All the pastas and gnocchis were made fresh by them so maybe that’s why all turned out perfectly al dente. Kudos to their griller machine also as the steak (though not the most tender) and scallops gave off the most wonderful seared essence. High umami on all their dishes making our meal most satisfying.

Wonderful food and service. The restaurant is in this quaint and cozy 2 room venue. The service was great; our waitress was very attentive. In terms of the food, everything exceeded expectations. The tomatoes in the burrata were a bit out of season (as seen in the photo) but they were still delicious. Overall, no complaints!

The food was excellent and very delicious. The surrounding area was great and a much enjoyable experience while eating here. This is one of my favorite restaurants that I have been to. If you haven’t been here yet and love Italian food, you should go to this restaurant!

Lovely little spot. Incredible tiramisu and great salmon, risotto and mussels! Cleaned our plates fast.

I am giving 5 stars but I really mean 4.5. The food, I had a magret, was good but not excellent. The magret was sliced and grilled on the sides which wasn't such a good idea. But the cooking was still acceptable and the sauce and vegetables were tasty. The potato was undercooked to be honest. There is a small but good selection of Italian wines, the Chianti Classico was very good. There's bread and olive oil as teaser. And the service was friendly.

Highly underrated Italian Restaurant. The ambiance could seem a little dull when you first walk in, but the dining room and the paintings will change your mind. The host was very welcoming and friendly, she offered to take our pictures and made a very good impression. The service was excellent, our server recommended the daily specials and he gave us plenty of time to decide on what to get. The food was superb, every dish looked beautiful and tested even better, the Lobster ravioli was the highlight! Overall had a great experience will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

We had a nice meal at this cozy neighborhood restaurant. We started with delicious bread with fresh olive oil and balsamic vinegar ( complimentary), followed by appetizers ( scallops were delicious) and a salad ( pretty good). For the main dish, we enjoyed the lamb shank ( nice wine reduction) and the seafood pasta with a variety of shellfish. A lovely dessert of peach panna cotta ( chef’s compliment) was a perfect finish for the delicious Italian meal. Highly recommend this restaurant for a casual meal or a special event.

This Italian restaurant was a fortunate find yesterday. We were looking for somewhere for lunch….. we had the beef carpaccio and fried calamari as starters. Everything was well seasoned. We shared the lunch special spinach risotto with shrimp. The rice was perfectly al dente and the shrimp were so crisp! Dessert was tiramisu and fruit panacotta. I have nothing to complain about. Service was prompt and attentive as well.

I'm almost glad we found this restaurant at the end of our trip to DC because otherwise I would not have given any other restaurant a chance. EVERYTHING we had was amazing! We started with the roasted beets and the scallops. Then we had the pappardelle pasta with chicken and mushrooms in a cream sauce, the crab ravioli and the NY strip. All of it was so, so good. Then we finished with tiramisu (wow) and chocolate cake. We tried to talk our daughter into something different than chocolate cake (like chocolate salami) but it was still really good too. I highly recommend eating here!

The service here is impeccable and professional. It is a very SMALL restaurant so make sure you make a reservation! I did it with my google account via google maps - it was so easy! Didn’t have to create a new account or anything. Anyways.. the wine selection is fabulous. The specials are unique and delicious. We skipped dessert due to a night biking tour with DC Insiders Tour. Such a great night! Photos as of April 2019.

It’s was the best food we ate in our entire trip to DC, the homemade pasta was espetacular and the service amazing. Josue the manager made as so comfortable also he gave absolutely incredible suggestions. Very fair price as well, i super recommend this restaurant to all Italian food lovers.

Amazing.....Amazing....Amazing. This place is a gem. They were very accommodating to my family of five. Service was amazing and food was delicious. For appetizers we tried mushroom soup and grilled octopus. Perfect flavor and temperature. For dinner we tried a variety of pastas and a Salmon dish. Again delicious and food temperature was perfect. Did not have to wait very long for food to come to the table. By far one of the best Italian restaurants I have been to.

Located a little outside busy tourist routes, that Italian restaurant close to the upscale Logan Circle is worth visiting. Delicious in taste and aesthetically well-composed and presented, the entrèes left me in utter delight. I liked the tender grilled salmon fillet and pappardelle with deliciously cooked mushrooms the most. Solid dessert menu, very good coffee, and excellent service complete the picture of that capital gourmet spot.

