Everything here is delicious! And the people are wonderful. This is a lovely family-owned restaurant that we are lucky to have in Wilmette. It was my favorite place to take the family before the pandemic and now it's my favorite place for takeout.

Family-style, casual restaurant with exceptional customer service and hospitable staff. We overlooked it for several year and truly regret not having dined here sooner. From the tea to the soft crab rangoons and rich entrees, Tsing Tao provides exceptional food with great prices. Robert is wonderful and makes the experience feel like you’re right at home for a family meal. I HIGHLY recommend it out of all Asian cuisine locations in the Chicagoland area.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Chicago area!!! I have been going here for 20+ years with my family and have always thoroughly enjoyed myself. The Princess Shrimp, Mongolian Beef, and Richard's Chicken are all family favorites. Richard and Robert are some of the most engaging and sincere people to talk to.

Super friendly staff almost to meet here because there was a lot of white people. But I'm glad I did the food is actually amazing ask for Richard's Chicken it's not on the menu. And Mongolian beef super tender not authentic but good food

Have been eating here for many years! They have the best orange chicken ever! The garlic broccoli, Szechuan sting beans, and the potstickers are amazing. And the service is fantastic.

We have been fans of Tsing Tao since moving to Wilmette in 2003. Predictably excellent Chinese food served by Robert, Richard and family who are amazing people. Unpretentious and comfortable setting with some of the best Mandarin Chinese cuisine we have had the pleasure to experience. Steamed dumplings, hot & sour soup, egg rolls, Richard's chicken, Mongolian beef, Princess chicken, a few Tsing Taos and good family and friends . . . not a better recipe for fun and memories. You'll keep coming back. Any of the reviews here with less than 4 stars are an aberrancy of reality . . . and taste.

We ordered lunch for the sales and service team, 45 people. Great spread!! We had 2 types of chicken dishes, 1 beef, a veggie option plus eggrolls. Food was fantastic and was ready at the agreed upon pick-up time. Will definitely order again!! Thankyou Mr. Sun for making our lunch spectacular.

Having grown up in Wilmette, this place has been a staple business for as long as I can remember! My dad and I met for dinner, and it's almost exactly what I remember. Old school Chinese, leftover size portions (not for my dad!) and really nice people working. I don't think the place or food will "Wow" anyone, but if you want consistently good, flavorful food and to support a local business, they will not disappoint!

J

Relaxed, quiet and reliable. Moderate prices, excellent food and presentation, courteous and attentive staff. Generally not too crowded - I think that most of their business is carry out - they've been a neighborhood staple literally for many decades.

This place has wonderful people, and excellent food. It is a classic American Chinese restaurant with all the usual dishes you'd expect served family style. Portions are a good size for sharing or taking home leftovers for lunches. We've tried a variety of dishes and enjoyed them all.

Tsing Tao in Wilmette is a great spot for a satisfying meal, and it’s nice to be back after our previous visits. We ordered the Family Special and some Lo Mein, and everything was really tasty. The Mongolian beef was a standout—full of flavor—and the Bu Bu platter was a hit, too. The portions were generous, leaving us with plenty for takeout. One of the best things about Tsing Tao is that the food feels healthier and less greasy compared to other local Chinese places, without sacrificing any flavor. The service was quick and friendly, making the experience even better. For the quality and quantity of food, Tsing Tao offers fantastic value. Plus, it’s nice to leave feeling good, full, and not overly thirsty. We’ll definitely keep coming back!

These folks know what they’re doing! Tonight’s menu included Hot & Sour soup, Orange Chicken and Crispy Honey Walnut Shrimp. All superb, with very attentive, friendly service. We’ve been in 3-4 times now since new ownership came in and it’s back on the regular circuit for us. Highly recommend.

I was sad when the original restaurant closed as I’d been going there for over 35 years. Lots of childhood memories! My kids and I did takeout tonight and I was so happy that many of my favorites haven’t changed much. The steamed potstickers and hot and sour soup were and now remain my favorites. Pricey but unfortunately that’s generally an issue with restaurants these days. I’m excited to see the renovated space. 5 stars from us!

Tsing Tao has been our family restaurant for the past 44 years. Since the new management took over, it felt rather difficult to go back — almost like seeing your ex-girlfriend in someone else’s arms. Last week, I finally gathered the courage to visit. I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised. The place looks beautiful under the new management — the renovated restroom, the new bar, and most impressively, the fine and authentic Chinese antiques that give the space such character. I’ve even been receiving calls from some of our old regulars telling me how good the food is. Not as good as mine, of course — but still very good! Please keep up the great work. You look beautiful in the new arms.

