Fresh ingredients, everything done with attention to detail and food comes out fast. This place knows how to crush a lunch rush.

I've been coming here for years and just realized I've never left a review. Recommended to me by a Vietnamese friend, for good reason. The staff is always kind, and it's the best bun cha I've had in the US. My only sadness is that they stopped being open on the weekends during the pandemic. It's also good as takeaway if you can swing an early dinner.

E
Eric Mar

Excellent food and service. Busy little spot which might require you to share the table with others. The prices are a little higher than typical Vietnamese restaurants, but it’s worth it!

A
Alice Y

I work across the street from this restaurant. The price is reasonable and the service is quick. Be warned that this is northern style pho so there is no plate of bean sprout, basil, etc. and the broth is clearer/lighter/refreshing. The noodles are wider and the are pretty slippery.

Definitely will come back here for a delicious soup and great service!!!

I eat here as often as I can. The #10 (chicken satay) is delicious. Also, the spring rolls, papaya salad, and chicken soup are delicious. There's a #11, which is pork meatballs and pork with rice, which is also really good. This place is fast. The food is always fresh and delicious. And it's very reasonably priced--you can get a very hearty meal for well under $10. The peanut sauce that comes with the spring rolls is SO GOOD, it's almost like dessert. Can't recommend this place enough.

Used to live in the neighborhood in this place is the best pho in SF

My son and I have been eating here for years. Sadly we moved away in 2020 and we still talk about how much we love this place. The service is amazing, the food is even more amazing, and its such a nice cozy place to come in from the cold, windy Divisadero bus stop. We miss you, MFK!

Great authentic Vietnamese food! I got a chicken and shrimp rice plate. The chicken and shrimp were perfectly grilled, and the rice was very hot and fresh. The dipping sauce was very well made. Good service too!

Tidy, clean space with a few nice design elements. Affordable meals, and the pho broth is some of the cleanest/simplest I've tasted. There were a couple days in my wife's pregnancy when she subsided on their pho ga.

E

Excellent imperial rolls. Very friendly service.

Unusual name for a Vietnamese food restaurant but food is good. Loved the roasted pork with vermicelli (... but I asked for "on rice" instead and they accomodated. It is a favorite of local health-care employees.

J

Despite the fact this place is closed half the time and dinner ends at 7pm...their pho is great. Flavorful and deep without being oily, too sweet, too salty...I did not add any condiments at all, which is unheard of. The beef was actually wonderfully tasty, not dry at all, the brisket delightfully tender. Will come again when the dinner mood strikes pre 7pm.

I have eaten here several times. Wonderful. You know they make a great broth to their Pho. It's legit. I loved this place two years ago and still do!

K

I might have been delerious from the Flu...but the chicken and rice noodle pho literally gave me life haha. It's northern style....so more simple than other Pho you might have had before. Delicious, rich and flavorful broth with the most perfect noodles. Yum! My only regret is not trying it sooner. (PS. Get the imperial rolls you won't regret it)

A
Aischa Staal

Such a relief to finally have a delicous Bun dish! Lively flavors and a well balance dressing (I have had very wan fish sauce dressings before, not here of course, so disappointing). And all the herbs... mint, cilantro, shiso, and what I know as Vietnamese Cilantro!!!! Thank you!

With the abundance of Vietnamese restaurants in the neighborhood, My Father's Kitchen almost has a monopoly on pho and rice dishes. They specialize on chosen, quality food - a glance at the menu won't overwhelm you as it does at other places. Starters, pho, rice and vermicelli noodles. As other reviewers pointed out, this is Northern Vietnamese pho, focusing on the basics: no sprouts or basil, but fresh meat, a tasty broth, and thick noodles. My favorite here is the BEEF PHO ($9) - can't go wrong with that. Prices - it's not the Tenderloin or Sunset... expect to pay $9 for a pho and $11/12 for noodles dishes. Well worth it though as the restaurant is clean, presentation nice, and service friendly. Noteworthy: The coffee selection includes Blue Bottle drip, nice addition to the Vietnamese coffee.

Excellent food from a simple menu, shared with kind, understated service that makes you feel welcome. Fresh, light pho ga with carefully pulled chicken, and creamy peanut sauce with the fresh spring rolls. Nothing overdone, everything just right. Brought us back to Vietnam but minus the traffic and cigarettes. Reasonably priced, value.

While I agree with other reviews that mention the lack of bean sprouts and basil, I disagree that it needs those to be a good pho. The portion was very substantial and any restaurant meal under $20 after tips of this quality is rare to see in the city.

I can’t believe this place doesn’t have higher ratings. Easily my favorite Chicken Pho in the city. And I’ve tried most! The chicken is free-range and the soup is not too salty, oily, or greasy. Lots of scallions and everything is so clean tasting. They separate the noodles, chicken and veggies in a separate plastic soup container than the broth so everything is well-sealed and easy to manage, with no spillage. Love this place!

My favorite northern style pho place in SF. My friend told me about this place about 10 years ado and I’ve been coming here whenever I can . Their beef pho broth has clean and deep taste unlike from others where you taste MSG . Love coming here also because the service is great 😍 .

My Father's kitchen is the best phở Hanoi I had for a while. Their phở bò gà is authentic in broth flavor, delicate flat noodles (not those common dry ones), and chicken texture Definitely a new contender in San Francisco. Ended having 2 bowls in a row because it is soo good.

