Incredibly cheap prices for SF (<$10), delicious flavors, and free soymilk with each meal makes this a must go for any cold days in the Sunset! The braised chicken noodle dish is amazing, as the meat actually melts in your mouth! If you can find parking, definitely pay a visit to this hole in the wall!
Great neighborhood restaurant. They focus primarily on soups with a dry option (meaning broth on the side for dipping). If you're ever in the mood for duck, this is a good option. The braised duck leg soup with wontons (pictured) was delicious! The wontons were on the smaller side though. They also offer a tasy, complimentary soy milk. It comes hot or chilled.
Delicious noodles similar to bak chor mee in Singapore (choice of mee pok, mee kia, hor fun with pork, prawn fish cake, kidney, wonton topping). Order soup or dry style, I ordered dry style and there wasn't much sauce but a lot of soup, made me wonder whether they gave me soup style by mistake or whether their dry style is just a tiny container of chili sauce. Nice lady at the counter took my order and answered my questions patiently when I was trying to figure out which noodle on their menu had all the toppings I wanted.
This place is a total gem! It's a family run business and all the dishes are super affordable and taste like home! On top of that, you get free soy milk if you dine in! My favorite dishes are the chicken ho fun noodle soup for those cold SF days/nights and the tomato beef stew with ho fun noodles. If you haven't tried this place, make sure you give it a shot! :D
This place serves some bomb a$$ noodles! If you dine in, you'll get free hot or cold soy milk. I got some Vietnamese egg rolls to try - they're so small and cute! Tasty too! As for the main star of my lunch, I got the braised duck leg egg wonton noodles - dry and with wide egg noodles. When it's dry, they toss the noodles in a garlic oil and sauce and then give you soup on the side. They also give you pickled cucumbers as a side. That braised duck leg is so tender and flavorful. The wontons are okay but everything else makes up for it. I can't wait to come back and eat their other noodle varieties!
This is the place you come to get some Vietnamese comfort food. I got #9 which is the braised duck leg with thick egg noodles & a warm cup of soy milk. The portion was generous and I still had some leftover for dinner! I would bring my parents here whenever they come and visit, they enjoy it too.
I had the most amazing dining experience at Thai Nghiep My Gia in Sunset San Francisco. As a fan of authentic Chinese cuisine, I was overjoyed to find a place that specializes in mouthwatering duck noodle and wonton dishes. The combination of flavors and textures was a true delight for my taste buds. The duck noodle dish was an absolute standout. The tender duck meat, perfectly cooked noodles, and fragrant broth created a symphony of flavors that I can still taste in my memory. It's evident that the chefs pay great attention to detail and use high-quality ingredients to craft their dishes. The wontons were equally impressive. Each bite was a burst of savory goodness, with the delicate wrapping and savory filling showcasing the mastery of Chinese culinary techniques. It's rare to find such authentic and flavorful wontons outside of traditional Chinese enclaves, and Thai Nghiep My Gia exceeded my expectations. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, providing a comfortable backdrop for a satisfying meal. The staff was attentive and friendly, eager to make sure every diner's experience was exceptional. If you're a fan of Chinese-style duck noodle and wonton dishes, Thai Nghiep My Gia is an absolute must-visit. The dedication to authentic flavors and the impeccable execution of each dish make it a hidden gem in the Sunset neighborhood. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to savor these delectable dishes again!
This place is so good that I prefer it over anything from Vietnamtown in South Bay and Little Saigon in Orange County. I ordered the seafood hu tieu and immensely enjoyed all the flavors and textures. The crispy egg rolls were also delicious and tasted homemade. Everything here is fantastic; I’m sure you can’t go wrong with any selection from the menu. The staff are also very pleasant and prompt; I haven’t had to wait for a table or very long for my food.
Food is extremely delicious and made fast. The duck leg was so tender. Service is also very friendly.
