Amazing, perfect cuisine in a comfortable, welcoming environment! Great service with truly memorable dishes! I was particularly fond of the cheese pakora: crispy and light with a wonderful flavor, throughout. Just excellent! And the lamb coconut curry I had was so tender it tasted like it had been braised for HOURS! The seasoning had wonderful depth of flavor and left me feeling warm and satisfied.
Food was fantastic, I wandered in without expectation and it was an incredible meal. In particular the Dahi Puri was wonderful and a really unique taste and texture.
I went with some friends and we all were happy with our meals. I started off only ordering the behl puri but ended up adding the paper dosa and falooda to my order since the food was so good! I tried some of my friends meals too, the masala dosa, makki ki roti with sarson ka saag, and aloo tikki chaat and would gladly order those too.
A must go for Indian food. Very clean, excellent service From Charles (Mr. Smiles : )), and the food is some of the best Indian food in the Twin Cities. Don't let the strip mall location deter you. I have seen countless recommendations lately for very bland and mediocre food at restaurants. This food has a ton of flavor, well seasoned, and prices well. The Peshwari paneer is thick and full of filling. Every dish we tried was delicious and you get a good sized portion. I will definitely be coming back. We tried: Pesheari Naan Chole Bhature Pindi Chana Beef Makhani Kesar Kulfi Keer All excellent. Really liked the Peshwari Naan and Chole Bhature.
Outstanding restaurant which brings to life the exquisite flavors of India through its Clay Oven with a wide range of menu options from street food to requisite menu items like Chana Masala. There are so many choices available, but not enough room in one’s stomach !! Located on Washington Avenue with easy street parking, this is a must see and enjoy new Indian restaurant in Downtown Minneapolis. The food freshness and quality are 10/10; the service is 10/10 (Krishna): the ambiance and cleanliness are 10/10. We started with chutney and papadum which is fresh, crispy, and flavorful. We tried the beautiful Dani Puri : beautiful and tasteful: Chana Masala was exquisite with perfect chana and the masala was not overpowering : the Chicken Tikka was great with fresh chicken and vegetables served on the sizzling platter : the Puri was light and tasty: our dessert was an exquisite icing on the cake . This is our second dining experience at Clay Oven, and we can not wait to return 🙏
After our first visit, Clay Oven immediately shot up toward the top of my ongoing list of Best Indian Restaurants in the Twin Cities! The menu includes some dishes that I hadn’t encountered previously, especially in the “Indian Street Food” section. The vast array of vegetarian & vegan options was another thing my party appreciated. If you’re a fan of Indian cuisine living in Minnesota, then Clay Oven absolutely must be on your dining list. And if you’re someone who’s not too familiar with Indian food, the comfortable atmosphere and attentive service here make it a welcoming and approachable place to try out! I’m glad Clay Oven is just a few miles from my place, since I definitely foresee bringing out-of-town guests here for memorable meals!
The chole bhature, dahi puri, and kulfi falooda were absolutely delicious. Very flavorful and neatly presented food! ☺️
Fantastic service, clean and modern decor, and huge selection of vegetarian/ dairy free (maybe vegan…?) options. Everything we ordered had great texture and flavor. The ‘no spice’ setting still has some heat, so if you are completely intolerant of spicy food, you may need to order extra rice. 😉
Amazing food and service!!!! We walked here from our hotel. From the moment we walked in, until we left, the service was stellar! And, the food! It was out of this world, delicious!!!! We had the butter chicken, the Gobi Manchurian, (which was OMG!!! sooo good) naan bread, and the Vada Pav. Everything was amazing! Highly recommend!
Would highly recommend!! Everything we got was very delicious. Good balance of flavors, not too sweet. The mild still had a little spice to it — just be prepared if you don’t like any spice :) The clay oven version of the chicken tikka was actually our least favorite, but still good. Very professional service.
Great place for South Indian favorites, such as Dosa. We really enjoyed the Masala Dosa. The Dahi Puri was super fresh and delicious as well. Also, enjoyed the Paneer Tikka Masala and Amritsari Chole Kulche. And don’t miss out on the Mango Lassi! One of the best spots for Indian food in the Twin Cities!
I came into this restaurant on a whim, and I do NOT regret it! There was a large menu with lots of traditional cuisine options, of which you can not go wrong. Everything I ordered was delicious. All of the food was presented fresh and with good quality spices. The waiters were really kind and patient, willing to help me with the pronunciation of the food items. The atmosphere was really great for a chill/nice dinner. With a light murmer for background noise and wood table seating with small flower vases on top. Soft lighting. Definitely recommend trying their Rabri Jalebi dessert! (Pictured, the orange circles with yellow sauce!) The naan was not only warm but super soft, and the masalas we ordered were so delicious.
Great new restaurant! I've been twice and the vada pav and bhel puri have been my favorite items so far! They have a great selection of vegetarian dishes, which I personally enjoy.
My new to-go Indian food spot in Minneapolis! Restaurant ambiance amd service better then any other Indian restaurant around and menu has street food options you can't find anywhere else! We had dosa, pav vada, and gol gappe! The Tawa Chicken and Garlic Naan were amazing as well! Can't wait to go back!

