Founding Farmers is a top-tier recommendation for a reason! It was my first lunch in DC, and the experience was fantastic. Must-Order: The Brie Apple Farm Bread (shared by three of us) is a sweet and savory masterpiece with a perfect crunch. Our Mains: You can't go wrong with Bucky’s Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich, Meatloaf, or the Southern Fried Chicken & Waffles. Pro Tip: Check out their incredibly detailed menu book and stop by the gift shop before you leave! Drink: The Strawberry Margarita is zesty, fresh, and packs a punch. Excellent service and empty plates all around. A Foggy Bottom essential!

Had a lovely meal here with great food and service. Brie Apple Farm Bread with Onion Preserves (9/10) A solid appetizer to start the meal. The sweet onion preserve paired beautifully with the brie and Granny Smith apple. The bread was light and fluffy with a crunchy crust, and the overall balance of flavors was excellent. Butternut Squash & Mascarpone Ravioli (8/10) On the sweeter side, but the salty brown butter sage sauce balanced it out really well. The ravioli was cooked perfectly and generously stuffed, making it a very satisfying main. Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream (8.5/10) Really enjoyed this dessert. Great crust-to-filling ratio, with sweet apples balanced by a hint of tartness. The ice cream was rich and creamy and paired perfectly. My only feedback is that I wish the pie had been served a little warmer. Overall, a great spot with a wide variety of options and amazing service. Would definitely return.

Such a fantastic farm-to-table experience that we ended up going back twice during our trip to DC! Every single dish we tried was delicious. We started with the tomato soup, deviled eggs, and the fig jam prosciutto bread — all incredible and full of flavor. For our entrées, we had the meatloaf, chicken pot pie, and my personal favorite, the mushroom and sausage gnocchi. Each dish was comforting, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. They also make their own homemade chocolate, which they sell in boxed sets to take home — of course we couldn’t resist bringing some with us. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for a memorable, fresh, and flavorful meal in DC!

Excellent food and service. I had the shrimp and crab risotto and my partner had the New York strip. Anna was our server, and she was so attentive, energetic, and courteous throughout. She gave great recommendations and was very knowledgeable about the menu! The food came out quickly, Anna made sure we had everything we needed—overall exceptional food and service. I highly recommend both of the dishes we got!

Right, let's get one thing straight: finding a decent meal in Foggy Bottom in the middle of the afternoon can be a total minefield. But I stepped into Founding Farmers, and I have to say, there’s some real talent in that kitchen. First off, let’s talk about Evalese. Absolute professional. Her service was sharp, her recommendations were on the money, and she ran that floor like a pro. In a world of lazy service, she’s a breath of fresh air. The Food: We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes. Stunning. They’re served with a green goddess sauce and a house-made goat cheese sauce that is—quite frankly—delightful. The crunch, the acidity, the creaminess? Beautiful. Then came the Cornbread. Look, it’s not going to win a Michelin star. It’s not the best I’ve ever had, but it’s certainly not the worst. It’s well above mediocre—solid, reliable, but could use a bit more "wow." For the mains, we went for the Steak and Chicken Enchiladas and the Ribeye. And let me tell you, they were cooked to perfection. Pink, juicy, seasoned properly—no excuses, just great cooking. The Catch: However, there is a massive "but." The dining room was freezing. I’m sitting there, the customers are shivering, even the servers look like they’re trekking through the Arctic. It’s uncomfortable! You’ve got brilliant food coming out of the kitchen, but you’re serving it in a walk-in fridge. Turn the heat up! You’re a restaurant, not an ice rink! The Verdict: If you can ignore the frostbite, it’s a 9.5 out of 10. The food is top-tier and the service is world-class. Just for heaven's sake, bring a parka.

Jose was THE BEST server ever. He was so attentive and always anticipated my questions. So good I tipped him 25%. We had the beignets so light and delicious. MUST GET. The brioche French toast also was a hit and reminded me of HK french toast. I also had the steak and eggs and my wife had the goat cheese Benedict. Everything was just so delicious and fresh. The atmosphere also was so lively but not too loud either. No wonder why it's one of, if not, the best brunch place in DC.