There was a small wait during a weekend lunch, like 5-10min. The host/owner was very friendly! The food didn't take too long but wasn't super fast (not like a pho restaurant where it's just cooked ahead of time) so it felt more freshly made. I ordered the dry noodles with braised duck leg. It came with a side of broth. The portions are large and the food was delicious! I would come back here again. I also got the fresh soy milk, which was in a smaller cup than I expected. Still good though. They were very attentive. Our table was missing the jalapeno jar. which my friend likes. They must have seen us looking for it because they brought it over right away without us asking. Small restaurant but doesn't feel claustrophobic or loud
Menu No. 49, broth on the side. Braised so perfectly that meat falls off the bone. The duck fat from the legs dripping into the noodle make is so delicious
My parents had a craving--no, a calling--for the kind of Vietnamese-Chinese noodle soup that could awaken old memories and warm the soul. I was determined to find the very best in the city, a place worthy of their nostalgia. That quest led us to Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia, tucked away in the heart of San Francisco's Sunset District. The moment we stepped in, the air was rich with the scent of simmering broth. We were seated instantly, greeted with a smile that felt like an old friend welcoming us home. Then came the bowls--piping hot, fragrant, and full of flavor. One sip of the broth and we were transported straight back to the bustling streets of Saigon, where time slowed and every bite was a memory reborn. The atmosphere was laid-back yet full of life, the service warm and attentive, and every spoonful felt like an embrace from the past. For anyone seeking not just a meal, but a journey--I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Have been here almost 10 times this past year, if you like home style. Get the duck noodle soup! Trust me. Plus the family that runs things soooo sweet, make sure you are friendly when you visit, they deserve the world!
Excellent restaurant with a focus on wonton noodles with a incredible duck leg in a wonderful soup. The soup is very good with a nice complexity and can be served on the side which is recommended. The duck is extremely tender and flavorful. You can add the soup into it as you eat. The table is stocked with lots of condiments. Also you can have either hot or cold soy milk which is complementary which is also a wonderful touch especially in cooler San Francisco. We really enjoyed our meal but it can get crowded and the owner is very very nice, other servers however are a little less friendly.
So good! The duck was perfectly rendered, and soup was amazing. Staff were very welcoming and sweet! Did not disappoint I got #10
A must try Vietnamese - Chinese noodle store. Egg noodles is the best either thin or flat one! We’re recommended by friends to try. Wide selection of Chinese-Vietnamese noodle soups, with egg noodle options. Not sure which number item on menu as i just ordered exactly picture shows online. We got: Mix combination meat with wonton and thin egg noodles - soup on the side. Also added one duck leg and plate of fried fish cake. — Noodle bowl comes with good portion of noodle, big filled wonton, mix of toppings : shrimp, ground pork, kidney, mini fish ball, crispy shrimp crackers. Simple dish but really good. I like the fish ball which must be house made. The shrimp crackers’s just ok - not special. The soup bowl separately on side. Have one bite of noodle and one sip of fresh soup. Just so good. You may find the broth is too simple, can’t compare to the full flavored Pho broth. But i think it’s simply make it a great dish really. However in my opinion, It will be perfect if they can add some greens like bokchoy or carrot. 4.9/5 On table you will see some extra seasoning sauce like with vinegar, jalapeño pickles , chili oil, hoisin, sriracha and soy sauce. — Duck leg’s braised so it’s very soft, fell out of bone easily. Ppl will think it’s chicken. As duck’s usually tougher. I think The way it’s cooked long enough to soften the meat. 5/5 — Fried fish cake: very soft but needs more flavor. 3.5/5 — Vietnamese coffee: perfect!!!!! 5/5 Overalls: good dine in experience. Customer service ‘s great / very friendly. It can get very busy in the lunch time - Parking may be difficult. Paid street parking and make sure to park closed by or in front of restaurant so you can keep eyes on car. Restroom is clean. Note: Some customers said there’s complimentary hot soy milk. As i already ordered the Vietnamese coffee and had not been offered about the soy milk. So i will check out to try it next time and the spicy satay beef noodle soup with special peanut broth.
Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Portion to Price: 5/5 Overall: One of my go to spots when I'm wanting a good bowl of Pho. You just have to go before they close at 630. The extended review... Food: Duck with Pho and Egg Noodles - 5/5 - An excellent dish! I've never had a place that has duck noodles for a good price. Service: 5/5 - Very hospitable and friendly service. Ambiance: 3/5 - A bit of a hole in the wall. Portion to Price: 5/5 - Can't beat this place!
