Really good! Elevated Americana food. The chicken sandwich is a banger (dare I say better than the burger). Highly recommend for brunch !
I would give Baldanza 10 stars if I could! It’s not everyday that a restaurant blows you away the way Baldanza did for us. First of all, it feels like you’re entering a Hallmark movie with how charming and quaint the schoolhouse is! We dined outside on the patio because it was a warm evening, and we loved that the train went by often during our meal, especially because trains have always been one of my fiancé’s interests. The service from the staff was truly exceptional, from the salad we were sharing being split between the two plates, the fresh bread selection tableside, and the attentiveness for water refills, just to name a few. Farm to table, fresh food is served here, with a focus on what’s in season on the menu for fall. I’m honestly still thinking about the butternut squash ravioli we had that night! Every dish was phenomenal, including the housemade desserts made by the owner. I want to return soon with my family, especially my mom, because this is totally her vibe! Such a refreshingly professional experience at Baldanza that you aren’t able to find just anywhere!
My wife, in-laws and I went to Baldanza at the Schoolhouse for dinner and had a wonderful time. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great. I really liked the atmosphere and how it was in a historic schoolhouse. I would definitely go again and giving Baldanza five out of five stars.
A truly incredible and intimate experience. Every dish was stellar!! The staff went above and beyond to accommodate and make us feel welcome. We are coming back for brunch soon :-)
This restaurant is in a ye olde schoolhouse AND they have Maple Old-Fashioneds - it was always unlikely this was going to be anything less than a five-star experience. I came here with my mom yesterday for lunch. She grew up in this area and was familiar with the building (she thinks it was a real estate office when she was growing up) and the little shops surrounding it. I had a few friends recommend this place over the past few years, and I attempted unsuccessfully to secure a table for Mother's Day last year (which reminds me - this is probably right around when I need to start looking into that again). I bet in two months or so this area is just gorgeous. The windows to the right of the entrance where we sat overlooked the Norwalk River, and even in these desolate New England times, it was a pleasing visual. I strongly considered the Eggs Benedict option, but I've been loading up on that a lot later and went lunchier with the Pappardelle Bolognese, one of my all-time favorite Italian dishes. Delicious and a very generous portion (not that it mattered - it was all demolished). I loved the plate that it came in, which had some depth to it verging on bowl-like. I might have to start prowling around Williams Sonoma trying to find one of its twins. My mother had the blueberry pancakes and was quite smitten with them - if memory serves, she was enormously pleased by the container that the maple syrup was delivered in, which was reminiscent of a mini milk jug or something. The Maple Old Fashioned was as advertised. It wasn't on the official brunch menu, but the waiter teasingly confirmed it was available, saying he'd already had one earlier in the morning. Perfectly made, with the maple strong but not overwhelming; it actually came off for me as a pretty brunchy drink with the maple, but I'm not sure I want to go on the record advocating bourbon on a brunch menu, even in CT. As an aside, their bar area is adorable; it's a very small spot to the left in the entrance/foyer section with just enough room for the bartender and no one else. I'm impressed they had the foresight and creativity to even have a bar here given their limited space. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very personable (as alluded to earlier), and other staffers stopped by very regularly to keep the water glasses full. The whole experience was pleasant from beginning to end. I would have advocated for eating in a schoolhouse regardless, but the fact that the quality of the food and service matched if not exceeded the novelty factor of the surroundings is a massive bonus.
I cannot get over how ridiculously charming this place is, how insanely fresh and delicious all the food tastes and how wonderful the staff is (Ecuadorian brothers!). Baldanza redefines quaint country splendor and serves up a delightful array of locally sourced goodies. The beet salad was a standout (candied pistachios, anyone?) and even something as simple as my deconstructed tuna salad sandwich (I got it without the bread) was absolute perfection. The tomatoes were perhaps the Platonic ideal of a tomato 🍅 and the avocados literally melted in my mouth. I die. The rest of my brunch group raved about the summer salad, bacon egg and cheese entree, and burger. We split the tiramisu (yum) and carrot 🥕 cake for dessert and I am not at all ashamed to admit that I basically ate the entire slice of cake on my own because holy moly, that was made with love on site by a true craftswoman. The icing, which of course is the glue that holds the whole operation together, was indulgently creamy without being hideously sweet, which is where a lot of carrot cakes go wrong. Perfect frosting-to-cake ratio as well. Oh, and the margaritas brought us right back to Mexico. <Chef's kiss> Word has it they're going to plant a garden next season for hyper-locally sourced cuisine. 😭😍🌱 Now here's the important part: this is a brand-spanking-new restaurant so please, if you love great food and adorable out-of-the-way spots, take your wallet and go support these folks while also rewarding your discerning palate. And then patronize the shoppes next door (where I got amazing rooibos shortbread cookies afterwards 😱...which I somehow devoured on the drive home).
