My husband and I were looking for a place to have Korean BBQ, and this spot did not disappoint. The food was delicious and well worth the visit. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were told by one of the hosts that they weren’t open yet. As we were heading back to our car, Justin stopped us and kindly let us in early. Such a thoughtful gesture. It gave us time to get settled and look over the menu. Justin was incredibly attentive and helpful throughout our visit. Since it was our first time there, he took the time to explain the menu in detail, checked on us often, and even helped us cook our meal when we were struggling a bit. A few other staff members also checked up on us, which made us feel very well taken care of. I can honestly say I’ve never experienced service like this at a restaurant before. Justin truly went above and beyond and made our entire experience extremely pleasant.
Kyle is an absolute standout server! We’ve been to Gen Korean BBQ multiple times, and we’ve consistently had fantastic service from him every single visit. He’s attentive, friendly, quick with orders and grill changes, and always makes the experience even more enjoyable. He truly elevates the whole meal!
Last night, our large family of 30 people had an unforgettable dining experience at Gen—the perfect way to wrap up the year. Despite our large group, the service was exceptional. The staff checked on us proactively, helped us with menu recommendations, and even showed us how to enjoy each item at its best. Hands down, this was the best service we’ve ever received at Gen. The quality of the meat was outstanding—so good that we honestly forgot we were at an AYCE BBQ. Everything from the food to the service exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend Gen for large groups, family gatherings, and year-end or holiday celebrations!

I especially recommend the marinated short rib and spicy pork bulgogi. Their banchan (side dishes) are fresh and constantly replenished, which adds balance to all the grilled goodness. Wow! This place is great!! :) I came in on a Saturday afternoon and was able to get in before the rush. The restaurant is really nice and clean. Very fancy interior and looks really modern. Service was awesome! Even though they were kinda busy was able to get good service. Food comes out fresh and they change out the grill tray everytime and rarely have to ask for a new. I can't wait to come back 😋😋😛

What brought me here was the smell from the outside. The food did not disappoint! I would say only come if you are really hungry so you can get your money’s worth. If you are hungry, it is a very fare price. Our server, Neo, was amazing. Super attentive, kind and helpful for customers who were new to the experience. Purely by it’s nature it is a very noisy place. So it is not great for visiting.
All-you-can-eat AYCE. Came here for Christmas lunch and had a good experience. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive throughout the entire meal. We ordered from the dinner menu, and the galbi and beef bulgogi were the highlights. I appreciated how proactive the servers were with changing our grill at regular intervals. It’s a good selection for the price. The only downside was the restroom. There was a very intense smell even before entering the door.
A solid choice that's not anything premium amongst the AYCE KBBQ greats of LA but at under 30 bucks, it usually delivers. 1- Food : Frozen meat was marinated - Very bad quality. We paid for dinner but they said they dont have steak only after we started ordering. 2. Service was very bad: they only had 3 tables with people eating but every order took a long time to eat. We ordered rice and extra sides that never came. Water was not refilled 3. They put us next to the bathroom. The whole section smelled like Sewage mixed with Clorox.
The two stars are for the waiter and busboy (they only two things that are good with this place). Really bad host and ignored guests as they waited. I went there by myself and stand behind a few people that looked like they are applying for a job there, another family came right behind me. The host lady ignored everyone until she decided to asked number or family to be seated and skipped me. The host lady knew I didn’t appreciate her bad service and she turned up her sarcasm. My family and I came here for my bday, and well, everything was okay. The service was very slow. We kept asking for them to bring use our meat, rice, and napkins. We had so much meat eating waiting because we were eating it with the rice, but meat took forever. As we waited for them to bring us meat as well, we didn't noticed the grill was so hot that when I put the chicken on top flames came up , it took them some time for them to come I didn't noticed my arm had hot burn because it was so dark in there. When my arm started hurting and I looked at it, I saw I had a mark, which I did have burned it. I asked for ointment and some ice but even for that they took forever. My hand feels swollen, but what did they care about it. I was so disappointed on my bday when it had to be special 😪 I cried because my arm was hurtin, and now I hav a mark to remember. The check was $290, not worth it
