Wonderful old school Italian food served in a unique comfortable “feels like home” setting. Sauces are delicious. Chicken Parm, Lasagna, veal & eggplant piccata, and of course a Caesar Salad. Service excellent also.

A group of us went to Dan Tana’s before a show. We made reservations the week before. We used the valet parking for convenience and we didn’t see any available street parking. Valet parking was $16, not including tip. The inside of Dan Tana’s has the vibe of a classic Italian restaurant your parents would take you to as a kid. The decor has not changed, nor should it. It’s classic! The restaurant is divided into two rooms. You enter into the bar/dining room. Our table was in the room behind the bar. There is also a small patio for outdoor dining. The maître d’ let us know our table was booked after us so we couldn’t take too long after dinner, which was fine because we had a show to go to anyway. The waiter was wearing a tuxedo, but he kept telling us it wasn’t a fancy place. The waiter was fantastic. He spent a lot of time talking to the group, recommending dishes, and making our experience there enjoyable. First we ordered drinks. The drinks were strong. They were quick to take our orders. I’m not sure if they are always that attentive, or they just wanted us to leave on time. Either way, we loved the service. Every meal came with a side of spaghetti. We ordered the classics: chicken Parmesan, Caesar salad, New York steak, and a few others. Everyone loved their meal. We also ordered a few desserts. Everything was delicious. I did take a peek at the patio before we left. There were a few tables outside but it was a hot summer day so no one was dining out there. If your looking for an old school Italian restaurant, this is your place.

Been wanting yo come here for over 30 years! Much smaller inside than I anticipated but the crowd was young and hip and staff incredibly friendly. Service was top notch! Food wise my husband had two Cesar salads because he loves it so much. I had chicken parmigiana which was a huge serving and came with a side of spaghetti. Very good. The fries calamari were excellent! Fresh and melt in your mouth. Dessert was also wonderful. The tiramisu did not disappoint but what I thought was crazy good was the cappuccino ice cream. Drinks were excellent. Overall a great time.

The New York Steak, Dabney Coleman was one of the best steaks I have ever had!!! Fresh salads as well. Very cozy atmosphere where many celebrities are cited. I am not even close to a celebrity… but felt I was treated like one by the fantastic staff. I would definitely recommend trying this place !!!

What a place! Getting a reservation at Dan Tana’s is a challenge for sure, but once you’re in, you’re good! I love that they still use old school reservation book. It’s fun to see. The food is so delicious. The service is friendly and attentive. The place itself is very unique and can’t be found anywhere else. They’ve opened up the back area, so they have outdoor dining options now.

Wow! You wouldn’t know it from looking at it. The outside is dated and misleading. I had the Chicken parmigiana which was absolutely fantastic. Service is great very traditional Italian. Bar staff are friendly and sharp. Really nice spot. I loved it and would come back.

Want to try this place for years, since I live in Chicago, today was my chance since came to LA for a week, and oh my the Vlade Divac dish is so flavorful and delicious I'm without the words. And portion is huge I got my 2nd half for to go. Very cozy and historical place.. Happy 89th birthday Dan Tana on May 26th!

Best Italian, LOVE LOVE this place, it should never close it's doors. The food ALWAYS taste the same, and it's great. The fettuccine is so creamy. Chicken parmesan super sized & very delicious. Oh the spaghetti with meat sauce is not to be missed. I am a Stan of Dan Tana's

This evening I ordered a minestrone for take away, and the waitress was an angel. Such a kind and wonderful woman. The soup was also very delicious. I’m very satisfied.

Claimed to be 1 of the hotspots for celebs so it must be good right? Well it was for sure! Not too pricey and big portions. The place had a very authentic feel to it You can tell there’s some history. The people that worked there were all dressed up which was a nice add on. The women who welcomed us was came off very genuine. Our waiter did not always understand what we were saying but me and my gf did not mind, the place was poppin!

Opened in 1964, Dan Tana’s is a LA landmark that has seen countless diners, celebrities, and travelers over its 58 year run. A yellow house on Santa Monica Boulevard it’s hard to miss and really stands out from everything surrounding it. It’s known for it’s classic, old world Italian food in a come as you are casual setting. It feels like you’re being transported back in time to the 1960s or early 70s, but in the good way. Parking options will be valet or metered street parking; there’s no free parking in this part of town or at least nowhere close. It was packed tonight and even though we made reservations a month ago we had to wait a bit to be seated so making reservations ahead of time is suggested. Also important to note it’s VERY loud on the inside so a private chat will be next to impossible. It’s known to have the best Chicken Parmesan in LA so of course I had to try that as my entree this evening and it was absolutely delicious. The portion is huge with tons of bubbling and melting cheese on top. For my starter I chose the Caesar salad (which is also known to be the best in LA. I personally don’t think it is although it was very tasty. Overall expensive @ $28 but worth trying once) and the Tomato & Onions. I enjoyed the Tomato & Onions more than the salad and would definitely order it again. The onions were spicy and delicious and the tomatoes were large and juicy. Overall a great meal in a casual and loud setting. I can see why it’s famous. This would not be the best place for a business dinner or a date due to the small size and volume, but it’s a great spot for dinner with friends or family. The bar was especially busy tonight and it’s situated directly in the middle so I would suggest not sitting at the booths near the bar or you’ll have people’s butts head level to you as you’re eating.

