Sarah and the crew were such a delight to hang out with while enjoying the best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had. They’re one of the only places here in the High Desert that still makes everything in house, breaded at all. I can’t express how great of a family feeling it is, even for my first time eating alone, it felt like I made some new friends and definitely look forward to visiting again soon.
I loved this place good service, good food, and the history. I highly recommend visiting Emma Jean's Holland Burger
Absolutely love this place! The burgers are delicious, juicy, and cooked perfectly—every bite is full of flavor. The menu has great variety, and everything tastes fresh and made with care. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, making every visit enjoyable. The cafe has a cozy, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or enjoying a meal with friends and family. If you’re looking for classic, flavorful burgers and a warm, friendly dining experience, Emma Jean’s Holland Burger Cafe is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back!
This is a great experience to be had on Route 66! We had the Brian Burger and tator tots. So delicious! Be sure to read the plaque outside too!
We had the Brian burger, biscuits and gravy, and the trucker’s breakfast with coffee. It’s not what I usually get, but the super greasy meal with the strong coffee is what you want at the diner. The diner has been here since the 40’s and has been featured in Kill Bill Volume 2, Sky (2015 film), Train’s Bulletproof Picasso music video, and Season 1 Episode 2 of The Old Man. I even loved that some of the fixtures in the restroom were still original (or at least very old). The biscuits and gravy taste more like grits than gravy, but the salsa were great. I think they make it in house. I hope they continue to survive and keep their vibe.
From the moment I walked into this Emma Jean's, I knew it was something special. The smell of sizzling beef hit me first — smoky, savory, and irresistible. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between casual and fun: retro vibes, warm lighting, and just the right soundtrack humming in the background. I ordered their signature burger, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The patty was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to a flawless medium—still pink in the center, bursting with flavor. The bun was soft yet sturdy enough to hold everything together without getting soggy. Toppings were fresh and thoughtfully balanced: crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, melted cheese, and a house-made sauce that tied it all together beautifully. Every bite felt like the perfect ratio of meat, bread, and flavor. The fries deserve their own mention — golden, crispy, and lightly salted, served piping hot. Even the dipping sauces were clearly made in-house, adding another layer of quality that sets this place apart. The service was friendly, attentive, and fast without feeling rushed. You can tell the staff really care about what they’re serving. Whether you’re a burger purist or someone who loves creative twists, this restaurant absolutely delivers. I’ll definitely be back — probably sooner than I should be.
Been wanting to try this place but I was always passing by on Monday when they are closed. Finally got to go on a Sunday. Food is terrific. I got a Baldy Mesa (chili/cheese omelette) and my wife had the chicken fried steak. Very satisfying. It's very small (intimate?), but the service and atmosphere is top notch.
Great diner spot on old route 66. They make some of my favorite burgers I've had. The Brian burger and Hot Pattie Grilled on Rye being my favorites standard from the menu. I've always had good interactions and service from the staff. They keep my ice tea filled and check in regularly. If I need something, I just ask, and they get it for me. I love the diner experience; eating at the counter and watching the cooks cook the food on the flattop in front of everyone. It's cool to see so such a mix of locals, workers and travelers come in to eat.
Well lived up here in HD for almost 30 yrs and always said I was gonna come here well finally I stopped in with my family and man I've been missing out on some good food got there bout lunch time I of course had to order "Slap yo momma" and it was not only big but delicious son had the Brian burger and he said it was delicious and wife had the classic French dip and not one of us was disappointed now can't wait to come in and have breakfast there portions are great and the ranch was thick not that runny stuff most restaurants use loved definitely a most go to if passing bye or shoot I live bout 30 miles from there and was well worth it and or waitress was great all people in there very friendly and courteous so if you coming thru HD stop by and check it out
This place is historic and family owned. Best diner by far. Off Hwy 18 towards Air Expressway. This diner has been on the cooking channel with Bobby Flay and other opportunities have taken place there. There food is amazing and they serve from early in the morning to mid afternoon. I highly recommend stopping by.
We travelling New Zealanders stumbled upon this brilliant diner on our route 66 experience. What caught our attention was the sight of two lovely ladies selling handcrafts outside. Entering this family owned and run diner we were made to feel so welcome , sitting up at the diner amongst super friendly locals. Fantastic coffee, breakfast we ordered was delicious and fresh and the owners and team made this a memorable experience. Highly recommend .
A true diner. The food is simple and delicious. I had the mushroom bacon burger with onion rings and it was perfect. My daughter had the kids' chicken tenders meal and she was very happy. My son had the trucker's special with French toast. My husband had an omelet with fried potatoes and a pancake. Everything was delicious! It seems to be busy and has limited seating, so be prepared to wait. And their restrooms are very clean (my daughter was very impressed).
First time visiting Emma Jean’s Holland Burger Cafe. A very enjoyable breakfast and experience overall. The cafe’s good food and storied history lives up to its reputation. The reason I look forward to returning belongs to the staff who deserve praise. Friendly and attentive, it was a pleasure to speak with our Waitresses and especially the Cook. It is always a treat when a cafe is set up to allow the Cook to work front-and-center amongst its patrons. To the staff at Emma Jean’s Holland Burger Cafe: Many thanks and see you soon. Ian & Jess 💛💜
Emma Jean's Holland Burger Cafe Route 66 Victorville, California Before leaving Victorville, California, yesterday, we decided to have breakfast at Emma Jean's Holland Burger Cafe. This historic and iconic Diner has been serving hungry travelers on Route 66 since 1947. This diner has appeared in a kill Bill Movie and music videos. So what better way to end our Route 66 Road trip than to dine at this historic Diner on Route 66. The Diner is open till 2:45 PM except on Saturday (Closes at 12:45 PM) and closed on Sunday. We will just say that the food was delicious and the service was great. The plates were rather large. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with two eggs and potatoes and your choice of sides. The Chicken Fried Steak was so big that it came on a separate dish from the potatoes and eggs. You also get your choice of sides, which are toast, biscuits and gravy, or a pancake. I opted for biscuits and gravy. The chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly, and everything was delicious. I tried my vest to finish it but it was a large amount of food. I also knew that we would have a desert. Chuck had the Ortega Three egg omelet, and that was pretty big itself, and he also picked biscuits and gravy as his side. He told me it was delicious and was not greasy at all. After our breakfast, we wanted to try the Blueberry cobbler. The cobbler was delicious, especially with the ice cream. The portion was also large, so we only ordered one to share. The staff members were great. They were friendly and attentive. They checked on us as well as the other patrons frequently. We also noticed the shirts they were wearing and asked if we could purchase those shirts. The design on the back really caught my eye, so we purchased two. Overall, our experience was great. The ambiance and atmosphere of a true diner, the delicious food, and excellent service made it a memorable and great experience.
Food was great! Cute and cozy. Very busy spot people constantly coming in, which is a good sign. Would love to stop here again when I'm in the area. Or make my way out on a bike ride.

