Opinions de Ethioeritrea Restaurant Syracuse
Great lunch! We split the vegan platter and one other veggie dish. The prices were reasonable and the food was delicious. Food took a while as there was a large group in front of us, but the owner was apologetic and it was well worth the wait.
This was my first time having Etheopian cuisine, and it was very fresh and flavorful, a complete delight. Love the Chicken with Rice, Cowlo and Avacado Salad!
The best Ethiopian food I’ve eaten so far!! Their Ater kik Alicha just melts in the mouth and you get the strong garlicky flavor which is just amazing! I felt like ratatouille relishing all the flavors!! The vegan platter is just worth it. Also, the Ethiopian coffee is sharp and delightful! The highlight of the day was their ambiance and service. I would rather term it ‘hospitality’. Such warm, humble and welcoming people. They aren’t fluent with English yet that wasn’t an issue. As long as they get my order right, and serve top class, lip smacking food; nothing else matters; does it? And they’re the best at what they do! We don’t mind an hour’s drive for such food; we’re gonna be back soon!
Excellent, delicious food. Some of the best kitfo I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to Ethiopia! Note that the food might take some time, but that’s always true with freshly prepared Ethiopian food. Good service, casual atmosphere.
Reading this and wondering if you should be adventurous and try Ethiopian cuisine? Yes, yes you should. Everything here is organic. The mild/medium spices are something you will only taste in this cuisine, and it is all so healthy for you that you will feel full of energy after eating it. Their coffee is also out of this world.
My partner and I stopped here in the middle of a long drive to scratch our itch for Ethiopian food that we can't get where we live. Our food was exceptional! The server was so kind. We ended up talking about how to cook Doro Wot. And they even sold us a bag of berbere to get us started at home!
Stopped in for lunch on my way to Rochester, and couldn't have picked a better spot. The staff was lovely, food was incredible, and prices were great. Will definitely be making this a staple stop when passing through going forward.
Fantastic! Best Ethiopian food in the area. Everything about our experience was amazing. The injera was absolutely amazing and every dish was cooked well and tasted amazing. I will be recommending from now on!
The flavors of the food are incredibly distinct and fresh. I could taste every ingredient in the potato salad they offer as an appetizer. So delicious! We ordered the Vegetarian Plater for dinner to share between two people. Everything on the injera bread was freshly made and bursting with flavor. You could tell the food was made by someone who knows how to use spices and blend different ingredients together to make a savory meal your tastebuds will love! Friendly service and great ambiance. We will definitely come back.
I neglected to get photos of our dining experience and I regret that because a picture truly is worth a 1000 words. I had not tasted food from this cultural palate before and I was so glad we decided to visit Ethioeritrea with our daughter and her friend. We got 2 appetizers to share, 2 lamb dishes, a beef dish and chicken and rice. If you'd like a fork, ask. The entrées are designed to be eaten hands-on and with the bread it was a really pleasant experience. The taste and spices were exquisite. Would return 100%.
The best Ethiopian food I’ve had since visiting DC! Absolutely delicious food and great coffee. Extremely friendly and laid back service as well!
We are so glad to have this restaurant in Syracuse! The food is amazing and exactly what we wanted. It is busy, so expect to wait. The food is worth it!!!!! Definitely recommend the vegan combo. Loved the kitfo (raw beef) and doro wot. Need to try the beef tibs next time!
We love this establishment. Loyal customer for 3 years now.
Amazing food and service! I came here with my girlfriend we are both vegan and they had great options including a vegan platter for 2! The food was so yummy and flavorful. Our server was so kind and attentive. The atmosphere is also lovely and comforting. Would definitely come back and highly recommend!
My wife and i have had Ethiopian food all over the continent. The food we had at Ethioeritrea was as good as the best we’ve had anywhere. The proprietor was also our server, an absolutely lovely woman who to care of our every need. Service was quick, the food was excellent, portion sizes were great.
I stopped here on my way to Buffalo 5 years ago and have made every excuse I can to eat here since. Absolutely delicious food, awesome vegan options, and great value. Some of the best Ethiopian/Eritrean food I've ever had! And served by wonderfully warma nd welcoming people!