Tana's is the place to go for a great dinner, tasty cocktails, and maybe even rub elbows with a Hollywood notable. It's a small place, so make sure to make a reservation. The prices are a bit on the high-side, but the portions are large (about the size of two entrees). The cocktails are well-made, and delicious as well. I ranked Service 4 stars, since the first night we went was spectacular, but the second night the service was polar opposite, very underwhelming. (Figuring that was an anomoly) We ordered the Pimento and Sardines as an appetizer, and if you've never tried it, it's a must try. (It's large enough that you could conceivably order it as an entree) The Chicken Parmesan is the house specialty, but it's a heavy dish for a warm night. We had the Chicken Marsala which was fantastic, and the Whitefish which stole the show. The side of pasta with the Bolognese sauce is a great kicker to add bang to your buck. The Montepulciano was perfect to go along with dinner after having a Martini pre-meal. We will definitely return for dinner and drinks the next time we're in Hollywood! Cheers🍸

Amazing fun service with Hollywood's elite servers. Our young man (a mere boy in his 70s) was hilarious and engaging. The food is like Nona made and portioned to offset the price. You have to go once but I imagine the price will be secondary to the experience and you'll want to return. Love, love, loved this engaging and delicious meal!

When you walk into Dan Tana’s you feel like you’re going back in time to old Hollywood. The decor, the bar, and the waiters uniforms all feel like you’re stepping back into what Hollywood used to be decades ago. You’ll never expect to find this little restaurant that’s been around for ages in West Hollywood. Firstly let me say. Make sure to reserve! At least a week in advance. I booked on a Monday for Saturday and the earliest reservation they had was 9pm. We got there and were greeted by a very friendly lady who actually managed to get us seated pretty quickly outside. Let me say however, if this is your first visit to Dan Tana’s you definitely want to sit inside. That’s where the atmosphere and experience is. We went back in and were told we’d have to wait a little while to get a table inside which is fine. We got these amazing martinis at the bar and waited for our table. It was definitely worth the wait. The portions at this place are big but still delicious. We loaded up on all the carbs having Penne Arabiata as well as getting the lasagne and cheesy garlic bread. We also got a wonderful bottle of red wine. The server was very quick and efficient. When he was pouring us wine he realized the bottle was already empty and so ended up coming back with a full glass of red for one of my friends who didn’t get a top up, and didn’t charge us for it. A very nice touch to end the night. I’m sure their desert is amazing too but we were way too full after dinner. I will definitely be returning to this beautiful chic restaurant. Please never change.

Right off the bat, one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! Incredibly delicious food served in very generous portions. From the calamari fritti to the chicken parmigiana, everything was superb. Very intimate setting with a “come as you are” vibe which in my opinion, makes for a great atmosphere.

By far one of the best dining experiences I have ever had in Los Angeles or anywhere for that matter. From the moment you step in, you are treated like family. If you are lucky enough to get a reservation, your life will change forever and for the better. Live a little bit and order the garlic cheese bread.

Classic place- I’ve been a time before but I had reservations the first time. This time I walked in and was able to get a spot at the bar- barely. Fun environment. The food is good. I had the half and hall- I actually didn’t know what it was as the menu doesn’t explain. It’s half Bolognese and half Ravioli. I enjoyed it. It’s classic Italian-American. Not authentic Italian. But delicious The host, Terry, is a gem. Great guy. Bartending is quick and makes it a fun evening.

We tried this place after reading about it plus our enjoyment of Italian food and Old Hollywood. Everything was wonderful. We did see James Woods dining as well, as this place is famous for being a spot for celebrities.

Incredible dining experience. We dined with a large group of 12. Impeccable attentive service delivered with just the right amount of humor!😁 Drinks and food were on point! Clam linguini and veal parmigiana were exceptional. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to an old Hollywood dining experience!

Service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. Serves traditional Italian dishes. We had fried zucchini, fried calamari, cannelloni and veal Milanese. Delicious. Have to come back another time to try the other items in the menu.

I was lucky enough to have lunch with Dan Tana about two years ago and listen for hours to stories that predated the opening of this iconic place. Dan Tana’s carries the spirit of the old times—where fame, glamour, simplicity, pride, boldness, and honor mix into something magical that will always endure. Although my first actual visit is hopefully happening in the near future, I can confidently say it will be one of the best restaurants I’ve ever experienced, simply based on the introduction I received from the founder, Dan Tana himself.

