Great little place. Apparently, we were there during an important baseball game. They showed the game at their screen but still the restaurant was almost empty. There is quiet a few seats outside but also inside. The food is amazing. Even though it may sound a little scary at the beginning the bone marrow was superb. The staff was super friendly and gave good recommendations. Definitely, check it out and enjoy
Very interesting and imaginative food. All of the appetizers were great, especially the oysters with caviar, uni, and salmon roe and the bone marrow and beef tartar. For the entrees, we had the pork chop was also delicious and perfectly cooked and the Wagyu beef. Great place for just drinks or a full meal. Not a huge dining room so I would highly recommend reservations for paid larger than 6. We will definitely come back soon.
Phenomenal food and service. The truffle burger is incredible, but there’s no wrong answer when it comes to their menu. Such a gem I came back a week later!
I've been many times to Perle and continue loving it. Both brunch and dinner are tasty, and staff is always very friendly. It tends to be a bit slow, which is never a problem for us but worth noting. (Seems like I've written this review 3 times now... Google Maps bug??)
Went on a Sunday 11am ish. They had a DJ playing a mix of old and current urban music. The crowd didn't start picking up until closer to 12-1pm. I had the French onion burger. Food and atmosphere was cute. I'd go again!
Great wine selection including a good by the glass champagne selection. The food and service surprisingly good at this price point. Just goes to show, good customer service orientation shouldn't cost more. It's a matter of creating a culture, hiring the right people and training them.
Last night was so special. We started with the Montclair Manhattan, so smooth and complex aromatics. This bistro bar concocts excellent, original cocktails by Rob at the helm. Then the board of charcuterie arrived with Mimolette, Chèvre, NDujia and Saussicon Sec, fresh bread, and many clever accoutrements including a pickled Julienne carrot melange. The mushroom pasta ragout and citrus salad were divine and followed by appropriate pairings of Cabernet Sauvignon and sumptuous Beaujolais. Portions are generous and grounds for a gourmet lunch the following day. A 10-year Sandeman port capped off the perfect evening to celebrate a colleagues’ new job in with Arthur Anderson in San Francsico. 10/10
Went to the new rendition week of September 15 and the food was delicious! Great addition to the neighborhood. We will be back for sure.
Have waited for quite a while to eat here and the Valentines dinner was an excellent first time. The oyster in the Amuse was one of the best moments I've savored. The meal was delicious journey and I look forward to returning for more. A wonderful gem in our village.
Recommended by a friend. Very unassuming on the outside and the name does not really describe the place. “Wine Bar?” It is a fine food restaurant! Everything that we had was beautifully prepared and served. The service was perfect and very helpful. The atmosphere was fine. Just a little relaxed and informal for such a top quality place. It was our first visit but we will definitely be back in the near future.
We’ve eaten at Perle for both dinner and brunch. Both are incredible but I have to rave about the brunch, which was the best brunch I’ve had in the Bay Area. The French toast with duck liver was the best French toast I’ve eaten in my entire life (and I’m a massive French toast snob). I’ve been thinking about it daily since we ate there. My husband had the eggs Benedict, which was also incredible, as were the potatoes served on the side of the French toast and Benedict. We also had the heirloom tomato salad, which was really unbelievably delicious. I recommend very highly.
PHENOMENAL. do not miss the burger!!!! Order the burger!!!! Even if it’s a burger for the table. This is my favorite burger in the entire Bay Area. Excellent menu, excellent service, excellent bartender (one of the best, truly), excellent atmosphere. This spot is SO needed in Montclair but also worth traveling to. Brunch prix fixe is also terrific. The portions were great. Perle is the best!!!!
A wonderful place to go for a Sunday brunch get away from SF! A total gem! We went for brunch on a Sunday after a walk to the farmers market and parking was free at the garage by the farmers market too! Perle is in a really cute area with many little shops to peruse. It's also kid friendly and the resgsursnt host helped us workaround for the children with allergies.
We come here every week because of Kristen (the host/ server)! She is fantastic, always so sweet and my daughter loves her. The food and wine options are great too.
Had lunch with a friend. Excellent flavors, quantity and service. The TVs were a distraction, for me, but I would totally recommend it.
This place is amazing! I come to Montclair a few times a year and am always looking for great food. This is by far my favorite restaurant in town. The bahn mi is delicious and fresh and comes with amazing pho broth. Also great selection of drinks. And the service couldn’t be more friendly and inviting. Perfect for lunch, dinner, or drinks!
The pork Bánh mì on the lunch menu is outstanding! Full of fresh flavor. I also had the non alcoholic jasmine honey tea which was excellent.
We were looking for a coffee and decided to stop here to try the brunch. The food was deliciously amazing, it was a special prix fixe menu for Easter. Service is great. One thing I'd like to see improving is the tables outside; with such amazing dishes, it is below expectations to have these tables that take so much dirt. Either change the tables or put table cloth please.
