This is easily one of the best pizzas I have had in the state of New Jersey. Very similar to Denino's in Staten Island. Definitely a spot that you must get to.

The absolute best tomato pie in NJ. I've tried so many over the years and Papas always comes out on top. The crust is crispy and flavorful! The perfect amount of cheese. They don't skimp on the sauce. Most tomato pies in the area don't put enough on. Their sauce is the perfect balance sweet and savory. The workers are always pleasant. I drive past 3 well known places to come here.

Continuing with our journey of eating at the 5 oldest pizza establishments. We ate at Papa’s Tomato Pie. Established in 1912 and the oldest in New Jersey as well as in The United States. We got there at around 11:15 am and were the first customers. The exterior and interior of this establishment looked inviting. A little dated but still very comfortable. You can’t help by noticed the Tiffany lighting inside and out. We were greeted and welcomed as first timers. They explained their tomato pie and when questioned about their famous “mustard pie” they said it’s very popular. Let me explain their tomato pie. They construct it with dough cheese and seasoning and top it with their tomato sauce. While the Mustard Pie has the same ingredients and a thin layer of brown spicy mustard then topped with their tomato sauce tomato sauce. Although inviting we elected to go with their tomato pie. While the Mustard Pie is for another day. In addition to the tomato pie we ordered a side of meatballs and birch beer. They do not offer free refills but they are byob. Meatballs arrived first and were good and average in taste. Probably better on a pie or sandwich . The Tomato Pie arrived hot. It had a nice thin crust and the undercarriage had a nice char. The pie was tasty, crispy snd cheesy with just amount of tomato sauce protecting the cheese. This made it a pleasant tasty surprise . They say they cook the pid well done but you can request it to your liking . Prices are competitive under $40 with tip. Portnoy gave it an 8.6. I am giving it an 8.3. Portnoy original score. It’s been over a week and i am beginning to have a crave as i am describing my experience .

Papa's Tomato Pies Thin, crispy crust, bold tomato sauce on top, and just the right amount of cheese. No nonsense just a great NJ tomato pie done right. Worth the stop.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We just had an amazing experience at this pizzeria. We ordered a small Caesar salad, and honestly it was more than enough for two people — incredibly fresh, full of flavor, and they definitely don’t hold back on the ingredients. Every bite felt generous and well balanced. We also tried their famous mustard pizza with sausage, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The thin crust is perfectly baked, light, and crispy, making it easy on the palate and the stomach while still delivering bold, delicious flavor. The combination of mustard and sausage is unique and incredibly satisfying. What makes this place even more special is its more than 100 years of experience — you can truly taste the tradition, craftsmanship, and passion in everything they serve. This is not just pizza; it’s history and excellence on a plate. Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be coming back! 🍕

My first visit to Papa’s completely changed how I feel about pizza. The crust was perfectly thin and crisp, and the tomato sauce had just the right amount of acidity. I’d 100% come back if I were in the area again

The pizza here is fantastic! I honestly think it's even better than NYC pizza. I also like how I've never had to wait to get a table there, since it is never as crowded as DeLorenzo's.

Another tomato pie spot that you can’t order by the slice but let me start by saying this place blows the other pizza place in town out of the water. The crust is so much better than the other place in town and not dry and crackery. Sauce had great taste and the garlic & oil on the pie is just the extra touch of flavor that you truly need. Awesome spot with such a cool, old school feel. It has the same feel as a Pizza Hut from the 90s. Old stained glass light fixtures, big red plastic cups and red and white checkered table cloth. It’s been around for ever and you can tell why. Service was great and the waitress made some great suggestions. I went with a half plain pie because you always have to try out the plain pie when visiting a pizza spot for the first time and the other half was meatball and ricotta which was amazing too. The meatball was packed with flavor and the ricotta was so light and just the perfect amount of sweet. Desserts were amazing as well! I got the mini cannoli and the tiramisu, both were superb. Great spot with an awesome vibe, definitely worth the trip here and best pizza in the local area!

One of my best pizza experiences in New Jersey. Went with the regular & enjoyed every single bite. Crunchy & thin with delicious sauce cheese combo. I can't wait to come back.

A New Jersey institution! Classic pizza restaurant serving delicious tomato pie! We ordered a plain and a sausage and garlic. Both were excellent as evidenced with the fact I ate four slices! With a crisp thin crust, is unique creation topped with a tangy sauce. Our hostess was friendly was very attentive providing us with great service! Papa's is a great alternative to Delorenzos also located in Robbinsville, walking distance nearby. I recommend Papa's, it's affordable and BYOB!

