I didn't think much of the decor when I first started going here, but they have made some improvements and with COVID they have adapted well. The menh selection is good. We really enjoyed the corn quesadillas, chimichangas, and chile verde. They also have a great chicken soup! Highly recommend as it's close to the theater and faster and more affordable than La Penca.
Great for a quick bite. Great, friendly service. We will definitely be going back for a meal. The best quesadilla I've had in a long time.
Perfectly made food. Reasonable price. I've been eating here since I was a young kid. Staff are very nice. One of Alameda's best.
My favorite place to eat dinner with family before we go to the theater next door. Their combination plates are huge, and really tasty. A must-visit on movie nights.
Little quick drop in joint with good seating, salsa bar and great food. Cheap eats and right next to the Alameda theater. Great for cheap and handy date options!
Service was friendly and helpful. We only had one beef taco and drink each, but the taco had really tasty seasoning!
I last visited several years ago and had not been at all impressed. At a recent visit, however, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. I shall return.
One of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever eaten at. Great atmosphere, super reasonable prices and everything that I tasted was fresh and delicious. Get sopapillas! You can pay with card and there's a decent amount of seating.
The al pastor is really good and their salsa are really good too. The red had a smokey taste and the verde definitely has kick to it and is spicer than the red salsa. The burritos are well priced and you get chips with your order.
Their portion size was big “that’s what she said “😆. I only needed to order 2 shrimp tacos 🌮 when in SF they charge way more for smaller portions. I was shocked how flavorful it was and how pleasant the male cashier was . The cashier was also handsome but I digress . The cook brought out my food to my table and I felt like I was at home . Even when I went to the bathroom everything was really clean 🧼! It’s Tuesday and didn’t even realize it’s “taco Tuesday “ till I wrote this review . I’ll definitely come back 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I came in on Friday afternoon and the chicken mole caught my eye. I asked the gentleman to see if it was good and he said yes and I trusted him. So I went back the office with my meal and it was so good. The chicken mole was so delicious with the beans and rice, and I made it into a taco with the corn tortillas. The restaurant has been the same since 1987 as the gentleman mentioned it when I was picking up my food.
A small yet big tasting Mexican place. I had the Albania’s Soup and 2 carne asada street tacos. Both were delicious and filling. Service was helpful and although place was quiet it appears to have a lot of take out orders.
A very good authentic Taqueria in the heart of downtown Alameda. A big menu and many tasty salsas at the salsa bar! I got a veggie burrito with pinto beans and it was excelente! The horchata drink was good too. The place is pretty well maintained. A good spot for a quick, no frills burrito experience.
Taqueria Viva Mexico makes really tasty burritos with generous portions and good prices. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they are really fast at preparing and getting the orders ready. I love the Bean & Cheese burrito with jalapeños accompanied with their red salsa.
Great food excellent service. 2 big pastor taco plate was great. Couldn't eat it all.
Authentic and absolutely delicious Mexican food. The quesabirria tacos are legit!
I was very impressed with Viva Mexico! I ordered a pastor taco and a chili verde enchilada. The taco was phenomenal and I would definitely order one next time. The tacos are also big and filling. The enchilada was also good. I was not overly impressed with the rice, though. I also tried a ceviche tostada and it was very fresh, delicious and filling. I will definitely come here again.
That was great food I come here two or three times a week and always great.

I love this place! It’s always such great tasting food when I go and eat. Their food usually has a great amount of portion for what’s ordered. Love the wet burritos with green sauce (salsa verde) and the steak fries! I’ve been going here for years and my only complaint is the parking lol. No parking but paid parking is almost always filled up or paid street parking. Plan ahead as you’ll be driving a bit to find parking but the food is worth the wait!!! Great place to eat at. And have restrooms inside as well.
This is the best taqueria on the island! The fish tacos are amazing and the taquitos are a must (they reheat like a dream in the air fryer).

