A 10 year Anniversay Celebration here was absolutely 10/10. I highly recommend the crab and garlic noodles, and if you still want more in the photos are some other great choices. I couldn't get enough of my waitress smile everytime she checked on us. I love coming back to my city where I was born and raised for good food. Dessert was chefs kiss... fried banana and ice cream. Yum yum good!
Great as always. Went on a Saturday night.. Party of 3 + a newborn. Called around 6, and they weren't taking walk-ins anymore... Went on open table and booked a reservation for 8:30 lol Got there early, which wasn't a problem. Drank 2 beers at the bar while we waited. We actually ended up getting sat about 30 ahead of schedule 🤞🏽 Got seated upstairs, which was a first for us. For some reason the vibe is a lot more laid back up there I feel? Could just be me, not sure, but it was more my vibe for sure. We ended up getting a couple items that the entire table shared. Shaken beef, wok egg noodles + shrimp, bowl of white rice, as well as the roasted crab. Everything on point, everything delish. Ended uo spending around $230 I want to say, with tip included.
Well, we could not get any places for a meduim size group (7). we were a bit disappointed, promised my son that his first Crab will be in this special place. then...they called and said that there was a cancelation, and we have a place!!! - The High expectations were fully met. This was the first crab for my son, and the best I ever had (and I had many..). The service was quick and with a smile, and we had a really good overall experience. Highly reccomended
I always enjoy coming here. The parking is tricky so park up the hill and just walk down. Make reservations (easy on open table). We had the calamari, roasted crab, rice and garlic noodles. Even had the fried banana and ice cream. Service was excellent and the food was just so fresh. I’ll back back again and again
If you're from the Bay Area or visiting, and you tell someone you're going to Thang Long, you will always receive some oohs and ahs, and rightfully so. In terms of fine dining, they set the bar. We booked online a day before and were able to find a table for four. During February, this is unlikely to be the case, so plan ahead. Parking is all street parking, so pack your patience, if you choose to drive. The last time we came, we parked a distance away and even had our first Waymo experience. I would recommend using a car service over parking there. We were a little late for our reservation, but they still honored it. Our server was timely in her introduction. We weren't ready to order initially, but when she returned a few minutes later, we were. The table ordered two roasted crabs, the prawns over garlic noodles, and three side orders of garlic noodles, and the fried banana for dessert. The roasted crab is packed with flavor and cracks easily; we didn't have to put up a fight to eat. The prawns come in a four-piece serving and were just as flavorful as the crab. But the star of the show or the must-have is the garlic noodles. We all ordered them. Honey is lactose intolerant, and apparently, the garlic noodles that come with the prawns already have cheese on them. This was fine, but it is a good note to know for others with dietary restrictions. One thing I appreciate about a five-star restaurant is that they don't have assigned servers/ tables; they work as a unit. Anyone who walked past our table refilled our glasses of water. That is a sign of a good customer experience, and as long as the food remains good, they will always have me as a customer.
First time coming here with my family, we had reservations booked from yelp on Friday 7p. Glad we did have reservation and did not have to wait and there were two families waiting. We have a total of four adults. This is a neighborhood restaurant and did not have much expectations. From the outside look, there was wow factor from the inside. This is an upper scale of the restaurant. The service was red carpet. This place is known for crab and garlic noodles. Unfortunately, my son is allergic to crab so we informed the server to ensure there is no cross contamination. We ordered an appetizer, salad and three entrees, and one dessert. We ordered shrimp toasts, mango salad, steam Chilean Sea Bass, shaken beef, tiger prawns, extra order garlic noodles, and a bowl of rice. The portions are a little small and worked out great, so we can ordered fried banana a la mode. The shrimp toast was good, shrimp had full flavors and toasts were fresh. The sea bass has great flavor and great with the butter, but the portion was really small, mainly a small piece of fish and a few Shanghai bok choy, I think the fish should be a little larger or should include a side dish. The shaken beef was very good, great with steam rice. The tiger prawns were very good and it came with garlic noodles. The fired banana is a little dried but great with ice cream. Overall, we enjoy the food. Reason to give a 5 stars was great service and good non crab dishes. This is a crab place but other choices were very good too. We would return again
Thanh Long is an absolute gem in San Francisco! The garlic noodles and king crab are out of this world, so flavorful, rich, and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is cozy and classic, and the service is always warm and friendly. It’s easy to see why this place is such a local favourite. Definitely a must-try if you’re in the city!
I’ve been going here for more than 20 years. The roast crab and garlic noodles are the best I’ve tried. Irreplicably amazingly flavorful crab and noodles. Words do not do them justice. I’m not sure which I love more. My family members come in from out of town just to have this. Everyone I take here is blown away. Everything I’ve tried on the menu is good, but the roast crab and garlic noodles are the highlighted specialties. The speciality cocktails are pretty good too, as are the desserts. If you want a more upscale experience, go to their other restaurant, Crustaceans. But this is the original location and is more casual, which I prefer.