Perle is an excellent place to have brunch! They were so accommodating for a larger birthday by adding another table to fit the reservation. The food is excellent. I was able to order the deep fried oysters with deviled eggs as my first course along with a croque madam. I am extra interested in their burger for my next visit that comes with a small cup of French onion soup! The oyster shooters were also fresh and delicious as expected. They have a variety of mimosas to choose from! The live music is pretty awesome as well especially for a Sunday brunch. Ideally you want to set your brunch time as early as possible to avoid the rush especially if you have a larger party. The only drawback in my opinion would be the parking situation as there is a farmers market that happens in the area at the same time on Sundays. Just get there early enough to get your parking and you should be fine!
A jewel in the Montclair Village! My wife and I came here for our weekly date night after spotting it during the farmers market. It’s definitely more than a wine bar… there was ample seating and got a table right away. Food wise, the menu is creative, yet not outlandish. There’s a great selection of wines to try and fantastic in-house cocktails. We ordered the salad to share along with the mushroom ragout. Salad was amazing… the ragout was good, but I probably wouldn’t order it again. The Beef Tartar with Bone Marrow was great! If you find yourself in Montclair Village, we would highly recommend this spot!
A hidden gem in “mountains”! To the point French inspired cuisine, all prepared with love and delicious! Great deviled eggs and escargot, mains are large and delicious. Remember to get bread is you ordering mussels, dipping is mouthwatering!
Celebrated a very special milestone birthday of my partner's at this marvelous establishment, which honestly made the event that much better. Happy to have had been both recommended and invited to dine here by family who had raved about it. And for all the accolades given, Perle was not undersold in its excellence in attention to cuisine and wines. Just East enough away from the bustle of San Francisco, and shy, below the beautiful wine valleys of California, Perle Wine Bar is nestled cozily on a quiet posh street in Oakland. We dined one Thursday evening on the 25th of March 2021 to an a la-carte array befitting a tasting menu of much from what Perle has to offer. Bravo to the chef and kitchen as well as to the front of house and service staff for such a marvelous meal and such a wonderful experience which will keep our memories of our little celebration reminiscing your restaurant in equal favour.
Now this restaurant was so amazing. Every dish we ordered had so much flavor. It was my first time having bausoleil oysters and they were delicious, along with the sauces. The deviled eggs with the fried oyster and the salmon toast are a must have. Our grand finally was the fromage blanc, truffles and fennel raviolis.
Excellent Service and Great food. Owner is very Friendly and Nice. Staff is Great. Mushroom soup is to die for. Deviled egg is so tasty and flavorful with just a little hint of spicy. I loved my Waffle and Chicken. So moist and soft. A must to stop by and give thjs place a try.
A very distinctive French-Vietnamese cuisine.
Came here for Prime Rib Mondays with three of my good friends. It was our first time here, and needless to say we'll be back. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy and elegant, the service was attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious. Didn't manage to get pictures of the prime rib or salmon main course, but pictured are two first course options (mushroom soup and avocado toast), and the dessert course: pumpkin pie with berry compote. 😋
Food here is amazing. Oysters Uni was delicious. Desserts were wonderful. Everything we ordered from start to finish was good!

Came here when it was a French fusion restaurant a few times and loved the food. Coming back as a Vietnamese fusion spot is exciting!

I was really excited about visiting the reopening of Perle Bar and it did not disappoint!! The Vietnamese menu was such a delight to explore — we ordered family style so we could try a bunch of things and enjoyed them all but the standout dish was probably the beef carpaccio with bone marrow and a giant sesame rice cracker to enjoy it with. So so good. For every dish, the flavors were incredible, the herbs & greens were so fresh and the sauces were thoughtfully selected! Happy to see their drink menu is still amazing, plenty of wine, beer and cocktail options as well as some mocktails. I like the range of ambiance — there’s the more casual outdoor seating available while the inside felt more upscale and vibey — but never pretentious. So happy to have Perle back in the village!
I loved the old Perle and the new Perle Bar is even better. We had bahn mi and catfish vermicelli and both were so so so so excellent. My martini was perfection and I cannot wait to go back. It is the best restaurant open for lunch in Oakland. Truly. I love the vibe also- simple, calming, and unpretentious. The people are equally wonderful. Do not sleep on Perle Bar!
Came here for lunch and love it! Shaking Beef salad was especially fantastic. Also had the Coconut Curry chicken bowl which was great. Don’t sleep on the mango and strawberry “sinh to” drinks… very yum!
We’re so glad Perle is back — really tasty menu, great drink list, and excellent vibe. Highly recommend!!
The food at Pearl is absolutely delicious. Customer service la on point. Staff la attentive, respectful, epi yo bay yon great experience.”