Viva Mexico is great for that comfort burrito you crave. Solid food all around, quick service, open late... Call ahead by about 10 minutes for no wait. The avocado salsa at the salsa bar is delicious!
Torta bread wonderful, fries seasoned great, steak inside chimichnga not the best pretty gristly, great prices and portions, Chile relleno tasty :) nice staff
Been coming here for years out of convenience, but just recently started exploring the menu beyond burritos. The taquitos are amazing and not what you'd expect. These suckers are more like flautas in that they are much larger than any taquito I've seen. I order the chicken taquitos and they are huge, stuffed full of extremely juicy and flavorful shredded chicken, then deep fried and smothered in a shredded cheese blend, smashed avocado, and sour cream. It's a glorious guilty pleasure. I also tried for the first time a crispy chicken taco, where I'd normally order traditional street tacos. This taco had a lovely, very crispy shell with that tender, juicy shredded chicken filling with choice of pico on the inside. Then, the taco is drowned in a salsa roja that has a strong buffalo wing sauce influence. What I DO NOT recommend is their tamales, which breaks my heart because I am a tamale fiend and their tamales are just... Not good. The masa has an almost gelatinous texture and there is way too much of it in comparison to filling. Disappointing to put it nicely.
Good tacos. Tried the beef and chicken, both well stuffed with minimal toppings but loads of flavor. Free chips while I waited and a nice assortment of freshly made salsas.
Excellent chicken soup, it was great. I haven’t tried anything else yet but will go back. The atmosphere is casual but the staff is friendly and the menu large. I will go back for more.
Super solid taqueria. Taquitos are fresh, quality and delicious wrapped in flour tortillas. Tamales so good, whole beans seasoned to perfection. Def go back, nice change.
4 flautas beans rice plate with 3 tortillas can soda and small flan $35 it’s a little too much I think $8 bucks for the extra 2 flautas it’s a lot but the food is good A-1 I’ll give them that..
I’ve only had 2 different burritos from here. They were good for my taste and expectation on a burrito.
Very delicious burritos, worthy of 5 stars in terms of food quality alone. However, they need to work on getting customers' orders labelled correctly. Either its the right burrito, wrong label, or wrong burrito, right label. Little things like extra hot sauce and type of beans also get lost in translation. That being said, even when they get your order wrong, it still tastes good!
Friendly, fast. Pretty authentic food. They have things like tongue that are hard to find at other Mexican restaurants. Ceviche is good, as are the burritos. Rellanos are hard to keep fresh (they are ok) and the salsas are good but none are really hot. Overall good, not spectacular, but reliable and tasty!
Staff is always friendly, wait time is never unbearable, and good is always fresh and made to order. I've tried a variety of items and have enjoyed them all. Portions are generous, and prices won't break your bank
Pretty good food, the prices weren't too bad, parking can be a pain in this area at times.

Stopped in with the family for a quick bite before a movie and was pleasantly surprised. Food is just fine and reasonable priced, and also came out quick. The carnitas tacos were a tad oily and the onions were cooked (?) but the tacos were overall good. Kids were happy with their bean and cheese burritos. Chips were good and the salsas decent. We will be back when we need another quick bite.

One of Alameda's older Mexican eatery that has been around for ages. Inside feels dated and if I were to say around what year? I would say late 80s to early 90s. There's no effort to concealed anything just all out business of serving food and drinks. I was across the street at Peet's finishing up my report before the 4:15pm deadline. Afterwards, I stroll in giving them another try. My last experience was years ago when I was with another media company. So, I got in line and place my order. I must say workers are friendly, but needless to say, the food needs improvement. It's hard to find a place with both these days, but it's possible. My chicken super burrito was kinda bland even El Tapio sauce couldn't revive it.
🌞Pleasant climate reasonable and readable menu with prices matching the going rate in the area. I perfer fish entree even though its in abundance; would like to see the price go down more. You have to prove that the epedmic was induced by seafood and urchins water fish/entree.🦞🦐🦑🦀 Seating outside in mid shade sunlite like most sane inhabitants enjoying the diversity of Park Blvd in hot, sunny climate. I am now naturally 2 shades darker then yesterday. Nice to see tricker/treators out and about during the whole day with escorts and groups of all ages securing their guidance.🍯
I have been a patron of Taqueria Viva Mexico for about 10 years now. I tend to keep it simple and order some sort of burrito: bean & cheese, chicken chimichanga, or Viva Mexico Burrito - chicken. The items mentioned above are decent and they hit the spot but I always get a terrible headache afterwards. It is a great place to eat if you are hungry and don’t have a lot of money. Example: #13 Bean & cheese burrito, chips and small drink is $4 and some change. #15 chimichanga, chips, and small drink is $5 and some change. It’s not the best Mexican food I’ve ever had but it will do. It is my belief that the best Mexican food is found in contra costa county. Side note: Mexicali Rose (RIP) did have the absolute BEST chicken tacos, though.
Food was ok. We had huevos rancheros but the eggs where over cooked and the salsa they use is the one the use for their chips and salsa. It was cold. Not the right way to make Huevos rancheros.
Food is prepared fast, the atmosphere is nice and there is plenty of comfortable seating. The food is ok and is just missing something to give it that real authentic Mexican taste.
The Rice okay. Flautas were wet from what they put on it so it fell apart. A big menu. The cheese Steak fries didn't have much steak nor cheese but we're probably the best thing I had. Employees were nice. Not crowded only 3 customers when I was there. Plenty of seating available. Does have 20oz bottles of coke zero so that bumped up the stars on the review. Also they have fountain drinks. Parking across the street if not available in front.