Surely a legendary spot, Papa's has been operating since 1912. The tomato pie remains the best I've had -- ever --especially the remarkable sauce. I recall being at the previous location in Trenton and seeing 2 fellows hovering over a fresh batch, as though it were as important as a newborn child. The dedication remains today. The pizza is perfect with the magnificent sauce, crispy crust and superb cheese. Also a humble and comfortable dining area, excellent service and plenty of parking in the "new" location in Robbinsville, New Jersey. A must for everyone.

Authentic Trenton Tomato Pie- crispy crust, deep red tomato sauce and great blend of flavors. We added fresh garlic and sausage. The sausage was delicious and nice that it was chunks instead of sliced. Perfectly cooked Great place, great food!

Fantastic Thin Crust Pizza. We also got their Olive🫒 salad 🥗 that was almost as legendary as their amazing pizza. Will definitely be a return trip in near future. Comfortable and cool on the inside perfect for inside dining on a 🥵 day.

We usually just order take out from here, pizza and chicken Ceasar salads, but decided to come and sit down for a Friday dinner with family. The wait wasn't too bad given how packed it was. Friendly staff. Tried Margherita pizza first time it was OK, for me the original papa's Basil pie is an absolute winner here. We like their chicken Ceasar, but this time tried pear/ nuts vinegarette salad it was very good. Caprese salad was good too. Stuffed artichoke was heavenly! From all pasta dishes we ordered, gnocchi with sausage in vodka sause was the best for me, chicken marslala was OK, so was spaghetti and meatballs. Overall was very nice experience.

Old fashioned place, old fashioned tomato pies, excellent waitress, great vibe!! Established in 1912! We love these places that have been around forever ❤️ Thin crust, lots of tomatoes. Our pizza had sausage and hot peppers. The three olive salad was so good, with lots and lots of olives 🫒 Great place to take the team after a ballgame. Excellent prices. The restaurant is accessible♿️, lots of space inside. Booths and tables - and outside seating too. Pick up “window” for take away orders. Lots of parking.

My favorite style of pizza, cracker thin with cheese on the bottom & sauce on top. All pies are well done. The zucchini sticks were great also. The place is small and has a no frills vibe. Very affordable.

Probably the best tomato pie you'll ever like or try. Mine was even good cold the next day!

While the pizza is the draw, the service and decor are lacking. They need to update the place. And no free refills? Time to move on and give people a refill, seems petty. And when we ordered water, we did receive a pitcher of water but also were chastised for doing so. We also were almost wearing the water when she delivered the pitcher and cups for us to pour ourselves. Don't come for the service for sure. Even the hostess has an attitude and do it yourself kind of thing - pointing to a table, handing you your. menus and says - go sit there.

The pizza here was genuinely great. The sauce had an decent flavor, the crust had just the right amount of crispiness, and there was absolutely no flop on the slice just how I like it. It wasn't super shocked like an "oh my god this is great pizza." I've definitely had better and I was a bit unimpressed with all the hype this place has gotten and from what I've heard. The only other thing that surprised me was the price. I paid $18 for a small plain pie, which feels a bit on the pricey side. Overall, pretty decent pizza, but definitely a little overpriced.

As someone who's a history buff I jumped at the chance to mix two of my favorite things which is history and pizza since this is the oldest family run pizza place in America and the second oldest overall. But sadly I could only do takeout as I had somewhere else to be. I walked up to the takeout counter the clerk took my order and I waited 15mins outside on the porch. You can also call in the order ahead for pickup. The pizza itself was good it's just simple dough and tomato sauce but it was still good

Pizza was amazing!!!! Pasta was over cooked and small portions. Shrimp was tasty but the bacon was just soggy and the toast points they were on were drenched in sauce so it just became mushy bread under the appetizer. Sad because it had potential !!!

Since I live about 5 miles away from Papa’s for the past 20 years, my family and I have countless number of experiences eating their hyped up tomato pies. Unfortunately, for the past 7-8 years, and even more recently, the quality of Papa’s has gone down while the prices have gone up. The best component of their pizza is the sauce, very flavorful, and spooned in patches over the cheese. Although the cheese has good somewhat buttery flavors, it’s gotten sparser over the years and averages over 1 to 2 inches away from the outer edge of the crust and is often not covered by the sauce or toppings, making the outer pizza extremely dry. Now about the crust…, although it’s made in the New York style; thin and crispy, deviating from NY style by putting the cheese on top of the dough before adding the sauce - it’s too crispy and hard…, you better have strong teeth and no rear dentures… Overall, the ratings for this pizzeria may have been justified once upon a time, but for the past 7-8 years it’s been only ordinary, sometimes even underwhelming… If you’re driving from way out of town to give Papa’s Tomato pie a try, including their unique Mustard Pie, save yourself a trip because you’ll be severely disappointed…!
