The Lan Zhou hand pulled soup noodle perfect on a cold day. Noodles are super long and bouncy and soup is very flavorful. Was able to try a few other dishes on the menu as well and they were also great. All the lamb/muttondishes were very tender and seasoned well (on the bone and skewers), not gamey at all. The cold liang pi wasn’t seasoned as strongly so it was perfect paired with the skewers which had a ton of flavor. The plate of beef and potatoes was also very tasty, beef is very tender but recommend getting an extra order of plain noodles to mix in as the flavor is concentrated. Service was super quick and nice, answering any questions we had.
My friends and I came to DunHuang for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. We ordered the cold seaweed starter and 3 combo beef noodle platters. I also got an egg and tomato noodle soup. All the dishes were hot, flavorful, and authentic. I liked this restaurant and will be back next time I’m in New York.
Rich broth, bouncy noodles, tender and flavorful meat. Food came out quickly and staff were all very friendly. Perfect lunch experience for a reasonable price.
Really great noodles. The flavor is fantastic and any of the spicy stuff is great. I've been here multiple times and love every noodle dish I've tried. I've noticed the location in Manhattan is priced higher but this place is still well priced. The place is very chill and I appreciate that it is open late.
Edit 2/23/25: I thought it would be amusing to just write "good" because of how good this place is, but in hindsight I think that's underselling the food. This place is INCREDIBLE. It's actually bonkers how insanely tasty everything is. I need more. I hunger for noodles. Original Review: Good 👍
One of my family and I’s favorite noodle places. Great prices for super large portions! Also amazing flavored broth. Always recommend the 牛肉面加蛋。We also got the tomato and egg noodles with extra soup, some lamb skewers, and a 大盘鸡 (big plate chicken)。The flavors for the chicken were so amazing - spicy, savory, and fragrant. The noodles were not as thick as expected but they were still great in texture. Definitely worth a try, especially on a cold day!
I ordered the appetizer liang pi and the lamb burger, both very delicious. The liang pi is a little spicy and comes with cold tofu, cucumber, bean sprout, and the flat noodle. I ate that so fast and so the picture is after I started slowing down hahah. The lamb burger was juicy once you took a bite into it! Otherwise you wouldn’t know it was so juicy! They gave me a free tofu like sweat drink which was nice!
The Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles were incredibly flavorful and perfectly chewy. The broth was rich, aromatic, and comforting, with just the right balance of spices. The beef slices were tender and well-seasoned. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. This is hands down one of the best noodle dishes I’ve ever had. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Chinese cuisine
❤️❤️❤️ GREAT 👍 The broth is carefully textured. Good use of ingredients without overly doing it. Multiple noodle textures and widths. NO hand pulled noodle option is a minus. Menu is abundant but not huge. Great. Ambience is clean and straightforward. Overall highly recommended for noodle 🍜 soup 🍲 😋
Super super yummy. As a beef noodle soup lover , I was impressed. I ordered the signature Lanzhou beef noodles, braised beef noodles, and lamb skewers. The signature noodles were made perfectly, it came with thinly sliced beef which I loved and the broth had a lot of chili oil. You can pick what type of noodles you want, I prefer thin noodles and it complimented the broth. The skewers were spicy but still cooked to perfection. Service was nice, even though it was just two of us, we sat in a big booth. Place was spacious, good service, clean bathrooms. Definitely returning!
This place exceeded my expectations. I had the pickled vegetables beef noodle dish and it was tasty. Several different noodle dishes and main dishes to choose from. The sweet and sour pork dish was alright. The ambience was clean and inviting, unlike the majority of flushing eateries. The service was friendly and helpful. I would definitely eat here again when I’m in the neighborhood.
Good broth and good food! Would recommend this place for their beef noodles and service The place is also clean modern and nicely decorated
I’ve been to Dunhuang Noodles many times, and it never disappoints. The flavors are incredibly authentic and remind me of traditional Northwestern Chinese cuisine. The hand-pulled noodles are always fresh and perfectly cooked, with just the right texture. The broth is rich and flavorful, and the beef is tender and well-seasoned. Every dish feels like it’s made with care. It’s rare to find such genuine taste outside of China. Highly recommended for anyone craving real Lanzhou-style noodles!
One of my favorite noodle stores in Flushing. Their noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was amazingly rich and flavorful.
The child said: Your noodle is to good We've been eating noodles at your restaurant for several years, and we hope you continue to maintain the quality and attract more customers.
Some of the best beef noodles I've had anywhere. Reasonably priced with large portions. The standard beef noodle soup is labeled as spicy, but it's not intense, just the right amount of kick. A modern, quiet, and well lit restaurant. Clean and spacious single use restrooms on-site.
Restaurant has great food. I recommend thin noodles with braised beef soup if you enjoy mild spice. Staff is kind and generous, offered hot tea. Also a small bowl and scissors to cut noodles that I was sharing. The soup is delicious and the bok choy had a satisfying crunch to it. Definitely come by on a cold day and get yourself a bowl of soup and enjoy. Portion you are given is more than enough for one person. Lamb burger was hot and bun was crispy when served. It had the right amount of spices. Definitely would visit again.
