This restaurant is a neighborhood gem, even outdoors in COVID times. We've done their takeout, and were glad to get to go back last night where they've set up outdoor patio dining, carefully thought out with paper menus, very good heaters and piping hot food. And what a wonderful experience it was with great service at every turn, good cocktails, perfect salad, entrees and a little dessert we took home. I'm so glad this business has survived when many have not and I would never hesitate to recommend Italian Colors.

We tremendously enjoyed the food and the extremely friendly staff. We travel a lot but we will definitely return to Italian Colors when we visit the Bay area. If you love Italian food, don't hesitate and pay them a visit. We kept our promise and had diner again last night. If possible, this time around, the experience topped the first one. Food and family atmosphere are at the highest level.

We had a party of ten with reservations on the patio, including a high chair; It was absolutely delicious. The lobster on a stick melted away in our mouths. The Italian pasta tastes like it was all homemade. We shared dishes, it was all amazing. As well as good serves. Thank you!

Nice neighborhood Italian restaurant. Menu is more focused than many Italian restaurants but the food is excellent quality and presentation is good. Had live music on Friday night when we came.

The food was amazing I had to ceviche, as an appetizer, and then had a salad with bacon, avocado, and some other stuff on it absolutely amazing the music was played in person, and sounded amazing no stereo the atmosphere overall was very nice and it actually had me at the point where I didn’t even have my phone on I had it in do not disturb mode. That’s how peaceful it felt

The waitstaff & chef are amazing! I had my favorite dish that I was completely craving tonight. It was made perfectly. When seated, bread & water refilled & our orders taken; the staff were wonderful, attentive & funny. A fun evening with my family.

Always a good bet. Not your usual Italian place. Great seafood, and a varied wine selection.

The place was cold from a/c. The food was worth the long wait. Very small parking lot. Live guitarist played all evening.

I used to come to Italian Colors as a kid - it may have been 20 years since my last visit but had an absolutely FANTASTIC dinner with my Mom, my boyfriend, and his Mom on Sunday evening. Service was AMAZING - our server was very communicative and set expectations immediately. Wine was excellent, food was delicious and portions were generous. It definitely won’t take another 20 years before we come back again!

Italian Colors is the best Italian restaurant / one of the best restaurants in general I've been to in the bay area. All of the different food tasted amazing (a group of 7 of us all ordered different dishes and shared -- 5 different pastas, steak, and pizza), portions were huge, and time of waiting for food was so short. The service and ambiance were also top tier. The live music coming from the guitarist who has been working there for 20 years apparently, was so smooth and fun. And finally, I'd like to give a shout out to our awesome server Cesar. Really funny guy and an excellent host.

Chicken piccata was perfect and had a lemon zest that I liked. The fresh baked bread was amazing. I could've ate a whole tray of it. Everything was delicious. They also had a guitar player there and he was pretty jazzy.

This review is long over due. About a year ago after attending the lecture about the influence of Japanese art on Western Art at Holy Names University, we were hungry. I searched on the restaurant near by and this restaurant popped up with 4.5 stars and the only one that opened late. We didn't expect anything much other than satisfied our hunger that evening! So, we gave it a try. When we walked in, we were nicely greeted by the hostess and sat us down. To our surprise, the food was just amazingly out of this world besides the attentive service from our server. At the end of our meal, the owner came to our table and introduced himself and comped us with a surprised desserts! We were very stuffed, but didn't stop us for a couple of desserts! lol If you are happened to be around Piedmont (Oakland), please give them a try! Not only they serve delicious food, but the ambience isn't bad either! We highly recommend this restaurant! Happy dining!

This is a reliably good restaurant. Over many years I've never had a bad meal here. We had perfectly cooked lamb and duck. Also the dishes were not overly salty unlike many restaurants. We ate outside in the heated tent to avoid any covid issues. Dinners are moderately priced - for current prices. You really can't spend less than $100 for dinner for two with tax and tip. That is getting to be the norm these days.

Cool spot with outdoor seating and parking, family friendly, upscale dining, cocktails, and their sauces are really superb. Their dishes tend to be under-seasoned, but the meat and scallops were tender and juicy. A little on the high end for price but the quality and quantity of the food matched the price.