We came from out of town and this spot hit the mark! Very delicious food - great seasoning, great service and nicely decorated to make you feel warm and cosy inside! Highly recommend - it was only a 16 minute walk from the city center!
I came here with my teen for dinner, and it was AMAZING. The flavors are so unique and delicious. My son has a big appetite, and he managed to get full before his meal was gone. The pricing was reasonable. It seems to be a husband and wife team that runs the entire operation. They were so kind and helpful. We’ll definitely be coming back! Wish I took pictures, but it was half gone before I thought of it!
great atmosphere and incredible service. the food was very well seasoned and the portions were very large. the vegan variety is very large and the menu caters to many dietary restrictions. the smoothies taste very fresh and delicious
The hostess was so accommodating and helpful! They don’t offer the chicken dish I was hoping for, but we “settled” for the vegan platter and it was delightful! Everything was richly flavorful and cooked perfectly.
Cute little spot. Heard CNN recommended it as one of the top 20 new restaurants in the world. Seemed unlikely Syracuse would be on that list so had to check it out! Very friendly staff, well maintained. Food was very good. I had not tried Ethiopian before, but I very much enjoyed it. We had two entrees of lamb and beef, and a vegetarian platter which sampled a few things. Just the right amount of spicy and everything was delicious. We will be coming back!
My wife and I shared the vegan sampler platter. It was definitely enough for two people. The price was very affordable and the food was very delicious! The staff were friendly and welcoming. They made sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. They are located off the beaten path, but well worth the visit. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back.
I didn’t expect to Love the food and flavors I experienced in this authentic Ethiopian Restaurant. I didn’t know what to expect, but the spices and flavors were jumping off the tongue!! I’ve eaten at many of the best restaurants in Syracsue and this small family owned restaurant could rival the tastes and flavors experienced at Lemon Grass, Arad Evans, possibilities, etc…. All known for their signature dishes and amazing quality in flavor and experience. I will definitely return I recommend any Beef of Lamb dishes!! Salad, and of course the COFFEE was delicious! Beans were cooked onsite and coffee was made immediately after!! Just a great unexpected evening of deliciousness!!
My daughter and I came to try Ethiopian cuisine for the first time and it was delightful. The food is delicious, the service just great. The place is small and intimate with a very nice menu that includes many vegan options. We look forward to coming back.
I was passing through Syracuse and wanted to stop by because I’ve heard some great things about this restaurant. I certainly was not disappointed at all, it exceeded my expectations. It is 100% authentic, fresh, delicious, perfectly seasoned food. It was made right in house. The owner really cares about your satisfaction. After I finished eating I ordered another dish to go because I wanted to bring some home to share. It’s 6 minutes off the highway. I highly suggest you come try it too!
Ate dinner there with two of my friends, the food was quite good but the service was exceptional. Very homey, smaller dining area gave a nice atmosphere. The owner was exceedingly kind, even letting us stay several minutes past closing as we chatted and had tea.
This place is a gem! We are lucky to have such an place to enjoy this cuisine! It is as authentic as you can get! We got a platter with the spicy Key Wot meat with the Shiro chickpea sauce centered in injera flatbread. You get to enjoy dipping the injera into the flavorful sauces. Couldn’t get enough of it. So delicious. It was great as this hidden gem was not swarmed by all the masses of college students so fully enjoyable to relax and feel at home. I highly recommend adding this to your list!
First time eating Ethiopian food. Loved it! Small restaurant, really good food. Plenty of vegetarian options. Street parking.
Great for a fun date, really deserves the 4.8 stars it has right now. Small staff, but they work very hard to meet customer requests and deliver food quickly. I had never eaten Ethiopian before, so we guessed on the menu. Everything was good, and my wife and I had a blast. Will be going again for sure.
It's an underrated place a bit out of the way. It comes highly recommended if you seek something off the beaten path.
I have had Ethiopian cuisine at a few different restaurants across several states, but none of them compare to the food here. You can truly taste the love in it. Family owned business that takes care of their customers and offer only the best quality Ethiopian/ Eritrean treats.