We were seated within 1 minute of arriving. Waiter was super nice and quick. The food was excellent. I had chicken and waffles. It appeared to all be hand made. The chicken was delicious and the gravy was awesome too. The syrup they used was also delicious. My girlfriend had the yogurt and berries and she said they were really great. Might come back again before we leave.

Whether for brunch, lunch, or dinner, menu items consistently deliver in both quality and portion size. Customer service has also been excellent. Staff are attentive, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. Even during busy hours, the team maintains professionalism and efficiency. The atmosphere is lively and inviting, making it a dependable option for both casual outings and special occasions. Overall, Founding Farmers continues to provide a reliable dining experience with strong execution in both food and service.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Founding Farmers DC Thanks. Emerson M for taking care of us today. I am really appreciated 👍👍 I had a great dining experience at Founding Farmers DC. The restaurant is well known for its farm-to-table concept, and you can really taste the quality and freshness of the ingredients. I ordered the Uncle Buck’s Beignet French Toast and the Eggs Benedict with Crab Cake, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The French toast was rich, fluffy, and perfectly sweet, while the crab cake Benedict was generous in portion and full of real crab meat. The poached eggs and hollandaise sauce were done just right. The atmosphere was warm and lively, making it a great spot for brunch or a relaxed meal. Service was friendly, attentive, and efficient throughout our visit. Overall, this is a fantastic place to eat in Washington, D.C., and I would definitely come back again.

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Founding Farmers, and the experience was elevated even further by our incredible server, Ricardo. From the moment we were seated, Ricardo was warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making sure our evening was perfect. His menu knowledge was excellent, his recommendations were spot-on, and his timing was flawless without ever feeling intrusive. The food was delicious but it was Ricardo’s professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail that truly stood out and made the night memorable. Exceptional service like this is what keeps us coming back to all of your locations in the DMV.. Please recognize Ricardo for a job very well done. He is a true asset to your team!

This was a very pleasurable experience. I have been meaning to try this food for quite some time and my was it worth the wait. The environment was engaging. Our server Emerson was exemplary. The food was outstanding and very fresh. Drinks were phenomenal. Mimosas were exceptional and the freshness and flavor of food was like my taste buds was doing a ballet dance. I will definitely be back. Might make it a bday trip there. Keep up the great work. See you soon!!

Friendly, fast & Knowledgeable server Adrian! Amazing food! Great atmosphere! Beautiful Facility! Wide selection of food, Can't go wrong with choosing this restaurant! We had the Goat Cheese Burger and Sirloin Chili Stew, both were delicious, hot and filling. The chili was close to being the best I ever had, hearty chunks of meat and great flavoring! Desert was Butterscotch Bread Pudding which had a amazing flavor and wasnt too soggy. BONUS...they actually make their own chocolate candies in house and you can buy some fresh. All kinds of flavors that are great for chocolatetiers!

Food was good. Onion Rings were amazing and so was the carrot cake. The meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans were ok, but nothing to brag about. The meatloaf was really plain and didnt have any of the typical sauce / glaze on it. The sauce on it was the white gravy from the mashed potatoes and not what I expected. The carrot cake is always amazing and not my first time trying it.

Absolutely outstanding farm-to-table experience! The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the service was great. The menu has a huge selection. Truly something for everyone. Everything we tried was delicious. Great drinks, and amazing desserts. Wish I had taken pictures of all the meals, but I did manage to snap one of the brie apple farm bread, so good. We’ll definitely be back!

Outstanding service from Jorge! I had an amazing experience at Founding Farmers thanks to Jorge. He was incredibly attentive, friendly, and professional from start to finish. His recommendations were spot-on, and he made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. It’s rare to find someone who elevates the entire dining experience the way he did. Highly recommend asking for Jorge when you visit Founding Farmers — he truly made our night!