The atmosphere here!!! The food was excellent! I had the scallops with linguine! Yum!! Everybody in the entire place sang Happy Birthday to two different people as the wait staff served them cake. I think it's some sort of tradition, because everybody in the whole place joined in! And somebody yelled, "Dan Tana's on a Sunday night!" You definitely got the feeling that there were actors, writers, and producers here that were just hanging out at "the corner bar" . They have plaques on the wall from the City of Los Angeles celebrating their 50th anniversary from 10 years ago. So they have been there at that location for 60 + years now! You could tell that most of the people knew each other and were regulars. It is steps away from the Beverly Hills sign. It is very small and intimate. It was solidly expensive! And it was worth every penny! (The sincere attention to the food is amazing! After about 70, or so, years of doing what they do, they are absolute masters! ) The food was superb! And more than one person (discreetly) came by my table to make sure everything was up to par! (I went to see singer-songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan after dinner just a few steps away at that famous old club called the Troubadour.) ....Did I mention the atmosphere and crusty bread??!!🙃🙃🙃 Oh, and the waiter! He was so cool and so quietly amazing! He introduced me to a couple of other guys who were going to see the show next door at the Troubadour. I think one of them was Engelbert Humperdinck.(Wow!) It was very nice of the waiter to make the introduction. Did I mention that I had a wonderful time, and that the food was excellent!? Again, Wow!!! Just Wow!!!! Amazing!

Chicken parm is dumb good. Chopped caesar too. The bread & butter just keeps coming baby.

This is a historic Italian restaurant where famous Hollywood celebrities go. The owner Dan Tana's name was used as the screen name of Robert Urich as Dan Tanna a detective on Vega$. That night we saw Tony Soprano having dinner. I restricted pictures out of respect for the guests. Long wait despite reservations (no space without), but they have great and reasonably priced drinks. We shared several orders family style, the Veal Milanese, Spaghetti Marinara, Chicken Parmigiana and Caesar salad were excellent. Old world distinguished and attentive service. Awesome place to go.

This restaurant is amazing. Been in business forever serving great Italian cuisine to the Stars of Hollywood. Fun and busy, suited waiters, quick and experienced. Red check tablecloths and Chianti bottles overhead. Perfect ambiance. The Ceasar salad was perfect, we ordered the Chicken Vesuvius, dark and light meat in a buttery garlic sauce. Awesome. But their Chicken parm is famous. A bucket- list to-do.

Everything was very nice about my experience at this restaurant this evening. Celebrating a friend's birthday lettuce to start off with cocktails at the bar, and the big thing there is it's very hard to get a seat because at 5:00 it's already getting filled with regulars. They took us to our table and is a very homey looking Italian restaurant and that makes it just a lightful. My glass of keonte was really good and so was my spaghetti and meatballs. I'm glad that I finally got to come here cuz it's only taking me 30 years.

A Hollywood landmark for a reason. I’ve been wanting to get to Dan Tana’s for a long time and it was worth the wait. Be sure to call to make a reservation ahead of time as they were slammed on a Thursday night. The restaurant hasn’t changed since the 60s - which is exactly what I was looking for. It felt like we stepped into a Time Machine. We ordered anchovies and pimentos as the appetizer. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect light starter. Our entrees were Linguine with white clam sauce and vermicelli with fresh tomatoes and basil. Both were excellent. Service was on the slow side, but made up for by delicious food and funny, attentive servers. We will definitely return!

A well-known and recognized restaurant in LA. The atmosphere is casual. It is recommended to book a place well in advance of your arrival, maybe even a month. The prices are acceptable and the restaurant is not one of the more expensive, just the opposite for the service it offers. The staff is polite and helpful. What about the food?! Natural ingredients of Italian cuisine..all praise for appetizers, main course and dessert. In addition to good food and polite staff, you can also meet the stars of Hollywood and LA in general. Don't be surprised if a famous player, coach or actor sits next to your table, all because of the relaxed atmosphere. We give a 10 star recommendation out of 5 stars

This is one of our foodie friend's favorite restaurants. This was my first visit. Our friend ordered for the table so that we could all enjoy a little bit of everything, family style. Overall, all the dishes we ordered were good to very good. Nothing stood out as exceptional. The service was top-notch while we were eating, but they were quick to get us out of there once we paid the bill. That's because there was a line of people waiting to get a table. I'm happy to say that I've now eaten at the famous Dan Tana's. Do I want or need to go again? Not really.

Dan Tana’s is still a Hollywood staple, and provides for a very fun evening out. Terry, at the front of house was so accommodating and did everything possible to get us to our table, even though they were packed. We had the great pleasure of having Igor as our server, and he made our night. He is a classy, distinguished gentleman, in the truest sense of the words. Our service was impeccable. You feel like you are in the 1970s or 1980s and that era celebrity could walk in any moment. The James Woods special, AKA Veal Florentine was very good.

