This is a must try no frills Cantonese dining spot in Chinatown. The Peking duck was solid, if anything a little cold but the flavor was yummy. My favorite dish was the Char Siu, definitely not like the Char Siu we have back with our Canto folks in Tijuana, but it was nice to try the authentic one here!! The Chow Mein and Chinese Sausage Fried Rice were also shockingly amazing, they were perfectly balanced and paired really well with the chili oil they provide. The servers were also extremely attentive and diligent; they welcomed us with warm cups of tea and didn’t have us waiting long at all. And as the cherry on top, as a group of 3 we ate well and took some leftovers all for only 60 bucks 🤣🤣. I absolutely loved everything about this place; the food, the vibes, the people, the price, but most importantly the quality of the experience. 10/10 from us, and even though this isn’t San Diego this place is 100% DAYGOEATS CERTIFIED✅📋

Service was fast and great. The pork & preserved duck eggs porridge (jook), shrimp rice rolls, and fried Chinese donuts are my go-to's. Everything came out fresh and hot, very delicious. I used to come here when I worked in the area, so it's very nostalgic. ✨️

This is what a Cantonese dining experience is!!! Disclaimer: I have eaten at this place since I was a child, I fell in love with the chang fun and the porridge here. So I was so sad when I heard from my own parents that this place was not as good and affordable anymore. So, after 4 years away from the military, I returned to try it with a critical eye. It did not disappoint. The pork liver changfun (with out yellow chives) was soft and silky, while the pork liver was cooked and seasoned to perfection. It had a slight crunchy texture. The pork inards porridge was also really delicious with great flavors. The meat was perfectly cooked, pairing perfect with the Chinese doughnut. The wonton noodles were good, not amazing, but still objectively good. The menu is large, not as cheap as its neighbors, and it is easy to order food that may not be as good, but trust men when I say to order the specialties. The changfun and porridge. When I sat down and looked at all the elderly people's table, it was all of those. The specialties that are sold here are still one of the best I had in the world, including Guangzhou, Malaysia, Singapore, and other Asian speaking countries. I am still on a journey to find a good replacement. I will update this when I do.

My freaking favorite Chinese restaurant in the East Bay! Get the porridge with Chinese donut. Sprinkle some white pepper. Great for rainy cold days where you just need some comfort food. Noodle soups here are great for that too. Rice rolls are hand made! I prefer the cilantro one.

This is the perfect spot for some authentic chinese food. The service was quick, barely a few minutes. The food was also affordable with a large portion size. I got the roasted pork noodles which had crispy cuts of pork, veggies, and plenty of noodles. Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

There's really no arguing the bay area is THE place to get the best Chinese food around in the US. However, as I've grown up, SF Chinatown has become too expensive and touristy to go for food whenever I'm around, so I opted to come here in Oakland's Chinatown to take some friends (with very low exposure levels to Chinese food) for some good, old-fashioned Cantonese grub. This place was legit. The service was merely adequate. There wasn't even a bathroom to be dirty. But the food was cheap(for the bay), had relatively large portions, but most importantly, tasted absolutely fantastic. It's unpretentious and unassuming, just as it should be. From what we had, I'd highly recommend getting a half duck and the beef chow fun. Everything else was still very, very good, but those were definitely the standouts amongst all the other places I've been to in the bay.

Good HK style bbq (char siu, roasted pig, duck) and egg noodle soup. Would recommend.

I visited in the morning. Not too busy. Prompt service. Ordered breakfast congee and BBQ combo. The food was great. The duck and roast pork were moist. Almost melt in mouth. Good texture and flavor.

Surprised by extensive menu, not just the traditional BBQ roast items. Complementary tea, takes credit card, open later than other Oakland Chinatown restaurants, fast service, good for breakfasts start 8am, lunch special and dinner combination (3 entree special price, including soup, good for family)

Starting with the Beef Tripe Wonton Noodle Soup, it offered a comforting blend of tender beef tripe and delicate wontons in a fragrant broth. While beef tripe wasn't quite my preference, the soup base and wontons were undeniably delicious. It's a dish worth trying for the adventurous diner. Next up, the Roasted Duck with Noodle Soup took center stage. The succulent duck slices paired perfectly with the egg noodles, and the rich broth infused with roasted duck essence was truly soul-soothing. The crispy skin added a delightful crunch, making it a must-try for duck enthusiasts. We also tried their BBQ Combo Dish, which included BBQ pork and roast duck bursting with flavor, thanks to the perfectly balanced marinade. The Beef and Egg Over Rice was alright but not memorable. To cleanse our palates, we enjoyed refreshing Lemon Tea, its citrusy zing complementing the savory dishes beautifully. I also ordered their Beef Chow Fen for takeout, featuring wide rice noodles stir-fried with succulent beef, creating a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.

