We ordered original doghap, mango doghap, goshnan, royal laghman, and the sutlach for dessert. The doghaps were pretty good with nice flavor, a bit heavy as you continue to drink it. The goshnan was the perfect bite size pieces with the condiment that came with it. The star of the show was definitely the royal laghman. The hand pulled noodles were cooked to perfection and excellent chewy/bounciness. The sutlach was great as well. Similar to a rice pudding but a creme brulee on top. Highly recommend and would definitely return. Service was A+ from beginning to end.
Dolan is such an amazing and unique restaurant! If you have never had Uyghur cuisine before, I highly recommend! The food is very warm and comforting, great for a cold day! I’m not vegetarian, but my friend was and she said the vegetarian options were great. Great food, great atmosphere, great service :)
As someone who hasn't had Uyghur food before, I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the flavour these dishes had. All three were slightly spicy and sweet, slightly hotter than mild. The staff and service was quick and we had their Honey cake to finish the meal which was delectable. Highly recommend giving the restaurant a try if you are on the edge about Uyghur cuisine
Dolan serves amazing Xinjiang food! Everything tastes authentic, but the Big Plate Chicken is an absolute must-try — flavorful, generous portion, tender chicken, and delicious noodles. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is great. Highly recommend!
Great tasting, authentic Uyghur food 5 feet from Cleveland Park metro stop. Place was packed and there are so many great tasting dishes. I was hoping for some of the Uyghar bread I used to get in Beijing years ago but did not see any.
Delicious Uyghur cuisine which was interesting and different because it was a fusion of Central Asian and Chinese cooking styles. The flavors of each of our dishes were savory and aromatic with an emphasis on spices. We started with the Cold Egg Noodle which was a vibrant and refreshing meal with a savory, nutty and tangy flavor profile. For my main, I had the Pearled Noodles with Beef. The noodles had a chewy texture combined with tender beef in a gentle, mild spice. Lastly, for dessert, I had the Chocolate Baklava. The sweet syrup along with the flaky pastry was a great way to close out the meal. Overall, a delicious and unique dining experience.
Had the most excellent time again! My husband and I tried it once and loved it and brought the in laws to enjoy as well. The live music was incredible, the seating is SO comfortable and the food is just absolutely amazing. ♾️/10 I absolutely recommend this restaurant! (Pictured is the chili chicken, lamb chops and royal laghman with beef)
Such an incredible restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing. We felt really well taken care of the whole time. We tried Chuchura, Samsa, Piter Manta, Royal Laghman, and Lamb Kebab, and honestly, everything was so flavorful and well made. If you're going, definitely try the Chuchura. It’s a comforting soup with dumplings and was one of our favorites. The Laghman was also amazing: tender meat, plenty of veggies, and the mushrooms gave it such a nice texture. The service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and attentive, which really made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The desserts really hit the spot. If you like honey cake, chocolate honey cake Spartak, or Napoleon, you’ve got to try them. They were all just the right amount of sweet. We loved every single one. Highly recommend this restaurant!
One of my fave restaurants in DC! Beautifully decorated, always immaculate, and the food is delicious. I often come for dinner with friends after services or a concert across the street, and today I hung out with my laptop sipping on a pot of Dolan Chai.
We planned our dinner before we even arrived in DC. We planned a trip to the National Zoo followed by a relaxing dinner at Dolan Uyghur Restaurant right down the street. The staff was very welcoming. We were seated immediately. I love the QR scan for the menu, because I’d rather look at the menu on my phone than on a cumbersome menu touched by so many others. We didn’t get photos of all of our appetizers because we just dug in as everything smelled so delicious. The beverage selection was wonderful, I often feel halal restaurants just do the basic sodas a tea. We had a Mojito and a Peach Bellini, delicious and refreshing. (Non alcoholic of course) The food was fresh, service was perfectly timed, and everything was delicious. After a long day, it was great to step outside of the restaurant and enter the Cleveland Park Station! Perfect location! I always love when my daughter plans our trips because we get to see the best sites and the best restaurants.
