Sam's of Gedney Way

We have gone to Sam's for years - from date nights to larger family (including children) events. Most recently, we celebrated a family milestone birthday at Sam's and could not have been happier with how it went. Nick, May and Annie were excellent in making it a very special dinner with excellent food, service and atmosphere. We had the ribs, wings and cauliflower pizza appetizers. For our main courses, the surf and turf special, salmon, Sam-burger and Chicken Paillard were especially tasty. Walt B at the bar also made us some amazing drinks! I highly recommend Sam's and look forward to going back again soon!!

Sam’s of Gedney Way is unique in many ways. The owner, Peter Herrero is always present, welcoming guests, making sure everyone is enjoying their meals. The service staff have all worked there for many years and clearly take pride in the quality of the food that they serve. When you look around at the other guests, they range from professionals in their twenties to folks who might be retired, but everyone seems to be returning customers ( like us)! For the last few months, Sam’s had been offering Takeout meals but they are now serving dinner on their open air terrace and they have created a BBQ restaurant in their parking lot complete with live music Wednesdays through Sundays . All the waiters are masked and gloved but most importantly, the food at Sam’s of Gedney Way is consistently excellent! My wife and I often split their Samburger and a salad and we always leave happy. Last year my wife arranged for a surprise birthday party for me and the food was superb! And last night, I booked a reservation using Open Table and under special requests, asked for a slice of cake for my wife’s birthday. I wasn’t sure if they’d read the note but instead of gettingnour bill, the waiter brought out a beautifully decorated cake with a lit candle. It really was a perfect way to celebrate and the price was right!

Hidden Gem of White Plains! The food was amazing. The staff was so friendly and eager to answer questions. The chef's skills are top notch. Below are two examples of appetizers. Substitution and special requests are no problem here.

I hosted a Bridal Shower Brunch at Sam's of Gender Way and I had an amazing experience from planning to day of. I called around to a few venues for details about this bridal shower and they were the most transparent and clear about the entire cost, the minimums for each room, and what the brunch service would entail. Once I was ready to book with them, putting down a deposit and reserving the time was the easiest thing ever. I worked with Karen to arrange the event. She took note of the food restrictions I knew of, and told me to call back if I found out anything else. As the date got closer, I'll admit, my Type-A self got a little paranoid that something was going to go wrong because it was *too easy* to work with them. My day job involves events, so I'm used to restaurants losing little details here and there. I finally called up to double-check everything, and Karen let me know all the information they had down--which was completely correct and I felt at ease. On the day of, they let my friends in early to decorate, but the patio area was already beautifully decorated with paper lanterns and flowers. We really only added the touches that literally said "Bridal Shower" because everything else was so beautiful (see photos). Once the event began, Alberto took care of us. He paid special attention to the bride, but we were all surprised that with just one waiter, our 30 mimosa glasses were never empty. We did a family-style brunch and each tray had plenty of food. Alberto checked in with me multiple times during the event to make sure everything was okay. After the party was over, multiple members of my family remarked that we should do future events like this here. It was my family's first experience at Sam's, and we were beyond impressed. The service was excellent, the attention to detail was great, and the price-for-value ratio was amazing. I completely recommend Sam's for private events--and request Alberto!

Can’t recommend this place enough, we used Hathaway Hall for our rehearsal dinner. The food was AMAZING, the staff were super attentive and kind, and we had such a perfect night.

Came here for a rehearsal dinner. All of the food was delicious and the outdoor patio was beautiful! Online menu was underwhelming but the whole place was beautiful! Delicious American food and awesome staff who went above and beyond to serve their guests!

Good is excellent. Prime rib special is delicious as is the burger, the steak sandwich is yummy. Good fries. The bartender is great.

We had a birthday dinner for my husband this past weekend at Sam’s. My expectations were surpassed! The food was great and the service was incredible. A special thanks to May and Juliana for making sure we had a wonderful experience. Thank you!! I would highly recommend having any special event here!

I came to this restaurant for my birthday, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Being too full for a desert, our server had brought me my port wine on a plate that said happy birthday and had stuck a candle to the plate. Outside of this, he was attentive, efficient and friendly. The restaurant was quiet, lighting was perfect, not too bright, not too dark. If you're noticing I haven't mentioned the food, it's only because of how outstanding the service and atmosphere were. The food was also phenomenal, I ordered a barbecue platter that was cooked wonderfully, each piece of meat was cooked well and served at the right temperature, and there was no drop in quality on the sides. It's no wonder to me why this place has been around for so long, a wonderful restaurant that I will definitely be returning to. A great spot for an intimate dinner with family friends or a date. Great cocktails too.

