Highly recommend for Californian/Mexican cuisine. Chicken burrito and chicken fajitas are delicious. I’ve heard the quesadilla is great too. And of course they are well known for their margaritas. Service is excellent, food is delicious, and prices are very reasonable.

Visited a Tex-Mex spot in L.A. and had such a great experience. The staff were really welcoming and made the visit feel comfortable from the start. I ordered the Mexican salad, and it was delicious, fresh and flavorful. Overall, a great place with tasty food and warm vibes.

An amazing atmosphere, providing a nostalgic feel along with delicious contemporary TexMex cuisine. And do not miss the sizzling apple pie dessert. I’ve had dreams about it. It’s so good.

All four in our group enjoyed our meals & the service was great. The chairs in the restaurant are way too large and create a bit of gridlock.

Has been a long time favorite was closed for about 5 years. Just reopened, probably about a month or so. The food was Great. As I remember. The service was amazing. The atmosphere was great as always great place to go. And hang out for drinks and have a good time. !!!!![ Marix Tex Mex, stayed with their OG prices on their food menu & their drinks, That is super AMAZING, keeping OG value and not raising the $$$]!!!!! (Great value and Great food. Amazing service.)

Matrix Tex Mex Cafe in Los Angeles absolutely won us over. The atmosphere was fun from the moment we walked in. The music was fire, the whole place had great energy, and the murals on the walls made everything feel lively and creative. It’s the kind of spot where you instantly feel like you picked the right restaurant. The food was just as impressive. Huge portions, tons of flavor, and an amazing selection that truly has something for everyone. Whether you’re picky, adventurous, or somewhere in between, you’re going to find a plate you love. But the real MVP of the night was our server, Bobby. He was warm, attentive, and somehow made us feel like longtime regulars within minutes. He treated my teens like actual adults (a rare skill, honestly) and made the whole experience even better. Great vibe, great food, great people. Matrix Tex Mex is absolutely worth a visit.

Wonderful Ahi Tuna + grains salad. Beautifully prepared, seared tuna. Terrific combo of flavors with guacamole, pistachios and more. Burrito was also very good. Top shelf skinny margarita hit the spot!

Delicious Mexican cuisine and Margaritas. Cozy seating with attentive servers. Fair prices.

Thank goodness for open air seating and delicious food that really has gotten better than before it closed 😋 Seems like it's much healthier and less greasy than I remember! One thing, I assumed everyone in the waiters world would know what "going Dutch" means. But they don't, so much for assuming. It was a learning experience that I was so grateful to be the instructor! Loll GREAT TIME and nice people, with accurate and fast service!

It’s so nice to be back in the WeHo I remembered! I had a fun time here. The drinks, food, and the energy in the atmosphere is great! The prices haven’t changed and neither has the food! I will definitely be coming back for another fun outing!

This place was absolutely amazing! The food was stellar and so was the server! He was so prompt and made our dining experience seamless! Our only major turnoff to the place was the host… he was dismissive and unfriendly and super rude even when we were trying to be super nice to him. Despite this threshold guardian it was an amazing experience apart from that, we almost left because of him but we’re glad we stayed!

Marix opened in 1984. I was a senior at the University of Southern California, president of my fraternity and much younger. And yes, I was there opening night in 1984. Marix would be my watering hole for the next 30+ years. I would visit the popular eatery during my 10 years working the week of the annual Academy Awards. When it closed in March 2020 due to the pandemic, part of me closed with it. So on this August 8, 2025 night, I stopped by after work. Marix suddenly surprised everyone by re-opening July 8. Sadly, the entire original staff of the restaurant from 2020 has been replaced by a cadre of young 20-something’s who are adorned with red polo shirts and black pants. It’s a homogenized look that seems out of place with the restaurant’s storied history in West Hollywood. And for some bizarre reason, the ownership has redecorated the interior with acrylic-looking yellow table tops that look like they were once final sales items at IKEA. Very odd. They replaced tables and chairs that were iconic — weathered wooden tables and matching chairs that once saw Jennifer Aniston enjoying a margarita back in the day. Sometimes change isn’t always the best, but we learn to adapt even when that change is incomprehensible. The Tex-Mex inspired menu is still strong as ever. Its famed fajitas are passing by me, steaming and sizzling as I remembered them. But on this August night, the restaurant was so busy and its staff seemed so overwhelmed, I was forced to stand near its bar, opting for its complimentary chips and salsa. The margaritas are just as I remembered— refreshing and packing a serious punch. I waited for over an hour for my order of a pitcher of margaritas. When it never materialized, I asked an extremely nice bar back to downsize my initial order to a single glass of a margarita. (Marix is still experiencing growing pains so one must force one’s self to be patient. That’s what decent patrons do.) My margarita came to me within one minute. Now, that’s service! (I tipped the bar back $5 for his help, and $10 to my server.) The patrons are the new face of Weho — young, white and ready to spend their trust fund money as they cut loose on this particular Friday night. The vibe is strong, loose and extremely positive. Marix doesn’t open until 5p, and that maximizes the rush to snag a table. They do not accept reservations. Marix Tex-Mex is a must destination for locals and visitors alike. Do yourself a favor and visit a West Hollywood landmark, Marix Tex-Mex.