I walked into this place and felt like I took a journey across the globe. The environment and food are incredibly authentic and extremely delicious, but the best part was the host who was friendly, attentive, and warm. This was The best meal that I have had in a long time and at an affordable price. Highly recommend, will definitely return.
Our family has never had the cuisine of the region and we were all surprised at just how delicious everything was! We shared 3 entrees and an appetizer and had plenty to eat, even our seventeen year old who is usually unfillable. We will definitely be back! (We will try to try some pix before we devour it all…)
Today I picked up my order for dinner from here. The people who own and run this place were wonderful to talk with and very appreciative. The vegetarian meal that they made was delicious and very filling. There is good and somewhat bad for me personally. The good part is that I can't wait to fo back and get more. The bad part is that I live over in Oneida county and it is a drive to get there. I hope that more people visit this location.🤣
Fabulous restaurant that we happened upon on our trip when moving from Arizona to Massachusetts. Tesfa was so helpful in picking just the right dishes for our tastes. The food was amazing...first rate!. Thank you and hope to come back when our travels take us to your area.
My first time eating Ethiopian food, and it was excellent! I did not realize I would be eating with my hands but you get used to this quickly. You scoop the vegetables and meat with injera which is a crepe like bread. The vegetarian platter is a good place to start for two, and you can order a meat dish along with this. The owners are very friendly and take good care of you.
Hands down one of the best ethiopian meals I have had. Homey feel, great service, and amazing food! Freshly prepped, but friendly environment and nice to hang out in! Definitely coming back!
Great Ethiopian food with options for a all vegan or all meat platter.... sooo good! Happy to have a super nice spot to enjoy really good African food. Next time I’ll grab a coffee ceremony but the milk tea was perfect for tonight. Only thing for improvement... the constant beeping noise of a fire alarm with a low battery. Please fix or change. The restaurant is so new, clean and nice otherwise!
It was excellent to finally get back here after a couple years of laying low. We ordered the "Misto," a mixed platter - key wot, doro wot, and tibs are two beef dishes and one of chicken. We added some vegetables (lentils, cabbage, and kale) and all that atop a wheel of injera bread created a shared meal enough for two of us - filling and delicious - for around $25. The flavors are unique; some are spicy hot, some are subtle, all were excellent. Service is good, no one bats an eye at the typical American request for silverware (it looked like most of the other tables around us did the same), and the chef came out of the kitchen at one point to personally ask us how we liked the food. We liked it - and we'll be coming back!
Endearing little place with delicious authentic food. We ordered two combo plates and were allowed to have it all served on one big plate for sharing. Lovely experience!
This recently opened restaurant in Syracuse is a must try place if you are in to exploring food and culture that are new, different and unique, this one comes from East Africa (Eritrea and Ethiopia). The food is tasty the service is excellent. And BTW they have traditional coffee ceremony, Yes! You would celebrate coffee first from the smell of the freshly roasted coffee to the taste of it brewed in a traditional pot made out of clay! It is just amazing!
Delicious food with friendly and polite service! They accommodated our large group with special timing needs expertly. Call ahead as they have limited space, but definitely go there because it's worth it!
Simply excellent food. Generous portions. Casual comfortable atmosphere. Maybe the best Doro Wot I've had. Serious flavor and quite the kick! Building exterior doesn't look like much, but don't judge by its cover.
