Opinions de The French Laundry Yountville
First of all, dress code. A lot of people ask about appropriate dress when planning a dinner at The French Laundry. If you ask the restaurant they will tell you to “dress comfortably”, this is because they genuinely want you to feel comfortable and enjoy your experience as much as possible. While there is no strict dress code, if you want to blend in, then for men you could consider anything from a full suit down to a simple collared shirt and dress slacks or even a nice pair of jeans and a sport coat. For women, you could go formal with a nice evening gown or dress down to a business casual look. Again, there is no actual dress code policy (obviously within reason) but those are the spectra within which the majority of the diners I saw while I was there were dressed. Now on to the review. Everything from the food and beverage to the service and ambiance was impeccable. The food was creative and delicious and the wine pairings were perfectly suited to each dish. I also really enjoyed how they do their wine pairing menu. You essentially just give them a budget of what you’d like to spend per person and they create a tasting menu for you. It’s also worth mentioning that the pours are substantial and not at all like a regular tasting pour. In some instances with the half bottles they give you the entire thing. Calling their wine list extensive would be an understatement at just over 100 pages in length so there are many options to choose from if you decide you’d just like to order a glass or a bottle instead of a pairing. The food was obviously top notch and the menu also has enhancements which we also tried. You seriously can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. We went in with very high expectations, given that this restaurant has not only earned but maintained its 3 star status since 2007, and they definitely did not disappoint. Overall excellent experience.
I used to think Michelin-star restaurants were overpriced and overrated — why spend so much just for food? The French Laundry completely changed my perspective. You’re not just paying for the meal; you’re paying for the experience, the service, and the ambiance — and they deliver on all of it. My wife and I visited for our one-year anniversary and reserved the “Surf and Turf” tasting menu. From the moment we were seated, we felt celebrated. Our server (I believe her name was Angelina) greeted us warmly and congratulated us on our anniversary right away. She even shared her own story of moving from San Diego and achieving her dream job at The French Laundry. Her passion for her work was so inspiring it made me reflect on my own career! The food was phenomenal — every dish showcased classic French techniques with a hint of Japanese influence. Each plate was beautifully presented, satisfying yet leaving me eager for the next course. The evening ended with an unforgettable touch: a personal tour of the kitchen and a bottle of champagne customized with a congratulatory message for our anniversary. We truly felt like VIPs. The French Laundry exceeded every expectation — the ambiance, the service, and the food made for a perfect anniversary celebration. It’s going to be very hard to top this next year!
Not much too add here other than another resounding 'bucket list; must add'. The French Laundry is the third three-star Michelin in which we've had the privilege of dining, and there is no question in our minds why they have received the Michelin maximum. The service, food and wine pairings are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If you can manage a reservation, dip into the trust fund or retirement account and YOLO your way to culinary heaven. To call the meal sophisticated is an understatement worthy of rebuke. The flavors and artistry in the dishes is simply on a level that cannot be captured in words, but can only be experienced. The wine cellar has vintages stretching back to the 1800's. If your pocketbook can handle the pain, the stroll down vintner's lane is generational and life changing. Ours could only stand a brief foray into the latter half of the last century, but my oh my what an experience. I don't know what comes after 'tertiary fermentation and aromatics' but I'm sure the sommeliers can help you find your way, if not the words. Leave your Bugatti keys on the table with the bill if your credit card comes back declined.
An unforgettable dining experience. Oysters & Pearls, the celery root panna cotta, and especially the bread & butter truly stood out. While the menu offered lamb or Japanese Miyazaki Wagyu, the beef option was thoughtfully provided and ended up being the highlight. Exceptional hospitality, including complimentary mocktails and a memorable kitchen tour with Head Chef Ara Jo, made the night even more special.
2nd year and 2nd time going to such a truly extraordinary experience at the French Laundry. Words are simply not adequate to describe the food, service, wine pairings. Chef Keller was personally there shaving truffles on the risotto. His spirit and love is in everything prepared here.
Where should I even start… We were having our 10th-anniversary dinner when the hotel suddenly called to say that my dog had escaped from our room. I rushed out in the middle of the meal to search for her, completely panicked. During the whole chaos, every single staff member in the restaurant was incredibly kind, supportive, and patient. The whole situation was so crazy that it’s hard to put into words, but their warmth made all the difference. In the end, we were able to finish the night — shaken, but together — and it turned into a surprisingly special and heartwarming experience. I’m deeply grateful for the team who helped us!!!