Took my kids to the Tidal Basin, and we decided to make it very special by having late lunch at this cute restaurant. The food is tasty, the service is great [our waiter Josean was amazing!] and thw charm of a cozy restaurant was thw cherry on top!

From the moment I walked in, I was enveloped in the enticing aroma of fresh herbs and spices emanating from the kitchen. It felt as though I were an honored guest at Nonna's for a traditional Sunday dinner. We were warmly greeted with smiles and promptly seated in the cozy dining area tucked away in the lower level of a neighborhood row house. The intimate and inviting ambiance set the perfect tone for a romantic evening or a first date. Shortly after being seated, our friendly server approached us and introduced himself, though his name escapes me now. We placed our drink orders and perused the menu while indulging in a basket of freshly baked bread accompanied by a fragrant olive oil for dipping. As our drinks arrived, the server enthusiastically informed us of the night's specials, providing us with insightful recommendations. For starters, I opted for the grilled calamari, served with a unique chickpea mash and a delightful sauce that boasted a mild, spicy, sweet, and tangy flavor resembling a scotch bonnet pepper puree. The blend of flavors was intriguing and thoroughly enjoyable. Following this appetizing dish, my crab ravioli was presented, and I was overjoyed by its exceptional taste and quality. I am already looking forward to returning for another serving. Meanwhile, my dining companion savored a delectable steak accompanied by perfectly cooked potatoes and sautéed spinach. I couldn't resist sampling their dish and found each component to be equally delicious and satisfying. The attention to detail in every aspect of the dining experience truly impressed me and earned an A+ in my book. It was my first visit, but it certainly won't be my last.

Our waiter, norvin, provided such a welcoming and comfortable experience. Our lunch was wonderful, and the price was great too. Overall a very positive and relaxing afternoon.

WOW. This place is incredible. From the drinks to the food to the delicious deserts it is unmatched. Ingris took care of us tonight and she was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and gave great food reccomendations. I highly reccomend you check this place out. We had the linguini seafood pasta, crab ravioli and the proscutto chocolate desert (I think that's what it's called). For drinks we had summer margarita (pineapple and cranberry marg). 10/10!

Great Italian restaurant that's close to the convention center. The appetizers were really good. The risotto was amazing. And the gelato dessert at the end was a nice way to finish off the meal. The staff was really friendly and on point with the service. Overall fantastic experience.

Outstanding Service . All of friends in Washington DC recommend this restaurant but you have to reserve because is very popular . The hostess is very organize and I had a birthday day Italian dinner in Tortino . The service , food, and champagne make my birthday the best . We reserve a 8 people table and all the personal were very organize. I like the bread with butter too! Recommend for parties , dates and profesional dinners . Highly recommend.

A hidden gem that deserves to be experienced by everyone. This Italian restaurant may be small in size, however the food is amazing. Some local DC friends picked this restaurant to meet us out for dinner tonight, and we are so glad they did. We started out with the Beef Carpaccio, Buffalo mozzarella, arugula, pesto, and spicy micro-greens appetizer. It is a light weight appetizer that packs a punch of flavor. For the main course my wife had the Saffron Taglierini with scallops. She says it was as delicious as it sounds. I ordered the Lamb Shank - Ossobucco style with spinach mash potatoes. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the dish as a whole was fantastic as well as more than I could eat in one setting, so I will be enjoying the leftovers for another meal. To top everything off, we had their tiramisu for dessert. It was very good. Next time though I think we’ll try the cheesecake.

Fantastic from appetizer to dessert!! Very attentive but unobtrusive service. The grilled salmon sambuca was delightful, with a lively valpolicella. The pour was generous. Nice ambiance, soft tasteful music that doesn’t drown your conversation. Tasteful and simple decor. Gentle but good lighting so you don’t have to bring your flashlight to read the menu. Don’t pass on the tiramisu!

Visiting from out of town, found this place randomly. Delicious! Great service too…authentic Italian. Pictured is the linguine with white wine sauce. My partner had the lamb ravioli, also delicious. Will definitely return.

Attentive staff and a very competent kitchen. Italian menu well executed with some great tweaks! Stopped in for brunch recently on a Saturday and though the locale is a bit hard scrabble the experience and food were great.

If my pockets were heftier I’d go back for the lamb shank every week. I never had lamb so good in my life! (Sorry grandma 🙃) The food and drinks were amazing. Had a great time!