Food was decent (An Italian restaurant with bulk supply butter rectangles, basic bread and spaghetti, but delicious fried ravioli) Chicken Parmigiano and Lasagna were delicious, but very pricey. The golden ticket is the atmosphere. Tables crammed close together in a loud friendly restaurant with wonderful staff... and customers. It felt like we were eating dinner at an Italian family's house... and that part made the cost worth it.

This place has been around forever, and it's easy to see why. The service is polished, the food is beautifully executed, and there's a real old-school charm to the whole experience. From the moment you walk in, you can tell you're in a restaurant that takes pride in tradition. Hard to get a reservation. The veal and fish entrees — both were excellent, rich with flavor and clearly made with top-notch ingredients. The wine list has everything you could need, but less extensive than other places. That said, be prepared to pay for the experience. This is not your casual pasta night kind of place. It’s more of a special-occasion splurge or a “treat yourself” dinner. Its worth it if you want to experience one of the most classic Italian spots in LA. Service is great.

We had a reservation for 8:00 and were seated at 8:40. We were served quickly from that point. The wine pours were generous. We split the chicken parm and Caesar salad - only 3 croutons between the two of us. Overall it was fun but getting seated so late put a damper on our night since we had a show to get to, no time for dessert unfortunately. We also noticed that their regulars seem to get seated faster compared to us out-of-towners. It would’ve been 5 stars if it was first come first serve

The most important thing to know about this iconic destination in West Hollywood is that has been popular for many years including among celebrities. Al Pacino is a regular. If it had not been famous, DT's might not have survived, since it appears to have largely maintained the same menu and look and feel for many decades. First-timers might be surprised that it is so small, much the same as a set used in television which is an appropriate analogy. Although it is dated, for many that predictability or consistency is what draws them back. This is old-school Italian American fare, generally speaking and it is done quite well. If you want trendy, more modern straight from Italy fare, go somewhere else. Although servings are generous, it is on the pricey side, but that shouldn't shock anyone who has dined around LA since that's the way things go in this part of the world. Parking is to be found on the side streets nearby. Tables are head to come by, so phone ahead as early as possible when tables open up.

Went to Dan Tana for the first time. Portions are huge. I split the chicken parm with my friend. Service felt like little Italy Mulberry street in nyc. If you are vegan, options are very limited. Food was good but this place has lots of history and it won’t change for good or bad. Fried ravioli and chopped salad were good. Linguine with clams was really good too. Cheesecake slapped.

The bathroom situation was plain gross , with outdated and not-so-pleasant facilities. On a positive note, the service was friendly and efficient. In essence, if you're seeking familiar Italian comfort food, this place in West Hollywood delivers. However, don't expect the dishes to be particularly unique or special. They're good but not standout. Opt for an indoor table for the complete ambiance, and be prepared for the bathroom situation. Overall, it's a decent stop for classic Italian fare in the area.

This is a fun experience to do once, but we would probably never return. Our reservation got seated 30 min after our reserved time. The server seemed to have been sipping on the house wine he was serving, but was pleasant and engaging. Caesar Salad was amazing. The Parmesan Chicken was very good. Wife was disappointed they ran out of meatballs.

The atmosphere here is awesome. The prices are outrageously high, even for LA, but they can get away with it because clearly people are willing to pay it. Food was yummy but again over priced. My server was great.

Been here quite a few times over the years. It's been here for a very long time and is definitely an institution. It attracts a somewhat trendy crowd. Typically with a reservation, you might get seated in a timely manner or, you might end up waiting for a long time. If the bar is packed with people waiting for their reservation or just people getting drinks or eating at the bar, good luck getting the bartender's attention. Their cappuccino ice cream is to die for and this is one of the few (if only places) you can find it. If you're looking for upscale Italian with an old school type feel, this would definitely be it. It's packed, tight and noisy but some people find this to be really appealing.

As a New Yorker, I am spoiled with incredible Italian and Italian-American cuisine so Dan’s food does not overly impress me. That said, there are certainly some great steaks and dishes there. For me the draw is everything else. The conversations at the bar, the star servers and bartenders, the lighting, walls and tables. I like the way I am greeted when I walk in the door. Some’ll appreciate the celebrity sightings. It’s a great scene to see and be seen.

Iconic establishment and fun to cross off your list for a dinner. That being said, the menu felt very overpriced. The interior decor was underwhelming imo, but maybe that’s part of the charm… having eaten at both I would much rather return too Musso and Frank. My final note is that the staff were very accommodating and in good spirits/joked with us. One of my friends lost his phone and wallet in the booth in the corner and after exchanging some jokes, they had staff members come out and personally look under the booth seats for us.