I went to this place back when it opened, then never had a chance to go back until recently. The menu has grown drastically, and the quality of the food has increased from its already wonderful position. My go-to is still the spicy lamb burger, although I just had the spicy beef burger, and that was equally as good. The lamb is chunks of seasoned lamb stuffed in a side cut bun. The beef is slices stuffed I to a side cut bun. The taste, texture, and spiciness are perfect. The lamb has a heavy amount of cumin that goes well with the meat. This place is also conveniently located right by a paid parking lot so parking isn't a problem.
Just eat their soup, either the one with bok choy beef soup or the spicy beef soup, YOU WON'T REGRET a 9/10 ever eaten. They have good quality broth and hand made noodle this is why 5stars. The service and other dishes not a 5 stars but not bad. I've been eating there at least 8 times, I will be there again and again. Cost? I will say fair.
Food is really good. Relatively clean considering some the restaurants in the area. Good price as well. Service is okay. Depends on how busy it is. Overall good food and decently priced.
The food is very comforting, highly recommend the combo… traditional beef soup with noodle, pickled cabbage and a soda… $14.95 I also opted for the wontons in chili oil, they were delicious and homemade. Service is efficient and polite, and i was very pleased. Definitely give it a try.
I came here alone since I heard good reviews about this place. I came in around 8pm and it was pretty empty, got a seat immediately and ordered their original beef soup noodle. It came within 5 minutes. A clear broth with chewy hand pulled noodles and a couple slices of beef. It was delicious! After I ate one bowl I ordered another bowl and finished that one too. I would've ordered a third bowl but it was getting late! Only thing I wished they added was more beef slices! The broth was clear, non-fatty and delicious. Overall really enjoyed this restaurant and it's a must try if you've never had hand pulled noodles.
Appropriately priced for the noodles. Around $8 bucks a bowel. The broth looks bland, but it was packed the flavor. I took number 1, which was the beef noodle spicy. My wife who doesn't really like spicy thought it was great. Don't forget to get the lamb burger and the eggplant salad. The eggplant salad was very garlicky. Yum! Dining for two costed about $30. I will be returning.
Flushing is the only place outside of China where I found Lanzhou noodles (handpulled noodles from a specific region in China). The noodles remembered me very much at my experience in China and the place is very tidy and looks nice. It took a bit until the food came and not both at once but in total I liked the experience very much. There were also a lot of Chinese people eating there. They have a menu with pictures and english, so you know what to order. Unfortunately my reading of chinese is not well enough to compare the chinese menu and prices to the english one 😉
We have been coming here for the past two years since moved to NYC. My wife praises their food and saying this is the most authentic Lanzhou beef noodle she had ever had in the US. I can’t agree with her more. Not only we love their Lanzhou noodles, everything from the kitchen is as authentic as it can be. The picture is my favorite the crispy flatbread.
Honestly, I never had such great Lanzhou beef noodles in America. It tastes just awesome. You can sense the beefy taste in the delicious broth as you can choose how you want you noodles to be. There are also a few dishes options and skewers. The price is pretty low: a noodle, drink, marinated egg and kimchi combo for just 13 dollars. The only downside is that the walls look a bit dirty, which bothered me a bit.
The Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles is such a satisfying bowl. The broth is a light meat broth, with a nice chili oil that adds flavor without completely overwhelming the soup, and then the cilantro which adds a fresh component. The noodles are well prepared. The meat is different cuts that add texture, some more meaty and chewy, and some very soft and tender.
Update August 2024: The new location is great! Still hefty portions with oodles of fresh noodles in delicious broth, clean and spacious decor with plenty of tables, and budget friendly prices at $10-12 noodles as usual. The staff are better here than the old location. They noticed things we needed, quickly replaced the utensils my toddler threw (sorry!), and cleaned up around her quickly, telling me not to worry about it. Forever a Dun Huang noodle fan! Old location 2023: My go to neighborhood noodle place! Quick staff, awesome portion size, delicious noodles and broth!! The noodles are always al dente and have a great bite. Appetizers are good too especially for vegetables. We love the classic and the spicy braised beef noodles. Spicy chicken wings, ear mushroom salad, and cauliflower salad are also must trys. The restaurant is never crazy packed so you’ll enjoy a nice quick meal at reasonable prices in a spacious setting compared to similar shops in flushing!
We really enjoyed beef noodles, grilled lamb and 大盤雞。 Thanks for the great food and service.
We ordered their cucumber appetizer Lanzhou beef noodle soup combo and their stewed pork Chinese Burger. The cucumber was very refreshing and the portions for the noodle soup was huge. The burger was also really tasty. Everything was very authentic and the atmosphere reminded me of home. Their customer service was also very good.
The beef noodle soup was really good and hot the spot, beef was nice and tender and the broth was not too salty. Zha jiang noodles were fine. Big portions for the price you get, I feel like you get your moneys worth and then some. The atmosphere is not fancy, it’s bare bones but that’s where you gotta go to get good food in Flushing. Service was great, got seated immediately and food came out super fast. Would definitely come back here to try more.
