We ate at the restaurant. Lamb burger was beautiful, loco moco was amazing even if eggs were a little well done. The gravy was so flavorful. Our family also had an amazing Crab burger and the trio French toast was perfect.

We were staying on the Kona side of the island, but we wanted to stay the night one night close to the Hawaii volcano national Park, which is my first recommendation. Kilauea Lodge was one of the number one recommendations on my Facebook group and we booked it right away. We decided to do the honeymoon suite which is room 11, Mostly because it had a fireplace and a balcony and we utilized both! We absolutely loved our room! We made reservations well in advance at the restaurant for dinner Which I also highly recommend! Breakfast in the morning was small, but fresh and perfect, and all we needed Before getting on our way north to head to the botanical gardens and Akaka falls! It was a perfect stay, and we will definitely be back!!

We had a wonderful dinner at Kilauea Lodge. Makayla was a wonderful server. It was nice to meet Patrick the new kitchen manager. The food was amazing. Had the crab cakes, risotto, and carrot cake for dessert. Highly recommend, but strongly suggest making a reservation at least a day in advance.

Never been here before to this historic lodge and restaurant. Lived here a long time on the Big Island and feel silly not visiting this awesome place before. Only ate at the restaurant, but haven’t stayed in the cabins yet. But, based on the restaurant experience alone I was very happy and could imagine the cabins being great as well. Beautiful scenery and a nice nature trail surround the location. The ambience and food of the restaurants was great!

Our family of 4 had an outstanding lunch at the lodge; it was Sunday around noon and there was great live music. Plus, the service was amazing and food was both good and a great value! We highly recommend a stop before and after the national park! We are hoping to stay here if we come back to Hawaii…super convenient location!!! Images taken after 3/4 of good already eaten :).

I just had one of the best meals of my life at Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing, but what really made it special was my server, Megan. She treated me like I was the number one customer from start to finish. Super friendly, super on point. I ordered the ribeye with a loaded baked potato, and I couldn’t believe how good it was. Everything was perfectly prepared. The steak was cooked just right, and that potato was incredible. I cleaned my plate without even thinking about it. So good! Huge thanks to Megan and the team for making it such a great experience. If you’re in the area, definitely stop by. Five stars all the way.

Only went to Restaurant for breakfast and it was amazing. Eggs Benedict & Omelets served at our table was out of this world.

Had a wonderful stay in Kilauea Lodge: - The rooms were spacious, clean and quiet - Lovely hot tub and logs for a fire in the common room - Great food, we never ate outside the lodge while we were here; really liked the chicken alfredo fettuccine, portions were so large that we always just split one (photos of the portions are half, they split the food into two plates for us every time) - Conveniently located near Volcanoes national park and secluded with tropical plants; you hear the birds chirping and crickets; very lovely

The service and thoughtfulness of this place will surprise even the pickiest of travelers. The rooms are varied with each having interesting quirks. Our party booked two rooms- the first had a bay window looking over the tree canopy and a common room downstairs. The second had an amazing glass ceiling in the bathroom. Other small things like the towel warmers, the umbrellas next to the door, and the wood at the fireplace lets you know the care that the hotel staff puts into your stay.

This beautiful Lodge and restaurant is very close to Hawaii volcanoes national Park. absolutely beautiful setting and a great place for dinner. Expect to pay over $50 a person for some great quality food. We tried the grilled steak which was so tender and the mushroom risotto and both were excellent. Service was on point which you would expect

Went to the restaurant after a full day at Volcanos National Park. We got the Chicken Diane and the Chicken Alfredo. It was THE BEST of both we’ve ever had and it was take out!! Definitely recommend!!

We took my parents to lunch for their anniversary. The hostess, Ashley immediately seated us even though we were :15 early. The service by Heather was impeccable. The food was delicious! And the staff even went above and beyond by giving my parents an anniversary card signed by all the staff!

Delicious brunch! The crab 🦀 cake eggs Benedict was top notch, and the potatoes are delicious. So ono. Great service, coffee was always full. Trio French toast on Punalu’u bread was decadent.