Dining here was a memorable experience. We arrived on a rainy evening to find the entrance packed with people seeking refuge from the downpour. Despite everyone having reservations, most seemed to be waiting an hour or more past their scheduled time. Surprisingly, my boyfriend and I were seated on the patio just 15 minutes after our reservation and were in and out within an hour. Our server struck the perfect balance—attentive without being intrusive—and our meal arrived within 20 minutes, which was impressive given how busy they were. We shared the New York steak, asparagus, and lasagna, and everything was delicious. The steak was cooked to a flawless medium rare, and the lasagna tasted like it was made from scratch, offering a comforting, homemade flavor. Initially, we were seated along the edge of the awning, and I started getting wet as the rain picked up. Our waiter quickly noticed and relocated us inside, even offering a complimentary dessert as a kind gesture. The decor inside is fun and adds to the overall experience. Considering everything, I’d definitely dine here again and highly recommend this iconic spot.

The place seemed popular. 😋 The food tasted like authentic Italian food. 🇮🇹 I loved the Pesto Gnocchi, 😍 but my company didn't enjoy her clam linguine. 🍝 She thought it was lacking in flavor and expected something more extravagant for the price. 💸 In defense of the restaurant, it was on point as far as authenticity, 🇮🇹 and the pasta was of perfect texture. 👍 Menus should be a bit more descriptive. 📝

The food just isn’t THAT great... Judging on the food alone, I would give this place 2 stars. Judging on atmosphere alone I would give this place 4-5 stars, then factoring the price, we average out at 3 stars. The cocktail shrimps were dry and gross. The tomatoes in the caprese salad was old and of poor quality. Seeing as you’re only serving 4 slices you’d think that they’d choose 4 dang good slices. The lasagne was good but not of Italian standards, same with the gnocchi. The veal was also dry and underwhelming. Overall the food was eh. Its definitely edible but nothing noteworthy or memorable. The atmosphere, however, is adorable! I loved the way the waiters were dressed, and their service was awesome. The decor was quirky and lovable. The place was also packed and bustling making it feel like it was THE spot to be.

We went on Saturday night. I heard good things about this place hence we went there. The food was below average. Also the service was meh. The servers kept making silly jokes. We are there to dine and not at a comedy show. Not what I expected honestly

the place is nice just the inside, the host very nice and attentive, the food was ok portions are generous, fried calamary good they put baby octupus pasta carbonara good ravioli with meat sauce good Gnocchi alfredo Big NO. tasteless. the waiters never came to clean the table or ask, they never refilled the water glasses (sparkling no tap means we paid for it) they didn't ask if I wanted to order another bottle I had to ask for it, they didn't ask how the appetizers or the curses were, given their fame and name, they should train the team better. I describe this experience as decent.

Went in to eat a meal. Food was just ok. The service wasn’t bad but we were treated very bad. They acted like we were lucky to come eat their high priced food. We were told we had a limited time to eat our meal because they needed the table. We did have reservations. It wasn’t like they worked us in.

If you're going for the vibes, please go. Great old school, italian vibes. However, the food is absolutely cafeteria food. And the price tag is ungodly. No reason that any caesar salad should be $29. My recommendation is to go for drinks at the bar to say you've been to the famous Dan Tana's, but avoid the food at all costs. You will spend a fortune and it's not a satisfying meal.

Felt like a bit of a scam. Not one to leave reviews but wanted to save someone else the trouble of having a poor experience... Despite having a reservation we waited over 30 minutes to eventually get sat outside on a patio table (that also apparently had been available the whole time?) - maybe offer reservations that are made to wait long periods a drink while they wait or comp an appetizer? - how to take of your guests 101 sort of stuff but I guess they aren't hurting for business. I bet this spot was legit 50+ years ago but now feels like a scammy spot where they can charge tourists outrageous amounts for things you could make better at home.

This one is a bummer. Sure, the place has an iconic LA history, but is it worth it? For our party of 3, last Tuesday night, it sure wasn't. We arrived at 7:25 for a 7:30 reservation. Our entire party was there. Checked in with the hostess... and waited.. and waited....and waited. The hostess kept smiling and working the room. Fifteen minutes go by, then 30... we check in about our table..."Almost!" ..."soon!".....45 min...we then realize that anyone who they know is seated immediately....but newcomers get to wait. What good is a reservation? It ain't worth nothing here. The hostess starts pouring on the compliments, "Oh, I love your shoes, oh here's some matches, oh! You guys win the prize for waiting the longest for your table!" I don't want that prize, I want a table and a nice dinner! Then at about an hour and 10 minutes, only after staring the hostess down as she's about to seat another 3 top of "regulars" do we get our table, and then we get seated at a truly horrible table outside with zero ambiance. The gregarious waiter greets us, and I ask if it's normal to wait an hour for a table? And almost as if rehearsed, cuz we know he's heard this before, he almost yells, "YES! IT IS!" We were all pretty agitated and irritated at this point, so it affected the meal... which was lackluster at best. Overcooked rubbery fried calamari, underseasoned caesar...I will say the chicken parm was good. They did end up comping our drinks, but the entire evening was off because of their poorly run system of seating people. This was confirmed by the hostess when we encountered her again when we were leaving, she actually referred to it as a living museum, not sure if she meant the restaurant itself or the regulars, but thats what she said......Sorry guys, this is a Los Angeles love affair that I'm happy to break up with.