I am not sure where to begin. This place has been on my bucket list for sometime now. The service the food unreal. Everything is perfectly curated, but not pretentious. The music was amazing. It felt like we were in our own dining room having the best meal. I would suggest adding this to your bucket list and making a reservation you will not regret it.
The French Laundry is the perfect definition of a three-star Michelin destination - an exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey. Knowing this, we still went in with extremely high expectations, and the team somehow exceeded every single one. The entire experience, including the high-stakes reservation struggle, is now a treasured part of the story. I was incredibly lucky, and after a frantic 14 minutes on September 1st, by some miracle, we secured the Private Dining Room for my BIG birthday, that ends on a zero. The true magic began with our concierge, Kimberly. My initial email to her in a moment of desperation was met with grace. She understood what this trip from Chicago meant to me. The day of, she called with the incredible news of an upgrade to the Board Room. She also secured a kitchen tour, which alone was amazing. Thank you, Kimberly, for being the architect of our dream! The Board Room was beautiful and elegant, the perfect space for our party of eight to laugh and fully enjoy the night. Our Captains, Davis and Brent, were phenomenal. Their knowledge was encyclopedic, covering not just the menu but the significance of the wines and the story of international wines. The food was a WOW WOW WOW moment in every course. From the complex textures to the ingredients, the chefs managed to create magic. The Snake River Farms steak was an experiment in perfection, I cut mine with a fork just to demonstrate its tenderness. I will forever dream of the frozen cappuccino from our dessert treasure. The ultimate highlight was the opportunity to meet Chef Keller. I am crying even as I write these words. I have admired his work for years, owning five of his books and getting MasterClass specifically for his lessons. Meeting him that incredible day in October, on the eve of his 70th birthday, was surreal. I went completely blank and couldn't say any of the words I had planned, but the moment and the pictures are priceless. I have admired Chef Keller for many years, admired the impact he has had on the global fine dining cuisine. His influence spans further than Napa Valley and California. The fact that so many of the world's great chefs (our Chicago's very own Chef Achatz) have a history at The French Laundry and they all credit Chef Keller as being a mentor that has helped them propel to greater highs speaks to the selfless character of Chef Keller. Being able to mentor someone and have them create magic outside of your restaurant to me only means that the legacy he has created is that of wanting people to excel, and it will multiply when other chefs leave kitchens of other greats, a great example is Curtis Duffy and how he views Chef Achatz. Something I hope to emulate in my own personal and professional life. Thank you, Chef Keller, Kimberly, Davis, Brent, and the entire team for a life-changing birthday celebration. You truly are magicians! Highest possible recommendation!!!
My wife and I had an amazing experience at The French Laundry a few days ago. The food was great, simple, the menu was well thought-out with dishes highlighting the staples of French cuisine with minimal presentation and not overly complicated and confusing which happens sometimes in these fine-dining restaurants. The only exception was the venison course which was a bit heavy and confusing with the several sauces and meat preparations. The waiting staff was very polite, kind and with good knowledge of the dishes presented to us. Prior to us visiting the restaurant, we had a misfortune with our reservation online which was handled perfectly by the restaurant: they found us a table last-minute, they offered us both the bottle of wine we got, champagne, an extra dish and a box to go with chocolates and cookies made by the pastry chef. We were both very enthusiastic about how well we were treated and look forward to going there again in the future. P.S. It was a bog plus to getting a tour of the kitchen and getting to meet chef Keller. Aris Zikos
I had spent a good amount of time reading French Laundry cookbooks to understand the techniques and ingredients used in this meal, so it was a delight to dine here and have the laborious recipes that I had read about materialize in front of me. Overall, everything was delicious and service was impeccable while still feeling genuine. The meal starts off with amuse bouches which were all delightful bites. I really liked the oyster cracker with a creamy pepper filling. The meal starts of strong with oysters and pearl which is basically a super decadent oyster surrounded by rich creamy oystery sauce topped with caviar. Can't really go wrong here. Many dishes feature heavy creamy / buttery / yolky sauces, but the dishes are interspersed with bright acidic dishes. The grilled chicory was quite nice after the creamy dishes. The bread and butter dish I think is a good representation the TFL experience--very refined, buttery takes of classic dishes. The chicken dish is a very soft served with a buttery butternut squash sauce. I wanted to lick all the sauces off the plate. Grilled cheese again took cheese and made into a very creamy from topped with truffles. Desert was a cornucopia of fun things. The coffee and doughnuts is the most famous, which again takes the classic dish and makes the coffee very creamy and decadent. At the end of the meal, you are showered with gifts--menus, shortbread to take home, bonbons, a kitchen tour. It really elevates the meal from just a meal to an experience. Ultimately it was a great experience. It was a really enjoyable time and I left stuffed. Judging on the food alone, I think it is quite approachable--many dishes are familiar takes, but just very decadent refined versions. While it doesn't feel as innovative or novel as it might have been 20 years ago, it does feel like comfort food taken to the max.