I drove about an hour and 45 minutes from Rio Vista to try Thanh Long, and it was absolutely worth the trip. We ordered the garlic noodles, two Dungeness crabs, chicken fried rice, and lemongrass chicken. Every dish was delicious, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. For dessert, we had the fried banana, cheesecake, and chocolate cake, and they were just as amazing. The service was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. I have no complaints at all and will definitely be coming back in the near future.
The garlic roast crab here, paired with the garlic noodles, might be one of the most enjoyable meals I’ve had in San Francisco. Just make sure you clean your hands well before eating because you’re gonna dig in deep and go nasty. And don’t skip its head. It’s surprisingly good. Dip some noodles into the garlic oil and eat some of that crab meat and all of the good stuff in one bite, and you’ll be like 🤤🤤🤤
My recent visit to Thanh Long Restaurant in San Francisco was a delightful culinary experience. Renowned for its Vietnamese cuisine with a unique twist, the restaurant lives up to its reputation. The ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the perfect mood for an enjoyable meal. The moment I walked in, the aromatic scents of fresh garlic and herbs instantly tantalized my senses. I was especially impressed by the attentive and friendly service which enhanced the overall dining experience. I had the pleasure of trying their signature Garlic Noodles and their famous Roasted Crab. The Garlic Noodles were perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of butter and garlic seasoning. The Roasted Crab was an absolute highlight, cooked to perfection with a delicious blend of spices that accentuated the sweet flavor of the crab meat. One of my favorite aspects of dining at Thanh Long was the exquisite presentation of the dishes, which was both appealing and appetizing. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite. Overall, Thanh Long Restaurant provides a memorable dining experience with its exceptional food and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Francisco who is looking to indulge in flavorful Vietnamese cuisine.

As other reviewers have noted, the special home crab with garlic is a winner. Legs already came detached and very large. A bit expensive but a meal to remember. Wait staff was incredibly helpful.

We visited Thanh Long on Judah Street in San Francisco during our Dec 2024 Travel, excited to try their famous Vietnamese seafood. While the experience had its highlights, there were a few things that could have been better. * Shrimp Toast: This appetizer was just okay. It was on the dry side and lacked the richness we were expecting. * Roast Crab: The crab itself was excellent--fresh and cooked perfectly. However, the heavy use of butter slightly overwhelmed the flavors. * Colossal Royal Tiger Prawns: The prawns were juicy and flavorful, but again, there was an overabundance of butter, which detracted from the natural taste of the seafood. * Fried Rice Combo (Shrimp and Chicken): Unfortunately, this was the weakest dish of the night. The rice was over-charred, which left a bitter taste, and the flavors didn't come together well. While the seafood quality was undeniably good, the overuse of butter made the meal feel a bit heavy. The ambiance was cozy, and the service was friendly and attentive, but for the price point, we expected a little more finesse in the execution of the dishes. The crab and prawns are worth trying, but we'd love to see more balance in the flavors next time.
Food is good, especially the garlic noodles and mussels. Crabs are good too but super pricey. We ordered four dishes including two crabs and it came out to $300+ USD. The crabs were labelled 'market price', and since the price of the other dishes was like $20 something, that means the crab was like $100? Overall food is good but expect to pay a lot.
We had been here so many time prior and I love it everytime we’re in the area. The foods quality and freshness are generally consistent throughly the yrs but once in awhile, it just off, we had that couple time. Also just my pov, it is abit declined since the beginning. But they are still delish and got to have it at least one year. Services are the same, mostly great but one in a full moons just the opposite. Overall still an institutional place or landmark for SF and the Vietnamese community for sure. I tried to sit sibling places in SF doentown, BH and South coat plaza and even with the mother cooked in BH, somehow this place still carries the original and most flavorful crab ever.
Id like to give this place 5 stars, but im giving 4 just because the crab is very much over priced, then they make a mandatory tip of 20% minimum. $82 currently for 1 crab, and this I know is price gouging even though its off season. Its good food, the crab at least, but the garlic noodles aren't worth $15 for a portion. Not in a hurry to go back here.
Thanh Long is one of those places where the service is polite and you get seated quickly, but the experience is overshadowed by the price point. It was one of the most overpriced restaurants I visited in the city. I came to try their famous garlic noodles with the 'Colossal Royal Tiger Prawns,' which cost around $50. While the dish was definitely tasty, I can assure you it was not worth the price. The value simply isn't there for what you get. A crucial tip if you decide to visit: the main highlight here seems to be the crab, which honestly looked very impressive. My guess is that's the dish to get if you're looking for the signature experience. Overall, while the food has good flavor and the service is efficient, be prepared for a very expensive meal. If you're set on going, I'd suggest skipping the prawns and focusing on the crab to hopefully get a better value for your money.
Our server, Carol, was top notch. She checked on us often to ensure our needs were met. The food is great. The garlic noodles, however... Let's just say I've had better. I was expecting Asian style garlic noodles, not Italian. For those who've been to Kwongnaan in Vallejo, you know what I mean. IMO, Kwongnaan makes the best garlic noodles. Everything else was delicious. Parking? I've had to walk 3 blocks, but no complaints here. It was good exercise. But for those who have mobility issues, make sure you get dropped off.