Honestly this place is more about the vibe inside not the food or drinks. Service was great, can’t fault it but the food is very mid. If you can’t make a negroni at an Italian-American “institution” you’re doing something wrong. Prices are very LA, chicken parmigiana and lasagna were fine not great but left feeling like we got ripped for basic Italian food you can get anywhere in the world.

Bread is amazing! Under than that, very expensive for the quality. I understand you pay sugar it's almost Beverly Hills and there is celebrities coming here. Antipasto is not really antipasto, more like a salad... $20 for iceberg, and peas $30 for lasagna, good but not great Wine and cocktail were good, but not crazy Antipasto, lasagna, 1 cocktail, 1 San giovese, 1 coffee... $140 absolutely, doesn't worth it. Place vibe is not crazy! I feel like people pay a lot to feel they are in an "authentic" place... Bar tender was nice.

First time, last time. Sorry Igor, we liked you but overall this place is immensely overrated for 250 dollar dinner for two. Went for my bday, never been but knew it was an LA staple and happened to be staying close by. And they gave us a rez so we went. It's true if you're a regular they will sit you and bump your reservation. Our rez time passed and were hungry so we took the outside table they offered. but it's a shabby outside. Food was ok overall. Chopped salad was tasty but it was small for 25 dollars. Chicken parm was decent but not worth 50 dollars. Sauce was really sweet. Scampi was decent but my girl thought it was fishy. also not worth 60 dollars. I probably should have read more reviews before we went. I knew it would be pricey but I expected way more value in the experience. If you want great Italian, there are plenty of other places that won't be this expensive.

Beware, if you make a reservation and you’re not a “regular” you might get stuck at a table in the side alley where you are at the whim of the wind and weather. Nothing on their web site or reservation system warns you that you could get places outside. The food was excellent (maybe a bit too much sugar in the sauce?) and the service lovely. Prices very reasonable. But watch out for one of the few table out back!

Over $100 for bland food, cold sides, and rock-hard bread. Add a $20 valet and a dated vibe, and yeah… never again.

Absolutely disappointing. The food had zero flavor — not even salt could save it. The pasta was shockingly overpriced for what tasted like overcooked noodles in bland sauce. Don’t let the name or the old-school Hollywood vibe fool you — this place coasts on nostalgia and hype, not quality. There are far better Italian spots in LA at half the price and twice the flavor. Hard pass.

Hating that I need to hate on a Los Angeles iconic restaurant… caveat to this review is that we were sat outside without being informed… a party of two at a comfy booth and table for six. So another caveat is do not go here if you are a couple, it is family style Italian. That being said, as an honorary Italian for the amount of pizza and pasta I have ordered, consumed, and/or cooked, I thought the food was extremely subpar for the price and quality. Scallops were small and over cooked. Spaghetti marinara was at least cooked Al dente, but not fresh and quite bland sauce. The steak was well cooked to order but just a pepper crust, no sauce, no frills, no nothing, therefore, not much taste. Underwhelming for a place that charges 90 for a steak. So many place in Los Angeles that eclipse this place in atmosphere, although to be fair we were sat outside and had to ing ore th telephone poles, wires, and swirling flies. I am left wondering what place in LA is this overpriced and so underwhelming. Shocked and sad for those who are sat outside, and although those inside, which is small, loud, and too crowded to enjoy the old school bar etc. also you still are eating the same sad food… a shame to its Italian roots… vergognati!

Thoroughly dissatisfied with the rude and unhelpful service. We didn't call ahead for a reservation but the host said he could find us a table for two. We waited for an hour despite a booth for two going untouched. Maybe they were saving it for someone more important? But definitely wasn't me. The host practically ignored us until I asked if there would be a table. He then said he was sitting someone so we left. The setting is cool but jam packed. Very cheesy old school Italian restaurant and bar.

HUGE disappointment. My boyfriend and I arrived when it was fairly packed and there was a booth open. We didn't make a reservation and asked for seating for two. The host said "Wait a second, I'll find something for you." Then he kept running in and out of the kitchen, answering the phone and running credit cards. I understand that it was getting busy, but with the lack of space to to sit let alone stand, the least they could have done was tell us how long we were going to have to wait. 40 minutes later of standing there were about 20 other people crammed in the front door waiting and I asked him, "Sir that table has been open for over half an hour, can we sit?" And his response was, "I'm seating someone there now." What? We had been waiting for 40 minutes without being updated before anyone else showed up and we were turned down a table that had been open when we arrived. The service was rude, the staff was too low, the space was too cramped, and the overall experience was dissatisfying.