Food was excellent. Traditional fare with a few exceptions. I liked the new dining room look. The ambiance is casual but elegant; fine for a family dinner or a special evening. There are less expensive options that looked good. I had the steak frites and enjoyed it very much.

Lots of history here. Food and service are excellent, prices fair, most days of the week have specials. Comfortable private rooms, free parking lot in the back. WE'LL BE BACK! ;) Fast forward a few months... Had a hankering for a prime rib roast, you know, the juicy bloody kind (or medium)... Smith and Wollensky is not exactly in the neighborhood, but Sam's is! Prime Rib Roast Saturday. Go find a decent, or any, prime rib these days anywhere! This one was excellent. The other outstanding dish was the French Onion Soup. As l've said to the folks at the restaurant - coming back from France a few weeks ago, Sam's soup was better than any FO soup there. The rest of the menu, the service, the parking, the atmosphere... we are lucky to have this 100 year old gem here! Peter or Karen for mayor (and president, please)!! I'LL BE BACK!

Our first time at Sam's of Gedney Way was simply marvelous. We celebrated my husband's birthday last night. We got there on the earlier side and we immediately greeted with warmth and smiles. We had a lovely red wine to accompany our delicious food. The Restaurant Week menu also looked amazing. Although our party did not have room for dessert we did have Irish and Mexican coffees which was the perfect nightcap to close out the celebration. Thank you Sam's for a fabulous night!!

We just had a baby shower at Sam’s and we were so pleased with our experience!! The food, atmosphere and service were perfect- we were so happy and it exceeded our expectations. We had a brunch on the patio which was decorated so nicely already- we loved the ambiance with the lanterns, bistro lights and fall decorations. We just brought a few baby themed decorations it was very easy. The brunch itself was delicious! Our guests loved the food and the mimosas and mocktails! The service was amazing. Mae, our server really added to our day. She was so kind, friendly, helpful and excellent in every way. Karen, Nick and Peter were so wonderful to work with in helping to prepare for the event and Nick in managing the day of - they were so kind, informative and accommodating. You can tell they have this down to a science! They are great at what they do and so personable too. Everything went so smoothly the day of, we couldn’t be happier. Do not hesitate to have a shower or event at Sam’s!! Thank you so much Mae, Karen, Nick and Peter!

Went there for the first time in a long time last night. Have to say it was excellent. Don’t know why I have them back sooner, but I’m gonna put it on my regular rotation of restaurants to go to. It’s a nice neighborhood place and it was absolutely delicious.The service was good. The food was good. The restaurant was remodeled and looks very pretty and I had a good time. Everyone should definitely go check this one out.

We hosted a baby shower event there and everything was excellent. Peter and Karen were easy to communicate with and took all our requests for food accommodations very seriously. They met our needs for the event and made everything smooth for us. The food was so fresh and excellent--all our guests complimented it. The outdoor patio was beautifully decorated and did not require us to put too many additional decorations. The staff the day of was very kind and professional. The only downside the day of was the weather being too hot and humid, but that was outside of anyone's control. The outdoor patio did have a lot of fans, but it wasn't enough to beat the intense heat. Overall though the service, food, and everything else was above and beyond and I highly recommend this restaurant for hosting future events.

Exceptional is what comes to mind! Met a dear friend I haven't seen in a year for brunch on a weekday; the dining experience just heightened our time together. Thoughtfulness is another word, in every detail from every aspect of service beginning with our Hostess that greeted and sat us. Mae our Server/ Waitress was very kind and attentive. The food. They have a very nice and very reasonable Pre Fixe lunch menu. Listen, all I can say is elevated!! Delious and very thoughtful! I don't need to describe each dish, trust and yes you should go! I have been here once a year the last 3 years, just gets better. Thank you for a memorable experience with my friend.

The food was very good and the menu had a great selection. I had trouble deciding what to get. The service was great and our server Lisa was hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed what I got, but will go back and try something else. Everyone in our group really enjoyed the meal!

I had an amazing party for my 50th birthday recently at Sam’s. It was a cocktail-style party in the Gedney Room, which is in the front of the restaurant across from the fireplace and bar. The sliding glass doors made it a fun, private affair for about 25 of us—thank goodness because some of the stories told during the toasts were not appropriate in a public setting! The food was outstanding. We had 3 courses with the food set out beautifully on a buffet, and some tables for people to sit at. My favorite dishes were the popcorn shrimp, cauliflower truffle pizza, meatballs with Sunday gravy, and lemon chicken piccata. They also let us bring in a custom cake from a bakery. The waitstaff was very attentive taking drink orders and replenishing the food. A truly special night that I'll always cherish.