Fantastic spot. From the friendly people to the delicious food. Small charming building. Short but delicious cocktail list. All quite perfect. I've been twice..Once for dinner. Once for brunch. Both times the experience was great across the board. Looking forward to going back.
How do I give Baldanza ten stars???!! This place is nothing but absolutely INCREDIBLE. I cannot even begin to describe how much I love this restaurant with my whole heart. After having so many amazing experiences, I decided to have my birthday dinner here. The staff is so friendly and they always know just what you need! I have a nut allergy, and I always feel comfortable; for example, since the normal bread contains nuts, Mario brings me special bread from the back that is completely nut free! The food is also to die for - some of my favorites are the warm Brussels Caesar salad, the calamari, the pork chop, and the eggplant pasta. They also had flounder for a special dish one night and it was phenomenal - so lemony! Okay... I still haven't even gotten to my favorite part - the CARROT CAKE. OH MY GOSH. As someone who can't normally have carrot cake because it has walnuts, I am in LOVE. It is completely nut free, and my family was able to place a special order for an ENTIRE cake for my birthday. It was heaven. I ate half of it in one sitting. Please, PLEASE support this local business if you are in the area! I promise you won't be disappointed!! Thanks again Baldanza! :)
Exceptionally good. I visit often and have never had a bad experience. Food is exceptional, attention to customers is quite remarkable. Cozy atmosphere, perfect for any occasion. The view of the river is phenomenal.
I've eaten here for lunch and dinner, it's fantastic! The food is fresh, delicious, flavorful and well-prepared and presented. Try the fritto misto- fried calamari and shrimp with marinara and aioli, it's so good. The restaurant is small and nicely decorated. Service is excellent. It's my new favorite place to eat.
Another terrific meal at Baldanza. The food, cocktails and service are always top notch. I believe this is the best restaurant in Fairfield County and I've lived here for over 15 years. If you haven't been, I highly recommend. I'd suggest specific dishes but they're all incredible.
Amazing restaurant - food - staff - atmosphere all five stars. Now a top 100 on Open Table nationally! Great honor for them and well deserved.
Special venue with exceptional menu. Hosted a birthday brunch for 8. Staff was incredibly attentive and our meals were both plentiful and delicious. 👍👍 for the Ahi BLT.
Went for lunch. Had one of the best turkey sandwiches ever. Yum.
Greatest small eatery in Fairfield, no doubt.
We had a nice dinner here on a Saturday night. The food was so fresh, delish and the service was exceptional. It's a little noisy once the restaurant fills up, but worth it!
We had dinner here last night and the service and ambiance were exceptional. Very friendly and accommodating staff, and the pappardelle bolognese was delicious; would recommend!
Very unique and cosy restaurant. Food was good. Nice view from the window. Prices are on a high end. Food was presented beautifully.
One of my favorite places! The staff is kind and attentive and the food is fantastic.
Superb food - the best in Fairfield County - highly professional and attentive service and a beautiful setting. The Baldanzas at their best.
Great food. Have been a few times and enjoyed everything.
Perfect date night spot with or with out kids! Food is incredible and the location is beautiful! All the pastas are to die for!
Fantastic lunch spot! Food was delicious, service was excellent and setting was gorgeous.
A little gem in tiny Cannondale Village. Impeccable service combined with outstanding dishes in a charming setting. Checks all the boxes.
Fantastic for brunch and a lovely new rustic location. The staff is exceptional and the food is even better.