I understand that in the past 30 years, there have been a lot of changes to what “Chinese food" really is. Some people are more into the fusion style and trends that sensationalize and promote restaurants. It's more about the experience, the dining, the visual aesthetics. But I'm more interested in the food. Tsing Tao is a reminder of how great Chinese food was made back in the day. It really spends the time and energy on making great old school cuisines. I've never had better Orange Chicken from any other place than here. And I'm including China Town. They actually use real oranges not flavoring. Their seafood is sumptuous, strong elements of seasoning and broth. And the rest of the menu, while traditional and homogenous to other Chinese restaurants stands apart from the rest because they take their time to make it. The waitstaff is great and make you feel at home. Haven't been in the storefront in some time to dine. But I always grab a carry out order.

We love the Moo Shu Pork, "Richard's Chicken", and Princess Chicken. Customer service provided by Robert, Richard, et al is very friendly, in fact, over the top experiences for our family, not just once, but for the past ten years! They go the extra mile to satisfy their customers. Keep up the good work.

This is a casual neighborhood restaurant where the owners chat and are quite jovial with regulars. In general, the food was delicious and above average, with a few exceptions. The pot stickers, hot and sour soup, and shrimp toast were all good. None of us could detect even the slightest crab taste in the Rangoon, which I guess isn't surprising since it was imitation crab in cream cheese. The egg roll was nothing to write home about. As for the main dishes - the Sizzling Rice Shrimp featured enormous shrimp, as did the Tsing Tao Combo fried rice. The sauce in the first dish was a bit too garlicky, although it was quite tasty. The standouts were the Orange Chicken and Twin Mushroom Beef. It was a little surprising that the Orange Chicken didn't include broccoli, but it was so crispy and delectable, we didn't really care. The beef was tender and excellent, although once again, a bit too heavy on the garlic. The parking lot was woefully inadequate for a Saturday night and there weren't any close street spots. My brother-in-law reported that the downstairs bathroom was dirty and gross, and what if an elderly person needed to use the facility - impossible! The service was slow, but they seemed understaffed. Last ... the fortune cookies were inedible cardboard, but they give you almond cookies, as well. Despite these minor complaints, it was a pleasant experience and we have plenty of leftovers.

We just got takeout from here -- we got the dinner for 2 with an extra order of crab rangoons. This was more than enough for THREE people with plenty of leftovers! Most of the food was awesome, we were just a little sad to see that the appetizer sampler (for 2) only included one egg roll, cut in half, but two of everything else. Beyond that, though, very solid choice when you want good Chinese takeout!

I have run past this restaurant hundreds of times and walk past daily on my way home from work, but had never tried this delightful, old school Chinese restaurant. That all changed on Xmas Eve, when, as a family we dined. This isn't a new place and the food isn't cutting edge, but everything is what you expect and, truly, delicious. The foods described as spicy had a nice bite to them and the lo mein was so traditional (to my taste buds) as to be comfort food. Recommended. We will go back.

We have been long time fans of the Dragon Inn in Glenview and hated that it closed. We have been looking for a suitable alternative and Tsing Tao fits the bill. The shrimp toast was fabulous. The moo shu chicken was excellent which should apply to other moo shu dishes. The Beef was tender but look out for the super hot peppers. It is nice to have a pot of hot tea on the table. We are looking forward to going back.

Food was bland. Sauces are thin and not seasoned properly. I had a chicken dish and it tasted like old, frozen product. It was supposedly “spicy” and was not at all.

Called in for pick up, got to the restaurant saw many people already seated at the table, which was promising. Crabragoon was good, cream cheese filling was with reasonable portion. Orange chicken was good. But sweet and sour pork as well and the grief rice and noodle had no had flavor. If we ever go back, would only go back for the orange chicken... Nothing else.

M

Fried rice was okay but the veggies were undercooked. The sweet and sour chicken was completely soggy. The sweet and sour sauce was very watered down, to the point where it tasted like I was dipping my chicken in mildly flavored water. Incredibly disappointing.