This my first time to this place I had Olive Garden last night and I kid you not it was better Food is bland I will not eat again overrated definitely just a celebrities eats here. It’s supposed to be good. Food is celebrities pallets different than mine I guess

Fun, buzzy interior and nice locals vibe. Food was unbelievably mediocre even when ordering their specialties. Would not recommend at all.

Whenever you call them to make a reservation in advance, maître d just hangs up on you saying you have to call the same day you want to come in. And when you call the same day they will give you a table for 6pm or 9pm…Literally no goodbye nothing, just hangs up :) how can you hire such people

Tried to call and make a reservation but my call kept getting rejected. On a hunch, I called from my hotel phone and it rang through. Turns out they filter callers from out of the area. Hostile practice.

Review: Dan Tana’s — A Requiem There was a time when walking into Dan Tana’s felt like slipping into the heartbeat of old Los Angeles. The red-leather booths, the clatter of martini glasses, the sense that you were part of something glamorous, unruly, and alive. The food was never the star, but it carried enough soul to keep the myth intact. That time has passed. What remains is a hollow echo of its own legend, a room still dressed for the party but long since abandoned by flavor, care, and pride. The plates that arrive at the table taste more like surrender than cooking: eggplant parmigiana swimming in grease sauce. The "George Clooney" veal milanese fried to oblivion, hard, dry and tasteless, if he only knew. Sauces as flat as supermarket jars, entrees so uninspired they feel like insults. Dan Tana’s now survives only as a monument to its former self, like a faded movie star still signing unwanted autographs at the mall. To call it an “Italian restaurant” is a slap in the face to all Italians. To call it a “legend” is a delusion. Even a strip-mall pizza shop offers more carefully prepared and tasteful Italian options. The saddest part isn’t the bad food, it’s the betrayal of memory. What once pulsed with life has curdled into nostalgia for a glory it no longer deserves. Dining here feels less like a night out and more like attending a wake. Dan Tana’s is not alive. It’s embalmed.

This place only exists for its regulars. If you're not a regular then their service is garbage. Reservation or not they seat you outdoors. We got the steak and veal chop medium rare. The steak was dry and overcooked. The veal was. Place is cooked. Italian cash grab.

Ridiculously rude staff. At one point, we asked for a knife, the waiter literally said, "I can't hear you," and walked away. Food was mediocre, like my girlfriend legit could have made better chicken parm at home. Paid $100+ per person. Skip it.

I cant say anything about food or atmosphere but all I can say is valet is so rude. Get your customer service checked! I walked up to ask a question and before I even said anything the guy behind the booth was like “where you going” and i said “oh i was wondering if you had more spots for valet?” And he said again louder and more harsh “WHERE YOU GOING” and i told him Andys and he said “we dont valet for andys”. Fair enough that they cant valet us I get it but to be so rude right away?? He couldve simply pointed out that the Andys valet was a different booth.

We had 7:15 reservations because we had tickets to a show at the Troubadour - we were seated at 7:45 after several appeals to the maitre d' (others who arrived later were seated first ). The food was mediocre, just typical diner-grade Italian with no sophistication. The prices were outrageous at double or triple what you'd normally pay for pasta in heavy red sauce.

I’m sorry but just because there’s a line outside and a crowd that says this is a thing.. doesn’t mean it’s a thing. He literally returned my ravioli Alfredo because it was terrible. So not eat here for the food. Because that’s not a thing. It’s packed. Don’t bother. Skip.

Terrible service. Food was awful n pricy. To make it worse. They rush u out the door too. No one was friendly at all. Not the front desk nor the waiters. Will not be back. Plenty of other better Italian restaurant. Dnt waste your time n money here

