Tommy's Sushi is a long-standing, affordable, and casual Japanese restaurant known for its fresh fish and generous portions. The poke bowl and special deluxe combo are highly recommended. Some find the interior worn, but the friendly service and quality outweigh this.
Tip: Order the special deluxe combo for a generous and affordable meal. Be sure your whole party is there before sitting at the sushi bar.

Amazing dinner location with very tasty food! I am allergic to seafood but my husband LOVES it/ sushi so this was a great option for us to eat. I was able to eat their delicious chicken teriyaki and my husband got a sushi sashimi bento box. We both left fulfilled and with a new favorite place in our area!
The food is always fresh and consistent, if not outstanding. The music is low enough that you can actually carry on a conversation while there. And the location is quiet yet accessible. Overall, Tommy's Sushi is a high quality sushi restaurant that is consistently at the top of my list.
The entrance of this place was hard to find but wow would reccomend this place. Their $20 special includes sashimi, and that huge plate of tempura, karage, beef and chicken teriyaki, salad, and California roll. Their special roll is also pretty delicious ($15) and I would reccomend their poke bowl as well.
The only “downside” is that the sashimi portions are huge! :))). Love the place - great food, fast and friendly service. Good price/size/quality ratio.
I love this place. It's hole in the wall and you don't really know it's there unless you're looking for it. There's just this door but when you walk in, it really looks like a typical Japaneae local restaurant. The sashimi is excellent as well as the yakitori. Everything is great. They have several types of sushi rolls fir those who prefer less fish. Plenty if parking.
I was looking for a hole in a wall kind of place and Tommy's sushi didn't disappoint. Awesome food, service and atmosphere
Nice interior and nice price with kind workers. The food was just ok, but I still give it 5 stars for the bang for the buck especially the special with basically everything.
Tommy's has been here forever, maybe longer, and for good reasons. It's not trendy or fancy. It's friendly, comfortable, casual and affordable, with just great food. I had my first poki bowl here maybe 20 years ago, long before it was trendy. Once you come, you'll be back. Attached photo is a "Sushi Tostada". Yuuummmm!
This is always my go to for sushi. It's priced well, and the fish is always fresh. I have been coming to Tommy's for 20 years and it has yet to dissappoint me. Poke bowl is the best around. Baked scallops are to die for. I love you Tommy's!!
Really good Japanese food for very little money Still every bit as good as always!
Best Japanese restaurant best sushi I ever had great place fresh food great stuff very affordable generous plates I went twice in one week I love the place highly recommended
If you have never eaten at Tommy's, you have not had the best sushi in Orange County. Hands down the best!
I've frequented this sushi bar for several years with family and friends and always had good service. Stop in during the week early and you will find a slot. Weekends are busy amd local celebs like stop by as well.
Best sushi in Orange County! You have to order the Cucumber Paradise. Worth every penny. The setting is quaint and the food is spectacular!!!
Food is always fresh and good. We had the sesame chicken, yellowtail, tuna, salmon, and spider roll. The server was very nice and kept our drink full. Couldn't ask for much more.
We came here for dinner on a Thursday night. The sushi and sashimi were very fresh! Other items were also fresh and tasty. The service was decent to good and parking was easy to find.
If you are reading this and trying to figure out if this is the sushi place for you, stop reading and just go. Now. You will not be disappointed. This is, hands down, bar none, the best sushi place around. No place in Tustin, Irvine, Orange or anywhere close can compete with what I love about this place. 1.Freshest fish around. Every time. The flavor is clean and refined. No "fishy" smell or flavor here. 2. Atmosphere, especially at the bar. My chef of choice is Ken. He is a true sushi master. Sometimes, he just knows what you want. Tell him to surprise you! 3. Creativity. I mean, c'mon....a Japanese jalapeño, awesome. One of my favorite dishes. You only THINK you know where to get a good poké bowl. You'll change your mind when you try theirs. Just get here and give em a shot. You can thank me later. ;)
Not much atmosphere inside. Saran wrap for COVID barrier?! But service was excellent and combination specials were loaded. Tempura was really good. Too much to finish at one sitting.
Tommy's is one of those hidden gems. You could walk right past it and never know it was there. The food is always great.
I love their spicy tuna rolls! Just wish they had fresh wasabi to round it out.
I am salivating while I search for the words. We had 3 generations at the table. Lots of different personal preferences. The staff helped make sure everyone got selections they were happy about. Generous portions. Still salivating.
This place has been making the best poki bowls since before 99% of people knew what a poki bowl was... I'm talking about... at least 15 years ago... that's how long I've been going but they may have been selling them long before that. Good stuff!