We had SUCH a lovely stay at the Kilauea Lodge! We would absolutely stay here again! It is beautifully maintained, run with excellence, and is the perfect location if you want to be close to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Incredible to be able to just pop over to check out the volcano, go for long hikes, and enjoy all that Volcano Village has to offer (shops, restaurants, and the winery!). We split our stay between 2 rooms -- Kimura and Hapu'u -- and loved them both. The rooms were immaculate, the bath towel warmers were a nice touch, and the gas fireplaces were downright dreamy. We so appreciated the complimentary drinking water and how easy it was to ask for it to be refilled as needed. The Kimura room had particularly plush chairs. Since there was no AC, we kept the screened windows open, so do remember to bring ear plugs if you want to block outside noise for sleeping (it's minimal -- people talking as they walk by, doors closing, insect/forest noise, etc.), but the windows kept it nice and cool at that elevation, and they've done a lovely job keeping the grounds as quiet as possible, unlike most hotels these days! So nice to have dining options on the premises (great to not have to drive at night!). Impeccable service from the lodge and restaurant staff; from the moment we checked in until we checked out, they made everything SEAMLESS! Loved their texting system that allowed us to text questions, needs for the room (e.g., TP, water), etc. They've really thought of everything -- umbrellas, robes, etc. Special shout out to Janet, Suzy, & the team for going above and beyond in making my husband's birthday so special by creating birthday cards to be waiting for him in the room as I requested. Beautiful stay in a truly magical place. We'll be back!

This is a gem 💎 minutes from the volcano national Park. We booked this place the very last min to stay overnight and not drive back to our hotel in Kono. I didn't expect much but I was surprised by the beauty of this little cozy place. The room is so comfy and clean and very well equipped with all you need. The decorations are very tasteful and blend in the environment. The hot top was a bonus. We had dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed the local wine 🍷

Just had the most excellent dinner here with 4 adults and a 2 year old. We all enjoyed our meals, but the highlight was the mushroom risotto with shrimp - it may have been the best risotto I've had. My 2 year old enjoyed the shrimp so much that we ordered another side and they also brought out extra asparagus when they noticed my daughter had stolen almost all of my husband's. They brought me a taste of the volcano wine, and the rose I ordered when I deemed the volcano wine too sweet was excellent. Adam was a great server, and we overall really enjoyed the meal. The incredibly well curated gift shop was icing on the cake!

Amazing service and food, kudos to David and the staff. It was late night and almost all restaurants were closed. Luckily we found this restaurant, they were about to close too, but they still accepted our order, prepared yummy and delicious food. We ordered the mushroom risotto and Balsamic Brussels sprouts must try. Thank you so much for your service. Really made our day ❤️🥰

Beautiful property next to the entrance of the volcano national park. We stayed for two nights. Rooms though a bit dated, are extremely clean and comfortable. Everyone I encountered is super nice and friendly. The cottage room we stayed at is just perfect for family. It is like we own this little place, so quiet and secluded. When waking up in the morning, beautiful sun light shines through the colorful window and birds chirps happily outside. It is that magical moment that I will never forget. The half mile natural trail is like a small botanical garden, with so many wonderful plants and flowers. Strongly recommend this place and would love to stay longer if we had plan more activities around.

My husband and I stopped by after a busy day in Hawai’i Volcano National Park and had a fantastic meal. I got the lamb chops and my husband the ribeye. My lamb was cooked perfectly, so tender, and had amazing flavor. The vegetables were even delicious. My husband was having a hard time deciding between the Chicken Diane and the Ribeye so the sever suggested ribeye with the Diane sauce, both were really good. We shared a bit of the meals and I would highly recommend if you like Diane sauce to get it with the lamb it was so good. We ordered the chocolate cake for dinner and it was just the perfect amount of sweet (not overly sweet more of a dark chocolate feel). Also they have a little gift shop on site and they have really cool shirts. I would check that out if you want to get shirts featuring Volcano National Park

We stayed at the hotel for one night and had dinner at the restaurant. It was the best meal of our week in Kona. The mushroom risotto and chicken fettuccine were both great, as was the garlic bread appetizer. The guava margarita was great. We were in the area on our honeymoon and we got a very sweet congratulations card from the restaurant staff, all staff at the restaurant and hotel were so kind and welcoming. The gift shop attached to the restaurant sold local art. As far as the hotel goes, everything about this property is beautiful and there is a lot of attention paid to comfort. Our room was spotless and beautiful with high ceilings and a small stained glass window. Breakfast is closed to the public during the week but for what its worth, that was also delicious- especially the Hawaiian sweet bread French toast. This is a really special place, highly recommend!