Ordered wonton with duck, black mushroom rice noodle and shrimp rice noodle. Good Chinese not fancy comfort food. 12.95 wonton soup with duck. The wonton are perfect with pork and crunchy shrimp. There are 10 wontons in the bowl with two stalks of green choy sum veggie in a delicious broth. The dish came with 6 sliced pieces of house roasted duck that was good. 5 stars for this dish. YUMMY! 6.95 shrimp rice noodle rice noodle was prepared perfectly slippery smooth rice noodle with one shrimp in each section, dressed with soy sauce and sesame seed oil. Two rice noodle rolls cut in 3 each. 5 stars for the rice noodle but 3 stars for the filling because the shrimp was overcooked and chewy. The shrimp wasn't as good as in the wonton. 5.95 black mushroom and chives rice noodle: rice noodle itself was again perfect. I was expecting shitake mushrooms when I read black mushroom but the chef used HALF of a canned straw mushroom in each rice noodle section. I was disappointed in this dish as something is missing in the seasoning. The rice noodle is good. Fillings were not up to my expectations. Service is pretty quick after you order. Tables are too close together for my comfort and not 6' apart. Waitress tends to space people apart when it is less crowded. Waitress never came by to refill the complimentary tea, so you only get one cup of tea if you don't ask for it. Atmosphere is lacking but the food is really good and reasonably priced. A bathroom exists in the Plaza that one have asks the Waitress for a key. So you need to go outside of the restaurant to do that. I would rather do take out here and eat in the comfort of my own home.

I've had Gum Kuo on my list for quite a while and happy to have finally tried it today with my habibi :) We came in at about 2pm on a Tuesday and place was pretty full - not too shabby! Only locals eat here so be ready to eat with chop sticks ;) Their menu includes pretty much any choice you could ever want starting from soups, their versin of porridge, rice and noodle plates, main entrees, apetizers, egg dishes, sandwiches, any type of meat [chicken, pork, duck, beef etc] and plenty of seafood options. What doesn't it have really? Prices are ah-ma-zzz-ing! So many great choices for under $10? WHOA! Don't miss their lunch specials for 7.5$ until 2:30pm!!! Between the two of us we [over]ordered: - beef mushroom rice roll - bbq pork rice roll - chicken fried rice - salt and pepper shrimp Gotta love their delicious rice rolls - just like the typical cheung fun but more rice rolls than usual and lots of meat stuffed inside. If you're ordering a main entre, 1 of these bad boys is more than enough if it's just two people sharing. My hubby preferred the beef and i loved the bbq pork :). Fried rice was delicious, not too oily and had that old school smoky flavor - it went well with their chilli sauce. Salt and pepper shrimp was good and fresh but just like plain dry shrimp dish it just didn't go with what we were eating - hubby's fault :P Overall, service was fast and friendly, place is neat, food is delicious and prices are unbeatable. Highly recommend. Dying to come on a cold day to try their porridge :) PS. They accept card payments for bills over 20$. No bathroom inside.

I usually come here for takeout food. The service is friendly, and the cashier lady is helpful. I particularly enjoy the fresh rice rolls for breakfast and the roasted duck. However, the roast pork belly can be quite salty, and this morning to the point where I couldn't eat it.

Came here again 4 breakfast. Got their breakfast special. A lot of food for a really good price. The breakfast special is good til 10:30am. Had the steak and noodle with 2 piece fried chicken and hot milk tea. We also had fried egg with pork and noodle soup with buttered toast and hot milk tea. Eventhough it's a lot of food, I felt jipped since I only got 3 pieces of steak. Everything was very tasty. After eating everything else, I was really full. The milk tea was exceptionally good. Come here b4 10:30am if u want this deal. Came here another time for some warm yumny jook. The jook here is really good!! It taste and has the consistency of "homemade." I saw a lot of other people ordering rice noodle as well as noodle soup dishes. Their chow mein is also very good. If you come before 10:30am, they have a breakfast special menu that is a pretty good deal (under $8.00) per person.

They have a pretty good selection of entrees to choose from. The proteins on display are always ready to be put over rice and served to you. Many of the entrees also come with vegetables on the side as well. Beef chow fun was tasty, but could have used a tad more soy sauce. Maybe a bit more meat as well. I'd come here again. The service was a little better than average. The space was small enough that if you raised your hand or tried to get the staff's attention, someone would see you. The line can be a bit long, but it moves along. Though the lunch hour is understandably longer.

I heard about this place having a good roasted duck. What I got on a Wednesday afternoon was a lukewarm and overly salty bird with a chewy skin. I was disappointed. The flavor wasn’t bad and it would have been so much better if it was warmer and had crispier skin. Did I come on a bad day? The wonton soup was hot and nice.

Don't know why they are so rude! We used to go quite often, always tip. Tried again the other daily - still rude. If you sit in the booths at the front, there is a cold wind from the open door, and it's very loud as they carry on a loud conversation and throw the silverware into the hoppers. Quieter at the back, but be careful which table you sit at or they'll shout at you. Don't go in half an hour before closing or they'll give you a hard time. Pity, the wonton soup is good - have to find somewhere else. The BBQ is hot or miss. The jok is said to be good.

I ordered duck and noodles as a new customer... got sick for the rest of the day. I don't trust their food coming out of the kitchen for new customers. Looking around it looked like regulars had better quality ingredients on their plate.