Very nice restaurant that's located by the river off Cannon rd in wilton. It's located in a very nice peaceful area and has indoor and outdoor seating.
Fantastic use of historical structures. The food is delicious and the environment is picturesque. I highly recommend this place.
Amazing!!! Fresh, delicious food, great staff! Delicious homemade desserts! Love love love
Lovely place with good service and ambiance. Desserts were very overpriced but everything else was reasonable and well prepared.
Excellent food, quite, and beautiful patio next to a moving river! Staff was also super friendly
Delightful ambiance, fabulous food, wonderful and all levels. A hidden gem.
The food was amazing and the owners Angela & Sandy couldn't be any nicer. A must eat at restaurant.
Beautiful setting, great service, food was fantastic. Perfect for date night.
Last night my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at this cozy culinary gem. From start to finish the entire experience was outstanding. 5 stars is not enough. The service is very attentive and respectful. The food is fantastic. We had the Calamari for our appetizer. It was a big hit, cooked perfectly and delicious. For our entrees we had the butternut squash ravioli and the tomahawk veal. Both were delicious, especially the veal. It literally melted in my mouth. We finished off this great dinner with the Lemon bar. It was absolutely delicious. We will return to this cozy restaurant very soon.
Five stars and they deserve everyone of them. Although a small location, this is the perfect place for Sunday brunch. Food, atmosphere and service were five star. We started with a Beet Salad, followed by Omelettes, Eggs Benedict, Grilled Cheese and order of Pancakes for the table. A most enjoyable Sunday brunch and highly recommended.
Moving to Wilton made finding the right restaurant a bit challenging. During my search, I discovered School House and was blown away by its beautiful and amazing atmosphere. The food there is incredibly delicious, but what stands out even more is the wonderful staff. They are some of the most amazing people, and they make every guest feel like a member of their family. When you walk in, they remember your name and make you feel at home. In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Wilton. I highly recommend that everyone visits and enjoys the food and atmosphere there.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We came for brunch and absolutely loved it. The soup of the day, white beans and escarole, was cozy and flavorful, and the croque monsieur was perfectly made, rich but not heavy. Everything is homemade and thoughtfully prepared. We finished with a brownie that was delicious too. A beautiful spot with incredible food and a welcoming vibe, we’ll definitely be back!
Okay folks, if you live anywhere near or even far and you want perfection, from ambience, to service to food, The School House is the place to go. If alfresco is your style, they have it, if quiet is your thing then it’s the library room and if you want a quiet and quaint room well just walk in and be seated. They have a plentiful selection of healthy drinks, breakfast specials and lunch options. Your first visit, I assure you won’t be your last! And a shout out to Lauro who is a consummate company employee and his service was impeccable!
Went for the first time for our anniversary dinner and already planning on returning! Amazing service and the food was incredible! The beet salad was plated so creatively and my pappardelle bolognese was just as amazing! They welcomed us with champagne to celebrate our occasion & a candle in our dessert was so sweet!! The atmosphere is quaint and charming. Looking forward to coming back!
The best calamari I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve been everywhere from Arthur Avenue to Vegas, etc. etc. etc… Fresh food delicious. Best dinner and dinner our service. The only problem was Sunday brunch, which was lackluster. Shocking, how great they could be but they really need to step up brunch. The home fries were not home fries, They were boiled potatoes in a pot. And they did not have half-and-half for your coffee. They had a bring out heavy whipping cream? They could’ve done so much more being how talented they are. But this is definitely one of my favorite places for dinner in Connecticut The coconut cake is delicious btw
Omg I love this place! The charming school house creates a quaint atmosphere. The drive is scenic, with opportunities to spot wildlife like deer. I came here tonight (Saturday), the experience was exceptional. We started with the beet salad, which was flavorful and well-prepared. The cranberry bread, served with tongs at the table, was a unique and delicious touch. The meatballs stood out as the best I’ve ever tasted, melting in the mouth. For our entrée, we shared the pappardelle pasta, which was divided into two bowls for convenience—a thoughtful gesture. The maple old-fashioned cocktails complemented the meal perfectly. The service was excellent, with a welcoming and attentive staff, even on a busy Saturday night. I highly recommend!!! I look forward to returning!! Ahhh so so good!