I can not say enough good about this place and it's breakfast!! First we ordered coffee and a plate of the beignets. The beignets were absolute HEAVEN! A plate of six comes with three sauces, chocolate, raspberry and caramel. All delicious! My husband and I both ordered the breakfast tacos for our main dish. It came with a side of hash Browns. Everything was amazing! The tacos were VERY tasty! Our friends we're visiting from Chicago. They ordered eggs/ omelet with bacon, hash browns and sides of pancakes/ french toast. I tried a bite of my buddy's french toast because it looked so delicious I couldnt resist! I don't Even like French toast and I have to say that it was amazing as well. Besides the food being great and plentiful, which is something I always think about when picking a place to eat. I don't like leaving hungry after I just paid for a meal. I also don't go out very often to places like this so I always appreciate that it was even more than I could eat. I brought one of my tacos home!! The prices are very reasonable! Especially for the area. That was also one of the reasons I chose this location to bring my friends. It has great reviews and the pictures that I saw of the food looked amazing. It did not disappoint. My friends even said that I picked phenomenally in choosing Founding Farmer's!! It is 100% a restaurant you should visit while in for breakfast especially! We do plan to go back for lunch or dinner to check that out too! Our server was amazing as well and the atmosphere is nice. They have outdoor and indoor sting as well as a bar!! We chose to sit outside as it was a decent day! All and all if I could give them ten stars I would!!!!

Every staff member we encountered was pleasant and professional. The host was welcoming and our server was extremely attentive. The food was very fresh. The macaroni and cheese is the best I’ve ever tasted. The coconut cream pie made an excellent dessert. I’m sure I will be back again in the near future.

Great food and atmosphere on my first visit while In DC. Evalese, attended our table and she was very patient since it was our first time dining In, explaining a few questions we had on the menu. Overall homerun, delicious servings and for dessert beignets!

Cool place to eat! Outdoor seating with heaters! Hand made chocolates are yummy! Food is great! A fancier restaurant with higher prices! Garlic knots with cheese and marina dips are great! Skillet cornbread with honey butter was good! Crab cakes and salmon were delicious!

My ride-or-die restaurant when I’m in DC. Fresh ingredients and plenty of options to please every palate — salads, sandwiches, fish and meat plates, pastas, and more. My risotto was good, but I expected a bit more flavor considering all the ingredients. Next time, I’ll try the scallops. The French fries are some of the best you’ll ever taste, and their natural sodas are super refreshing — I had the hibiscus one. Better make a reservation in advance, it’s always packed. Food is great and fresh. I got the cheeseburger and fried okra. My husband got the chicken fried steak meal with gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans and a waffle. No complaints. All very good. Andy was our waitress on both occasions and she was great. Ambience is very nice and bright. I would definitely recommend.

Came in for lunch with no reservation and they seated us right away. The staff were really friendly! They had a wide variety on the menu so we started with the fig and prosciutto appetizer. It was excellent! I had the goat cheese ravioli with chicken cutlets, the goat cheese was creamy and blend of flavors was excellent. I highly recommend!

Breakfast was great. Food came instantly. Service was Fantastic. Waiter name was Edgar. One of the best waiters I ever had. Like food and service so much I'm going back for dinner, before we head back to Nyc in the morning.

Fantastic farm to table restaurant serving comforting American fare and craft drinks. Make sure you have an appetite as they aren’t shy with the portions. My motto for a good sandwich is that the bread is the vehicle for the most important part, the filling. This turkey BLT was packed with filling just how I like it! We ate this as a late lunch at 3pm and didn’t need dinner in the evening 😅 Looking forward to returning

First time in Washington, so went to Founding Farmers due to the Trip Advisor rating. The ambience was fantastic, relaxed with great music. Hands down the best steak and eggs I have ever tasted, perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Service was friendly and welcoming. Genuinely cannot recommend highly enough.

The food is PHENOMENAL each time i come here, despite the time in between each visit. this restaurant stays insanely consistent with quality and service. the waitress was so lovely despite how busy it was and our food came after a short wait as well. my fiance is a steak fiend and said their ribeye is one of the bests he’s ever had.I come back each time i’m in DC and i suggest you do too.

