The braised cabbage is delish! We tried the brisket, the turkey, the hatch chile sausage, and the pork belly. All were 10/10. The green beans were fine, but go for the braised cabbage as your veggie. You won’t regret it. 😉
We drove over an hour to get here and it was well worth it. Excellent brisket and sausage. The green beans, cole slaw, and mac n cheese were delicious. My husband ate the cheesecake so fast I never saw him eat it. The prices were much better than what we are used to paying.
We really enjoyed a takeout lunch from JPs today! First time ordering, and met with very friendly service over the phone and at pickup. The food was great (chopped brisket sandwich, turkey sandwich, mac and cheese and slaw). I only wish the side portions were bigger--not a gripe, just enjoyed them! We both said we'd happily go again--and that's coming from (at least one) picky BBQ eater. I'd love to see this spot do well as they're in a great location and we'll set up for music and more. Nice job, JPs!
This is hands down the best BBQ I've had in a while!!!!! The prices are very reasonable too. We had the brisket, sausage, chopped brisket, potato salad and beans. The brisket was VERY MOIST! We ordered 2 lbs and got a mix of lean and moist. The sausage was delicious and the chopped was perfect on sandwiches. The beans had a ton of flavor and the potatoe salad was delicious (not too sweet, which I hate) We ate it for 2 days straight- the amount of food you get for the money is impressive. I really really hope JPs BBQ can make it at this location. Please support this restaurant because I want them to stick around for years to come!!
Stopped in on a Wednesday will visiting Wimberley. We have to say, one of the best BBQ joints we have eaten at, we have been to many! We had brisket and their homemade sausage along with the awesome cream corn, beans, baked mash potatoes and potato salad. Everything was on point and first rate. We had the opportunity to meet the owner and he made us feel at home. If you skip this place while in town, it will be your loss!
This is a fantastic bbq restaurant. Earlier in the week I placed an order for Stonewater Fellowship Church for 125 people to be picked up on Sunday morning. The ordering was easy. Everyone was super friendly and advised us on the choices and on serving portions. Got there at 10:25 am Sunday morning and everything was hot and ready. We had 3 meats, brisket, sausage and chicken. 2 sides, potato salad and beans. Plus 3 different types of drinks and the fixings, plus bread. So many people were asking who cooked this! So many compliments . Wish I had had some of their business cards. And by the way .... the pricing was outstanding! They get 2 thumbs up!
Some of the best moist brisket I’ve ever had. Chopped bbq sandwich awesome as well.
It was very good! I love their pulled pork sandwiches they were really good and I also liked the sausage! Their mac'n cheese was also really good and it was delicious. The service is good and stuff and they have live music just not during lunch the last time I went there.
Mr. Josh friendly service and great food recommendations. Miss Lindsey's happy drink knowledge were the best!! Creamed corn & hatch Gouda cheese sausage was "chef's kiss"
We were just driving through and found this jewel by accident. This was the best BBQ we’ve ever had! The brisket is so moist and tender you can cut it with a fork, and the ribs were also moist and delicious. Yum!
Really tasty bbq and sides! I especially enjoyed the green beans and the brisket but it was all wonderful. To be honest I was surprised by how delicious it was! A lot better than some of the other bbq places I’ve tried.
Damn good BBQ! Everything was darn near perfect. Green beans and Mac and cheese were stupid awesome! Brisket wasn't fatty, ask for it if you want "moist" brisket.
Outstanding Food & People here. After a slight miscommunication on my To Go Order, Elijah stepped up to the Plate and made this customer extremely happy. Great Food, Great People!
I ordered 1/2 chicken barbecue it was very good. The 2 sides were very good, the cabbage and green beans it was delicious. I did try some sausage from my friend’s plate it was very good as well. I will try brisket next time. I’ll be bock soon for sure. The price was good. Thank you!!!
What a delightful surprise! My visit to JP’s Wimberley BBQ was nothing short of fantastic. Tucked away like a hidden gem, this place exceeded all expectations. The brisket and beef rib were melt-in-your-mouth tender and bursting with flavor, while the pork rib offered a delightful sweetness that left my taste buds dancing. Accompanying these savory delights was a side of fresh and crunchy coleslaw, the perfect complement to the rich meats. The option of indoor and outdoor seating added to the charm, allowing guests to enjoy their meal in a cozy atmosphere. But the icing on the cake? Free beer! Yes, you read that right. JP’s Wimberley BBQ goes above and beyond to ensure their guests have an unforgettable dining experience. In summary, JP’s Wimberley BBQ is a true hidden gem, offering exceptional barbecue, refreshing sides, welcoming ambiance, and even a complimentary brew. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and indulge in the culinary delights this establishment has to offer.
I would give more stars if I could. We placed a large order a head of time for a Sunday pick up and not only were they so friendly and helpful when I had forgotten to add sausage to my order, but the food is delicious. Seriously the best turkey I’ve ever had. The brisket was so tender and every side was great. Highly highly recommend!!
