are not vegan and they LOVE it as well!
This place is AMAZING! Every single plate was so delicious. My family of six along with our BFF’s decided to come here as the wifey’s jus got off of a fasting/diet program and the program insisted on only eating veggies, no meat! Well, we looked up places online and came here and we just had a blast with every single detail from the moment we walked into the door, ordering food with the waitress, and prompt plate delivery. We totally experienced the quality of food and white glove service as the owner came out to check in on us to make sure we were satisfied with everything. The owner was super humble and chatted with us to share what made their restaurant so successful. The entire staff was on point and we would absolutely refer this restaurant to anyone that enjoys eating food period. The soup, the soybean meat, veggies, just everything was a 10/10. Great job Ai Hoa and Team, keep up the hard work :)
This review is from someone who eats meat and seafood and enjoys food at restaurants very often. I love every dish I've had at Merit Vegan over the last many years. Tonight we had the Golden Rolls vermicelli plate and the vegetable chow fun. Go to Merit Vegan, try any of their dishes and you'll know what I mean.
I ate here (or got delivery from here) every single day of my week long silicon valley trip. I tried something different every time and they were all delicious! The staff is so lovely and friendly, they even lent me a charging block when I had just arrived from the airport and desperately needed one 🥺 special shout-out to the super friendly waiter who always brightens my day with his “hi friend!” 😊
Merit Vegan Restaurant is easily one of the best vegan restaurants in the Bay Area! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish bursts with taste and creativity from their crispy spring rolls and clay pot dishes to the delicious curries and noodle soups, everything is made with care. The staff are warm and attentive, and the atmosphere is calm and welcoming perfect for both casual meals and family dinners. I especially appreciate how they manage to make every dish feel hearty and satisfying without relying on heavy sauces or artificial flavors. Whether you’re vegan or not, this place is a gem. Highly recommend trying their spicy lemongrass tofu, Golden rolls, and seaweed soup all incredible!
Merit Vegan is the best vegan Asian food in South Bay, hands down! I've been several times and the food is always fresh and delicious. The staff is polite and the food comes so quickly. Prices are reasonable and affordable. The restaurant atmosphere is clean and pleasant. I wish I lived closer. Photo is of the spicy noodle soup, absolutely delicious.
My kids' absolute favorite place. Giant menu with lots of good stuff and they are also flexible to make changes. Of course their favorite thing is the delicious deserts - from Oreo cheesecake to brownie with ice cream. And the best thing is that this place is 100% vegan. We've been regulars for years and we also order whole cakes from them for birthday parties.
Merit Vegan Restaurant is a hidden gem for anyone looking to enjoy delicious plant-based food. The menu is packed with flavorful, satisfying options that even non-vegans would love. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared, and the portions were generous. One standout item was the avocado shake—absolutely awesome! Creamy, perfectly sweet, and refreshing. It’s a must-try and really elevated the whole meal. Service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was calm, clean, and welcoming. The staff made sure we were comfortable without being intrusive, which added to the relaxed dining experience. Prices are reasonable given the quality, and the variety of dishes makes it easy to find something for every palate. Whether you’re a longtime vegan or just curious, Merit Vegan delivers a delicious and satisfying experience. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu when I'm back in this area.
Been here a couple times already and yeah if you’re vegetarian or vegan, this place is the one. Like, stop scrolling, this is it. Tons of variety. Like, the kind of menu where you stare at it for 10 minutes thinking, am I hungry or just emotionally unprepared to make a decision? Had the spicy noodle soup before fantastic. Fresh spring rolls? Honestly hard to beat. But this time I went for the house special rice clay pot and it blew me away. Full of flavor, perfectly balanced, and straight-up comfort food for the soul. Also tried the BBQ gluten vermicelli refreshing and super flavorful. Doesn’t even feel like “vegetarian food,” it just tastes good. Showed up on a Saturday around 2pm thinking I could sneak in between the lunch rush…absolutely wrong. The place was packed. But for good reason. This is definitely one of those spots you keep coming back to just to explore the menu. Every dish feels like a new main character.
Heaven for vegans, that's all I can say. I had dinner there with my friend the other day, all their dishes were delicious, the soup was made with a very good broth, the clay pot rice/noodle was amazingly seasoned and the hazelnut chocolate cake was a true treat at the end. Not only vegan, but plenty of GF options as well.
Good 👍 - The restaurant is spacious and comfortable. - Dishes are served quickly. - The chowmain, chowfen, and fried rice are cooked over high heat, giving them a great aroma and perfectly balanced flavors. Other notes: - There are only a few staff members, and the restaurant gets very crowded, so customers may need to wait patiently. - The lotus root salad mostly consists of cabbage, is a bit sour, but still quite tasty. => A vegetarian restaurant with a diverse menu and well-seasoned dishes. The comfortable seating makes it a great spot for gathering with friends or family.
I was thrilled to find a vegan restaurant around the southern Bay Area, and this one was at a convenient location. After visiting here, I would definitely recommend it as an economical option for anyone that wants to enjoy decent southeast Asian vegan food! Almost every dish was below $15 which made it really affordable, on top of what I had being extremely tasty! The establishment's slogan about promoting vegan dining is very clear, and as much as I am not vegan myself, I love it when veganism is available as an option. As a result, I ordered the eggplant tofu clay pot, which was amazingly delicious. While I was not sure what house special sauce they had used, it definitely tasted a bit like there was garlic sauce included, which made the eggplant tasty. One can pour some of the sauce on top of the given rice, which I ended up picking brown rice, and it would make the whole thing super tasty. Either way, I very much enjoyed it. In terms of the spring rolls, they tasted as good as I imagined it to be, because the peanut sauce carried the main flavor when dipping the rolls in it. Mint leaves, tofu, vegetables altogether allowed a mixture of different flavors that made it a pleasant culinary experience. The tom kha tasted more sour than sweet, most likely because it didn't have enough coconut milk, which wasn't a bad thing and would be dependent on different people's tastes. Overall I think this establishment is one that anyone can easily trust to create good, quick, and cheap food. While I don't live around the area, I would recommend it to anyone who does.
We enjoyed the dishes family-style, and every dish was really good. If we lived nearby, this place would definitely be added to our regular rotation. The faux meats were very well done, and they had a great variety on the menu. The portions were also the perfect amount, not too much. The value was also decent.
One of the best vegan place! We ordered their recommended dishes and all were good. I personally ordered curry friend rice a the best!