The vibe here is dope and the staff are really nice . I ordered white rice with hand-pulled noodles and the chicken kebab—everything was delicious, especially the chicken 😋😍. I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a good spot with great food!
This is a cute Chinese restaurant right next to the metro. Sitting arrangements are cute so nice for dates or girls' brunch. Menu had a lot to offer. Tried their chicken fried rice and beef korma chop, both mild. May be will go little bit more spicier next time. Fried rice was stickier than regular ones but tasted good with chili oil. Korma chop is a must try! Chewy noodles with stir fried beef, garlicky, with lots of spring onions and sesame seeds. Very flavorful. Will be ordering it again and can't wait to try more of the items from their menu. HALAL! Yogurt drinks are nice too.
Amazing experience, true authentic food. The people here truly care about customer experience. A lot of places in DC don’t stick to true authentic roots, this place on the other hand does. Highly reccomend if you like trying new foods!
A Hidden Gem for Uyghur Cuisine If you’re looking for authentic and delicious Uyghur food, this place is a true hidden gem. Everything we ordered was flavorful and perfectly prepared. Our server, Belge, made the experience even better — she was incredibly kind, attentive, and thoughtful throughout our meal. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in Washington!
Wow, great food, fantastic service, super fantastic manners, caring. You really feel genuine human interaction and caring when you ask for information and help. I just asked if I could park in front, the gentleman went extra miles to help me find a suitable spot. You guys are angels. Thank you, and God bless!
I'm really glad we tried it out! Our meal was so warming and filling. There was plenty spice and attention to detail. And lots of leftovers lol First thing I wanted to try was Chuchura, a soup with small dumplings. It was herby and had a nice peppery taste, and the dumplings were really good! We also got Mongolian Beef and the Dolan Laghman. The beef was thin and tender, the sauce flavorful. I loved the noodles, they were very warming and chewy and the sauce was spicy and bright! There were a lot of other dishes I'd have loved to try~
One of my favorite restaurants in DC! They introduced me to Uyghur cuisine, which I find wonderfully unique and exceptionally delicious! I’ve had the korma chop with lamb and mom’s laghman. The noodles are the best. There’s that (which they are well known for) and a good variety more on the menu! The vegetables and all other ingredients are fresh and well blended with great flavors that cater to my aversion to super hot spices. Moreover, the atmosphere is quaint and quiet, and the service is very friendly and efficient. I highly recommend you eat here! P.S. I love that it’s literally one step away from the Cleveland Park metro stop!
After my first dining experience at Dolan, I promised myself I would go back. I was only visiting D.C., and my friend wanted to try this restaurant. The problem, though, is that I am on a low-iodine diet and have too many restrictions. I can’t have iodized salt or sea salt, soy, dairy, or eggs, among others, and, like most restaurants, Dolan prepares and seasons components of their dishes beforehand, which leaves less flexibility for very specific accommodations like mine. Muhammad, the chef, was kind enough to cook some ribs that meet my dietary requirements, which he personally served with a vegetable side dish on the house. Servers Nico and Abdul were also very accommodating and thoughtful. (At one point, they had to bring back a cup of steamed rice to the kitchen before I started eating to confirm there was no salt, unprompted.) After my medical treatment for which this diet is required, I plan to go back to D.C. and head to Dolan to finally sample their dishes the way they’re meant to taste.
This was among the best meals that I've ever had! The flower tea was a nice flavor. We probably drank three pots of that! Next, we had the laghman noodles which had the perfect amount of spice (you can choose spicy or not, we did medium). The house made noodles were just amazing and the sauce was so flavorful. I didn't think anything could compare to the noodles, but then we had the goshnan. The crust was amazing and the filling was delicious. It's been two months since my husband and I ate here, and I'm still craving everything we had. Well done Dolan Uyghur Restaurant!! I can't wait to return.
Love the food and atmosphere. Despite the crowds, the service was top-notch. Nothing could have made it better.