Finely made it Wimberley BBQ and I must say it's just as great as San Marcos bbq. They're both worth the drive from San Antonio. Their family special on Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday are awesome. Everything is fresh and delicious. Don't forget to try their desserts. Staff will go far and beyond to accommodate their customers.
The best ribs I've had in my life! I dont usually write reviews but I have to recommend this place! The food was amazing, the service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was beautiful!
The food here was excellent from start to finish. The barbecue brisket was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, and the chicken was just as delicious with great seasoning and texture. The mashed potatoes with gouda and cheddar cheese were rich and creamy, adding a unique twist that really stood out. The mac n cheese was outstanding — comforting, cheesy, and full of flavor. Even the iced tea was fresh and refreshing, which completed the meal nicely. If you’re looking for a great BBQ restaurant in Wimberley, Texas, this place is definitely worth visiting. The quality of the food, attention to detail, and overall experience make it a spot I would happily recommend and return to again.
This trip was specifically for a Valentine's Day hike and "BBQ crawl". JPs was amazing! The hatch chili gouda sausage is a must have! Ribs best we had in the area and brisket was tender! Fun bar area with 4-way table ring toss and bar swings. Lindsey was fun to chat with too! Fresh herb garden coming soon for drinks!
This was my first visit to JP’s Barbecue in Wimberley, Texas, and I was immediately impressed by the layout of the place. There’s a cozy mini dining room, a larger main dining area, and everything felt well thought out. The restrooms were impeccable. Outside, they offer plenty of seating, an outdoor bar, and even a stage for live music, which adds to the overall atmosphere. I had been craving barbecue, and a friend suggested we try JP’s. I ordered both the sliced brisket sandwich and the chopped brisket sandwich, along with a side of stewed cabbage. The chopped brisket sandwich was packed with flavor—the bark tasted excellent, with a subtle smokiness, and the meat was tender and juicy. The sliced brisket sandwich had the same great flavor and was served without barbecue sauce, allowing the meat to shine on its own. I did try their spicy barbecue sauce, which was very good—not overly sweet and with just the right amount of heat. My friend ordered the JP Plate, which came with a rib, sausage, brisket, and two sides. He chose fries and potato salad. The fries were fine, and he said the potato salad was okay as well. I’m a fan of good potato salad, and this one was average—not bad, but not memorable. Both the sweet and unsweetened iced tea were absolutely delicious. A cold cup of iced tea is a must with barbecue, and JP’s delivers on that. Overall, I’ll definitely be coming back. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. Thank you for having us. Yours truly, Hollenbeck to Nowhere
Delicious no frills barbecue. An excellent value for your money anywhere in the area. The pulled pork was phenomenal! The right amount of smokey and sweet! The beans were also perfect! Clean atmosphere, friendly staff and cute backyard area. Just around the corner from the busy Wimberley square, a quieter spot, away from all the traffic. We can not reccomend this spot enough!
Coming through town after a day of canoeing with my nephew, saw their reviews and decided to give them a chance, and it did not disappoint. We have eaten barbecue all over this great state, and that was literally some of it not the best barbecue we’ve ever had. And amazingly everything was good. The mac & cheese and the green beans were also outstanding. And lastly, staff were very nice and helpful as well. Just an all-around great experience.
First time here with the family. Josh was very helpful with our order. The food are delicious. I recommend the bbq tray Mac n cheese n mashed potatoes
We stopped at JPs BBQ based on other reviews. Had thr brisket, hatch sausage links, mac and cheese and creamed corn. The corn was the star of the show!! Not only was it creamy--it was divinely cheesy too! Id drive back there just for the corn, the rest is a bonus!!
My wife and I loved JP's BBQ. She had a sliced brisket sandwich and I had smoked turkey and 4 pork ribs. Everything was delicious and the service was great.
We loved everything about our dining experience at JPs! The entire staff was extremely attentive, welcoming, and friendly. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all very fresh and delicious! The Gouda sausage is SO good and the braised cabbage is excellent! The brisket, the turkey banana pudding and cobbler are all top notch! We love their outdoor bar area and they also have a great kids play scape!
so delicious?I end up getting the brisket and chicken plate cuz. They were out of ribs .And the brisket was soft
So I’ve lived in Wimberley going on 17 years and I’ve seen all manner of restaurants come and go. There’s many controversy in town about who’s bbq is better and quite frankly I like them both however I chose to eat at Wimberley bbq with my wife and the food was phenomenal. The ribs were falling off the bone and so tender. I had the Bobcat sandwich with has sliced brisket and turkey both were cooked to perfection. The brisket tacos were amazing, and my wife enjoyed topping them with the braised cabbage. The loaded mashed potatoes are a must have side topped with butter, cheese, and sausage. Dessert was pecan pie and a chocolate buttermilk pie and they certainly did not disappoint. Both were decadent and worth every bite.