We went for my Husband's birthday. Amazing service, our server (Danny) was outstanding! Although he was new to serving at this hour. He still was able to explain the menu, and best of all..for the information that he lacked, his willingness to immediately find out and understand was refreshing. The only negative was that they only have 1 bathroom, other than that I wouls have given them a 5 start rating. We will come back again..for sure!
Great restaurant and addition to Montclair. Feels like a really nice neighborhood restaurant in a great way. Nice inside but not stuffy at all. The food we had was inventive and very good. Well thought out wines by the glass that represent a good price spread across several good regions.
Beautiful little Sunday brunch here at this French bistro. It's tucked away in the Montclair neighborhood with a great local vibe. The unique starter of deviled eggs topped with a fresh fried oyster and a little bit of roe was amazing. The chicken and waffle was a distinctly French take with a small, plump sweet waffle and two tender pieces of bird. Frittatas and salad were amazing. So was the bread, as it should be at any bistro. I hear dinner is even better. Would love to try it.
Newbies in the neighborhood and just happened upon this place and it was a great experience. We were headed for sushi next door but got rejected because we didn't have a reservation even though they had 6 empty tables. Lucky for us! Alex was at the door at Perle and was strait forward about our chances, but didn't rule out getting in for dinner. We killed some time and when we returned he went out of his way to shoehorn us in at the counter. The place has that great classic bistro feel.. like you could be in any metropolitan city in the world. Our stoolmates we're friendly and entertaining, the bartender was attentive and made us feel like we were dining with family. Now the food.... Well for us it was fantastic! We're recent transplants from SF and we've dined in all sorts of restaurants all over the world and this place is at the top of our list. We had a great bottle of pino recommended by their sommelier, the oysters with Thai dipping sauce, beef tartar with bone marrow and trout roe, and the biggest muscles I ever seen with spicey meatballs. What a great combination! Every dish was plate licking good! Highly recommend this place for a friendly & casual dining experience. You won't want to leave....
Nice staff and ambience. Small portions, very small considering the prices. And for some reason the gentleman at the bar did not fill my wine glass properly, while I was sitting at the bar. Later on at the table, the next glass came properly. When you pay premium, you expect the right amount. Please be more careful. Thank you and thanks to everyone in the kitchen for the artsy plates.
Came for blues brunch and was quite impressed. Great food and a good value for $35. The citrus supreme salad was huge and loved the shrimp Louis. Very nice wine bar with great food. Really enjoyed the devilled eggs and tartare with bone marrow. Only issue is the wines are all pretty pricey. Would love it if there some sub-$10 glasses.
Been here a couple of times prior. Everything was delicious, except for the wagyu steak, good flavor but the meat was a little tough, thus the star drop. Some of my faves... deviled eggs topped with fried oysters & caviar, bone marrow with beef tartare & caviar, mussels in saffron broth, and the Berkshire pork chop (oh, so yummy)!! Service was impeccable as always!
Nice neighborhood spot in Montclair. The starters, wine and cocktails are quite good. The mains are a bit overthought and pricey with the exception of the burger which is excellent and a good deal. I’d recommend coming here to eat starters or a burger at the bar. The atmosphere is quaint but a little cold and could be significantly better if they made the entrance a little more attractive and added some acoustic treatments to handle noise.

We were really looking forward to our reservation at Pearl. The restaurant week menu looked tasty. While the atmosphere was nice, unfortunately the food was underwhelming, at best. Between the 4 of us, we had all the choices of appetizers, mains and dessert and, in complete honesty, nothing was very good (besides the soup). The meat dishes were over cooked and bland, as was the chicken; while the pasta was tasty, our friend commented that the sauce was “gloppy”. Since it was the last day of Restaurant Week, I’m trying to give the chef the benefit of the doubt, thinking they might be tired of cooking the same dishes for an entire week, but regardless, it just didn’t seem like there was much effort. I hate to have to give such a poor review, but as with anything, if critiques are not provided, we all can’t improve.
I really wanted to have a great meal here and had been planning the dinner with my mother for a while as we both enjoy French cuisine. unfortunately, I got food poisoning. I could taste something was 'off' in the chicken stuffed with crab and spat it out in my napkin. Some of it still went down and I was unwell for about 24 hours..I will say that when I communicated what happened to our server she was very gracious and told the kitchen what happened immediately. Kitchens can be very careful with seafood and poultry but it really only takes very mild contamination or slightly being undercooked to cause illness. I'm not sure if I will return as the experience really did leave a bad taste in my mouth.
The food was good, but be sure all the components are on your plate. The service was spotty. The owner when notified of a mistake in our order, argued to the point of making her customers uncomfortable. We spent a lot of money for a lousy experience.
I ordered a Sierra Nevada and the waiter brought me a East Bros IPA. I asked her if what she brought me was a Sierra Nevada and she said yes but on the tab she billed me for an East Bros IPA... Whatever I guess...maybe next time I'll order a quesadilla and shell bring me out a 10 oz porter house?? Lol!