Had lunch here today. Had high expectations for the pho bo from prior visits a couple of years ago. Disappointed. Little flavor. No bean sprouts or other usual condiments. Has become a takeout joint for the medical centers. We will not be back

Savory Vietnamese dishes, with clean finishes. #6 Pho Bo Dac Biet - Beef Rice Noodle Soup Special while good, lacked the spiced fragrance common in pho broth. Noticeably missing were the beansprouts, Thai basil and cilantro. #3 Cha Gio - Crispy Imperial Rolls, the tasty standard, complete with lettuce, cilantro, carrot and daikon for wrapping before dipping. A nice lunchtime option on a stretch of Divisadero where there are so few Asian options. But flavors authentic may be better served in the Tenderloin.

So my primary complaint and as I look through the pics/reviews, the primary complaint many customers have against this restaurant is that the 5 spiced chicken dish is just too small. As a small Asian woman, I almost never have the complaint of too little food in an entree. But this place gives you 2 very small pieces of thin chicken. Rice is fine, and then dipping sauce plus some decor veggies. Honestly they just need to 3x the portion of chicken. Most other Vietnamese restaurants will give you prob 4x the portion for the same price or less. To fix this they can either make this dish an app instead or even charge more and give you an adequate amount of chicken. I think if they just fix this, this will fix the bad reviews they get. Like they give you such an offensive small portion, it pisses people off.

As a SF native, I have had my good share of pho. I was recommended to come to the restaurant by my sister, who really enjoys their food. I know a place will be good by the costumer service- if the staff are rude then the food will usually be HELLA good. However, this time around I was disappointed. When my group and I were seated everything was fine. It was until we began to order when we noticed our waitress being hella impatient, which I just thought was fine because that's usually how I measure the quality of my food lol. Personally, I have had better pho in the city, but I am not here to complain about that. As a person of color I sometimes think other fellow BIPOC will treat me with as much dignity and respect, which was not the case in this restaurant. Aside from our waitress being hella impatient, she was obviously annoyed with us and I personally noted the difference in character when other (White) customers walked in and picked up their orders. She very kindly asked them if they were to dine-in or pick up and actively smiled at them during their interaction. This was not at all our experience in this restaurant and not once did this lady smile as us LMAOO. It's truly disheartening to be as treated less than, especially in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the city by other BIPOC.

Thee WORST Soup and broth i ever had. Nothing about this is authentic not that it claims to be. Buyer Beware. As my 2nd time here due to the convenience and limited options near the hospital i can definitely say ill NEVER return. I have added White pepper, sesame oil, Szechuan pepper and it's STILL bad. I will eventually toss. What a waste. Additionally, the place could use a deep cleaning. There's stuff stuck to the walls. Dust perhaps. They keep the child booster seats in there bathrooms. I'm mortified

Food was ok. Both, my son and I had light headache, lightheaded and numbness after our meal. My question is, do they use MSG?

C

I had high expectations, but it fell very short. The pho had barely any taste and it was just scallions and meat. Come here for plates other than soup.

B

My wife and I had an hour to burn between our hospital visit and saw My Father's Kitchen directly across the street. Vietnamese is something we both like and regularly eat. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like this place is ran by those with a Viet background. The food tasted...off. I ordered the spring rolls which came with a peanut dipping sauce. It was extremely sweet and lacked any real peanut flavor. My wife ordered the pho and was disappointed in the quality of the broth. We won't be going back.

M
Mimi pettway

Their food is pretty good, but they always treat my mom and I differently compared to the white people. We always pay and give $10+ tips, but no matter what. They still treat us different. I won’t be coming again.

I am not sure who gave all the positive reviews to this restaurant given the number of excellent Vietnamese restaurants in the city. The pho was flavorless, bland. They probably did not cook it long enough to develop flavor. The noodles are the cheapest you can find that hold no soup at all and also bland. Surprisingly, the meat quality was ok, and that is why an extra star. They have no basil, no sprouts, no Hoisin sauce. When I asked, they gave me some cilantro and mint leaves. I think the place survives solely because it's surrounded by medical offices that need food fast.

I like Vietnamese food especially pho, so, it saddens me when I have to give low ratings. It’s overpriced. Small portions. Tasteless broth. Dirty utensils. Overcooked noodles. Friendly staff. Clean restroom.

Five spice chicken and rice (takeout) was around $13.50 out the door. See picture. Pretty bland, slightly overcooked chicken.

I had been wanting to try this place for years because it is nearby. I ordered the Imperial rolls. They are supposed to also have crab, shrimp, pork, but they didn't seem to have very much of any of those things. The rolls were very greasy and surprisingly flavorless. The dipping juice has some flavor, but without the juice, I was surprised that rolls with crab, pork, and shrimp could turn out to not be very tasty. Hopefully, the rest of the menu is better.

They only have rice noodles they don't have egg noodles which I prefer in pho. Just a simple lunch place it's clean. Not the best not the worst. I don't go here very often but it seems every time I do I think something's a little off. This time I realized the portion control is silly. I ordered a rice plate and it only had three smaller pieces of chicken, the big hunk of rice and that was about it. It was ridiculous.

D
Dario Cadoppi

The portions of the 5 spice chicken were laughably small.

S

Not a place for vegetarians/vegans. I feel sick. They filled my plate with leafy greens and some old rice noodles and really bad vegetarian imperial rolls. It was just a thick deep fried batter with no real filling. The lone star is because my buddy said his noodle soup was ok!