I started going to Tommy's in 1988 and I keep going back. I have great memories of Indo and Heeday and Ishi the original Sushi Chefs...Ishi is still there !! Go Ishi !! Great sushi and service then and now !!
Absolutely the best hole in the wall sushi spot. They have the original and best poke bowl. Great sushi bar and engaging chefs.
Been going to this pace for years. I feel it's a orange county gem, service is awesome. Sushi bar guys are always fun and having a blast I get stuck there all the time.
We love Tommy's Sushi for their poke bowls, Hamachi kama, sushi, and drinks! Long time satisfied customer.
Outstanding sushi, some of the best I've had. Extremely friendly staff, they'll have a beer with you. Very reasonable prices as well
By far one of the best sushi places in OC. The party I was with ordered some off menu items that were life changing and I’ll be going back over and over again. Highly recommend it!
one of the first japanese places in so cal...sushi is very good and not over priced as are many sushi place..also its run and owned by japanese. its dark inside, but service is great.
Still a great place to go for sushi. Highly recommend the poke bowls and assorted tempura.
Food was great. Ingredients to the sushi were high end. The spicy tuna roll had a generous chunk of tuna with siracha in the roll. Much better than the tuna paste in most spicy tuna rolls. Not a lot of crazy rolls to select, but i liked every roll I tried. The kids ate their fill and enjoyed it. Staff was friendly and polite. When my son spilled his rootbeer, the waiter kindly gave him a new can for free which he didnt have to do. I liked the general atmosphere of the restaurant. The mirror in the dining room needed a more thorough glass cleaning, but the table and floors were clean. The table had plenty of space for a family of 5 to dine without feeling cramped.
Overall great experience. Sat at the traditional table with my family. Food was delicious and traditional table was fun for the kids.
I've been coming since I was a child and my mom knew the owners. I'm pretty sure the restaurant is still in the family, and the quality is still fantastic. I'll be a patron for as long as I can come get the best poke bowl I've ever had anywhere.
Don't let the name fool you- this is the best sushi I've had in OC. We go every week, and I haven't had a sub-par experience yet. The fish is always fresh, the staff is friendly, and its reasonably priced for the quality and amount you receive.
Tommy’s is the quintessential neighborhood Sushi bar. It’s been in business for a very long time, and the depth and breadth of expertise behind the sushi bar is palpable. Oh did I mention the amazing prices?
One of my favorite sushi places!! I come here regularly and always start with their famous poke bowl! It amazing! It's got alittle of everything and always with fresh fish! I also recommend getting the stuffed tomato, its special menu item, that I think everyone should give a try.
Quality sushi, large portions, with great ambiance and fun sushi chefs make this restaurant an excellent place to go. Service is quick and helpful. The locals are there consistently, enjoying their favorites. I am also amazed at the number of out of town sushi lovers that always stop by when in the area, as they NEED to stop by their favorite sushi place for their fix. Drop by, you will not be disappointed.
Best sushi in So. Cal in my opinion. I have been eating there for 30 years. My dad eats there a couple times a week and his friend drives all the way down from Los Angeles every week just to eat there. They have been making poke bowls since before they were a thing and theirs is the best.
I've been coming here since the late 90's. I describe Tommy's as "the best sushi in SoCal". Always fresh... Always good value for the money. In fact, I'm sitting outside right now waiting for them to open. I ALWAYS get a Bronco roll when I come here... And the poke bowls are awesome. If you're into eel, the Black Dragon roll is amazing (so much eel) !!
My go to sushi spot for over a decade. I use to live in NY and would make sure I go there every time I came home. Freshest sushi! Great staff!! I highly recommend the baked scallops and poke bowl with their special hot sauce.
Tommy's has been in Tustin for about 30 years in same location. I believe its changed owners a couple times. It's always busy, food is good, price is good and its always best to sit at the bar. I still go once in a while and i did go the first year it opened. Enjoy !
Have heard great reviews from friends and collegues for 20 years about Tommy's Sushi, finally went myself. I wasn't disappointed - this restaurant is a safe bet. Food is very good and so is the service. Pricing quite reasonable for sushi. Recommended.
Tommy's Sushi is a Tustin staple. They have amazing food and lovely staff at really reasonable prices. I particularly love their Teriyaki Chicken and California Rolls and would recommend them to any casual or avid sushi lovers!
Best and original poke bowl anywhere in the US. They were making them in the 80s before anyone. Super fresh fish, friendly accommodating staff. Excellent sushi.