Easily some of the best food I've ever had in my life. The Goshnan was perfectly flakey, the filling was so flavorful and juicy, we just couldn't stop eating! The lamb's seasoning was so flavorful, the meat was tender, and if you order a day ahead, you can even order a whole lamb! And during a hot summer heat wave, their cold noodles are refreshing and give just the right spicy kick to help breathe life back into your weary muscles! The flavors for everything we had were amazing, the prices are serving sizes are excellent. I recommend everyone try this place out, whether visiting DC or a local resident - especially if you'd like to show your support to a wonderful and beautiful culture! The music is so uplifting and relaxing, I could sit there all day long and just vibe and drink the teas! Speaking of which, the teas and yogurt drinks are also delicious and refreshing! We couldn't help ourselves and needed to buy a container of their blend of tea to make at home! And don't forget to have some dessert! The baklava (especially the chocolate) is so delicious!
Very good local restaurant in Cleveland Park. Nothing else like in the city. Definitely was surprised by the noodles and honey cake. Delicious!
This place is awesome! We loved the setup of the restaurant which is warm and welcoming. Our server was so kind and offered us the best recommendations - we loved talking with him! The food (and house chai) was delicious - we wanted to eat more so we’ll be back but we had the butter naan to start, piter manta (which was so flavorful), the royal Laghman (perfect level of spice and those noodles.. delicious!), and the korma chop (again - the house made noodles! Amazing.). We finished with the honey cake which had the best texture, perfect level of sweet (but not too sweet), and flavor and I’m pretty sure we’ll crave this for the rest of our life. Highly recommend this place!
What a charming, cozy spot for a delicious bite to eat. I love that it’s close to the metro. We were seated and greeted by the friendly staff. My friend and I had ourselves a lovely feast! The Shrimp Korma, Fried green beans, and the Rib Kebab were our faves. The tea was a great palate cleanser between bites. Would highly recommend this unique cuisine!
Our first time trying Uyghur food and our server Nico recommended so many great things! We went with the Royal Laghman and Korma Chop, both were amazing! Would definitely love to come back and try more things!
We had an amazing experience. The food was flavourful and well presented. Excellent staff, very attentive and accommodating to food sensitivities. Cozy atmosphere and happy to support an endangered culture and oppressed people. A remarkable heritage to share through food, highly recommend!
10000000/10! I never write reviews, so just know I’m going out of my way to give this restaurant their flowers. When anyone tells me they’re going to DC, this will be my first recommendation – IT IS A GEM! It’s such a quaint spot, and the staff was so lovely. We came here with my work colleagues and ordered basically half the menu – everything was delicious. I def recommend ordering a bunch of dishes to share and explore if you’re new to Uyghur cuisine. The honey cake and house tea were the perfect combo. I think that was the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life. I'm so excited to go back!!!
This place was fun! I am a big culture and food person and this was my first time having uyghur food (note I'm no authority on authenticity). The food was delicious. I've traveled the world and found the spices and combination very unique and extremely delicious. Our server Sena was fantastic and gave great recommendations. She was timely, friendly, personable, and on top of refills. Atmosphere was amazing. It was warm and quaint. Decore is great as well.
The service at the Dolan Uyghur restaurant is excellent! The manager Nurmemet and staff were attentive, ensuring everything was perfect without being overbearing. Their attention to detail made me feel like a VIP!
Where has Uyghur food been my whole life? Missing, that's where. The enormous "big plate chicken" which is secretly one of the best noodle dishes you'll ever have. The gigantic slice of Honey Cake was one of the best honey cakes I've ever had. And finally the decadent baklava was easily the best baklava I've ever had. Authentic Eurasian and Chinese flavors mix for a wholly different experience that's absolutely worth a visit.
Please come to Dolan and try the Korma Chop noodles (I had it with lamb). I also recommend the honey cake (not too sweet) and the chocolate baklava (the chocolate flavor is mild). Bilge was an excellent server: very attentive, polite, and accommodating. Don't forget the dolan tea!