Exactly what a real Italian restaurant should look, feel, sound and taste like. In the Logan district so not in the crowded streets of downtown DC. It gets packed around 6:30 and the atmosphere is loud and boisterous. People are having a good time. We had a big group for an office party so we tried all the appetizers. In particular the Portabello mushrooms, the Calamari and chick Peas, scallops and Prosciutto were all fantastic. Our group ordered a lot of eclectic dishes. The special, Red Snapper, was a hit with several people. The NY Strip looked sensational. Duck, chicken parm....this place can do it all. Closed it down w excellent desserts, Tiramisu for me and my wife. All for an incredibly affordable price considering the high quality of food and service. Will definitely go back.

Tortino always has excellent food with all the Italian flavors, great service, and a high class environment for a reasonable cost. I've never ordered anything on the menu that's been less than amazing. Hidden gem of DC.

Great restaurant to go for Friday night dinner. The food was pretty good for its price (mid-range) and the service was great. We had pan seared scallops and it was pretty nice. My friend ordered the special, lobster ravioli and the cream was exceptional; have to say it is one of the best ravioli we ever had. I had the pan seared duck breast and the dressing was superb as well as the tenderness of the meat. The server recommended us the chocolate cake for dessert; it was not bad. The cocktails are lower than average though, plain and not interesting at all. Our overall dining experience was great. Note: not a very quiet place if you want a place for conversation.

No idea if this is the case, but I got the vibe this is a neighborhood place. A large group came in and were greeted warmly with welcome backs, and some tables just struck me as a group of friends meeting up. If that's true, I'd love to be in this neighborhood. Basement of a house, so it's comfortable but nothing fancy, and it got a bit loud once in a while with the large group and such. We got a table without a reservation. Again, if it is a neighborhood restaurant it's way more than a red sauce and meatball joint, which I have nothing against. Along with pasta it has a nice selection of entrees. I got the lamb chop special; nicely done with a red wine sauce, whipped potatoes, and a medley of asparagus and carrots (no zucchini, many thanks). My wife's penne alla Norcina had just enough spice with the pork and cream sauce. I was really satisfied with the food and the pricing. I"ve paid more for lesser food.

E
Ethan Ritchey

Great food. I’ve had the steak as well as the crab ravioli, both good choices. Additionally the tiramisu for dessert is one of the best I’ve had. The service is excellent, last trip I had forgot my bag, but my server noticed and ran out after me saving the day.

I was pleasantly surprised at the cost-benefit ratio at this unassuming restaurant. The lamb ravioli, norcina sausage penne and duck dish were really tasty and decently priced. I did takeout but the service was so pleasant that I felt encouraged to come back for a sit-down dinner. Glad to see there are still a few hidden gems in DC!

Tortino is a solid Italian gem tucked in Shaw. Cozy setting, nice service, and you can tell effort went into the food. The handmade pastas (especially the linguini & braised lamb ravioli) are really good, and the appetizers like carpaccio and scallops deliver. Desserts are light but satisfying — panna cotta is a winner. It’s not cheap, and sometimes service lags a bit when it’s busy, but overall great for a date night or dinner with friends. Definitely will go back.

Genuinely one of the best Italian meals I've ever had! I got the bolognese and it was absolutely scrumptious. The free bread at the start of the meal was insanely delicious, and everyone who worked here was consistently friendly and attentive. I can't recommend it enough, I will absolutely be returning the next time I'm in DC.

Great restaurant. Our fist visit with a group of 11. They handled us well and were perfectly attentive. Food was excellent. The calamari were not fried and much better in our opinion. Tiramisu was top notch (no surprise).

Update: Went back and the second experience wasn't as good as our first. Still worth a trip if you're looking for solid italian food. Original review: Wonderful Italian food. Every dish was well put together and excellently flavored. Seems like Tortino flies under the radar, but if you're looking for a good Italian dinner don't hesitate to go. Definitely give the grilled calamari a shot! Music choices were a bit odd and the ambience wasn't amazing, but all that is forgiven for the high quality of the food.