Excellent friendly service and yummy food. The setting is cozy and an atmosphere conducive to conversations. Go there and enjoy the experience.
Great hole in the wall restaurant. Excellent and creative sushi with terrific poke bowls, too. They have a decent selection of cooked entrees, as well so everyone in the party can be satisfied. They have green tea ice cream but the mango mochi is outstanding
I love Tommy's and have been going there for years. Nice people, great service, amazingly fresh fish and diverse menu. They are open for takeout and I have been doing my part to support them! You'll love it❤
Pretty good food at very reasonable prices. The staff was friendly and attentive. Water was refilled often. The interior is in need of an update, especially the bench seating at the tables, but this is otherwise a great place to grab a bite with friends.
Best sushi I've ever had. I love the fact that it's such a literal hole in the wall from the outside but amazing food! Fresh. The Poki Bowl was incredible. Go. I'll be back. I just happened to be in town from Baltimore.
They are one of the best sushi restaurants ever. It’s so good you have to make sure your whole party is there before sitting at the sushi bar! 💖
Tommy's Sushi is a culinary haven! My go-to is the poke bowl with no rice – a healthy delight bursting with freshness. The sushi is consistently top-notch, showcasing the chefs' skill and dedication to quality. The ambiance is warm, the staff friendly, and the overall experience is a solid five stars. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or a newcomer, Tommy's Sushi is a must-try gem for its exceptional food, presentation, and service. Highly recommended!
Been coming here for over 20 years, it's small dingy and delicious. We have never found a better place anywhere on the planet. Portions on sashimi are excellent, everything is always fresh and the chefs are very friendly. Sit at the bar or in the back and enjoy the night!
Ordered the sashimi omakase, sushi uni and albacore special roll. The quality of fish is exceptional! Some of the best tuna I’ve had. Will definitely come back for more.
So tasty foods! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Good price I was so impressed!! 🥰😍

The best poke bowl the world has ever seen. I've been coming here for nearly 20 years, even multiple times per week for the past decade! Friendly staff and great food in this simple establishment, conveniently located and beloved by locals. Plus, if you don't have time to wait for dine-in, they are great at takeout!
The sushi here and the quality and flavor of all the ingredients is exceptional. Particularly have always been incredibly impressed by the freshness of the fish itself. The food the service, all come together to make this an absolutely exceptional place to have dinner and fantastic night out! One thing they could improve on a bit is the ambience, it leaves a bit to be desired, they could freshen up the interior a bit and make this place a more popular date-night destination. But the atmosphere/ambience in no way detracts from the overall experience, the fantastic food and wonderful service makes this a place one of the best restaurants I highly recommend to everyone!
I think it is my first sushi place in usa ! And it is so cozy and relaxing. I love here sushi and hot sake ! And stuff - so so passionate and kind
Japanese owned family restaurant. A rare gem in Orange County. Best poke bowls in town. Order the special deluxe combo if you’re hungry and on a budget 🔥

Yum! Pleasantly surprised by this place! I was in the area visiting a friend and stopped by. Sat in the traditional seating area (shoes off). A little uncomfortable if you sit too long, but it was an experience. Loved the oyster shooter, the unagi roll (forgot the real name, picture attached), stuffed tomato roll (tuna stuffed with imitation crab meat). Everything we had was delicious. It was nice to go to a restaurant with no expectations and to come out completely satisfied.
Lived here all my life, never new about this place. Came for lunch, the sushi is fantastic, fresh, and delicious. Everything else is eh. Chicken was way over cooked. Service was lacking pretty bad. I'd still go back for the fish.
Good food, the blue fin tuna was the best I've ever had. Interior of restaurant was dirty and very worn. Next time only getting "to go".
Our first time and we really enjoyed ourselves. Our waitress was amazing and the food was great!! Yellowtail sashimi was so fresh. Yellowtail roll was awesome. We will definitely be back!
The food great. Prices too. Service could be better. They wouldn’t bring chopsticks, napkins, water, etc until you asked. But it might’ve been just a busy night for them.
Very authentic sushi restaurant. I really enjoyed the bluefin tuna here. I don't know why everyone says the poke is amazing, it was just standard in my opinion. The service was friendly as well.
Great great Japanese food. Shame not to sit or stand in to eat your soup. Very good menu. Bit pricey
I think Tommy's is now our top spot for sushi in Tustin. It's on the pricier side but you won't be disappointed. Good service too. The restaurant itself could probably use a facelift but it's been around forever so perhaps the longtime regulars wouldn't want to see it change. Good experience overall every time we go.