We visited this place on a Saturday for lunch as it was a convenient halfway meeting spot for us and our grandkids. We chose it because of its great reviews and the swing set out back, which kept the kids entertained while we waited for our food. The restaurant wasn’t too crowded, ordering was quick, and we easily found a table large enough for all of us. I ordered JP’s plate, which came with brisket, sausage, and braised cabbage. I’d never tried braised cabbage before, but based on the reviews, I decided to give it a shot—and I’m so glad I did! It tasted incredible. If you visit, I highly recommend trying the braised cabbage. You might be pleasantly surprised like I was!

Really good brisket. Nice people too. Very simple place but the food is great and parking was easy to navigate
Love this place !!!!! We went to eat there due to the amazing review from friends and family in Wimberley. The staff is amazing they made us feel like family especially the young lady.Warmed my heart you don’t find service like that often. The barbecue was five stars absolutely love the brisket , turkey and loaded potatoes. We will definitely be Considering them for my daughter’s wedding.
Justin has the best BBq in Texas, we love the San Marcos location and we were in the Wimberly area today and had to check this location out . It didn’t disappoint!
JP's is far and above the best BBQ around and to think this gem is right around the corner from us in Wimberley. Everything was 10 out of 10. I was salivating as soon as I turned onto River Rd. The smell of the wood smoke was simply 'intoxicating'. Their sides are outstanding too, although there wasn't an option for me to recommend those. We had potato salad, pinto beans, and cole slaw. Absolutely delicious! You can't go wrong here.
Amazing, truly a gem of an amazing town. We had the brisket, sausage, potato salad, cream of corn and banana pudding and there wasn’t a single item that didn’t garner praise. We normally try Texas Monthly Top 50 and I think Wimberley has a secret winner here and I’m so happy we discovered this spot before it hits it big!
EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS‼️ Sausage, sides and desserts were all made from scratch!!! Slow smoked meats that just melt in your mouth. They make their own BBQ sauces and they really know what they're doing coming from BBQ legends like Chisolm Trail BBQ in Lockhart and San Marcos BBQ. Definitely coming here more often.
We were Looking for a restaurant in Wimberley TX to celebrate my BDY and found this BBQ place off the main road, a hidden gem. For 4 people the Price was good and had left overs. The Brisket served ha not Fat at all, just perfect, the sausage had great flavor. The service, the attention to the costumer excellent. The owner a Good man whom introduced himself and gave us the right attention. They have live music. Beutiful place either to chill out or have fun with friends. Recommended
Great outside dining area (little concert / stage area). Great priced brisket. Easy on-site parking. Short wait time. Great location around other stuff going on within a 5 minute drive. Great brisket overall. Only mild complaint is the sauces were not great, which is odd for a brisket place, but I'm leaving 5 stars b/c the brisket could be enjoyed without sauce anyway.
There is a playground and everyone that works here is just so sweet. You can order inside or order at the bar. There are two swings seats. There is a wheelchair access and usually live music on the weekends. There are games like cornhole, little bit of darts. Very cute.

The brisket was too fatty. But the loaded mash potato was pretty good, so was the green hatch chile sausage. Chicken and pork ribs were ok.
We both ordered a sliced brisket sandwich with following sides; braised cabbage, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, and loaded mashed potatoes. Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection! When we were greeted upon entering, we were told this was the best BBQ in Texas...I can't confirm that, because I've not eaten at all of the Texas BBQ places. Our complaints to the ownership and staff...very good. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Picked up an order that I placed online. When I was ready to eat I discovered that 2 sides were missing. The sides that I did get were not good. Their pecan pie was good. The brisket was dry but I was able to eat it smothered in their bbq sauce, thankfully that was decent. I’m frustrated I left a tip just for a messed up order and in reality they got an even bigger tip because they didn’t give me all the food I paid for.
Couldn't have been more disappointed. My order came with slice of brisket that was almost all entirely fat, after I asked for lean cut. Rib was almost all bone with maybe three bites of meat. Sausage was dry and tough. Only plus was wife said her sides of green beans and cabbage was great. Spent $50 and had to go home and eat a sandwich. Never going back again...

Pretty weak bbq place. No Brisket or Mac and Cheese! Food was not hot and seemed to be scraped up leftovers (pulled pork)!Young lady was just not overly excited to have customers and I felt like I interrupted something she was doing. Then had the nerve to ask for a tip on the machine. Not good!
Sunday 11am taste is 5 out of 10 if you like bread and little meat. My $9 sliced brisket had 1/2 slice of brisket and some fat. So many better options to spend hard earned money for Texas BBQ. Maybe new owners or managers have taken over not sure. A year ago it was good but not anymore.

Food was Terrible. My chicken fried pork chop featured 90% fried breading, the porkchop? MIA. Sides were cold and tasted bad. There is clearly a reason why this place has 2 occupied tables (including ours) at 7pm on Saturday evening. A tortuous experience. Good news, plenty of parking in lot.
