Growing up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I was totally spoiled by the food — especially the green chile and red chile that you just can’t replicate anywhere else. Even though I’m a California native by birth, I spent my most formative years in New Mexico, and that shaped my palate in a permanent way. Over the last 20 years living in the Bay Area, I’ve been on a quiet mission: every time a friend from high school or middle school in New Mexico came to visit, I’d try to find a restaurant here that could even remotely live up to what we were raised on. I’d take them to places I thought might pass muster — and every time, they were politely disappointed. So was I. But today changed everything. I think I may have just found the best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever experienced in California — hands down. And no, I’m not exaggerating. 🌮 Taqueria La Comales Mexican Grill in Oakland • 🌶️ They will make it spicy if you want it — not just California-spicy, but real-deal chile heat. • 🥑 Fresh, high-quality ingredients that taste home-cooked, not mass-produced. • 💸 Extremely affordable — the kind of value that’s almost impossible to find in the Bay now. • 🫓 Authentic flavor — I mean it. The chile here sings. It reminded me of home. If you grew up on Hatch green chile and are constantly chasing that familiar, soulful flavor, this is your spot. I can’t even tell you how good it felt to finally taste something that honored where I come from.

Best tacqueria in the East Bay. They can do no wrong. The food is always fresh and everything made to perfection. They are the best. Go to is the Super Shrimp Burrito, spicy with everything.
