Excellent seafood. Shrimp lovers platter and the fried oysters were spot on. Sha our waitress was engaged and very nice.
Pet are allowed even had a pup menu. Love this place food was great! waitress was very polite atmosphere was amazing.
We came on a Thursday evening in February. It was quite dead, but we got great food and excellent service! Cathy was a gem and so fun to talk with. Husband had the fried fish plate (mahi) and I had the shrimp lover’s dinner. We both enjoyed our choices! Portions were large and we ended up coming home with enough for another meal. We were a little hesitant because of the prices, but in the end feel like it was a fair value.
This place is a MUST! The fish is too fresh for words! So delicious! My kids enjoyed the games on the patio. Best part for me was the staff honesty! I left my purse on the chair and came back the next day to find they had it safe and sound, with everything in its place. 💕
We had our 2 dogs and sat on the patio. It was a little windy but they lit one of their outdoor heater torches for us. The food was really good. Wish I had more crab on the shrimp but definitely will go again.
My Husband Had the Gumbo And a ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT the spice was a little Hottter Then He Likes but it Did NOT Bother him not one bit!! because he ate it all up. 1 Of Our Friend Had surf and turf is steak is phenomenal the shrimp or even the Mungus with Plenty FLAVOR!!! His Wife and I Shared Shrimp Boil It Was Awesome. Wait Staff Was Fantastic. Hats off to the owner
Castaways was without a doubt an awesome experience. The Fried Shrimp and Fried Oysters were the best food of the whole weekend. Service was perfect, food was served hot, picked up and it was still great when we got back to the hotel. Best of all - they have a "pup menu" and our dog'order of unseasoned chicken and white rice was the first and only food he was willing to eat the whole 3 days we were on the island.
This was my second visit to the restaurant, and both times I’ve loved the food, service, and atmosphere. They offer both indoor and outdoor bars, and the wait staff is always prompt, attentive, and courteous. The environment is spotless, open, and inviting, with a fun island and beach vibe that makes the experience even better.

The food was great. We had the gumbo and the strawberry salad. Gumbo is hard to make with that perfect roux. They aced it. Perfect amount of spice and on point. Salad wash fresh with a homeade dressing that made it crisp and clean. Service was great. Prices were fair. Plenty of parking and bike friendly.
Our server was Cecilia and she was absolutely amazing! My best friend and I were celebrating her birthday and myself into nursing school. Cecilia was SO kind helping make our dinner and celebration perfect! Our food was amazing from the drinks, appetizers, and desserts. Everything came out in a timely manner our waters stayed full I couldn't ask for a better experience. Castaways has been a place we have enjoyed for 19 consecutive years now and will continue for many more years to come
Our server Emery was absolutely the kindest, and most personable server we’ve had in the past few years anywhere we’ve gone. That was just the cherry on top of a fantastic meal. The drum was so fresh and delicious, and the coconut shrimp were amazing. Love that they have a doggy meal. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Port A.
This is a great place for some fresh sea food. I had the Jays special and it was so good. The fish had great flavor and was very flakey. The dessert was top notch as well. We had the peach bread pudding and it was so warm and savory it was hard to stop! The only downside was the eating area was pretty loud. However, it’s overall an amazing place and I would certainly recommend.
1st time here and I loved it. I got the ultimate platter. I got to sample a little of everything. The only bad thing I have to say is I didn't get lemon on my platter. The appetizer crab ragoon dip. Was amazing. My family got the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich and a castaburger they loved it also. Service was outstanding . We will be back.
Absolutely delicious!! Everything is FRESH and perfectly well plated. Flavors are on point, and drinks were delicious. The restaurant is clean and has lots of seating. It's a little pricey, paid $158 for a party of 2. Had no problem with price because food was so delicious. You have to try at least once on your trip to Port A.
Zach was a very knowledgeable and attentive waiter. He generously gave us a few samples of some of the food and wine which led us to ordering the most fabulous Corn Bisque we have ever had and pared it with a great wine. We will definitely go back again when in Port A and hopefully they will have more homemade Bisque! Thanks Zach!
There wasn’t a wait, our party of 5 was seated outside right away. Our waitress was kind, but looked frazzled. She took our drink and appetizer order. We weren’t ready to order our main dish at that time, and she didn’t come back to take our order for about 20 minutes. My husband ordered a margarita on the rocks, and when he got the drink he found a hair in it. He went up to the bar to tell her and she just took the drink & dumped it out, then made him a new one. No apology for that. We got our food, and again, my husband found a hair on his French fries. That ruined our dining experience, the rest of the food wasn’t terrible but we were now on the lookout for any more hair. As for atmosphere, the music kept cutting in and out and the fans weren’t blowing much air around.
This is a charming place. The food was pretty great. We enjoyed the grilled mahi, Jay’s special, & the treasure boil as well as mozzarella sticks & mahi ceviche for appetizer. We didn’t completely love the ceviche. Their bread pudding was wonderful as well. It is also worth mentioning that our server, MiChaela, was also very kind and did a great job. The downside to a place like this is solely how loud the dining room can be. I mean it gets LOUD. It was really hard to hear my family’s conversation at a small 4 seat table. Aside of that, definitely worth coming back!
My friend and I went out to eat here not too long ago, while the food was decent it wasn’t really worth the price. We initially had to wait a really long time to be seated, there was no one at the host stand and when we were greeted and taken care of the service was kinda mediocre. the older blonde lady is very sweet though. i just think y’all need a hostess for such a big restaurant
This place came highly recommended but I personally would not eat here again. The crab boil was 100%, the tuna was okay. The atmosphere didnt really have one. Just a crowded restaurant and busy. Online says they are gluten knowledgeable but that wasnt the case. It was not horrible but it was not great. They did have local art work for sale and that was super cool!
So we had the hush puppies and the ultimate Port platter. Hush puppies were great. Lots of flavor. The grilled shrimp and coconut shrimp were amazing. My blackened Mahi was very bland. The oysters had no flavor. Also it did take us 30 minutes to just get a drink and it wasn't that busy. The scenery is what makes this place nice.
We travel to Port A frequently but have never eaten at Castaways. We were there for Thanksgiving week and made a reservation for the Thanksgiving meal that Castaways was serving. Ham or turkey, cornbread dressing, garlic mashed potatoes, creamy corn, green bean casserole, candied yams, homemade cranberry sauce, and a roll for $21.00. Sounded great, so we made our reservation for 3:00pm. We arrived at the restaurant just before 3:00pm and were immediately informed they were out of turkey, so ham only. Ok, no problem. However, when our "plate" was delivered, there was no green bean casserole, no candied yams, no cranberry sauce and no roll. We instead had "canned corn", plain mashed potatoes, dressing, ham and a piece of buttered white bread. WHAT???? When we asked about the "missing" items from our plate, we were told oh, we already ran out, but we are discounting the price. We went ahead and ate the mediocre food and paid our "discounted" bill - they took off $6.00 per plate - WOW. This meal was a complete disappointment and had we been informed they were out of almost everything, we would have opted not to eat. If they were only taking reservations, they knew EXACTLY how many people they would be serving, so extremely poor planning on their part for running out food. Based on this one experience, I do NOT recommend this restaurant and will not be eating there on any of our future Port A trips.