We enjoyed a lovely birthday dinner here. The tucked-away setting of the schoolhouse is quite idyllic as it overlooks a little stream which we were lucky to see from our table. The entire team was welcoming and accommodating, right from the beginning as they held the front door open for us and made suggestions throughout our meal. One of the owners came to our table on a few occasions to check in and she was incredibly gracious. Great atmosphere, food and drink, and people. A must visit.
Outstanding food. Nothing that came to our table was average. Everything was phenomenal. Definitely recommend this hidden gem. It is loud because it echoes from the walls so do keep that in mind. It'll be less of an issue one the warmer weather comes and you can dine outside. Update: January 2024 This is one of our regular places. The staff are amazing and the food is the best. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a special place with a cozy feel.
Amazing food & Service! A hidden gem, & absolutely lovely place. Made my birthday celebration with family perfect! Handmade pasta, ravioli, fresh fish.. everything we’ve had here has been excellent! Thank you!
Spectacular in every way. Beautiful peaceful location with great outdoor seating. The staff is fantastic; warm, knowledgeable, engaging, and fun. The menu is varied. The pace of service was delightful. The food was fantastic from salads to desserts. Everything was fresh, well presented, and delicious. Nice portion sizes too. One of the top place to dine in Fairfield county.
This was the first time we visited The Schoolhouse in its Baldazana incarnation, although pre-Covid we were regular visitors when the restaurant was run by Tim LaBant, and it was one of our favorites. It's good to see that many of the old staff are still there! Evidently The Schoolhouse is still very popular, especially amongst the ladies, and deservedly so. It was quite crowded for a lunchtime, and, being such a small dining room, that led to a rather noisy environment. I don't have any good suggestions for what management might do about that; had the weather been a bit cooler we would surely have taken lunch in the outdoor seating area, which is nicely situated next to the river. The wine list is decent and reasonably priced, with lots of good options at both higher and lower price ranges. The food is excellent and you will not go far wrong with any of the choices, although the menu is necessarily limited, given the small size of the kitchen. I particularly recommend the pappardelle bolognese and the Milanese crispy chicken sandwich. The Schoolhouse remains one of the relatively few restaurants at which it is worth saving room for dessert. Although the menu is limited and the choices offered appear standard, the brownie and the carrot cake are particularly well executed examples. I have the impression that the menu does not change seasonally and is rather fixed. That would be a pity; one of our biggest criticisms of restaurants in the area is that they don't change-up their menus more often, nor take advantage of the best locally available fare and change seasonally. We will see, for I am sure that we will be visiting again before very long.
The food is fantastic. I started with the tuna which was phenomenal and then had the rigatoni and meatballs. You can tell every element of that dish from the pasta to the sauce was freshly made. The service was great too. They’re very kind and attentive. My only criticism is it can get very loud in this relatively small/intimate space. My single recommendation to ownership/management would be to invest in some soundboards to help dissipate the noise level and allow for everyone to be able to have a good conversation. Just food for thought, Baldanza!
Very good Italian restaurant in a nice setting. The food, from appetizers to entrees is very good. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The pasta dishes are seasoned and are very tasty. The fish was cooked to perfection. A nice addition to Wilton/Cannondale.
Cute place. Food was good, too fancy. Felt rushed as we came in close to the end of lunch, we did have reservations which they could have denied. Their vegetarian burger was terrific!
We had a reservation for a party of five, but when we arrived, the restaurant seated us at a table for four. There was an empty table next to us, and the staff said it was reserved for a group that would arrive in five minutes, but no one showed up. We reminded them of our reservation and eventually, they combined the two tables. When our steak arrived, we had requested medium-well, but it was cooked to well-done and was tough to eat. We tried to be understanding and didn't complain immediately. However, when we paid our $58 for the steak, I mentioned the issue to the host. Instead of apologizing, he laughed and said that since we ate most of the steak, we must have enjoyed it. His attitude was unprofessional and dismissive. We were very disappointed, especially given the restaurant's good reviews. The service and food quality didn't meet our expectations at all!!