GAYEST RESTAURANT IN WEHO!! The crowd really makes this place. Great food. The best “fresh watermelon” margaritas, Santa Fe chop salad and of course taco Tuesday!! Great prices! Perfect place to eat before hitting the Rainbow District Bars and clubs!!

This beloved neighborhood bar is back! Serving its classic margarita by the pitcher and comforting Tex-Mex favorites. For a lot of folks, this place holds lots of memories so many are glad that it’s back! The space is small and they don’t take reservations so you will most likely have to wait a bit. Since it’s newly reopened, we got there around 5:45 and didn’t get seated until about 7 for a party of 5. All was good because we were at the bar drinking margaritas in the meantime. I got the Steak Fajitas and they came out on a sizzling hot plate. Also recommend getting the Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream dessert! It also comes out sizzling with delicious caramel all around!!

I somehow never knew about this place, despite living in West Hollywood for 15 years. I think it’s a very pleasant, reasonably priced tex mex place for a chill dinner. Nothing is particularly notable, but the food is pretty good, the service was very nice, and I appreciated the reasonably priced drinks. I think a couple of improvements could really take this place to the next level: more upbeat music, more appropriate tex mex decor. But all in all, a pretty solid experience.

Excited they finally reopened & seems like the whole neighborhood was just as eager to welcome them back since they were packed 20 mins into their opening time. Host with the glasses was super welcoming & remembered my name amongst the many other queens who all showed up and were put on a waitlist. Bartenders were slammed making all them fresh margaritas we all remember and love but did a great job. And our server with the curly hair was super friendly. Only gripe is the older, bitter queen who seems to be the owner of sorts who just stands in the corner, very unwelcoming and see him barking at his employees who all seem to be doing their very best. He's of no help & just stands there like a salty guard overlooking everything. There are two other managers who seem to be hands on with their employees but not that one. You'll definitely see him and his snobby face. Besides that, Marix is back! Keep up the good work boys, we've missed you!

Delicious food and drinks, just like old times! Service was friendly and very attentive. They did over-charge us for drinks we never ordered, and didn’t realize it until after we paid. We just let it slide as it’s their first week open and I’m sure they are working out the kinks. But other than that, it was great and we’ll be back!

First time visiting this West Hollywood staple and we were so excited to finally experience a piece of local history and the vibe everyone talks about. Service was super prompt and friendly, and I can confirm this is still one of the gayest spots in town; and I mean that in the best way possible. The chips and salsa were a cute touch, but the salsa honestly just tasted like tomatoes with a sprinkle of salt. The Short Rib Taco plate had one saving grace, the chile de árbol salsa, which was actually delicious. The short rib itself was dry and definitely seemed like it had been shredded in a stand mixer. Edible, but not something I’d order again. We also tried the carnitas tacos, which broke my date’s heart with how dry they were. Served with raw diced red onion, which just felt out of place. Overall, it’s probably a great spot for beers and catching up with friends, but if you’re coming for the food, it’s a miss. I really hope they tighten up the quality because this place has so much heart and history behind it.

I am a long time regular of merits back to 1985. It blows me away that They are not open in the daytime, especially on the weekends. That’s just mind blowing to me the business that they are turning away and then the fact whoever made the decision to put tables in the bar area is just plain stupid. Don’t you know that’s where everyone likes to congregate and drink picture after picture of margaritas and socialize. Putting tables in the party is just plain stupid

Don't go here if you know what good Tex Mex is. As someone from Texas, this food was not good. We got queso (BAD) and guac (good enough), fajitas that were dry and flavorless and short rib tacos that were subpar. Prices were great for LA but l'd rather pay a bit more for better food. The house margs weren't the worst but do NOT get a frozen strawberry marg unless you like slightly flavored half melted slushies. Atmosphere is awesome just not enough room for all the tables and people in there. Wish I had better things to say, I really wanted to love this place! Update 10/11 with response to owner: Hey I’m glad to hear all that! And I do hope you guys continue to serve for another 41 years. I can always Appreciate great service and great business ownership. Just had to do my duty as a patron who had an opinion! That’s what the review system is for after all. It’s all love and I wish you guys many many years to come!