The best food in Westchester and all of CT. I cannot believe we only found this amazing place today. The food is fresh, creative, and flavorful. Not to mention reasonably priced. Everyone in the place came over and introduced themselves … even the patrons at the bar. Amazing. The draft selection is great. The cocktail hour was vet the top for both the food and drinks. Just get here … you will love everything about Sam’s of Gedney Way. The owner served the food and checked in with us a few times to make sure everything was to our liking. The staff was so friendly and attentive to everyone. We had the Yucca fries , maple wings, chicken with Gruyère sandwiche and chicken pot pie…. All of it was delicious and full of flavor. And they have brunch in Saturday and Sunday! Can’t wait to try it. This is our new “go to” for sure. ❤️

Fantastic spot!! Ive been eating here for over 30 years! Growing up in the Highlands neighborhood, Sams is a staple. I have not only had more dinners than I can count but I also hosted a private dinner in one of their private areas. This restaurant is certainly sentimental to me but over those 30+ years of eating here, it never felt out dated so they managed to keep up with the times. I recently had what was my first brunch here which was delicious. Pricewise, I have to say this is not inexpensive but it suits what they provide. They have unique options on the menu, including duck, some seafood, fish, and lamb. They also have dishes that are a little more simple and basic (but done wonderfully!), such as a burger, fries, a chicken sandwich. I think its this varied menu that has always made Sams a go-to for my family, because it had options to suit younger ones and more mature options for a slightly adventurous eater. I would recommend making reservations. In terms of the amount of people in your group, my experience has been that they can serve & provide for both small and large groups. I will be eating here for the next 30 years, as long as it (and me!) are still here!

Our family enjoyed a wonderful buffet style meal at Sam's following a family funeral yesterday. The staff went above and beyond to assist and look after our group of about 40 people, including several dietary requirements. It was a huge comfort to have been looked after so well given the somber occasion. Thank you to all concerned.

Have eaten here and had a private birthday event. Every single time the service, food and atmosphere are incredible. Karen and Nick were wonderful to work with to plan the event. Everything was amazing. The food and options are endless and always on point. The staff there is top tier. Love this place!

hosted my cousins bridal shower & it was amazing! everything turned out so well. We had her shower in the open window room at the very front & it was a beautiful day. Nick the manager was very helpful, Lupe the server was AMAZING. Everyone took such great care of us! Will definitely be back, thank you all very much :)

I was at a lunch event yesterday at Sam's celebrating a friend’s birthday where the meal was served family style. I have a serious food allergy and shared it with the team, and Chef Robb went out of his way to create a delicious, safe meal just for me. It was truly above-and-beyond hospitality!!! I’d give them six stars if I could!

I recently hosted a baby shower at Sam's of Gedney, and I’m so glad I chose this venue! From start to finish, Dana was incredibly helpful and accommodating, making the entire planning process seamless. Our server, May, was absolutely amazing—attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The setup and table settings were beautiful, and the food was top-notch—everyone was raving about it. Sam’s truly exceeded our expectations in every way. I’ll definitely be returning, not only for future events but also just to enjoy brunch. Highly recommend!

Excellent food! Went to the restaurant for a lunch meeting. The service was great, the staff was pleasant and attentive. This is a great place to have a business lunch. I plan to go back for the brunch! The prices were reasonable.

Sam's was lovely! We were excited to celebrate the graduation of participants from the JumpStart for Dads fatherhood support course, and Sam's helped the event succeed. The food was excellent, staff attentive, and the venue had everything we needed. They were very accommodating to the needs of our event and had everything set up perfectly. Hopefully we will be back soon for a similar event!

Sam's of Gedney Way has been a local restaurant since 1932. Multiple generations of my family have eaten here. Good food, good service. We have never had a bad meal over the decades of eating here. Highly recommend stopping by for a great meal.