Founding Farmers never disappoints and tonight Byron knocked it out of the park. We were a group of 14 and he took amazing care of us. Food was quick but not so quick that he felt like he wanted to get rid of us. He was attentive, friendly and helpful. The food and drinks were fabulous.

This unforgettable meal took place at Founding Farmers, a restaurant well-known in Washington, D.C. for its hearty American dishes and farm-to-table concept. I actually decided to come here because Adam recommended it to me—and I am so glad I followed his advice. The experience was wonderful from the very start. The creamy pasta topped with a golden crab cake was rich, flavorful, and comforting. The cedar-plank salmon, paired with mashed potatoes, green beans, and charred lemon, was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. A cast-iron skillet of mussels in fragrant white wine broth, served with grilled bread, gave us that rustic seaside charm. To keep things balanced, a crisp salad with chicken and fresh vegetables added a refreshing touch to the table. As we sat together, the food became more than just a meal—it was a way to share joy, stories, and laughter. Every dish felt like it was made to be enjoyed slowly, in good company. From the elders reminiscing about the past to the younger ones chatting cheerfully, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and love. Thanks to Adam’s thoughtful recommendation, we discovered not only a place with incredible food but also a place where memories are made. It was a dining experience that brought everyone closer, turning simple dishes into lasting moments we’ll treasure for a long time.

This place was packed and I found out why...the food DELICIOUS and the service great. The restaurant is 2 stories and simply beautiful. Our server Ty was amazing, very attentive and great customer service 👏🏾. We had the opportunity to meet the manager Lorena she took care of us. If you're visiting the DC area you will be doing yourself a disservice by not trying this restaurant.

We visited this restaurant for dinner on a Friday night and liked it so much that we came back again on Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere was great, and every dish we ordered was excellent — full of flavor and perfectly prepared. The service was good, and although the prices are a bit on the higher side, the quality of the food and the overall experience made it totally worth it.

OMG every bite was absolutely delicious! My Straw & Hay pasta was perfect. I always get nervous with meals that have bacon because it makes it too salty but that was not the case with this dish. My husband loved his chicken noodle soup. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. I’m so glad someone recommended this restaurant to us. We really enjoyed our meals!

A downtown restaurant, very close to the White House. The place is large, spread over two floors, and well designed inside, featuring a piano bar and a central counter. The staff is quick, friendly, and efficient in answering any questions about the dishes. The food is excellent, and the prices are in line with what is offered. Both the sandwich and the meat platter were outstanding. And if you want to finish on a high note, the cream-filled profiteroles are simply fabulous. Six big, delicious ones—I ate them all. A small note: I would suggest adding a cutlery rest, and also serving more Brie in the Brie-and-apple appetizer—it was almost invisible. Highly recommended!

Founding Fathers DC is a bright spot in the center of DC, which serves food completely made from scratch and is partnered with the North Dakota Farmers Union. Our server Meara provided plenty of recommendations and was very friendly to us. Whether you are a tourist or a local, treat yourself to a good breakfast / lunch / dinner by going to a restaurant with great food, atmosphere, and staff.

Stopped by on a rainy day after going to the Renwick. Hostess was warm and welcoming. Ambience was on point. Jose was not only a professional, competent server, he was charming and personable. And then the food was delicious? Wow they’re really doing it all.

I really enjoyed eating here. It’s a very busy restaurant, so service can be a bit slower at times, but the staff is always friendly and welcoming. They were also very accommodating when it came to allergies and dietary needs, which I really appreciated. Everything we had tasted great. My only recommendation would be to add a few dairy-free options. Many of the sauces contain dairy, and even the buns are potato buns made with butter, so it was a bit limiting since I can’t have dairy. Having at least one dairy-free sauce option and a dairy-free bun would be a huge plus for guests with similar restrictions. I also think letting the staff know that the buns and sauce have dairy would be super important, as the first time I ate here over the weekend they told me the cheese was the only dairy item in my falafel burger, but it was actually the bun and sauce too - which I only found out because someone who eats there regularly and was sitting next to me told me before I ate it (thank goodness!) and the chef in the back confirmed. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely return.