I came super early in the afternoon. There were two delightful children playing and the sounds of a toddler and an infant to me were like music to my ears. It conveyed a sense of family, and to me, therefore, trust. I transport pets and so I have had the opportunity to sample Ethiopian food around the country many, many times. I was delighted at the opportunity to sample a new venue. I found it by doing a Google search for vegan food. This place does not disappoint. I knew before I ordered the place was going to be outstanding. Just the smell alone as you walked in the front door put you in a delightfully happy mood. I got the vegan sampler platter for about $17 plus tax. It has like five or six different dishes along with the teff bread which they call it the other name, injera. I also got an appetizer that ended up being reminiscent of spanakopita. zOMG! This is definitely among my top ONE or TWO Ethiopian restaurants experiences. Outstanding taste. Outstanding consistency. Outstanding flavors oh my gosh, the variety is fresh from dish to dish to dish to dish. Outstanding high quality from dish to dish to dish. Nothing was too salty or over spiced. I have no idea what the dish name is for the six dishes I just ate but I knew know the teff bread was outstanding. Anywho... The cabbage was cooked down tender and was mildly spiced with a curry that was a nice offset to the red lentils which didn't hurt this guy but had some kick. The yellow lentils were milder but still had a strong spice. They spinach... and I think it was onion and carrot ... was really mild, fresh, and it paired perfectly with the injera, as did everything honestly. Frankly I don't really know what all else was on the plate, all I know is it all worked very well together, it was all vegan except for the appetizer which was vegetarian. And it was all top notch in every way. Five Noms up in a circle. I hate it when the injera bread is all sour. That means they didn't do it right in my opinion. And the injera is always one of my favorite parts of the experience. It does nothing but enhance the experience. This injera is beyond perfect. It is without a doubt the best all around I've ever had when you take into consideration the flavor, the lack of sourness, the consistency, and overall freshness of the bread. Outstanding job guys, I really appreciate you. If you are vegan or vegetarian run to this place. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Come here and sample this stuff first. Whether you are a first-timer to Ethiopian food and everything looks Greek to you, or whether you are Ethiopian yourself, this place is good eats. I would imagine this is what your food would taste like when you came home in the evening and sat down to dinner on a regular basis if one was back in Africa. Well, if your mother or grandmother was an outstanding cook anyway. You will find a rich tapestry of flavors that seem almost familiar, yet will probably be unique as anything you've ever experienced. There's something here for everyone from the beginner to the experience. And of course they have carnivore food too! Knock yourself out brothers! Do recommend. I will be back!
First experience trying Ethiopian food and was not disappointed. Wait staff was really helpful in describing and suggesting food items (since I really had no idea what I was ordering). Our group decided to go family style with big plates - be prepared to dive in and eat with your hands. Delicious, spicy, authentic. Can't ask for much more. Don't forget to try the coffee either which comes with a bonus ceremony!
This family-managed restaurant with hardworking staff trying the best of situations. The food is authentic and genuinely delicious, making it a regional gem for those seeking wonderful Ethiopian cuisine. Only negative are the new prices not reflected in menu yet.
I absolutely loved this restaurant. The owner was so kind and sweet, the food looks really beautiful and is served with wonderful presentation. The cuisine itself is incredible. The lamb and vegan dishes are my absolute favorite. They're incredible, and the bread it's served with I was a little apprehensive to try, but, it's amazing. I literally can't stop thinking about how fantastic our meal was.
This little place is a great find and a fortunate addition to the food scene in Syracuse. Rated in the top 20 new restaurant in the world for 2020 by CNN, this restaurant lives up to the hype. We ate here one snowy afternoon and realized that it had been a while we had finished every last delicious morsel from our plates. Every bite here is a savory and flavourful experience. The hospitality is top notch and service is personal. Do not miss out on this opportunity to experience world class cuisine!
Definitely recommended to everyone! No matter If you are Vegan, Vegetarian or a meat lover, they have an option to surprise you with the taste of magical African flavors. We ordered the combo vegan plate and the tibzi lamb meat which was a perfect combination of very mild spicy, no spicy، and sweet tastes. These guys are super friendly to the customers that you feel home, your mom putting a delicious plate in front of you. If you are not comfortable to have food with hands, feel free to ask them for spoon and fork. There is only one bad review which was interesting to me, if you have better experience in another place, you should not downgrade this place, try to give your real comments and suggestion based on their service not another restaurant service. The only issue with this restaurant is the waiters are not fluent in English, but who cares! Enjoy the food and their hospitality!
We only had 24 hours in Syracuse and I am so happy we had our dinner here! The service was lovely and the atmosphere was cozy and laid back. We had the spiced tea, Alicha wot, and vegan platter, and all were impressively delicious! If I lived in Syracuse this would be in my regular rotation for dining out. I’m just sorry we don’t have a place like this in NYC. Thank you Ethioeritrea for a lovely meal! PS I didn’t get any photos because the food looked so delicious we immediately dug in😋
Amazing Ethiopian restaurant. Small family run place with very kind people, and fantastic food. Seriously some of the best Ethiopian food I've ever had. Will definitely return whenever I'm back in town.