My husband and I had an amazing experience here on our honeymoon! Janet and Susie were nothing short of welcoming and helpful with guiding us on where to spend our short time on Hawaii. Thank you, also, for being part of our gender reveal! You helped make it an unforgettable experience. The wait staff at the lodge were all wonderful as well- Hannah, Rikko, Heather, and Alex were all very friendly and attentive. We didn't have a single disappointing meal. The best food on our entire vacation was had at the lodge, hands down! The rooms were beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The area was quiet and serene - no bustling traffic or noises of city life. We already started talking about coming back before we even left. Thank you all for your hospitality! We hope to see you again soon!

I absolutely love this place and would recommend it 100%! We received such a warm welcome and were delighted to find a cozy room with a fireplace—what a blessing on a rainy day! The bed is super comfortable, and I was especially impressed by the bathroom. They have a towel heater on the wall, so every time I used my bath towel, it was warm and just melted my heart. We were just looking for a place to stay for the night before heading to the National Volcano Park, but we were truly amazed by our experience. And the breakfast? A perfect 10/10! I loved the French toast, so make sure you try it too!

We celebrated our daughter’s birthday with brunch at Kilauea Lodge Restaurant. Everything about our visit was exceptional. Beautiful, charming ambiance. Attentive, friendly service. Great food. Large portions and fair price. We enjoyed walking the nature trail behind the lodge after our meal. Would highly recommend!

Stayed here 2 nights out of a week stay on the island. The location was nice and quick to get to the national park and close to other amenities/food as well. Room was great and clean and exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed the communal hot tub after a long hiking day in the parks as well. They provide a Continental breakfast Mon - Sat and it was a nice start to our morning. Sunday the restaurant hosts a brunch (extra $) but we did not partake in that. I don't think rooms have AC for the hotter times but this wasn't an issue for us in Jan. I would recommend this lodge to anyone looking to stay in Volcano.

We stayed in the honeymoon suite which was about $440 for the night in January 2026. It is a fabulous room with a wood-burning fireplace and a private balcony overlooking the foliage in the back. They also have a half mile hike out behind the lodge that is good for relaxing and for birdwatching. The continental breakfast is nice, but get there early because it got quite crowded and they did run out of some things the day we were there. Be aware that this lodge is outside of the volcanoes national park, and that if you are going to see an active eruption, you are better served by staying at the Volcano House in the actual national park. Also, if you are in the military, they do have the Kilauea Military Camp in the national park with what appears to be fabulous cottages.

We had a wonderful two-night stay as the first part of our honeymoon. The rooms feel tucked away in a tropical rainforest and rustic enough to be charming, yet still comfortable with all the amenities you need. Very easy access to the national park. Highly recommend!

Restaurant review- Delicious red bell pepper soup. Edamame was the groups favorite. Iconic lodge from 1938 - a must visit!

We celebrated our anniversary here for dinner. The service was excellent as was the delicious dinner. This place operates in the city of Volcano near the Kilauea volcano and National Park. Overall, the meal was a little pricey, however, all things considered, not unreasonable. Especially given the quality of service and deliciousness of the food. We will visit here again when returning to the area.

We had absolutely amazing dinner. Fantastic historic lodge atmosphere. Food was really well prepared. We loved our grilled rib eye, caprese salad, and chocolate strawberry cake. They include local wines from Volcano Winery on the menu. Our server was very friendly. We will come back on our future visits to the area.

This review is for the restaurant. We were staying in Volcano and came for dinner. The atmosphere is Hawaii casual and charming. The service, drinks (old fashioned) and food were excellent. We shared the brussel sprouts appetizer and had risotto with chicken and chicken Diane. All very good. I was disappointed the lodge didn’t have a bar in the restaurant-it would be a great addition!

It was hard to get a table at their restaurant and they just said they were all booked but 2/3 of the tables were empty. We eventually got our table and the food and service, in deed, were good. We loved their garlic cheese bread in the hot iron tray and Brie dish very unique. During the wait, visited their gift shop and had a pleasure to look over some local artists prints and jewelry.

