The one word that comes to mind to describe our meal was "exciting!" We started with oysters which included a fun variety (fat boy oysters!) and moved on to The Rock. Nothing about the name or the description on the menu actually coveys how EXCITING this life experience was - cooking your own perfectly sliced waguy on a hot rock bathed in olive oil, accompanied by several dipping/spicing options. Sometimes, all you need is a perfectly seared slice of waguy, and I don't even usually eat red meat. Divine! Even the next course of onion soup was somehow both really comforting and a delightful combination of flavors and textures, including the perfect gruyere cheese. We got two different fish mains and shared them both and each one was outstanding. The thousand year old coconut rice? Why are you so delicious? And the broth that accompanied the miso cod was just the perfect combination of umami scents and flavors. I can't emphasize how good this broth was, but let's just say not a drop was wasted. Even the pineapple cobbler we split for dessert was really well balanced. It's a little difficult to find (on the second floor of Hotel Nikko just off Union Square) but well worth the visit!
We have been going to Anzu for several years now and eat here at least once any time we are in San Francisco. And we have gotten to know several of the staff. Alaina in the bar makes delicious cocktails. William, one of the bussers, is always polite and friendly in his greetings. Deepak, the main waiter, is by far, one of the main reasons we keep coming back. Yes, the food is excellent and carefully thought out, the atmosphere and ambiance are prefect for a quiet evening meal, the menu is not extensive but varied and includes a sushi bar in the restaurant, but Deepak goes above on beyond to make dinning at Anzu a truly rewarding experience. Over the years he has taken the time to remember our drink and food preferences (and allergies) and offers suitable alternatives if something is not available. Even on occasion bringing us an old favorite no longer on the current menu! We always feel extra welcome here and Deepak expresses genuine interest in our travel plans, sometimes offering travel tips for our time in the city when we have nothing specific going on. I honestly cannot imagine the Anzu experience being the same without Deepak!
The moment I was seated the service was perfect! The first night I had Wagyu Steak with Vegetarian sushi, and the best Saki. The next evening I had Lamb, Smoky Old Fashioned Saki and Mango Sherbet. Thank you Maria for being a great Hostess and Deepak was the best! Celebrating 20year of life and legacy of my niece Jamila P Scott with Anzu was perfect! Thank you all the staff I encountered!
Came here for Easter Brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the food. They had a wide variety of traditional American breakfast and Japanese cuisine options. It wasn’t crowded when we arrived at 11am though by the time we left the place was full. Would recommend getting in early before the crowd because it was very peaceful.
Everything was perfect. The staff was lovely, the meal was delicious and the cocktails were amazing.
One of my favorite brunch places on the city. You can have the whole place to yourselves on Sundays!
So good. We tried nearly the whole menu tapas style with a group and love every bite!
Food was delicious and they were attentive to my allergies. Service was professional and unobtrusive.

Went for Sunday brunch. Beautiful dining room and wonderful selections. Love the traditional Japanese breakfast options (miso soup, salmon, and veggies). Western & European breakfast options (smoked salmon, smoothies, cheese and cold cuts). Great service with friendly staff and clean bathrooms.
Very cute atmosphere and good service. If you have a mood for fish and drinks check this place out. Their menu is so friendly and it was easy to order. Delicious sushi. So many flavors. High quality fish and presentation. This was my first visit but I’ll come back again!
Wonderful experience! Especially thanks to my new friend Deepac, who’ve provided an outstanding service. Among the many servers who have assisted me across various countries, Deepac stands out not only as a remarkable server but as a genuinely kind and thoughtful individual. If you’re a frequent diner who appreciates exceptional service, you must visit Restaurant Anzu and ask for Deepac

A quiet retreat while staying in Hotel Nikko. I got in the restaurant after 10pm. It was a nice restaurant to either hang out or dining alone. Miso soup was soooo good! Authentic and full of flavor. 10/10 recommended! Lobster roll was just okay though.
I really enjoyed the ambiance and the service was great. The food itself didn't impress though, I picked from the sushi menu and it was good but for the price I think there are better value options.
We spent first night at the bar and second night dining and the bar after. The food was great with the exception of the Anzu roll which was just a average tasting sushi roll. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. It was David’s first weekend bartending for Anzu. He was awesome but seemed to be thrown in there without being properly trained on their system. Also what kind of establishment has the only bartender leave the bar to take orders and serve drinks at the tables? Kudos to David for a job well done!
Good quality Japanese food. Slightly expensive but not bad if you want to eat in a relaxing place.

Everything was amazing, top notch service and helpful staff! Only reason for taking away a star is for pricing. For breakfast: $25 for 3 pancakes… For dinner: $40 for chicken and veggies and it wasn’t the greatest meal ever. Only thing that helped was if you stay at the hotel you get $10 off a day from a meal. It’s not much but something.

We only had breakfast here once. The service is excellent. However the food was lukewarm when we got it. There was also a service charge in addition to tips so overall it was not worth the price we paid.

Cute pool, gym and courtyard terrace Room service ok. Beds could be more plush a little too springy for my liking. Bed pillows could have smelled fresher Room has a nice view of the city. Customer service wonderful. Didn’t try restaurant Honestly If they got bed right I would be happier. I’m local and debating driving home to be in my comfy bed vs staying overnight.

The staff and service are good, the food is fundamentally disenchanting and overpriced. The halibut seemed like it was cooked well before and then placed under a heat lamp, thus dry and underwhelming. Portions were small and unsubstantial, we left hungry after paying over $200 for two plates and two drinks. The $76 "traditional" Japanese breakfast amounted to warm scrambled eggs and fruit from a buffet. The added tip for no waiter/table service at breakfast was simply rude. Skip the restaurant all together and take your money somewhere else that offers some value.
Went for thanksgiving dinner buffet 2025. On arrival the staff claimed they did not have our reservation. After showing them the numerous confirmation emails/texts, they were able to seat us magically. They were able to even look me up and see the confirmation texts I got from them. A restaurant not having a reliable reservation system is unacceptable. The food was lacking finesse and variety I would expect at the price point. Some of the dishes were not properly warmed underneath so you ended up with cool food. Most of the cooked vegetables, like green beans and carrots, were slightly undercooked. There was also not much variety at all. The dim sum and sushi was a sad attempt to differentiate themselves. I do not see a reason they should include it if they wish to create an excellent meal, it is overall sub par. Overall it felt like they did not try very hard. The main thanksgiving dishes of turkey, prime rib, stuffing, and mashed potatoes were done well and the meat was quite good. The dessert bar was also sub par for the price point. It mostly was just various cakes cut up into slices or small squares. They did have pumpkin pie, it was not special. Everything seemed pre-made by other bakeries/stores. The atmosphere also left something to be desired. The restaurant was not full which would be fine, but indicates people know it’s not worth going to. Even if it was full, it is still too spread out. Did not feel like a pleasant atmosphere with lots of other people, felt quite empty and business like.

I know this is a "hotel restaurant," so it can be a hit-or-miss... but this is a big ol' miss. This overpriced eatery greets you with bored staff and an even more boring ambiance. Then, a side salad and a pile of mushy chicken smashed onto unseasoned, mushy veggies is served right next to a check for $65. So, not only do you get bad food, but you get to pay a crazy amount of money for the privilege.