Fantastic food, great portions, great price, friendly kind service, speedy.... I can't say enough good things!
If you come to Syracuse, if you live in Syracuse, if you even think of Syracuse, you need to come here. It earned its place on the best 50 restaurants in the world (CNN, check it out). The food is hot, fresh, and beyond delicious. I'm lazy and don't review much, but I'm actually reviewing this at the table while I'm eating. That's how good this is. The prices are incredible (~$25 for two people vegan share plate), the portions are generous enough that two very hungry people are leaving completely stuffed, and the atmosphere is super homey. The service isn't very fast, but this is due to the small number of people staffing. At the time of this review, there was one woman working front and back of house. This is not a drawback; it's a small restaurant and it's nice to have some time between appetizer and supper. The owner/server/chef was incredibly kind and sweet, and checked in on us frequently. I don't know how she does it all so well, but I'm glad she does, it really makes this place feel so warm! ❤️❤️❤️ Seriously: if there's one new restaurant you try this week, this month, this year, or even this decade, make it this one. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for an amazing meal, and I look forward to many more!
Stopped on our way home to Buffalo. Very cute place. The foods are delicious and the drinks are tasty. The host is kind and friendly! Will definitely come back.
I came for their vegan fare and didn't leave disappointed. The lentils were quite flavorful and tasted even better with the bread rolls. I was surprised to learn that you're supposed to eat the food with your hands, but it turned out to be a fun experience. I'll definitely stop by again in the future.
Doro Wat was masterful. Detailed blends of spices. Best meal I have had in years. Felt like a trip to Ethiopia. Thank you!
One of the best restaurants in Syracuse. Definitely give this place a try because they have options for almost everybody and it’s the best Ethiopian spot in Syracuse. Tons of quality vegetarian dishes and they also have salads and breakfast options. Would highly recommend the Doro Wot and Misto entrees. Good value for the amount of food you get.
I’m vegetarian and I drove two hours to get into this wonderful restaurant. The food is delicious, and the staff are very accommodating. Not to mention, how fairly unexpensive the food for one very hungry vegetarian woman who made all the way here. I highly recommend this place, so if you are into trying new adventure, this place is diffently for you!!!
As an Ethiopian myself, I can tell you this place was absolutely delicious. My only complaint was that service was slow sometimes, but it looked like there was only one man running the restaurant. He was incredibly kind and welcoming to us. Love the decor too. For 5 people, we paid ~$140 with tax and tip (which easily could've been ~$115 but we splurged a little)
The food was absolutely delicious- especially the vegan combo. High quality and the spice blends in the different curries were perfect. The owners are very sweet and welcoming and with a fun sense of humor. They make you feel like you’re with old friends. I loved bringing my friends here. Thank you so much!
While in town for graduation weekend, I was looking for a place to make reservations for dinner that would accommodate my and my partner's vegan diets. The vegan restaurants in Syracuse don't seem to take reservations for large groups, so I was looking at omni places instead when I found this one. We reserved a table for dinner for 9 people, and it was an amazing experience. It's such a cute, quaint space. It was quiet with calm, classical music, and we could hear each other talking at the table. The vegan platter was amazing! All the different vegan options in one platter and it was all so flavorful. My partner had the coffee and I had fresh mango juice. So good!! The owners of the restaurant are so kind and accommodating. Highly recommend coming here if you're vegan or if you have a large group.
Was an absolute gift of The Lord to be led to Ethioeritrea Restaurant! I was met with Incredible and Excelsior hospitality from the family ran business, and the phenomenally Inclusive menu was perfect for someone with Celiac Disease and struggles with being welcomed. Even though I entered, presuming I would be dining alone, we were all in Thanksgiving to the obvious...The Lord was with us. We discussed our community, got to know eachother, and shared in spreading hope! I was even taught a beautiful prayer! The meal was amazing, and even I graciously thanked the chefs for creating their dishes with love. I left full: A heart that was overflowing and a happy stomach. I invite lovely neighbors in sharing the blessing of experiencing The Ethioeritrea Restaurant. Lead with Love and you'll find what your heart longs for. Forever grateful, reciprocating the abundance of grace and prayers of peace and prosperity. Thank you Jesus Christ for the wonderful introduction!