Poke has become a hip-and-trendy thing lately. But poke bowl at Tommy's Sushi has been a classic for all these years. Tommy's has the best poke bowl ever in my opinion. We always get a large to share among us two. Remember to ask for the dynamite sauce. It'll bring the poke bowl to the next level. Portion is generous with lots of fresh seafood. You are guarantee to want to come back for more. A few other favorites items are fried chicken, baked calamari, yellowtail collar with ponzu sauce, and tanishi (eat with a bowl of rice). The sushi chef are friendly and fun. Servers are always friendly. Service can be a bit slow when they are very busy. The place feels a little old and outdated, but it is a classic restaurant that has been the same for many many years.
Very good old school Sushi and many other Japanese dishes. Everything we had was very good and the prices better than most Japanese restaurants.
Great poke bowls. Good sushi. I'd go back to this tiny little sushi joint any day! If you're not careful you won't even know the secret door is there!! No big sign, just a door with hours besides the yakitori place.
Nice little "hole-in-wall" sushi restaurant. Rolls were tasty with a nice presentation. We ordered teriyaki chicken but they brought out what seemed like a fried chicken entree. We ate it regardless because it was really tasty. Service was excellent. They didn't offer sake bombers on their menu, so you would need to order separately if that's what you're looking for. Service was outstanding.
Been coming here for 30 years. Good sushi but has gone down a bit since Covid. Good that the sushi bar is back up and the plastic curtains are gone. Love all the rolls and their poke bowl is good. Better than most other sushi in the area and decent prices.

This sushi place is great. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀: 1.) They have reasonable prices for the amount of sushi/food. 2.) The staff is amazing and engaging if you're talkative and respectable of your quiet time. 3.) Seating time is reasonable (because it's a hidden GEM for sushi lovers) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀: 1.) They need to upgrade the interior. The booths are uncomfortable. (The separation gap between the tables is huge, and I'm fat!) 2.) The booth seats need a padding replacement. (I'm fat, but my invitees are not, and they were deep in the wooden frame) 3.) There's a lot of unused space in the "tatami floors" section. 4.) The restrooms need an upgrade (but they are very clean) I've lived here for many years, and I'll always come back regardless of the cons. Great lunch spot. Casual environment with great service, but on the expensive side. The poke bowl is a go-to favorite, but go easy on the hot sauce or it could quickly ruin your appetite.
Rolls were too wet with sauce, presumably ponzu, fell apart. Still using old menus, they need to go digital to be safer. The combo plate is a great value with good portions. I order the salmon cheek and sashimi and was pleased with portions. Quality of fish is not the best, but definitely not poor. Pricing was fair and service was prompt as well.
I read all the reviews and decided to go check it out, its definitely a family style restaurant, employees are friendly but the customers were a bit strange. The quality of the fish was about average, the selection of specialty rolls was very limited to none and the price was average to high. If you only like sashimi your good to go but if you like specialty rolls don't waste your time.
We have been coming to Tommy's for close to 15 years. The sushi and service were always so great and fresh. Lately the past few visits have been disappointing 😞. The sushi rolls have been falling apart and the fish cut so thick that it made it hard to chew... when large parties are in the restaurant, the smaller tables seem to be forgotten and unimportant. So sad for such a long standing business that used to be a gem.
I ordered some Tommy's Combos, and the food took so long to come out. Everybody's food came out at different times. The grilled two meat items that I ordered had totally different temps, like one was just sitting out for 20 mins before the other even started cooking. Food tasted ok, but the portions were a little less than I expected. The tables were sticky and still smelled like the dirty rag that was used to wipe it down. The dim lighting also didn't help the food look less depressing.
It has been over a year since I ate at this restaurant. Loved their poke bowl even before the poke bowl fast food restaurant explosion. No longer the same in quality. Their hot sake had a napkin in it. Awful experience. Please check your dishes because a customer may decide to do the irrational unthinkable act like inserting a napkin in a hot sake serving bottle.
The sushi is overpriced for the quality of fish. Our first order was blue fin tuna sushi. The fish is almost dark brown and not buttery at all. Price is 10 bucks for 2 pcs. Decent price but quality is very bad. Service is decent. Sushi bar service is good. I’m only speaking on the quality of fish. One of the worst sushi I’ve tried. Being truthful based on the quality of fish they have.