When my bf asked if I wanted to go to this pub on st patrick’s day weekend for brunch this was not what I expected. This place is beautiful inside! They had specific st patrick’s day specials that we were interested in. We tried to order the Corned Beef Reuben Spring Rolls but they were out of them. A bummer, and he suggested a few other options for appetizers that I couldn’t fully hear and also couldn’t find anywhere on the menu so maybe we somehow didn’t see the whole menu?? My bf got the Ruben sandwich and I got the chicken schnitzel sandwich. Both with fries and both were delicious! I also got the peach tea cocktail which I didn’t like. My bf got the black and tan and enjoyed it. The server was friendly enough. He didn’t really come around much which was fine, but the food took 30 mins to come out. So I didn’t love that. We were watching the food other people ordered come out and they had some very interesting things so I’d definitely want to come back to try the stuffed French toast specifically. I just won’t come too hungry!

The food was OKay, drinks were average. The atmosphere was nice and had a classier feel. The popcorn shrimp appetizer was really good though.

This was my first time visiting the restaurant. We were warmly greeted. I went there for lunch and seated right away. The place wasn't too crowded. I sat at the booth. I ordered the cheddar burger with fries. It was delicious and I especially liked the onions.😋 I would visit this restaurant in the future. The restaurant has a parking lot so you don't need to park on the street.

Been a while since I had a good dining experience at a restaurant. Came here last night to celebrate my partners birthday and it was excellent. Small plates/appetizers came out hot and were good. We usually are never interested in ordering appetizers. But there was a pretty decent variety on the menu. Nick, the server, was great and attentive. Rest of the staff seemed professional. Service was fast. Hardly any wait for the food. Entrees were hot and came out quickly after appetizers were cleared. Overall a great experience. Would come again!

Very nice ambiance and a terrific menu. A good value for a special occasion.

So disappointed arrived at 4:15 maybe the problem 1 small table food came out while not finished crowded table potpie and soup same thing except cream added to potpie crust delicious. Soup watery no rice. Best thing was pretzels.

Wanted to try a new restaurant, unfortunately the meal was hit or miss. Starter: Brussel sprouts - actually pretty good. Drinks: Very underwhelming - they charge craft drink prices for fancy sounding, mostly weak and bland drinks, including a $25 margarita that was like a $10 one. Exception was the Vodka pomegranate drink which was decent. Mains: Beef bourguignon - Pretty good actually. Second one was the prime rib. It was a gigantic piece of meat and I got the last one, the end piece which I imagined would be full of flavor, it wasn't. Firstly, it was supposed to be crusted with something, again, it wasn't. It was just a huge piece of flavorless meat covered in some thin onion gravy. Also, it was lukewarm as well. The sides served were good but the green beans lacked flavor. Yes, I probably should have brought this to my servers attention (good service BTW), but I hate sending food back. Atmosphere: Okay I guess. There's a couple of paintings there of the bar with several representations of celebrities in the painting. You'll have a maddening time trying to figure out who's who in them. Once you look at the legend, you'll wonder if the artist had ever seen a photo of who they painted. Maybe I sound harsh, but that prime rim was aggressively bad. Although the Beef bourguignon and sides were decent, I doubt that I'll return.

Review for Sam’s of Gedney Way I’ve always heard great things about this restaurant, but unfortunately my experience yesterday was very disappointing. My husband and I had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated, even though there were several empty tables available. When we were finally called, we were given a very small table tucked away in a corner. My husband is a tall man and needs more space, so I politely asked if we could move to a larger table. The hostess told us no, even though I could clearly see other open tables. It really affected the whole dining experience. We expected better service from a restaurant with such a good reputation. Sadly, this visit didn’t meet our expectations.

This place had better days for sure. It declined big time. Everything from the tables that lost their white tablecloth, to the extremely slow service to the food. Everything we had was bland and less than mediocre. Lacking seasoning, and presentation. Even the dessert menu that we thought would be the savior of the night changed. None of the classic delicious desserts. Very sad and disappointing. Not returning. The seated us in a corner and most likely forgot about us there, because we saw how the other tables had frequent servers and water refills and bread baskets while we had none of that. This is one of my previous visits review: We had dinner there for the first time. It was a group event. We enjoyed the service and the food so much. Waiters are very attentive and friendly. Food variety we found to be limited. We didn't like any of the desserts we ordered though. My dish was a special a grilled Mahi Mahi which was so delicious with asparagus and cherry tomatoes and green salad with watermelon vinaigrette, honestly one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. Bathroom is very clean and neat. Parking can be tricky, although they have on-site parking lot, but it was a weekday and full. Overall very positive experience. Will definitely come back again. I recommend reservation because it is very busy and I saw people turned away because the place was full and they only had space for reservations. Reserve a table and give it a try, hopefully they surve the same Mahi Mahi that day! And the drinks are great too!