Tsing Tao Mandarin Chinese Restaurant is the most aggressively mediocre Chinese dining establishment that I have ever patronized. One thing I've struggled with for the last two years is finding a good Chinese restaurant in the Evanston area. Everything has been lousy, made me sick, or been some sort of weird Thai-Chinese fusion that doesn't seem to do either cuisine well. So when I saw Tsing Tao and what seemed like overall solid reviews, I was cautiously optimistic, even moreso when receiving my practically 50 pound delicious smelling back of takeout. Boy, was I disappointed. Previous reviews mentioned food being bland and holy moly, they were absolutely right. What are people eating up here? It's like there was no seasoning of any kind. I don't know if it is a no MSG thing (by the way, MSG causing headaches is a myth), if they ran out of spices, or what, but nothing tasted like anything. Fried rice: Weirdly "pale" and bland. Sweet and sour chicken: Chicken was fine, sauce was this strange watered down pink slurry that was unlike any other sweet and sour sauce I've ever had. I understand the hot pink sauce is obviously not authentic Chinese food and is instead most likely some corn syrup filled with red dye #5 to appeal to my uncivilized American palate, but that's also what I expect to receive. Chicken lo mein: Flavorless and colorless sadness in a takeout box. Pot stickers: Tasty enough! Egg rolls: Tasty, but cold. The girlfriend and I didn't even save our $46 worth of leftovers for gnoshing on the next day, which I always am wont to do with Chinese food. On to the next one...

The new orange chicken recipe, under the new ownership, is heart breaking. The orange chicken and lo mein *USE* to be amazing! We would have dreams about how good it was and would take any opportunity to eat out to eat here. But our most recent experience, after the new ownership, was disappointing… Although the service was great, the renovations were nothing special. In fact we missed the old esthetics. The old layout gave a very “Ventura Blvd” (Los Angeles) restraint vibe and this new layout looked like a new construct or flipped condo in millennial gray. We were extremely disappointed in the food. The orange chicken has fat and fatty. It literally tasted like Panda Express. The lo mein was ok, but extra greasy, and the chicken wings looked amazing but were fairly underwhelming. We hyped up the (old) menu to our friends, forgetting about the new ownership, and it showed. The price hike also disproportionately reflects the quality. If the orange chicken recipe had stayed the same I would have accepted the increased prices. I cant reiterate enough how heartbreaking it is that the orange chicken recipe changed. RIP greatest orange chicken in all the U.S. You are missed :(

I don't know what the other people on this chain are eating, but the two dishes we got were inedible. $44 thrown away. We ordered two dishes, both were terrible. We took 5-6 bites each and threw it in the garbage. We regretted eating any of it for the rest of the night.

This place really needs help, they tried to give me crappy packaged sweet and sour sauce with my to go food when they have fresh which is so much better (cheap!) it is in general very dirty and smells bad in the dining area by the service bar area. My won ton soup broth tasted like water absolutely NO flavor, the won tons had no filling just the noodle. There are a few items I like, the Mongolian beef and the egg foo young. Tried to order the egg foo young at lunch today and they told me it would take 30-40 minutes, they had 3 tables and he said "they don't usually do it" at lunch same response I got on giving me the fresh sweet and sour sauces and then he actually charge me $25 cents for them!

Nice People, Bad Food Nice people running the restaurant but the food really is not good. We ordered King Pao Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, Chicken Fried Rice, Pot Stickers, and Sizzling Rice Soup. The fried rice was the only thing that was good, and it was just OK. The King Pao had no flavor and no peanuts. How is it possible to serve King Pao Chicken without peanuts? Very bland. Same story with the Beef and Broccoli, just really no flavor at all. The pot stickers were way too doughy, didn't taste right. I really wanted to like this place but our experience just wasn't good. Still looking for good Chinese food along the North Shore.

I tried ordering on Sunday night around 6:45 PM for pick up which was still early since they close at 8 PM. When I tried calling no one answered and got a recorded message about the number not being available to try later. Kept on calling every so often no luck, then proceeded to order online, and as soon as I picked an item got a pop up window stating that pick up service was not available to try later. Called back again and their line transferred into a fax line, what gives?? Being that I didn't have any luck via phone or online, proceeded to go into the restaurant just to totally be ignored by their wait staff. So I asked the girl at the front desk that I was waiting for some one to seat me and she right away looked at the clock (it was 7PM) and then with an attitude tells me "to just stand there and someone will get you" like I waited for 5 minutes and after seeing their wait passed by me without even eye contact but rather, totally being ignored I simply left because considering that they had customers they could have still accommodated me or tell me that they're no longer taking orders but not ignore a long time customer that has been coming for years is down right unprofessional! Do NOT go there if they're somewhat busy because you'll get ignored especially an hour early before closing.

I just called to make a reservation for dec 25 and was told they have time for us. As I was making a reservation, they hung up on me and when I called back I was told no reservations are available. And then got a very rude person on the phone dismissing my concerns.