This place is absolutely majestic. The atmosphere feels warm and sophisticated, with a beautiful outdoor area filled with cozy tables and soft lighting. You can even watch the chefs work. We had the seven-course dinner and also tried some starters, and every bite was exceptional. Each dish carried its own character, and the way the flavors unfolded in the mouth was delicate and harmonious. The portions were generous, and although I could not finish dessert, every course felt like a small masterpiece. The service was flawless. Every detail was handled with care, making the evening feel calm, elegant, and perfectly timed.
From the moment we stepped into French Laundry and the time we left was just incredible! Greeted by a glass of bubbly and staff that was just genuinely happy to be there serving and delighting us. Truly blown away by this establishment, while quite expensive you’re paying for an experience. An experience myself, husband and best friends will never forget. I can’t even begin to describe the dishes much less the service. The best absolute show stopper was when Chef himself greeted us and took us around his kitchen. A moment in time I wish I could bottle up forever! Thank you French Laundry team for reminding us why we even got in this business ourselves. It’s so hard to do what we do everyday but reminded in this moment that it is all to serve our community in a unique and unforgettable way. Cheers!
An amazing meal with my lovely wife! She had the vegetarian menu, I had the meat menu. French Laundry was as advertised, simply amazing, in the top 2 restaurants I’ve been to. Included a tour of the kitchen after our meal and were given delicious shortbread cookies and menu’s to take home. Once in a lifetime experience!!
Simply the best meal I have ever had. Wow. I expected the food to be out of this world and it exceeded my expectations. Every dish was balanced, beautifully presented and sublime. The first dish of Oysters and Pearls is straight from heaven. I mean I could have gone home after that!!! However, the wait staff was so exceptional. Annie, Veronica and Alexa made us feel extremely special and welcomed. Could not thank them enough for their hospitality and kindness. We cannot wait to go back John Labib
French Laundry still remains at the top of everyone's culinary list, and our most recent experience did not disappoint. The atmosphere, service was impeccable and the food was amazing. Something not mentioned in many reviews is the fact they can accommodate many different dietary restrictions. We had several food allergies within our party, and the culinary team at French Laundry were able to make adjustments without any issues and never missed a step.
Iconic restaurant that deserves the recognition it gets. From the ambience, the service, the food and wine, it’s truly a remarkable experience worth the price of entry. Reservations have become exceedingly difficult to get, but if you have the opportunity to go, jump on it. I could go on about it, but really not much else needs to be said. An institution that lit the way for many fine dining restaurants, and remains a pillar of excellence. I eagerly await a chance to revisit.
Dining at the French Laundry was on my dining bucket list for years. I have watched every documentary, experienced meals from chefs who have worked at the French Laundry so the fact that I was here was a huge win for me. The restaurant is even more beautiful in person. From the second you walk in, the customer service and experience is top notch. There are so many people assisting with the service. I was lucky to have this amazing young man, Landon and Nicole as my service team and they made my experience so much nicer and pleasant. I knew the food would be amazing but Landon was so attentive and made us laugh throughout our entire meal. Nicole kept our dinner running smooth from beginning to end. I will say when they brought the box of black truffles to my table and shaved them on my mac n cheese was a WOW moment. The meal was exquisite. The dessert options were insane. From beginning to end this experience will always be at the top of my memory list. When our meal was complete, I was able to tour the kitchen and see chef Ara Jo in action. She was very impressive!! I had a short conversation with her and she said, " I will see you again." You are right chef, i will see you again!! Thank you French Laundry team. All of you are amazing!!
My third time returning to TFL and it continues to be one of my favorite meals. Service is excellent, champagne and wine is obviously amazing and the food continues to deliver.

Once in a lifetime dining experience and what a wonderful experience it was! Every course was delicious and the wine pairings really complemented the meal.
Depends on the menu of the time. When we were there it was OK to our taste. The wine pairing wasn't worth it in a way if you try searching each bottle