The food is fantastic, service is impeccable and wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. All the dishes are prepared to perfection therefore difficult to just pick one. From the simple Spaghetti and meatballs to Crusted Salmon every dish is delicious presented beautifully. The portion are just right and you will not leave hungry.

I really enjoy this place. Great food. Large portions and upscale while still feeling comfortable. The outdoor space is really enjoyable with tons or heaters and fire. The bar even has two tvs to watch sports. My only gripe is there is only one restroom for the capacity. Their Brussels sprouts are amazing.

Italian colors is a wonderful restaurant tucked away in a pocket retail space in Montclair off highway 13. The restaurant has only gotten better with age. Accommodations for pandemic safety include outdoor seating with heat lamps and windbreaks for comfortable dining even during foggy Oakland evenings. The servers are great, and the kitchen staff shows remarkable attention to detail. Entrees feature generous servings and include a wide range of dishes with offerings for vegetarians. The owner& chef Alan Carlson is passionate about his craft, never showy or splashy, but consistently devoted to turning out dishes that are by turns both classic and innovative. We've enjoyed numerous memorable evenings at Italian Colors, from delicious appetizers and drinks to flavorful entrees to perfect desserts. Highly recommend!

You would never know such a lovely restaurant was tucked away here. The staff were all so friendly, the atmosphere was amazing, and the food was decent. Our sever Laura was so sweet and made sure we had a wonderful experience. Honestly, the Focaccia was one of my absolute favorites things here. I cannot say enough how wonderful the person who greeted us, the person who brought our water and bread, and our sever Laura were.

Lots of parking on a Saturday, at 6:30pm. Sat outdoors, heaters would come on, if needed. We didn't need it 2 weeks ago. My group of 3 ladies, celebrating a birthday of one of them. All food choices fresh, flavorful, hot/ steaming. My chicken picatta, with mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, perfect. $25. Had left overs. My companions entrees , of salads, pizzas, enjoyable too.

We've been to Italian colors a number of times now and every time it is absolutely perfect. The food is wonderful, the service is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. The live music from the guitarist is a wonderful touch. I'm so glad they're such a great restaurant for me to go to. I will always be going back to this place

Went here with my sister and brother in law on a Friday night. The food was splendid. We started with calamari and it was one of the best calamari I’ve had and it’s my go to at most restaurants. I had the fettuccine pasta with shrimp and it was delicious my brother in law had a taste and he wanted to order himself a plate. We had a mushroom pizza which was tasty and my sister had the lasagna which was also yummy. I had my first espresso martini and it was the perfect pairing for dessert!

I recently made a reservation for a large group. They were very responsive and they made the reservation very easy. Unfortunately half of our group couldn't attend due to family matters. I felt terrible, but the staff was very understanding and accommodating. Our server was wonderful, I wish I got his name. (The evening of 12/10/23) The cocktails are classics with an upscale twist, as well as an extensive wine list. The food is excellent. I recommend the calamari, ahi tuna salad, duck confit and tiramisu. This was my first time here and I plan to go back on a date night or with friends sometime soon!

Delicious! They got us in last minute, on New Year's Eve. Our first time there. Their cocktails are worth the price. We had the prosciutto salad, the spaghetti and meatballs, and salmon w/ mushroom risotto. For desert, tiramisu.