Best braised duck leg noodle soup with wontons on earth!!! A MUST VISIT IN SF!
Parking was on a metered street. It was definitely busy, and the restaurant had a constant stream of customers, always a good sign. We checked out the Vietnamese Rice Noodle Soup and the fish cakes, with egg rolls on the side. It was excellent! We would eat there again, especially as the price was very reasonable. The Thai Tea was also tasty.
Amazing! Recommend getting the braised duck noodle soup with the soup on the side. 10/10.
Great place for noodles! The atmosphere is borderline a hole in the wall, mom & pops place. Service was super friendly. Only been here once but was very happy with the food. Had #9, braised duck leg with wonton and egg noodle. Definitely hit the spot! Would come back.
8/19/2021 Update: Indoor dining is back! I spoke with the waitress and she said they reopened for indoor dining since July 2nd. We had the #24 seafood wide egg noodle and rice noodle and #7 duck leg with wonton egg noodles with the soup on the side. Everything was exactly the way I remembered it. The dry noodles were awesome. I love how plain everything tasted with authentic Chao Zhou flavors. We don't have to drive to the TL anymore to sit down and have some Cambodian style dry noodles. Original review: Takeout 4/10/2021. Indoor dining is not available. Thai Nghiep Ky is a Vietnamese Chao Zhou (Chiuchow) restaurant. It is boldly written in Chinese at their front window. I had their braised duck leg with wonton egg noodle dry style $10.50. We are fortunate that we have so many varieties of noodle choices in San Francisco. The braised duck leg was the highlight of this dish. The meat was flavorful and soft. I like how I can dip the noodles on the side of soup. The addition of pickled vegetables and wontons were nice. I will have to come back and try their other noodles. Service was excellent as my noodles took about 15 mins to make.

Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia is a fantastic spot for authentic and flavorful food. The dishes are always fresh, rich in taste, and consistently satisfying. Service is impressively fast, even when it’s busy, and everything comes out hot and well prepared. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable, which makes it an even better value. If you’re looking for delicious food, quick service, and affordable prices, this place is definitely worth visiting. Highly recommended.
Love this place, delicious Vietnamese-Chinese noodle bowls. The highlight is the dry noodle and the sauce it comes with. They will offer you free soy milk with your meal. One of the best bowl of noodles I've ever tried in the city. This is a sleeper hit and a gatekeep worthy joint. Though if you are reading this, the secret's out. Come by for lunch and you'll leave happy.
Menu No. 49, broth on the side. Braised so perfectly that meat falls off the bone. The duck fat from the legs dripping into the noodle make is so delicious
Next time I'm here I'll wait a little bit before eating the noodles after they put it down on the table. The noodles weren't completely cooked but they probably did this so it doesn't get too soggy as you eat it. I got the braised duck leg with won ton ho fun. The ho fun didn't expand much as it tends to. There was plenty of meat in the duck leg. The wontons were smaller than I expected, but still good. I almost drank all of the soup! The complimentary soy milk (for dine-in) was sweet and didn't taste watery.
I’ve driven by this place countless number of times and finally a friend suggested lunch here. Sure why not! Walked in and almost all the tables were taken so that told me the restaurant was a good choice! I ordered the Vietnamese ice coffee and the seafood soup with mixed noodles. My pal had sliced beef. Tasty and flavorful and not super thirsty afterwards! 😬🤭😉
Wide selection of Chinese-Vietnamese noodle soups, with egg noodle options. Broth a bit simple, not as well-spiced and umami flavored as pho. Customize with black pepper, black vinegar, jalapeño vinegar, chili oil, hoisin, and soy sauce. No limes, but sriracha available. Satay Beef Noodle Soup, while unique in its peanut broth, a bit blend. Tasty egg rolls, similar to lumpia.