We were really looking forward to our dinner here after having the restaurant hyped up by locals and through reviews. Unfortunately, we were let down with both the service and food. Our waiter really only spoke to us when we ordered and were paying, we watching him speak with and check in on every other table multiple times (there were only maybe 3 other tables the entire time). I ordered wine the volcano wine, and it was suggested by the waiter that I try a glass before ordering due to the sweetness, I tasted it and asked for a glass of it. The glass of wine was forgotten about, and when we asked about it after about 15 minutes, it still took a while to receive. Then, when we received our bill, we were charged for the taste! The best part of the meal was the dessert. The food wasn't as great as we had hoped, and the meal my husband wanted was not available. The atmosphere was relaxing and well kept. I did appreciate the card for our anniversary, it was a nice touch. Overall an average experience for what we paid.

This is for the restaurant only. Exceptional food and service. Tho heads up dinner is about $50 per head so be prepared. Lots of parking. Can be busy so a reservation is preferred. Great food with a gluten free menu!

Restaurant had a great atmosphere. Steak was tough. If you order the garlic cheese bread, don’t fill up too fast. We made that mistake. Soup was very salty. Overall, positive experience.

Here's a revised version of your review: We visited this restaurant after a long day of hiking and loved the ambiance. Every window offered beautiful views of the surrounding trees. The service was good, and the food was satisfying. I ordered the ribeye, which was perfectly cooked. The dessert, however, was just okay — the lava cake seemed imported. Overall, we had a good experience.

Had a late lunch, which was good. Would like to go back sometime for dinner. Was accommodating to my wife's allergy. Worth a visit if you are going to the park/in the area.

We had a fantastic dinner in a truly unique setting—an old YMCA camp full of charm and character. We sat beside the “Friendship Fireplace,” which oozed culture and history, adding an unforgettable ambiance to the evening. We shared the ribeye topped with asparagus and mushrooms in garlic butter—cooked to perfection and absolutely bursting with flavor. The macadamia nut-crusted crab cakes were also a hit: crisp, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Our server was knowledgeable, professional, and attentive throughout the night. When she wasn’t sure about a wine pairing, she checked with the bartender and returned with an excellent suggestion that perfectly complemented the meal. The only thing that fell short was dessert. The cheesecake tasted store-bought and lacked the same care and quality as the rest of the meal. Still, the setting, service, and main courses more than made up for it. A solid 4-star experience—and definitely a place we’d return to.

We stopped here after visiting the national park. We were a party of 6. They asked if they could split us into a party of 4 & 2 for seating. We said OKAY but little did we know that we would be on opposite sides of the place. The meal was a little pricey. $18 for 2 side-salads & $43 for our Daily Catch. Meal was good but I think I would look at other places if I am back in Volcano, HI

So this place was an absolute gem when we first moved to volcano about two years ago. Since then, every time that we go into this establishment, there has been a problem. Service is usually very good but lately the food has been subpar. The sandwiches used to be on a ciabatta bread. They are now on a croissant that is not even warmed or pliable. We like to go during the brunch hours. Lately the best thing at this establishment has been the soup and the salad, which is a shame because the whole menu used to be great, but between staff messing up your order sometimes and the food just being bland, I’m not sure if we will be going anymore.

We had a recent dinner at Kilauea Lodge, a restaurant that we have been coming to for years with an incredible lodge vibe in a magnificent location. On this visit, the entree prices were quite high, $49.00 for my entree. The rate would have been acceptable and I would have no complaint, but my ribeye steak with baked potato, while tasty, was barely lukewarm. The potato was so cool, it would not melt the butter. Granted, I did not complain, but I should not have to tell the kitchen how to heat their food and I do not trust sending food back to a kitchen.

K
Karen Kao

Food is very mixed. Chicken Diane & lamb chops were wonderful. Fish special was over cooked, dry, and bland. They charge 4% additional fee to cover costs which should have been built into menu prices. Beware of asking for extra sauce- $5 charge! Service was slow.

On January 4, 2025, we attended my great-grandson’s 100th-day celebration at Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant. While I was hoping for a pleasant gathering, it unfortunately turned out to be a disappointment. The service was acceptable, though the orders took longer than expected. I tried to be understanding, as they may have been understaffed. However, when the food finally arrived after quite some time, I was initially happy to see it—until the server messed up my order. Despite waiting further, my food still didn’t come, and I noticed that guests who arrived after me were already being served. Feeling both shocked and upset, I stepped outside for a moment to calm down. When I returned, the food was finally there, but by then, my appetite was gone, and I didn’t touch it. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the disappointing experience. I believe this place has great potential, but they really need to work on improving their service.