We came here to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday. I've always wanted to try this restaurant, but unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. The service was terrible from the start, and the food was mediocre at best--especially for how overpriced it is. The restaurant is very small and has an old-school Italian, Hollywood mob-style vibe, which could have been charming if the experience matched the atmosphere. Our server was rude immediately. My husband tried to order a shrimp cocktail appetizer, and the server abruptly said, "No, you have to order everything together," then walked away. We found it strange that we weren't allowed to order an appetizer. About 10 minutes later, he returned and said, "Fine, I'll take your order since you're hungry." When ordering, I asked what came in the "half and half," since the menu literally just says "half and half." He told me it was half spaghetti and half ravioli and said it was good. I then clearly said, "I'll take the lasagna. Thank you." Despite this, a food runner brought me the half and half. I politely told the kitchen staff that I had ordered the lasagna. The waiter then came over to my side of the booth and began yelling at me, insisting I had ordered the half and half. He was loud, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. I calmly explained that I only asked what it was and that I ordered the lasagna. He continued arguing and then said I would need to wait an hour for the lasagna and walked away. At that point, I was shocked and upset. I've never been spoken to like that by a server. When he returned, I asked him to cancel my order and I'll just have drinks. He said they were "doing a re-fire" anyway. I wanted to speak to a manager but didn't want to ruin my brother-in-law's birthday dinner. Five minutes later, the lasagna arrived--making the "one-hour wait" comment even more absurd. I understand mistakes happen, but being yelled at and spoken to that way was completely unacceptable. For a party of five, we ordered two bottles of Caymus, a shrimp cocktail, Caesar salads, and an entrée each. The bill was $913. Despite everything, we still left a $200 tip (about 22%) out of courtesy for the occasion. The waiter did try to redeem himself and gave us free desserts. To make matters worse, the hostess was yelling at our table and other tables, telling people to hurry up and leave, saying things like, "I get you want to watch the football game, but I need the tables." This happened immediately after we paid and were finishing our drinks. I’ve eaten at Michelin-rated restaurants and hole-in-the-wall Italian spots with better food, better service, handmade pastas, and far better value. This place is completely overhyped—mediocre food that’s overpriced, and shockingly poor service. I would not return and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Huge pass.

Made a reservation two weeks in advance, which that process could certainly be improved. You have a to call, you can’t reserve online, they don’t answer the phone and you MIGHT get a call back. Reservation was for 6:30pm, we were seated at 7:20pm with zero explanation as to why we waited almost an hour for a table we reserved. The hostess was doing everything but her job- sitting at tables with customers chatting them up and loudly and proudly exclaiming that she had just had a drink on the job after disappearing for 20 minutes. Waiter was neutral at best but his overall vibe was dismissive and uninterested in us. We’re in our late twenties and the average age of the other customers was more middle aged so maybe we just weren’t being taken seriously or maybe it’s a visitor v. regular kind of thing with their customers. Regardless, the service was bad. Food was mid. Nothing to write home about. Chicken parm breading was soggy and the chicken was dry. Overall, wouldn’t recommend but if combative hostesses (she also bragged about how she got in a fight with another customer earlier that night) and mediocre Italian food are your thing then this may be your place.

Rudest staff I've ever experienced. Made reservations month in advance for my birthday and then sat us outdoors by the bathroom. Threw parmesean on my friend. And put a tip on my card I didn't sign or authorize. They wouldn't give me a refund. When I tried talking to them on the phone about my experience they hung up on me. Plus the food was way over priced and not that good. Better food at olive garden and better service at McDonald's. Do not waste your time. F- this place.

TLDR: racist rude staff and mediocre food for a ridiculous price I hate to leave a bad review but I feel very strongly about this particular one. From the moment we walked in, I got an uneasy feeling. The host was curt, short with us, didn’t feel nice. But whatever I shrugged it off. We got seated and were waiting for two more from our party who were running late. We asked to order some appetizers and the waiter made a big fuss about taking the appetizers separately from the order. He seemed like he was talking down to us. My friend recounted how when he asked a staff member for the restroom, the staff member looked up down at his clothes with a sneer. The whole time the staff just seemed rude and cold. They took forever to take our order and purposely seemed to spill water when serving us. It just seemed like a bizarre situation at first but comparing ourselves to the other tables of ALL white patrons, we quickly realized the staff and waiters were being gorgeously kind and nice to everyone else. My friend asked the prices for a glass of wine. This is because the wine prices are not written on the wine list on the back of the menu. The waiter just rolled his eyes and said we don’t say the prices. The final straw was when our main course came and I asked the waiter for a knife. He squinted at me and I repeated myself politely, slightly louder. He said “I can’t hear you” and then WALKED AWAY. I raised my voice and said “I would like a knife please.” He turned around and grabbed a knife and handed it to me. It wasn’t like he was holding something or in the middle of something else. He just clearly wanted to be rude. Guess what? The main course he had brought me was not even what I had ordered. At this point I had half a mind to not tip 20% but my friends didn’t want them to fulfill the prophecy of a person of color being cheap so we did tip. I walked out absolutely fuming. I wish I could chalk it up to the waiter having a bad day or just weird perceptual vibes but this is the first time I’m confident that this place was just genuinely racist or classist or whatever. Our party was polite, quiet, and didn’t even demand anything out of the ordinary. The place wasn’t even that crowded. Not to mention the food was below average for such an expensive place.

Food was good but rude service last night. After receiving poor service the waiter asked us to tip more. We explained that it wasn’t good. Apart from him questioning everything we wanted to order, he also just made the experience uncomfortable. We had to keep getting his attention to order anything even paying the check. What he didn’t know is that I’m also bilingual and understood every word he said about us to the table directly next to us. Which were his friends. When we got up to leave I said to the hostess to let him know if he’s going to talk about the customers in another language he should do it more privately or not at all! Even worse her response was, “trash talking is his thing. It’s part of the gag”