Update: Who in the WORLD would think to do an upgrade on a corn dog by giving it a wild lobster center, a spicy herbal batter, and a new take of a remoulade New Orleans dipping sauce? Italian colors. That's who. Must be tried. Trust me. I can't put my finger on it, and in some ways I hope I never do, because the elusive nature of cuisine and a dining experience that is so perfect to me, probably shouldn't be fully explained. And this is why I excel at this. LOL. Because I know so little. There are people in my family that know everything about wine, and know everything about food, which is something I hope I never experience, because for the past few months I have just walked into Italian colors, and asked for the chef choose my evening's fare for me. The chef, ("El Chino", a mysterious and beloved character there at the restaurant who is said to have an advanced martial arts background) has obliged me each time, and performed what people in my family might consider a full-blown miracle. The chef and the staff, at Italian colors have succeeded in making me fall in love with foods that I have hated my entire life. Eggplant, beets, lamb, arugula, these were once curses spat at enemies in the heat of battle, and cauliflower. I really hated cauliflower. Well, I have now been forced to eat my words, along with these once dreaded foods, which El Chino, and the staff have transformed into stellar dining experiences, using simplicity, fresh ingredients, genius pairings, Thanks to Dylan, (the house manager I think), who has an astonishing knack for pairing food and wine, and has been something of an instructor for me and how to eat Italian food), And so far, it has been a stake raising game of calling my bluff Time after Time again. And every time they pull it off. Tonight my opening course was roast beets and mixed greens, with giant cheese, and a sherry-tinged dressing salad, a slightly sweet and palate awakening dish, (Note: that is not one but two foods I formerly hated in one single dish.) Paired with a Sicilian Girolamo Russo Etna Rosso 'A'rina', a blended wine, whose depth and earthiness. Perfectly with the acidity of the beet salad. My main course was the "Forno", an Herb marinated half rack of lamb served medium rare, with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and while they brought out a knife, I could have just this easily eating it with a spoon. It was the most tender lamb I have ever had and when I asked, the chef informed me that it had been in a sous vide process, for hours and then reverse seared for presentation. Astonishing. This is yet another food I did not appreciate until I ate here. This was paired with an incredible Fabio Motta 2019 2019 Bolgheri Rosso Rosso Pievi, ruby red blend of Merlot and Cab, with a fresh and crisp nose, and undertones of berries and smoke, which cut through the unctuous fatty goodness of the Lamb, and balanced the entire meal out. Some beauty in the world often remains behind the veil, while some, deserves to be seen and enjoyed. This is the latter class. Now, on to last week's review. LOL I'm fairly sure, the chef, the front of the house, and the entire staff for that matter, don't really know how good they are. There is something magical that happens when you take High cuisine and put an earthy, family vibe to it, especially with Italian cuisine, which varies incredibly, from overdone and over-presented food, to minimalist rustic ingredient-driven cuisine with less heat cooking and more genius simple natural flavor combinations and parings. But when you take the higher elements of Italian cuisine, and make it earthy, inviting, and almost working class, for me, that is magic beyond the CIA, or Cordon Bleu, devoid of pretension, but still absolutely meaningful and memorable, by any estimation as a holistic dining experience. Amazing food, amazing people, and an amazing experience. I'd give it 10 Stars if I could. Piero

What a gem near the Montclair village! We recently moved from the City to the east bay hills and we have been used to some great food in the Noe Valley area, almost being "snobbish" in a way. When we researched our new home we looked up all the restaurants we wanted to try and Italian Colors was one of them. The restaurant decor is a bit like 80's/90's Italian modern, but it's cozy and family friendly. There was live music playing up near the bar with two TV's playing the Warriors game. A little something for everyone! Food wise, it was really good! I ordered the Risi E Bisi soup and the Linguine Vongole. Both were outstanding! The soup was exceptional! The Vongole was really good too. My wife ordered the Beet salad and the Ahi and she loved both dishes. Service was very friendly and pleasant. Overall, top notch spot and will probably be one of our GO TO restaurants in the new hood!

My girlfriend and I hadn't seen each other in months so she drove through the tunnel and we shared two starters, our entrees and a couple of desserts and left so extremely satisfied! We're coming back with our hubbies for double date night and looking forward to all of us having a wonderful gastronomic experience!!!

Wow! What can I say? First of all we found this little hideaway of a secret by making an unexpected exit off of highway 13. We were a little skeptical due to all the construction going on. But once we entered the restaurant we were pleasantly surprised by a beautifully decorated dining area with art and a grand setup. Now first of all the food was practically perfect! We we're fortunate enough to visit the restaurant on it's 25th year anniversary. If you ever get a chance to try this restaurant you MUST try their Avocado Toast. It is truly a life changing experience. The taste was just deliciously incredible! The one and only apparent downside to this dining experience is that you must walk through a cluttered and busy kitchen just to get to the restroom. Let's hope this is only a temporary setback. Last but definitely not least try to try their homemade extra extra extra virgin olive oil with bread or on a house salad. I believe you won't be disappointed because we definitely were not! Thank you and enjoy!