Mostly delicious. We had a large business meeting here with over 30 people. The restraint is large and accommodated this group easily. The menu is very diverse: from sushi to French grilled to vegetarian to delicious baked breads. The Georgetown location is right by the Iceskating rink. Very nice experience!

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Founding Farmers is a great spot for a hearty lunch in the heart of DC! The portions here are huge, so you definitely won't leave hungry. Lunch Highlights: Fried Chicken & Waffle: This was the standout of the meal. The waffle was perfectly crunchy, and the chicken was incredibly tender on the inside. A classic comfort dish done right! The Burger: Really delicious and well-prepared. It’s a solid choice if you're looking for a dependable, high-quality burger. The Sides: The fries were fine, and while the Mac & Cheese was decent, it felt a bit average compared to how good the main dishes were. Service: The service was great—attentive and friendly throughout our visit, which made the experience even better. Summary: If you're looking for delicious American comfort food with generous portions and a warm, rustic vibe, this is a fantastic choice near the White House. Just make sure to bring your appetite!

My friends and I visited from Houston. Our server was Evalese and she was outstanding. She was attentive, personable, and went above and beyond with recommendations for enjoyment during our stay. The only reason for the 4 stars was we were sat at our table for almost 20 minutes before we were created to even get water. Once we did, get our server, it was smooth sailing. The food was great! We had pancakes, eggs, crab cake Benedict’s and hash browns.

Went to Founding Farmers for a pre-Kennedy center Messiah sing along early dinner. Promptly seated in the bar area. The bartender (my waiter, sorry dude I forgot your name and didn't get a receipt) was awesome. Not pushy, not over the top, just the right amount of customer service. As it was happy hour, I ordered the deviled eggs and the fried green tomatoes for appetizers. The deviled eggs were just "meh" nothing special. The fried green tomatoes were awesome. Came with a guacamole-type relish (accoutrement?) and an herbed cream cheese relish (I think it was cream cheese anyway). Both were on point. I had asked the bartender about a couple items I was looking at for dinner, and he was pretty forthcoming about what he thought would be good....I ordered the blackened blue catfish and it absolutely did not disappoint. Be forewarned if you don't like spicy don't order this, the blackening season is fire *but also excellent* Only issue I had with the catfish: the cheesy grits seemed different (I want to say "off" but it's not like they were bad, there was just something about them that didn't seem right...I can't put my finger on it though). For an early Tuesday afternoon (4-ish) this place was pretty busy. Ambiance was cool, but sitting close to the front door kept it fairly drafty (sure I could have kept my coat on but who eats with their coat on?) all in all a great meal. I'd definitely go back!

I recently dined at Founding Farmers DC and had a mixed experience. The restaurant's modern farm-to-table concept and rustic-chic decor make it a visually appealing spot. The atmosphere is lively and inviting, with a bustling bar area and outdoor seating. The food at Founding Farmers was delicious, with a menu that showcases seasonal ingredients and creative twists on classic dishes. We ordered a few different items, and each one was well-prepared and flavorful. However, the prices are quite high, which may be a deterrent for some diners. The service was inconsistent, with our server being friendly but sometimes inattentive. While the staff seemed overwhelmed at times, they were apologetic and made an effort to rectify the issues. If you're interested in dining at Founding Farmers, I would highly recommend making a reservation in advance. The restaurant is popular, and tables can fill up quickly, especially on weekends. With a reservation, you can ensure that you'll be able to experience the restaurant's creative cuisine and charming atmosphere. Overall, Founding Farmers DC is a great spot for a special occasion or night out, with its creative cuisine and charming atmosphere making it a memorable experience. Just be aware of the prices and potential service inconsistencies, and plan accordingly.