Love, love, loved this place. We were going everyday until I noticed that one of the workers /bus person was cleaning tables and used gloved hands to put the trash in the garbage. Ok you say there's more. Some of the trash and old food was on the lid of the garbage can and they used the same gloves to wipe the lid to push the food/trash into the can, but then again without changing gloves, washing hands or anything ,they started helping pass out orders to customers, and then touch a piece of something to eat with the SAME gloves and began eating. No fork or spoon! I want to go back because the food is delicious. Just don't know about cleanliness.😔
It was the okayest Mexican food I've ever had. Flavor wasn't there. Service was good. Staff was friendly. Restaurants a bit on the dirty side, but not terrible. The biggest gripe was just the lack of flavor in the food. Still not the worst Mexican food I've ever had. It was just the okayest.

While the food was good, I didn’t appreciate a $5.00 tip being added to my receipt by the staff after we left. Make sure you fill out the tip line even for counter service.
The burrito was OK. It didn’t have a lot of great flavor and the temperature was warm at best.
I came here and got a combo plate with ground beef enchilada and ground beef taco with refried beans and rice. The beans and rice was very flavorful but the enchilada and taco wasn’t good. The ground beef wasn’t seasoned and it seemed like it was twice cooked which dried it out and made not good. The enchilada red sauce wasn’t a good flavor either and the taco had the same quality of meat. Pittsburg ca had a location with the same name as this place and their food was absolutely AWESOME but this place in Alameda is not even close. I’m giving it two stars because the lady working the cash register was really friendly and nice. When you get Mexican food the sauce and the meat has to be seasoned, fresh cooked and flavorful to win the taste war. I might try something else here to see if it’s better but hopefully they see this review and step their game up. I wasn’t happy overall with the taste of my main course.
Food was truly disappointing. Chips were bad. Salsa was bad. Cheese enchilada was bad. Sauce on top of enchilada was bad. Beans were vinegary. Rice was over seasoned. Service good and friendly. Lighting inside was bad. Prices were cheap. They got a steady stream of customers though.

No 👎🏽 bad 💯 waste of $56.08 food had no flavor at all . So bad that The rice was soggy and the 🥩 ! Zero flavor.
Sub par Mexican food, even worse service. They gave us the wrong order and refused to fix it. We were very polite about it and they just insisted that we ordered enchiladas (which I cannot eat and would never order). The food wasn’t even good, which could have salvaged the experience.
My sister went in and bought me some quesabirrias, from other reviews i’m not sure if they put less effort into takeout orders compared to dine in but this food was not good. So much tortilla for almost no meat! My sister went back and told them that she didn’t like the food and some lady said “oh yeah They weren’t crispy enough right”. Like even they know that they don’t make their food the right way. I don’t know but they did not remake, refund, or even have the right hospitality in response to what my sister told them.
My review was taken down. JUNE 23, 2022 Unfortunately I found a COCKROACH in my kids bean and cheese burrito. 🪳🪳🪳