Though it's not a fine dining experience due to the atmosphere, the food is absolutely spectacular. Our server was amazing. She was constantly asking if we needed anything and was very good at bringing a big variety of dishes! We love the small plate experience. We just told her we had no dietary restrictions and were willing to try anything and she just kept bringing them! We never had to wait for a drink refill either they were constantly there
this place is SO AMAZING! the serving staff was very attentive, it’s in a great convenient location right next to the metro, the restaurant is decorated so beautifully, and the food was jaw droppingly good. we made a reservation for three and shared plates, and our favorites were the chicken uyghur pilaf, the spring rolls, and the sour & spicy potatoes. definitely make sure to visit this spot!
I had a great experience at Dolan—everything was delicious! I really enjoyed my Small Big Plate Chicken and my lamb kebab. I had never tried lamb before, and it was amazing. I’m very grateful to the hostess because I accidentally made a reservation for Falls Church, thinking it was the Washington, D.C. location. When we arrived, we didn’t actually have a reservation, but she kindly helped us find a spot for our celebration. Thank you so much for your help and for making sure we had everything we needed.👍🏻👍🏻
I’m from Colombia, and as a true coffee taster I can say that the coffee at Dolan truly surprised me and made me feel at home again. I paired it with a delicious lentil soup and a mozzarella bread — the best combination for cold weather. Their food and the hospitality of their servers made me feel very comfortable! Thanks Diana for your recommendation!!
We had a change of plans yesterday and ended up arriving an hour earlier than our reservation. Even though the restaurant was overbooked, the host was super nice and managed to fit us in. We had really high expectations based on the reviews, and everything was delicious. The music and décor were amazing too — the whole place felt cozy and romantic. ✨
I had an amazing experience here today! The place was peaceful, the service was top-notch, and the food was absolutely delicious. I’m excited to bring my friends next time so they can enjoy these flavors too.
We had our girls night dinner there, I highly recommend it! The atmosphere was amazing and the service was fantastic! They gave us space and also took care of our needs! It was my first time going there and few of my friends been there multiple times and I can tell why. They have a lot of great options for sharing dishes which looked wonderful and tasted even better! Their dessert was very delicious and different from other places. Im not a tea person but i had tea there and it was so refreshing and their soups were so good and made you feel warm and happy! Very light and delicious.
I was in Washington, DC this week and stayed in Cleveland Park. I found this restaurant, and even though I had never tried Uyghur cuisine before, I can say that Dolan gave me a great experience that encouraged me to keep taking risks and trying these delicious dishes. On top of that, our waitress Diana was very courteous and helped us with Spanish–English translation, as well as explaining the dishes to us. Excellent service!
Dolan Uyghur Restaurant 3518 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008 My daughter has recently moved to the D.C. area and is determined to try as many different types of cuisines from the many cultures that call this area home. I was more than pleased to try Uyghur cuisine recently. Parking was found around the corner on the street. There is an upstairs and downstairs with cozy areas to sit and dine. Large glass windows in front offer a nice view of the activities of this eclectic neighborhood. Our first foray into Uyghur cuisine was a delight and introduced a delightfull mix of different flavors of well prepared foods. We started with a large French press style carafe filled with one of the most delicious teas I have had in a while. They have their own blend of Dolan Gul Chai which is a floral tea. It was so enjoyed by both of us that we both purchased the 100g canister of this tea to bring home. For appetizers we tried both the Samsa which had minced beef, lamb and onion and the Kawa .Samsa that was filled with butternut squash onions and peppers. They were delicious but sadly served as just piece. We also tried the Arlash Korma, Goshnan and saved room for a dessert of Uyghur. I would definitely like to come back and try more of their traditional styles of food.
We stopped in here based on the reviews. First off, the food was absolutely delicious. We didn’t didn’t order anything we didn’t enjoy. The lamb and chickens skewers were the best. The only place that fell short of me was the service. We had to wait quite awhile. For someone to take our order. When we wanted to order something additional I found myself looking and flagging down our waiter. Overall still good and price on par with the quality and portions. I would go back.
This is such a cute setting with a few tables dressed in white tablecloths. The service was outstanding too. Most of our meal was tasty with the exception of the lamb shank that was dry and overcooked. However, the waiter was quick to fix the issue by bringing slices of beef over rice. We feel that Dolan will fare better with a shorter menu. There is so much to choose from that it becomes overwhelming. We highly recommend the cucumber salad and noodle dishes.