This place is tucked away discreetly next to the Koki Teppanyaki restaurant. It's sort of a curious place that I've seen that has been in business for some time, so my curiosity finally bit the bullet and I ate food here. The food itself wasn't out of the ordinary, though the miso soup tasted really salty. Service was very good and personable, honestly it was the best thing here, and the establishments decor is a bit dated, and it was a bit stuffy, but bearable. The problems however came later, as I got food poisoning after eating at this restaurant. I think if I didn't get sick, I would have rated this place higher, but I cannot in good conscience say I would come back here. I got so sick that I couldn't even eat for the next four says without feeling nauseous. I wish the food didn't make me sick because the service was so good. Hopefully, the quality of the food improves for the sake of others, but sadly I will not be back.
Did not taste fresh at all. We ordered the premium sashimi omakase and the dragon roll. The sashimi quality was maybe slightly above that of which you would get from a convenience store. Definitely below expectations given the rating. Probably on par with what you’d expect in a small town without much Asian food. The dragon roll was eel on top of a california roll which I have never seen before and was not good. Usually dragon roll is eel on top of a tempura based roll.
We got tuna and octopus sashami and both were just very fishy and when we did not eat the meal, we were thanked for coming. Paid the bill and left. Too bad, it used to be good food.
Came with family to eat dinner tonight . As usual we ordered sushi rolls but my brother in law ordered a love boat to try something new. As he was eating a piece of chicken he felt a piece of hair in his mouth. He pulled it out and it was a long black hair . We were extremely disgusted and brought it to our waitress' attention. All she did was pull the hair out and say need anything else? Uhh how about a new "love boat" that's hairless ! Then she has the nerve to come back with the bill and we are still being charged ! Not once did she offer to replace the disgusting food they gave us so I took it to the manager to remove it because I was not going to pay for it ! As we were paying the waiter laughed at us and said to the owner "why are they making it a big deal its not like they're coming back anyway" and just keeps laughing at us with the other waiters and owner! Never again will we ever come here or recommend it to anyone! And for those who continue to go and find hair in ur food be prepared to be laughed at by the waiters and the owner herself!
I been going there for over 20 years until twice I found Roaches crawling on the sushi bar …. Twice in the same year We have never been back. The place needs a good cleaning.
Got a sushi plate $40. 8 pieces Nigeris and 4 small tuna rolls. Food quality is mediocre at best. Sushi was laid with mint, green onion and other garnish to cover the low quality and not so fresh fish. Uni sushi smelled and tasted like a vomit. Very old pungent smell with "this could make me sick" taste. The waiter seemed tired and didn't want to be there. But it was only 5:30 pm on Thursday. Four of us sat, but only gave us 2 sets of chop sticks. Had to ask 2 times for more disposable chop sticks. Atmosphere was dark and musty, not fancy dark and charming at all. The floor seemed dusty and dirty. We sat in one of those "traditional again dining cube where we took our shoes off and sat on a thin cushion. The divider between us and the group next was a poorly cut thin ply wood from scrap yard or something. Nothing resembling japanese or even close to again artifacts. I have no idea why this place got so high rating. Don't go here.
I have been here once and last time in my life. I came because I read many positive reviews. But when you arrive, the first thing you will mention is a disgusting smell coming from everywhere, untidiness, and so on. Then I usually go to the toilet before ordering something, and I saw the worts and smelly bathroom in my restaurant experience. I was the first guest today, and there are no reasons for this untidiness. So in this circumstance, I didn’t risk myself ordering food here; I think the place where you eat should be clean enough.
We went there because we were told it’s the quintessential local awesome sushi place….wrong!!! The sashimi was completely subpar!!! Not fresh at all. It tasted and had the consistency of previously frozen fish! Never again!!!
dishonest and unfriendly staff. crunchy roll is too sweet - like covered with corn syrup? the bill came with some hand writing - sushi 55$, drinks, total. no details, no price. after I did my math home i can tell they added couple bucks to our total. since my friend brought us there I didnt say anything. but not only it's very inconvenient but also by law you have to give us detailed receipt.
My family and I had been coming here for years, such yummy sushi and service. Was extremely disappointed in how they handled my young daughters food allergy. We discussed get severe reaction to eggs and they assured us that the grilled chicken we ordered would be free from that. Upon getting the chicken we questioned one piece (from the manager or owner) about what it was, she assured again, it was grilled, not fried. My daughter (3) after eating, went into anaphylaxis. The following day we contacted the restaurant, and they were less than apologetic about what occurred. Due to this, I no longer to. Perhaps if you don't have food allergies it would be okay, but for us, it was unacceptable especially after what occurred.
Not sure how this place has 4.5 stars. Its very depressing , old dated , the food was tasteless and service was poor.