I came here on a Sunday with just my son and I on April 21st. From the very beginning. I didn’t like the vibe from this place. It all started from when we came into the door, approached Ryan who was in the front. We went up to him and he didn’t acknowledge us. At all. I tried to tell him table for two. But he completely cut me off and told me to wait for the hostess to help with requests. So we waited awhile. Until the “hostess” arrived at her work area. Only she also didn’t acknowledge my son and I. We kept waiting. Until I asked Ryan about the hostess. And he just rolled his eyes and said I’ll just help you. It was just a table for 2. That’s all. I gave him my phone number because it was asked upon which is normal for a Korean BBQ place. Wait time was about 15-20 mins. Understandable. They took us to our table. Only we had to share our table with another party. I asked the hostess if we can have our own table. She basically said too bad. You are sitting here. With an attitude. I just simply accepted it. My son and I sat with an other party. First of all. I took about 15 minutes for a waiter to take our drink and meat order. Second of all. They handed my son’s drink to the party next to us. Sitting in the same table. I had originally ordered tall a mango kart. That never arrived. We didn’t have tongs at our table. I had to ask 2 different servers for tongs. Why is that ? They delivered our meats with no tongs and I had to ask around for tongs. They never changed our grill but yet they changed the party sitting in our same table. Their grill about 4 times. I even counted. My beer never arrived. I kept waiting on it. Food was delicious. I just wish they had changed our grill. Service was horrible. At the end I asked for my beer. They responded with they didn’t have mango Kart available. Yet I still waited all this time for them to tell me that. I settled with a modelo. Would’ve been better to have known that information from the beginning. Also right when my son and I were done eating. Literally finished all the meats. That’s when they decided to change our grill. And we still waited for about 25 more minutes just to ask for the check and pay. My son kept saying he wanted to go home. I was on the same page as him. But we had to wait for a the servers to finish closing us out. No I didn’t tip. This has got to be the worst service I’ve ever received. Ever. From the moment we walked in and the moment we left. I’m never coming back to this establishment ever again in my life. I had made the Gen KBBQ at Fullerton my main staple in KBBQ places. And I wanted to give this location a try. Worst decision I made.

Very disappointing experience. They served frozen marinated meat and had no steaks available. We waited about 1.5 hours because they kept saying the steaks were coming, but they never arrived. For two people we paid $69 plus tip for extremely poor-quality food. Hours later we still had a bad taste in our mouths and even had stomach issues. Definitely not coming back.
I’m really disappointed with our experience at Gen Korean BBQ this time. I’ve been here before and had a decent experience, but this visit was completely different. The customer service was very poor from the start. After we were seated, we placed our order for meat, but no grill was placed on our table. The meat actually came out before we even had a grill, which made no sense and already started the experience off badly. The staff member assigned to our table was not attentive at all. We had to repeatedly ask for basic things like water and other items we ordered, and even after asking multiple times, things were still forgotten. Meanwhile, we noticed other tables receiving much better attention and their orders coming out quickly — even tables that were seated after us. The food quality was also disappointing. We ordered brisket, and the meat was very dry and crumbly. It didn’t taste fresh and the quality was definitely not what we expected. Overall, the entire experience went downhill compared to the last time I visited. Between the lack of service, long wait times, and poor meat quality, it was just a bad Korean BBQ experience. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back.
This was probably by far the worst Korean barbecue experience I have ever had. We were sat in a room separate from the main dining room that was very clearly still under construction. The lack of ventilation in that room made it so that the side door had to be open the entire time, making our dining experience, extremely uncomfortable due to the cold. When several tables ask the server to please close the door, he let us know that he was unable to. When the managers came in to speak to those tables, the managers advised that the door must be kept open so that there could be proper ventilation. This is clearly the fault of the restaurant for seating people in an area that was clearly not ready for customers. When we received our food, the ban chan sides that we received were pickled cucumbers, Potato Salad, and rice paper sheets. When I asked our server if we could get kimchi or the remainder of the ban chan , he let us know that that was all they had, He mentioned that the night before being Valentine’s Day had left them with almost none of their normal product. If this was the case, I believe we should’ve been warned of this Before We waited in an hour For a table. Overall, horrible ambience horrible planning on the part of the restaurant and horrible management skills. I Will never recommend this place to anybody and will never be back here again. Honestly, such a joke.