Came here on a Saturday night and there was no wait for 2! Food: I got the number 9, the wonton with two types of noodles, and boy do you get a lot of value for the money you pay! I loved the combo of noodles since you could have different textures of noodle alongside the duck leg to make a unique eating experience. It’s also cool to get the soup on the side to dip the whole thing is. Good portions for good price. Service: The server here is a nice old lady and she’s extremely patient and will try to explain things as nice as possible. They don’t check in too often. Fast service! Ambiance: Super casual eatery, a little bit dirty like a cafeteria. Overall, a nice quick place to grab a bite in sunset!
The food was tasty and reasonably priced. I lijed their duck leg. However, the tea I would not recommend, it tastes like chloramine. It becomes better after it stays for a while in a cap. The people are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is popular with Chinese people, and was almost packed. To me, it is a good sign.
Love the food, the service and complimentary soy milk! The food comes out quickly and Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia always hit the spot. Although it is mainly street parking, I usually find a spot that close by.
This is a fantastic mom-and-pop soup shop with authentic Teo Chow/Vietnamese noodles. I enjoy having the soup on the side to balance the slightly oily, well-seasoned noodles. The dish includes a variety of proteins: fish ball, fish cake, ground meat, steamed shrimp, fried shrimp, and lean pork. It reminds me of my aunt's cooking. I’ll definitely return.
In my quest for a Mì Vịt Tiềm I found this small unassuming restaurant. I am happy with their Duck Stew noodle soup but I am unable to offer the 5th star because this special soup here is a bit shy of the authentic flavor I grew up with in Sàigòn. The flavor of the soup is not deep and aromatic enough. I think the herbs used are not sufficient in kind or amount. The duck leg looks just golden from the frying, not black brown from the herbs stewing for many hours. The meat is well cooked, soft and tasty but does not taste as good may be due to the absence of some spices. (Don’t ask me what spices. Only the chefs know.) Those of you who enjoyed this Duck Stew soup in Saigon in the 60’s and before 1975 know exactly what I mean. Our family favorite restaurant then was the Mỹ Phụng Mì Gia close by the Roundabout “Ngă 6 Sàigòn”. Will I return to Thái Nghiệp Ký? Absolutely YES. Their soup is good even if not fully match my search. I don’t complain just keep on searching. All in all we all should lend our support to this family owned local restaurant. 🪴
Great Chinese Vietnamese Teo Chew restaurant. The fried fish cakes were tasty and the Braised Duck Leg Noodle Soup was very good. The duck was very tender and flavorful. I would return if I'm in the area.
Long wait for a table. Long wait for the noodles. Egg rolls was smaller than I thought but taste just like how my mother/grandmother made them; delicious. Duck thigh was tender. Egg noodles was soft. Love the broth.
This restaurant is a bit of a hole in the wall Vietnamese/Chinese noodle soup restaurant that serves a well known egg noodle. Very popular for neighborhood locals. We tried the braised duck leg that comes with wontons and egg noodles. You can choose from the narrow noodles or the wide ones and to get the soup on the side or mixed in. The duck leg is braised so that the meat is soft and falls right off the bone. The wontons were nice and had a slight bouncy texture. They have a chili paste in the condiments on the table that brings the flavors to the next level! We also tried the beef stew noodles which was alright, the flavors were a bit mild, not for saltiness, just in terms of spices. There was lots of tendon that came with the dish, but only one piece of meat (you can see it in the picture). I did wish there were some green vegetables that came with the dishes. You also get an option to have complimentary soy milk hot or cold with your meal, which was pretty nice! The restaurant is quite packed for lunch. Luckily today we went for a late lunch and got a table right away. The restaurant is clean and staff are nice and efficient. Prices are pretty decent and the portion size filled us up. Would recommend.
If you’re craving comfort food - come here! Their dishes are simple and very comforting to eat. The braised duck falls off the bone so easily and the egg noodles are well seasoned. The soup compliments it really well as a palate cleanser. We also tried the seafood ho fun noodle soup and that was good as well. The fish balls were definitely made in-house and were just the right bounciness.

Always a line outside during lunch hours. So, we decided to come here late afternoon. It's not a big dining area. They only have one big table for a party of 8 max. The duck leg was tender and juicy. The portion was good enough for one. The service was attentive and fast. Price is reasonable. We will go again to try other dishes. Stay tuned.
The food was serviceable; can't say anything in particular was memorable. It's fine if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