Came by myself for dinner and decided to check it out based on the amount of highly rated reviews. My waiter, Jorge, was very personable and sat down to tell me about the restaurant and menu. He gave me a number of great recommendations. I decided to go with the spicy fried chicken dinner. The food came out fast. I didn’t find the chicken to be spicy, it only had cayenne pepper in the seasoning. I also felt like the chicken was dry. The mashed potatoes and the greens were good, and the greens had a slight sweetness to them. I also found the biscuit to be dry. Overall the service was 10/10, and the food was a 6/10.

Customer service was top notch! Thanks Curtis❤️. Food portion sizes were enormous! The only item we didn’t like was the 7 cheese Mac and Cheese. It wasn’t seasoned nor did it taste like it had any cheese on it. All of the other food was amazing I will be returning.

Good food; great service; and good atmosphere. My server, Edgar, was outstanding. He was friendly and kind, and he made great recommendations to my daughter and me. The food was, generally, good. Our appetizer was a fig, mascarpone, and prosciutto over crostini, and it tasted like something I would be proud of if I made it at home. Or entrees were the catfish, which was fine, and a blue cheese bacon burger (which must have been very good because my daughter devoured it before I could have a taste). The highlights were a hibiscus soda - recommended to us by Edgar - and an affogato. (The affogato was a generous portion of homemade vanilla ice cream with a double espresso and a generous serving of Amaro. It’s probably the second or third best I’ve had at any restaurant, and I recommend it very highly.) We also had a small box of dark chocolate truffles with our dessert, which was delightful. Atmosphere was fine. The restaurant was busy, well-lot, and clean. I expected something a little “cozier” for a farm-to-table restaurant, but it was still enjoyable, with lota of great people watching.

Went in for breakfast on a weekday, more staff than customers. Was waiting for a waiter/waitress to come talk to me for so long I thought you might have to order at the bar. The photo attached encompasses $24 dollars worth of food. After tip you’re over $30 for coffee, 2 eggs, some lightly salted tomato slices, and “fresh sourdough” that’s basically just thick grocery store wheat bread. Coffee tasted great and the restaurant is a pleasant space, but overall disappointed.

L

Sadly, I should have listened better to the other reviews. We were sat immediately, and that's where it went downhill. It took about 10 minutes for a waiter to approach with dirty water glasses and water that tasted like it was straight out the faucet. We ordered 2 appetizers and a drink from the bar, that arrived quickly. Then we asked for 2 sweet teas, then the waiter went MIA for about 15-20 minutes or so... to the point where another waiter noticed we were just sitting there and asked if someone had waited on us. We told them our waiter took our additional drink order and never came back to get our dinner order... The waiter left to go find our waiter, but then the manager came and said our waiter was with a big party and offered to take our order, but after now waiting 20-25 minutes for sweet tea, we just wanted to leave. The manager never apologized, seemed annoyed, and just went to get our ticket. That is when our waiter returned, no apology either, only a sarcastic comment about ordering another drink to go. I just paid for the appetizer and drink, and left. We never got to eat dinner, which was sad because this restaurant was on my list and it greatly disappointed. The place was not busy, other tables around us with different waiters had ordered dinner and were eating. Poor service and sadly we will not be back to this location.

Extremely Disappointed – Quality Has Seriously Declined I’m genuinely disappointed with how far this place has fallen. It used to be one of the best spots around for both vegan and regular food — great quality, great service. Sadly, that’s no longer the case. On my most recent visit, the food was borderline inedible. The French fries were completely burned, yet somehow also soggy and greasy — as if they'd been preheated in old oil and left out too long. The veggie burger was downright disgusting. The tomato tasted off, almost spoiled, and the overall flavor was just bad. Nothing felt fresh or properly cooked. This isn't an isolated incident, either. It’s the second time in a row I’ve had serious issues with the food here, and it’s clear the quality has dropped dramatically. Whatever has changed — whether it’s the kitchen staff, suppliers, or management — it’s for the worse. Really hope they turn things around, but for now, I won’t be coming back.