First and foremost, I will definitely come back here to try more dishes. I also found the price to be affordable since nearby restaurants tend to be overpriced. I ordered the fried calamari and beef korma chop during my stay. I was really wowed by the fried calamari—the spices and the breading were perfection. It was probably the best fried calamari I’ve had ever. For the beef korma chop, I thought it was good. Did it wow me? No. Overall, I rate this overall visit a solid 9 out of 10.
We recently dined at Dolan, a wonderful Uyghur restaurant in Washington, DC, and the experience was truly memorable. From the moment we walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for the evening. Farrah, our server, was nothing short of exceptional. Her incredible service elevated the whole experience! The menu offered a wide selection of authentic Uyghur dishes, and it was hard to choose from all the amazing options. The Karma chop, Chuchura and their buttered naan were exceptional. I personally loved the chicken burger which is their must have. Each dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. Whether you’re new to Uyghur cuisine or a seasoned fan, Dolan has something for everyone. If you’re looking for a unique dining experience with fantastic service and delicious food, Dolan is the place to be. Highly recommend!
I go to Dolan for coffee and it is a very pleasant experience to sip a latte or a matcha latte late morning. It is a place where one can chat with a friend, given the benches laid with pillows close to the windows, but I saw people with PCs sitting at tables. We finally went for the soup on a cold winter day. It was delicious. The spiciness level can be adjusted and for me it was perfect. I got a seafood soup in a beef broth. We tried deserts, sutlac and kazan dibi- they were ok. The service was prompt. There was a gentleman who finished his dinner and was waiting for his to go order who appreciated the aroma of our dishes and also had compliments for other guests' lamb dish. Quiet and intimate atmosphere downstairs, with more place upstairs.
beef korma chop was so delicious, and the meat was cooked perfectly. my only note is that for an entree that’s ~$23 I definitely expected it to have more meat whereas ours had only a few pieces. definitely still would return because it’s delicious and the staff is really nice.
Bad service, decent food. I don't want to conflate Chinese with Uyghyr but the service here is what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant - pretty bad. We had a reservation for 2 at 6pm on a Saturday. We got seated upstairs in a corner and was forgotten for about 30 min. We finally ordered and the food came another 30 min later, so an hour after we got seated. We ordered: 1) Fried eggplant (10/10) which was pretty amazing and cooked perfectly. 2) Signature rice noodle with beef (8/10) which tasted good, but the rice noodles were slightly overcooked and broke apart too easily making it annoying to eat. 3) Dry pot (6/10) which was a touch too salty - we prefer the Chinese style dry-pot more. Our water cups were not refilled in a timely manner which is unfortunate because the dry pot was kinda spicy in addition to being too salty. The worst part of the dinner for me was the fact that this rude family was standint and loitering (it's not that spacious upstairs) for at least 30 minutes. Since we were in the corner, I could literally feel their body heat as they hovered inches away from me. After about 30 minutes, someone finally asked them to leave. Overall an unpleasant experience.
The menu items are hit or miss. The cold egg noodles — not a fan. The Uyghur pilaf, however, was delicious. The tandoori naan was alright but it was served with honey which did not pair well with it.
No recommend. The chicken was very tender, but neither the chicken nor the potatoes were flavorful. The sauce or soup is not hot ,it is warm. The beef was very tough.
Given the price-per-dish, some of the worst asian food I've had in the DMV area. Bad: - The cold skin noodles were dry and the sauce was unpalatable and without any flavor. - The Chili chicken was lazy and flavorless, just a breast of steamed chicken tossed in some sauce and chilis - The Big Plate Chicken lacked flavor and was severely overpriced for what it was. Good: - The fresh noodles were springy and nice - The eggplant dish was good - The dumplings were nice Maybe I ordered wrong, but when you're charging $60 for a plate of stewed chicken legs, it needs to actually taste like something other than a generic brown stew.