Been coming here for years. Over the last year and some change the place has really gotten worse. The floors are slippery and dangerous. It takes half an hour for a waiter to even approach you, and they forget everything. The place is constantly understaffed. Today I had the displeasure of a waiter spilling sticky pickle juice all over my expensive bag and they offered nothing in return. Will never be coming back after over ten years coming here
We had a really disappointing experience at the Tustin location. We arrived at 11:55am and stood at the front with no one greeting us. Multiple employees walked past us without acknowledging us. Eventually, a girl who I later found out was the manager came up and said she could seat us in 15 minutes—then disappeared. No follow-up, no communication. Finally, someone seated us, but the table was absolutely disgusting. It was greasy, the floor was so slippery from grease that our shoes were sliding as we sat down, and the burners were so caked with grime that they tried wiping it with a napkin just to get it to light—and it still wouldn’t work. We had to be moved to another table. The second table was just as bad. The chairs were covered in grease, which is unacceptable, especially with a baby. I asked if they could wipe it down properly with a cleaner. I also asked for a high chair, which I had to request three separate times before one was finally brought. Once we were finally “served,” we noticed everyone around us getting food and drinks while we were still waiting. We never even received our drinks. The table next to us ordered after we did and got their drinks before us. By 12:45pm, after being there for almost an hour with no food or drinks, we gave up and decided to leave. I asked to speak to a manager and explained everything, only to be met with a very rude response saying, “You were only waiting 5 minutes,” which was absolutely not true. We love Gen and go often to the Huntington Beach location, which is why this was so disappointing. The cleanliness, service, and management at the Tustin location were horrible. We won’t be returning to this location.
The food was not too bad, I think overall decent menu and flavors. I will say the service is really bad though. They take way too long to bring out the food, probably because it looks like they don't even have many servers. Also the attitude of most of the workers there is just rude.
Stopped by today with my girl and the service was not up to par. They brought us rice paper that was hardened, they wouldn’t have brought us our drinks if we didn’t remind them, they forgot our deep fried mandus. When they finally remembered to bring them they were cold to the touch. They forgot about our straws and we had to remind them 15 minutes later. They forgot about our rice bowl and we had to remind them 15 minutes later. We then also had to wait about 15 minutes to get the check and about another 15 minutes for the check to be picked up. If the service wasn’t already terrible, the meats we ordered were full of fat. The service and quality was beyond underwhelming. We will not be returning it and I recommend that YOU don’t even bother stopping by. We suggest that YOU spend $20-30 extra dollars elsewhere, but at least the service and quality won’t disappoint.
Ive been to this location 3 times, everytime i visit the customer service got progressively worse. The first time was okay customer service like a 5/10 they forgot stuff and didnt check in with the table to often. but it wasnt the worst, they changed our grill 3 times for over an hour stay. the second time was like a 3/10 I interacted with the lady in white who is at the front (i belive is the manager) a lot more and everytime i see her it feels so unwelcoming. she rolls her eyes, and will like grunt if we ask questions or need to wait for the rest of party. This time they only changed the grill once, which was fine, I was only there for about 30 minutes. the most previous time i went, they deadbutt changed the grill over 10 times in under 20 minutes. As soon as we would start cooking the meat they would rush over and put it on another grill. The first 5 times me and my party just laughed it off, when they changed the grill they also took some of our meat that was on the grill aswell. So that kind of sucked cause we were loosing meat. after the 10th time of them changing the grill when they came back to change the *Freshly Changed Grill from not even 2 minutes ago* we politely declined and noted that they had just changed it. the person changing it huffed and walked away. everytime he passed he would side eye us. immediately after that the manager came up to us and changed our grill. Our grill wasnt overly steamy or anything out of the ordinary. They also have vents above the grill but wouldnt turn them on?! after that we started a stopwatch and asked them to not change the grill asmuch and they seemed a little offended. but they started changing every 4-5 minutes instead of 2 which was nice. Its just frustrating cause it took us longer to cook the food because they kept swapping out the grill and it had to reheat. The meat also lost some juice and flavor because the same meat would get moved 2-3 times. :( The only reason i come back is because of the food, the meat is really good. So to start off this Gen’s location might be the worst one I’ve ever been too. Although they play a good music playlist. I moved to Irvine from Cerritos where the Best Gens location is so you can expect this one not being able to compare. We had an amazing waiter J+++ who tried his best but at times he forgot to bring us many things which resulted to us having a poor experience. I see there is a lack of communication between the waiter and the kitchen. This is my second time visiting this location and both times were terrible. No rice cakes even though we ordered them both times when they took our first order. No refills on our drink because the waiter is overworked with more than 3 big parties to serve. The condiments we received was horrible. We only got salt and a yellow oil when you’re suppose to receive 2 oils and one salt. The meat tastes very different here than Cerritos, almost as if there is no flavor. The rice paper also is very hard around the edges instead of being soft. The corn cheese does not taste right for some reason as well. Great waiter. Location needs work. Hopefully more Staffing, better communication and better quality.