This was my first time ever having Ethiopian food and this place exceeded my anticipation!! I ate the food too quick to even take a picture. The meat and sides were all so flavorful and the blend of spices was unlike anything I’ve had before (and I’ve had a lot of food! 😋) My boyfriend and I split a main dish and added 3 veggie sides and both of us left full, with our total only coming out to $25 !!!? Our waiter seemed to be manning the front of house and cooking in the back, yet was still so kind and as attentive as possible. Obviously very hard working. Will definitely be back! EDIT: I went back a second time and this time I actually grabbed a pic! 📸
This is a great restaurant. If you like Ethiopian and Eritrean food, you will find this is one of the very best. If you are new to this type of food, this is a great place to try something wonderful. The injera bread is so delicate. The presentation of food was gorgeous and we loved everything. We had the vegan combination for dinner and it was a delicious. Highly, highly recommended. Try the authentic Ethiopian coffee (buna) service. The breakfast menu looks fun and we will try it next time. Call ahead to reserve a table!
We got there 20 minutes before closing time and asked the owners if they'll still serve us or if it's too late. They allowed us in and went out of there way to give us the best service, even after closing time. The food was incredible and was accompanied by some of the best homemade bread I've ever had. It's all reasonably priced, and there are many vegan and vegetarian options. This restaurant deserves so much attention for its great food and amazing service. Will definitely come back.
The food was good. I ordered the vegan platter and spinach and cheese appetizer. There was one person cooking and he forgot to get me silverware. I had to go up to the counter to get my check. Other than that, the parking may be an issue because of the area. You have to park on the street.
We had a pleasant dining experience early on a Sunday evening. A large, multi-table party arrived as we were leaving. They all sounded excited to dine at Ethioeritrea again. I also would dine here again. Next time I would choose a "shared platter" item rather than 3 individual orders so as to have more variety.
Really nice visit for my first Ethiopian dinner but not my last. Friendly service, clean establishment and good eats while we waited for family having a procedure at St. Joe’s. Had the chicken and rice, friends had the vegan combo. Will visit again.
The food was delicious! We had the place to ourselves and that is a shame especially while most restaurants are suffering. If you are in Syracuse check them out. They don't serve alcohol yet so byob! I did have the spicy tea and that was so good I had a second cup.
Don’t let the exterior fool you - this is a super charming mom and pop restaurant! The owners and their family are absolutely darling, and make sure everyone feels welcome. The food on whole is excellent (and reasonably priced too): the avocado salad was perfectly ripe and fresh, the beef tibs was exceptionally tender and packed full of umami flavor, and the injeera was more tart and springy than any injeera I’ve had before. The (extensive list of) vegan options were also good, although I thought they would have benefitted from more spices and seasonings all around.
I wish I could give it more stars but our experience was not the best. Staff was polite. But the food was either bland or too spicy. The meat was tender but the hot spice destroyed tasting it or other food. Know that a spongy bread, called enjera, lays beneath most of what is served. The bread detracted from the rest of the meal. We'll try them again, maybe for a breakfast. If you're into trying novel things outside of your comfort zone, give them a try. Just know the meal isn't for those who don't crave adventure.
food was DELICIOUS! However, i do wish they had more protein for the price. I cycled 2 miles to and from, when i opened the doro wot i had a single chicken leg and an egg. don’t get me wrong, i ate it, the flavor was spectacular but it was not satiating. this isn’t my first time going here but i feel that is the case w the dishes i’ve tried. great place for flavor, not so much for satiated hunger
Unfortunately our visit did not reflect the ratings on here. There was only one guy doing everything, including cashier, waiter, and “cooking.” So service was extremely slow. As far as cooking goes, there was a lot of microwave beeping and slamming heard from the dining room. The food came out and looked terrible and was not what we were expecting. No veggies, no sides, and it honestly looked like slop on a plate. (I normally love Ethiopian food.)
