This is your sign to go to that trek you're thinking of! 😉 Yes, it will be hot and humid and with lots of mosquitoes, yet still I'm sure this will be one of the greatest journeys of your life. Nothing beats the tranquility of the jungle and those incredible sunsets and sunrises over it. We originally came mostly for the remote Maya temples, but it really is the journey that is the destination!
Got Malaria here in 1994!! The chiclero Camp at nakbe was cool and I ate snake and cuzuco soup. I filmed atop of La Danta with hi 8. I am at Tikal with my teen age kids right now and realize these miracles of design will long remain after we are all DEAD. PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL AND LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST WITH NO REGRETS. YOU only have one. Jaguars are making a come back due to conservation efforts over the last 3 decades!!!

Un lugar increíble. 2 dias de caminata hasta llegar, igual para regresar. A comparación con Tikal El Mirador aún se encuentra muy en la selva y aún hay muchas estructuras que no han sido descubiertas. También existe la posibilidad de ver diferentes especies de animales durante la caminata.
Die Wanderung ist absolut zu empfehlen. Ich habe mich wenig informiert und vieles erst auf der Wanderzng erfahren. Beispielsweise kann man einen Rucksack den Pferden mitgeben, sodass man nur Wasser, Snacks und eventuell ein Blasenpflaszer in einem kleinen Rucksack selbst trägt. Wichtig ist auch ein immer griffbereites Mückenspray. Auch habe ich gelernt, daß El Mirador kein Tempel sondern eine Stadt ist. Der große Tempel dort heißt La Danta. Die Übernachtungen sind in festen Camps, die alle in alten Mayastädten liegen. Man kann somit täglich den Sonnenuntergang von einer Pyramide aus betrachten. Manchmal sind wir auch zum Sonnenaufgang hoch und haben dort das Dschungelerwachen erlebt. Der Sternenhimmel ist von der Spitze einer Pyramide betrachtet ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Ich bin froh, dass ich ausversehen die 6 tägige Tour gebucht habe. Hier wird nicht der selbe Weg sondern über 2 weitere und sehr unerforschte Mayastädte zurück gegangen. Da das weniger Touristen machen, sind die Wege viel schmaler und man ist dem Dschungel näher (: Stark zu empfehlen ist auch, direkt über die Dinastía Kan bei Antonio zu buchen. Ich habe über einen anderen Guide gebucht und 10% mehr gezahlt. Die Tour geht über 100km. Bei uns war es glücklicherweise sehr trocken (Ende Februar 2022). Das ist aber nicht immer so -> Regenmantel mitnehmen und stelle dich darauf ein, dass es sehr matschig wird.

La pirámide de La Danta es la estructura piramidal más alta de la Tierra. Con una altura de 170 metros, supera a todas las demás pirámides conocidas. Este impresionante monumento se encuentra en el corazón de la selva del Petén, en Guatemala, y es parte del complejo arqueológico de El Mirador. ✅️La construcción de La Danta se remonta al año 300 a.C., durante el Período Preclásico mesoamericano, y destaca por su altura y por su complejo diseño arquitectónico ✅️En 2003, el arqueólogo Richard D. Hansen, de la Universidad Estatal de Idaho, dirigió una investigación que reveló detalles sorprendentes sobre esta construcción preclásica. Con un volumen total de aproximadamente 2.800.000 metros cúbicos, esta pirámide se destaca como una de las estructuras más voluminosas del mundo, superada únicamente por la Gran Pirámide de Cholula en México. Yes, it is hard to get there. Yes, there are lots of bugs. Yes, it is super hot and humid. Yes, the facilities are very limited. Just GO!! This was the highlight of our trip and I can't recommend it enough. We went through TikalGo, but there are a few different companies that will arrange the guide and flight. Our guide was awesome! Other then when he left us alone to eat or take in the views at the tops of the pyramids he was consitantly sharing an incredible wealth of information. We were literally the only visitors at the site the day we went, we had the entire place to ourselves. It was incredible. I don't know how else to say it - GO!

Nice and really huge archeological Mayan site, which offers pyramides for the perfect Sunrise/Sunset. Beside that you can explore the diffrent historical places in the area. You need in minimum one day there as there are hundreds of old buildings. It was actually the bigest Mayan city and offers the highest Mayan pyramid. The only way to get there is to walk two days or take a Helicopter from flores.
There are a few options to visit the site of El Mirador. One is to trek through the jungle over several days, or you can take a helicopter flight to the site. Seats on the helicopter can be booked through TAG and they leave from Mundo Maya International Airport. The trip booked through TAG will include a Guatemala trained and certified guide. Expect to see beautiful examples of Mayan ruins in various stages of restoration.

Impresionante ciudad premaya oculta bajo la selva. Kilómetros de vegetación que ocultan pirámides, infinitas escaleras, incluso pavimentos de calles y plazas; donde un día toda una civilización convivió, hoy crecen hierbas, árboles y vegetaciones que ocultan todo y que solo estar muy atento té permite detectarlo. No es fácil, ni económico llegar, pero sin duda es una visita inolvidable.