Went recently visited to try the reopened version. Same look. Food was fair. Margaritas were good. Nice servers but was served the wrong dish initially. The wait time for food was very long (over 25 minutes). The reason for the 2 star review and not 3 stars was the poor attitude of the manager on duty and his disrespect. We waited for a table of 4 and there were 3 of us while we waited for our friend to arrive. One in our party knew the manager but that did not seem to affect his behavior. The manager said to us that it is a policy that he could not sit 3 people at a 4 top, so he squeezed us into a corner table that fit 3 while we waited for our friend to arrive (which when he did, he was squeezed into the table.) OK fine...that's the "policy". We can respect that. However, the guests in front of us were 3 people, and we saw that they were sat at a 4 top. Then, we noticed the guests in line behind us were 3 people and they were sat at another 4 top! At that point, we wondered what was going on. The person in our party who knew the manager politely asked whether we could sit at a 4 top. The manager restated the policy and when he was told that he just sat 2 tables of 3 at two 4 tops, he just smiled with no response. It appeared that the manager's disrespect was intentional. If you are not going to abide by the policy and not treat all guests fairly, then eliminate the policy for all guests. At least show some respect for the guest by acknowledging him, and better yet try to rectify the situation. I have worked in restaurants and understand the importance of respecting guests. Apparently, this manager has much to learn about guest service and respect.

I'm extremely disappointed by our experience. The manager refused to seat us in the dining room because I was accompanied by my well-trained, legitimate service animal. Instead, he insisted that we sit outside on the patio. This is unlawful and unacceptable. I provided documentation, yet he continued to claim that the "health department requires service animals to be outside," which is simply not factual. Businesses are required to allow service animals in dining areas under federal law. i’m told by the manager Mark that the owner doesn’t care whether the animal is a service animal or not they classify all dogs as emotional support and insists that you sit outside which today it was cold and uncomfortable. We ultimately chose to leave and spend our money elsewhere. Discrimination is not cute, and it certainly isn't good customer service. A restaurant could deny a emotional support animal or pet, but they must not deny a service animal. And my service animal is trained and well behaved, and there was no reason for this. I hope management takes the time to educate their staff on ADA compliance so this doesn't happen to someone else. they say they follow ADA laws in person they say they follow the health department and will not allow a legitimate service animal in the restaurant.

I went to Marix last week. I had been there previously that week with a friend and ordered tacos but as lettuce wraps for diet reasons. When I went back the second time and placed the same order, the waiter came back to the table to inform me that although they would fullfill my order that night, if I ever came back to ask for the simple substitution of tortilla for lettuce, they would deny my request. I was a bit taken aback for a couple of reasons. First, it is merely a substitution of a tortilla for a piece of lettuce. I am not eating MORE food. Have I missed something and there's a shortage of lettuce on the market? I would be willing to pay a higher price if needed. Second, telling me in advance that I would be denied the next time seemed unnecessary and the tone was almost as though I had done something wrong by asking for a subsitution. I didn't appreciate the message or the tone so I said I would be happy to speak with someone about it. I was then informed that this was coming from the manager. I was also told that I could just order the taco meat on a plate. Imagine that visual of loose meat plopped in front of you. Hardly appetizing. Prior to the pandemic, there was never an issue with ordering the lettuce cup tacos. Never. Marix closed when other restaurants stayed open for take out and delivery during the pandemic. This is a restaurant that has had a very loyal customer base in the community. We've been there for them but they haven't always been there for us. Five years later, they reopen and as a community we have stuck by them and are showing up. If you have a customer who has been coming for years and remained loyal even during your five year hiatus, just make the accomodation. It's such a small issue but can really leave a bad taste in someone's mouth. I am going to take a break from going back there for a few months until they can work out the growing pains and kinks from reopening. My message to the management at Marix: go back to being what Marix used to be. Remove the tables from the bar area, be flexible with patrons if they want a substitution, be nice to the community... and season your meat. Sorry to say but it's bland.