I returned for the first time in a dozen years. The food was surprisingly good, and the service was surprisingly lousy. We sat for 10 or 15 minutes before being asked for a drink order, and only then because I had flagged down the host and asked her to find us a server. Then, I asked the server if we could have separate checks for the two couples, and he said "we don't do that here." That was okay with me, but at the end of the meal he showed up with separate checks and made a big deal about how he is a manager and so he can do it. I took it to be BS and just a ploy to get a big tip for his generosity in bending some fictitious rule.

Went here for dinner with 2 older uncles. The restaurant is nice. We were seated immediately at a busy time with no reservation. The food was very good and plentiful. One server was nice enough to come over and serve the salad we ordered to split. Food came out pretty quickly. Prices are decent for nice Italian restaurants. They have some unusual cocktails on the menu, including make your own Manhattan. There was live music with guitar player, and it was hard to have a conversation close to the musicians. Would definitely recommend it but ask to be seated far from the music if you are with anyone hard of hearing.

The food here is consistently fresh and good. I had the Delgiorno with seafood and pasta. More than I could eat, so had a great lunch the next day! My husband had spaghetti and meatballs. Although good, he thought they were a little dry. Service was friendly and good.

♿️Italian Colors has wheelchair accessible seating, entrance and toilet. For the entrance, there are no steps to enter. There are a couple of steps inside for one section of the restaurant. Italian Colors has solid comfort food and is family friendly. Our son loves ordering the penne pesto pasta when available, and they kindly make it even when it's not on the menu. Also nice kid's menu and crayons. We also like the gnocchi, the linguine vongole, duck, and chicken piccata.

I came here for a memorial lunch and I really enjoyed it with just a few reservations. They do not have gluten-free pasta or pizza which should be in every place in my opinion. They did have a delicious salad and chicken. Other people enjoyed the pasta. The people who run the restaurant are very nice. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is nice with art on the walls. I would like to come back. The location is nice as well.

This was a take out order. The pizza was not completely cooked. They changed a 15% gratuity on top of a service charge. Do not recommend. Have been going to Italian Colors for years. The quality has gone way down hill.

So disappointed. Was there a few weeks ago and had a very delicious chicken parm. Went back the other day and was told they only have it on the menu occasionally. Given there is eggplant Parm on the menu, not sure why it's not a regular item. What we had wasn't nearly as good.

I called before I ordered specifically asking how fulfilling the veggie lasagna was and the guy told me it was very fulfilling. When I got there it cost me $30 after charge with to go fees. Nevertheless the lasagna was skimpy the even a child would still be hungry. I’m upset and over charge for skimpy and one layer of lasagna. This place is over charged. I also had to ask for my own silverware and napkins after being charged a service fee. I wouldn’t recommend.

8 in the morning and the restaurant has left out silverware wrapped in napkins and bread plates on the outdoor patio🤢🤮 Whether they use them or not, makes me question their cleanliness

First time coming here order a steak and a pasta. And the steak I order was well done and it was still raw and it had no season rather just simple salt and the put too much salt. Then I order Marinera Pasta it had no seasoning too simply and not only it’s expensive their food 0/10 in my choice. After coming here I was sick all night I don’t recommend coming here there seasoning is too simple Thanks. 🙏

I went there on the advice of my girlfriend who ate there years ago as a kid. It was me her mother and her. The absolute worst and most expensive Italian restaurant I ever had. None of us finished our food. Maybe at one time it was great. food was garbage. Someone even had the audacity to forge my tip amount on my receipt. Food was so bad I didn't tip. I paid with a debit card when I went to look at my bank statement I guess someone decided to fill in a $10 tip for themselves. We all agreed the food was straight garbage. I've been trying to call the restaurant it goes straight to voicemail.

Fish&chips were super thin so called petrale sole more like Dover sole, all panko breading. Worst fish&chips I have had in a long, long, time. My wife got the lamb chops and the presentation was not good with a big splotch of green sauce on top.Won' be going back anytime soon. The guitarist as always was excellent!

I dont like that they do a 15%service charge to ho orders its a charge thats automatically added to the bill . When the foods already expensive enough as it is i understand tipping if you dine in and were getting dishes tables chairs dirty and they have to pick up coean our mess and take orders from us ! But why should we pay for service charge when were getting food to go ! And were not making a mess or enjoying being at the restaurant makes no sense just an extra charge for the restaurant