This is an amazing date spot! Incredible food, great atmosphere, friendly servers. Everything we had was excellent, and they have vegetarian and gluten-free options if you need them.
Phenomenal tandoori food here . Best corn chapatis I have ever had. Salmon fish Tikka was exquisite. Wonderful chef. We met Louis and he was combining south American culinary skills to the Indian bread making. Absolutely a must to try this makki ki roti here. We enjoyed everything that we tried.
I was briefly in town and dropped by for lunch. This is among the best Indian food I've ever had - probably top two. The tandoori shrimp was incredible. Their masala gravy was also delicious - rich and complex flavor. More, my lunch was surprisingly affordable - under $30 after a 20% tip (and I got two meals out of it). Highly recommended.
Heck yeah! Tried takeout mostly because I'd been passing it on my way home. Food was incredible. Mild items still had a bit of kick, but medium was still easy for the family to handle. Potato naan, biryani, chicken tikka, paneer -- everything was great.
We recently ordered food for a group of about 45 people, and it was absolutely perfect! The portions were generous and well worth it. We had two large trays of Chicken Tikka and one large plus one medium tray of Chicken Biryani, and both dishes were outstanding. The Chicken Tikka was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The Biryani had all the authentic flavors you’d expect—fragrant rice, well-seasoned chicken, and just the right balance of spices. Since most of our group preferred mild spice, the seasoning was spot-on, making it enjoyable for everyone. The quality, taste, and presentation exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend for anyone looking for delicious, authentic Indian food for a large gathering!

I went there for the first time in July and have been back five to six times already! I always get the same thing chicken tikka masala and have come to crave it so much so that I DoorDash it sometimes 🫣. I went a few times with my friends and we all get different types of curry so I’ve tried a variety. From the beef to the chickpeas curry everything is just so delicious! The garlic naan is always a great addition. Will keep coming back for a while. 🤗
I had a wonderful experience at Clay Oven! The service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and made the meal feel special without being intrusive. Every dish was full of rich, balanced flavors, with each one having its own distinct profile that really stood out. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the preparation and presentation. The food was absolutely delicious, and everything we tried exceeded expectations. Highly recommend Clay Oven if you’re looking for authentic, flavorful food and warm hospitality in Minneapolis!
We ordered 6 different dishes and they all tasted great. The naan bread was crispy yet chewy, perfection. The price on the entrees were very reasonably as well. Definitely will be back..
Overall, we had a great experience. We were looking for a quick bite to eat before seeing a show at the Guthrie. We had plenty of time before the show, but they were pretty quick at getting us food. So if you are is a rush, this could be a good alternative as a pre-show meal. You can also getaway with sharing a dish since they have large portions.
6/9/23: we came back with our friends. My wife enjoyed the Chicken Korma, our friends liked their Lamb Biryani and Chicken Josh. My Tandoori Murg (aka Chicken Tandoor) was so so, I have had better at another restaurant nearby. The service was decent and the staff were friendly. We got home from months away and Clay Oven has finally opened its door. I was too lazy to make dinner, thus I decided to walk across the street to check this place out. Mr Khosa (the owner) was friendly and kind as we talked about the "heat index" of the Chicken Tikka that I eventually ordered. When the dish came out, it looks beautiful and the sauce was made with "extra" care to my liking (still too mild for me). The food was given a 4/5 star as I need to go back and try additional dishes before I can update its rating (to a 5 hopefully). Hopefully the restaurant will get its liquor license soon! The interior is bright, clean (including the restroom), and the service is good. I will be back

The food was really good and the staff was attentive. I would dine here again, especially since it is just a hop and a skip from the Guthrie. It is probably one of the better Indian restaurants I have visited in the metro.