This Review is Solely for the Restaurant: This place has a top 3 all-time WORST burger i've ever had in my life. You could not request the burger to be medium-rare, and could only do medium, but in fact it came out basically cooked to a crisp. Also the amount of fries on the plate were maybe like 8 fries or so, we had to request more, it was absurd We also had a group of 5 go before us, because the waitress forgot she put us in the corner where the gift shop was, this impacted our wait by about 20-25min Finally, to get the check, we had to stalk down the waitress, as that took an additional 15min. DO NOT GO HERE FOR FOOD - IT WAS TERRIBLE

Disappointing dinner. We had Korean grilled chicken and soup of the day with a salad. The tomato soup was so bland, I don't think it had basil or garlic or anything, and tasted a little like spaghetti sauce. The soup was $14 for a bowl and didn't include bread or crackers. Very plain. The salad was fine, I guess, a bowl of romaine with box croutons and overly sweet dressing. I am not sure what was Korean about the chicken breast, but it would have been fine for $20. It was disappointing at $43. The pickled veg was - odd. Very sweet. The brocolini was good, if a bit buttery. The ambiance was kind of medium upscale diner, very brightly lit, servers dressed very casually, a grid of tables with fake flowers on each. Meh. Overall, very overpriced and really just average.

This review is for the restaurant only!! Given the google ratings and menu, we had high expectations which unfortunately were not met at all. Our experience started with a very surly hostess who was not warm or welcoming at all. We had 5 PM reservations, got there at 4:55, and were brusquely told that 1) seating would begin at 5 PM, 2) we were the third on the list to be seated, and 3) wait in the gift shop. As we waited, we listened to her have the same attitude to others, so it wasn’t us. We eventually got seated (about 15 minutes later) after a table that didn’t have any reservations, but arrived a few minutes before we did. We would have thought regardless of when you walked in the door, if you had reservations, you had priority, but not here. Our server was very nice, but absolutely not prepared. We were told the fresh local catch was salmon (not local at all), and they may (or may not) have Mahi Mahi, which is local (they did not). We quickly ordered the Farm Fresh Salad, the “Local Catch” (salmon), and the Korean Grilled Chicken as we weren’t sure how fast the kitchen would be, and with a number of tables seated right when we were, we didn’t want to take any chances given our experience with this place so far. As an aside, we noticed that some tables had bread, but we were not offered nor was it provided. It looked good from afar; however. The Farm Fresh Salad came quickly, and it was laughable. For $15, we got a bunch of chopped romaine lettuce, a couple of halved cherry tomatoes, a few slices of cucumber, some red onion, and a handful of croutons — with a papaya seed dressing. Unfortunately, this salad did not live up to its Farm Fresh name. Our main dishes followed. The shining star of the night was the salmon which was cooked perfectly; however it sat atop a very overpowering macadamia romesco puree, and the vegetables underneath seemed to be what the kitchen had on hand rather than a dish with any sort of intention. The same can be said of the Korean Grilled Chicken — it just seemed like a bunch of mismatched food on a plate. The chicken was not very inspired: a lightly seasoned, plain, overcooked chicken breast. The broccolini had potential in its flavor, but it was not hot at all inside. The rice seemed to have some sort of syrup on it rather than melded and infused flavors. The pickled vegetable accompaniment was the one highlight on this seemingly random plate of food. After we quickly ate our main courses, our plates were cleared, and we were shown a display of three desserts. By that point, given the overall experience and cost of the dinner thus far, we decided to skip it. While the desserts looked good (we weren’t sure how much they cost as the prices weren’t listed on the menu), we did not partake. And, our nice, but unprepared server wasn’t sure whether there was a 4th choice (something about a cookie) or not. Our bill without tip, was nearly $110 with no drinks. High prices are one thing to be expected on this island, but all we could say was ‘wow’ (and not in a good way).

Was part of a Backroads trip. Showed up early as I was meeting the group for pre-planned lunch. Was told I could not wait inside and could not be seated until entire group arrived. Was told I could wait outside in Gazebo. It was 50 degrees and raining. Antithesis of Hawaiian hospitality.