Great, unless if you come before closing... We dined here tonight and Our experience was great until the end. We enjoyed every level of our 4 course meal, and a bottle of wine and cocktails. Our waitress Madeline was quick and friendly. Except the end of the meal felt very uncomfortable. At the end of the night, the female busser came and said that she “needed to take our glassware” even with drinks still in these glasses. This was ridiculous given that we still had beverages that we paid a lot of money for, wine and cocktails. This was very disappointing, because it seemed like she wanted us to vacate the premises as soon as possible, soon after we sat down at 8pm. you would think that a $200 meal, for covers and a bottle of wine, would allow for a guest to stay more than 10 minutes after 10 PM, but not at this establishment. To management, As a fellow Industry manager, your staff is great, but they have to use some sort of discretion at the end of the night. Even if it is the end of their shift, paying guests are still there for the experience. Your food is fantastic, and I hope your employees are able to extend some sort of customer courtesy.

A lovely evening with delicious food and wine. Attentive and friendly service and a comfortable atmosphere. We had two of their pasta specials. Carpaccio as appetizer and tiramisu for dessert. We enjoyed them all. If I could make one suggestion. The music just doesn’t fit the Italien restaurant theme. It’s more like a bar type of music.

Tortino is a lovely little Italian place. Discovered it as I was walking in the neighborhood. It’s small and quiet. Service was very attentive and delicious entrees.

a great vibe for a southern italian restaurant with efficient and kind service. thank you to our server, she was so sweet and cute!! they had a list of special items like pomodoro soup and this spinach infused seafood pasta (which i got). the pasta wasnt too heavy and actually couldve had more flavor but i enjoyed it a lot! the texture was great.

P

Great Italian place! We got the lamb ravioli which was exceptionally good. The linguini and taglierini was both good in its own way. Scallop appetizer was well cooked but a bit too salty. Would recommend overall.

K

We arrived on a Thursday evening without a reservation and found the place relatively calm. Opted for the linguini and octopus dish, which turned out to be delightful. The linguine was particularly impressive, paired with a flavorful broth. While the octopus was enjoyable, the portion included 6-8 pieces. The dish also featured a distinctive type of pepper that added an interesting twist to the overall experience.

Grilled octopus very good, risotto with lobster and shrimp sublime. The Tiramisu was awesome. The canoli were average. Alex, our server was superb

We were very pleasantly surprised by this cozy restaurant in the Shaw neighborhood. The food was good and they had a great selection of wine.. If I had one small criticism it is that the chef over sauces the dishes, which doesn't allow the pasta itself to shine. I had the fettuccine Bolognese and, while great, it could have used a little less Bolognese. My husband had a ravioli and it was swimming in sauce. Just a tablespoon or two less would have made the plate more attractive. Just my two-cents. But not a game changer. This place is definitely worth a visit. And the prices are really reasonable. Great value. Finally, the service was exceptional. In fact, the waitress/hostess was so attentive that it was almost intrusive.

M
Min Z

The dinner plates were delicious and well prepared. All of my friends loved what we ordered. The desserts were disappointing. We had two desserts, Calssic Tiramisu and Semifreddo - both didn't meet our expectations. If we didn't order dessert we would give the restaurants 5-star rating.

T
Theresa Hill

The majority of our group enjoyed their meals; gnocchi and salmon. However, the risotto of the day was a disappointment. It was al dente and cold. I know it is hard to get good risotto eating out, but if you are going to have risotto on the menu it should be at least reasonably prepared.

P
Phil Hardy

This used to be a favorite restaurant, but it is beyond repair. It has been three or four years since we went and it hascompletely gone downhill. We ordered a variety of food and I ordered the easiest: chicken Parmesan, which was a special. It was inedible. By 8:30 PM the music had gone off and we were by then the only people left in the entire restaurant. It was a Thursday evening. Avoid.

С
Струс Мирослава

This place is cheating customers. I came here with 4 friends and the food was good. But like many customers, the problems started when paying the bill. We were charged 22% for a large table (in the menu it is for groups of 6 or more people). We called the manager to clarify this issue, but the manager started asking how much % of the bill we wanted to leave as a tip, and simply ignored the words that we would discuss it without him. And then he started telling us about the tipping culture in America, as if we were going to leave without leaving a tip. After such a completely disrespectful attitude, we left the money and were about to leave. But the manager told us to wait, and took a calculator and began to recalculate the tip. After counting the money in front of us, he said that there was not enough money (for a certain percentage of tips). After paying the money, we just left, completely disappointed with the dinner. Extortion of tips is illegal, and such behavior is absolutely indecent. There are similar stories in the comments, so always check your receipt. Do not recommend.