Such a great diner on old Route 66! Quirky, historic, busy - the food and service were excellent! I was transported to the 1950s - if you're into Route 66, like we are, make this a stop!

This place has a lot of charm and character. The waitress/owner Shawna, who is daughter-in-law of the founder Emma Jean, told me about Guy Fieri's visits here which tells you a lot about the food and popularity. Just driving by, you wouldn't even think about stopping. However, the many great reviews and the fact that Fieri is a fan of this place are enough to convince people to give it a try. My wife tried the French Dip -- taste was good; but the meat could have been more tender. I had the Brian Burger (which was named after Shawna's late husband) -- it was quite good. It is a smashed burger on Texas toast with cheese and mild Ortega pepper. My daughter ordered the Slap "yo" Mama -- check the attached menu photo for a description. She pronounced it to be excellent and worthy of 5 stars. Service was great and the ambiance is certainly fun. I would have liked to give an overall 5 star rating; but the first two meals mentioned only merited 4 stars.
This tiny diamond in the ruff is a great spot in Victorville. Small but great, food was good seating if your able to get a table your in luck. Best get there early. Definitely recommend a stop if your heading to or from Vegas off the 15fwy just off the road bout quarter mile if that. Gots some history value to it, if you love small family businesses and old school diners this one's the one you want to see. It's featured on guys diners, drive-in and dives.

They say you only have one opportunity to make a good impression and today your establishment blew that opportunity. We drove up from San Diego to explore Route 66 in the high desert. We've heard wonderful things about this place so we planned our day's main meal to eat here. We pulled up and lot was full about 3 parties ahead of us. We asked them if they were waiting and they said yes. We walked in an were excited to eat as the food looked and smelled delicious. We gave the server our name and she did not even write it down. She seemed overwhelmed as she was taking orders, cleaning tables, answering the phone and acting as the hostess. We noticed a family at the counter wrapping up and assumed they would call the folks waiting before us, so we decided to wait outside. We were taking pictures and saw this family pull up, park and walk in. They walked in the side door and just sat at the counter. The other people started asking if they were there already and I mentioned i saw them pull after we checked in. We went inside to ask how long the wait was and told the server that family was seated before everyone else. She seemed super irritated and answered back in a short tone. I know mistakes are made and people are not perfect. Sadly, we left after waiting for about 30 minutes. The 3 parties ahead of us were still waiting after we left. Most likely won't be back after this experience.