Amazing food for a good price! Love the orange nuggets, the won ton noodle soup, lemongrass tofu, crepe, and so much more!
So delicious. We're vegan and new to the area. So happy to live so close to such a tasty, reasonably-priced place with such prompt and friendly service. This will definitely be our regular go-to.
Amazing food, great and extensive menu, spacious, plenty of parking, no reservation was required to get a table, fast service, delicious cooking.

This is our go to for Vegetarian/Vegan food in the area. We found this spot when I used to work in the area and have been enjoying it regularly for 10+ plus years. Now I am a 20 min drive from them, …
Super fast service and nice, clean ambience with plenty of seating and booths. We ordered the ocean pineapple mushroom cakes, the crispy noodle chow mein, the fake chicken drumsticks, and the Vietnamese crepe pancakes. Ocean pineapple mushroom cakes and the crispy noodle chow mien I would order again. The fake chicken drumstick was only good with the sweet chili sauce and the crepe/pancake had too many bean sprouts and onions and not much else inside…it was very large but also very thin.
Haven't tried many vegan places around the bay but i feel like this is still a top tier option ☺️ ordered family style with a few friends and we didn't have a single bad dish. Favorites were the spicy tango and firecracker. The fried rice and clay pot were a tad greasy but still had great flavor. I just wish they were open a little later!
Great experience! Food was well prepared and good. Service was good. I will definitely go next time to try different dishes. About dishes: 1. Fresh Spring Rolls - This dish is served cold. Lettuce 🥬 was fresh and it was well made. We liked it with sauce provided. 2. Golden Rolls Vermicelli - Golden rolls were really awesome. It was crispy, not oily and stuffing taste great. I have experienced having Vermicelli for the 1st time and maybe that’s why I felt like not well cooked and didn’t have any flavor so I added hot sauce to bring out flavors. 3. Szechuan Pineapple - This dish tastes amazing and well made. I felt like tofu was chewy. 4. I had vegan brownies in past and I didn’t like but dessert here is just PERFECT. I loved it 🥰 Thanks 🙏
Great food as well as service. Good experience for takeout as well as dine in. Quality ingredients can be noticed.

The food here is good. No surprises. Server was kind. The portions were good. The place was clean and pretty laid-back. No complaints, but nothing over the top either.
Fast and delicious . Got fried rice and it was good . Lots of parking . Friendly staff and lots of booths to dine at .

3.5-4Star Merit Vegan Restaurant Merit Vegan sets itself apart from many vegetarian restaurants by offering dishes with distinct, creative flavors instead of the same plain taste over and over. That alone makes it worth a visit, and explains why it’s often crowded. But flavor isn’t everything. The biggest disappointment here is value. Portions are very small—most dishes feel like “diet-sized” single-person servings—yet the prices are higher than the generous, family-style plates you’d find elsewhere. A single dish often leaves you unsatisfied, so expect to order at least two plates or spend $35+ per person just to feel full. For a restaurant built around vegetables, soy, and tofu, the pricing feels steep and at times unjustifiable. The food is good, but when you leave still hungry after paying a premium, it’s hard not to feel shortchanged. If Merit Vegan improved portion sizes or lowered prices, it could deliver a truly fulfilling experience. Until then, it remains a place known for flavor, but not for value.

Waitress was nice while taking our order, but they never once came back to check on us. Food wasn’t that good. I’ve been coming here for the past 5-6 years with my family and the quality of food has always been OKAY at most. The only reason I go here is because my family members are vegetarian. It seems like a decent restaurant as it has been filled up almost every time I go here. Personally I am not a fan and wouldn’t go back on my own will. Today we came in right when it opened for dinner at 4:30pm. Friendly staff, okayish food, and vegetarian cuisine.

I arrived right at 4:30 PM when they opened. I was dining alone, and there were only two other customers in the restaurant, so it wasn’t busy. Unfortunately, the service was very poor. I ordered Thai tea, Spicy Tango, chow mein, and Mongolian Delight, only part of my order came out. The Mongolian Delight never arrived. No one checked on me the entire time, even though there were about five employees in the front talking and laughing. The only reason they acknowledged me was because I kept looking over at them. When I finally asked for the check, I found out the waitress had never entered the Mongolian Delight into the system. When I paid, a different waiter handled the transaction. Because of the poor service, I chose not to leave a tip. He loudly said, “No tip?!” and told the other employees, who began laughing and probably insulting me in their language. I’ve seen other reviews mentioning staff being rude when customers don’t tip. In my case, the service was bad to begin with. I’m honestly surprised at how unprofessional the experience was, especially considering the restaurant wasn’t busy. Overall, the experience felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. Basic service and respect should be expected, particularly when the restaurant is not busy.
The food was very oily and looked like it was prepared in haste. We had ordered vegetable chowfun and vegetable chow mein, the chow fun had oil dripping from it.The spicy delight was not spicy at all, it was tangy and mushy and had a strong smell. The fresh spring rolls were not fresh. The cherry on top was the extreme rude behavior from their staff. We tried to return one of the dishes back and their response was “This is how it is !”