The noodles are still the best in town 🥇🥇 It’s worth bringing a date here if you want to impress. Be sure to ask for the booth if available. Come extra hungry 😋 *TIP: I got extra noodles ($4) added to original entree. Definitely satisfy any famished cyclists doing 50-100 miles Update: Deliciously fulfilling 👍
It may be the cleanest and most comfortable place in Flushing for Lanzhou style lamian. The flavor is nothing special but it’s consistently good (likely because it’s made in a factory) and satisfying. You can fill up for under 20 a head. 30 at the most if you get some skewers to round out the meal and get some drinks. Anymore than that you are going to have left overs.
DunHuang Lanzhou Beef Noodle in Flushing is one of those places that connects you straight back to the roots of traditional Chinese noodle culture. Lanzhou hand pulled noodles (牛肉拉面) are more than just a dish they’re part of an intangible cultural heritage in China, famous for their “one clear, two white, three red, four green, five yellow” standard: a clear broth, white radish, red chili oil, green cilantro, and golden noodles. This bowl captures that spirit beautifully. I ordered the Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles 傳統蘭州牛肉面, which came with tender beef slices, radish, cilantro, and their fragrant house chili oil. The broth was perfectly salted and seasoned light yet full of depth, the kind you can sip straight through without feeling heavy. One of the things I appreciate here is the choice of noodle thickness, from the ultra-thin 毛細 to regular 普通, thick 二細, wide 韭菜, and extra-wide 大寬. I went with the thick noodles, which had that signature chewy pull that defines Lanzhou-style noodles, though mine were just a little uneven. Still, you can feel the hand-pulled artistry that makes this dish so unique every strand carrying history and craftsmanship. I also tried the Liang Pi 凉皮, a cold noodle dish popular across northwestern China. It had a nice chew and was refreshing, though I personally would’ve loved a bit more vinegar and chili to give it that punchy balance of sour, spicy, and savory that makes liang pi addictive in the summer. The Roasted Lamb Shank 烤羊腿 was generously seasoned with cumin and spices, a flavor profile that reflects the Silk Road influences running through Northwestern Chinese cuisine. It was tasty and aromatic, but for the price, it didn’t feel as strong a value compared to the noodles which remain the true star here. Overall, DunHuang is a solid spot to experience the heritage of Lanzhou noodles right in the heart of Flushing. The bowls here remind you that noodles are not just food, but also history a tradition of hand-pulling, balance, and comfort passed down through centuries. I’ll definitely be back, and next time, I might explore the different noodle widths to experience the full range of textures this tradition offers.
Decent noodle soup bowl. Fresh ingredients, soup based is light and fresh. One star off because personally I like my soup to be hot and their soup was just warm when it first arrived on table. Not even half way though my noodle, the soup was cold. Also, We tried wood ear mushroom and ma San potato. Both are great.
Excellent skewers that are made to order. The namesake noodles are great as well (hand pulled with a delicate broth). You can choose from a variety of noodles and texture (our daughter loves the extra wide) The lamb rice is really good as well. Authentic and home cooked food. Food comes out quick.
Food is ok. 16 dollars including tip. Not bad but worth about 12 all in amd would have a bigger crowd. Pretty empty store.
We’ve been coming to dun Huang at least once a month and this time we arrived to the old location and realized they moved down the street. We walked to the new location looked welcoming and spacious a lot bigger than the old location. Service was pretty standard nothing out of the ordinary however this time around the food was not as great… the noodles were very uneven. Noodle texture was completely off. Since the noodles were uneven it tasted like some pieces were under cooked and some over cooked. Soup was bland not as flavorful. Lamb skewers were warm to the touch not even hot when it came out.. Overall I’m very hesitant to try again. Hopefully it was just an off day but I couldn’t even finish the bowl of noodles.
Monstrous plate chicken is not "monstrous" in size at all. Taste is okay but priced too high. Pork Chinese hamburger is much better than lamb Chinese hamburger. The latter one is spicy and cumin flavored. Eight jewel rice pudding is not bad. It has walnut, dates, sesame seeds, peanut, raisins, dried jasmine flower, probably brown sugar or red bean paste, and glutinous rice (steamed). Overall it's a little under expectations given the price.
It was not the first time for us to come back. Yet I was so frustrated with today’s experience. Nobody was in the front when we were there at the beginning. Even though just a few minutes to wait, but they should have someone in the front all the time. After that, I felt disgusted with water they offered. Because it tasted like bleach, literally. Though I ended up figuring out the smell/taste came from the plastic cup. I lost my appetite from that moment. The next thing totally ruined my day is, soggy noodles in my bowl, a little bit raw beef in my husband’s bowl. Overall, it was not satisfying at all. We ended up not coming again.
I recently dined here and ordered the Spicy Beef Noodles, but unfortunately, it was quite average. The soup was ok but on the salty side. While the portion size was reasonable, the beef was the real letdown. It tasted bad and had an off-putting, nasty smell that made it difficult to enjoy. Initially, I thought it was just one slice of beef, but it turned out the whole bowl was tainted with the same unpleasant flavor. Later that night, I experienced a terrible stomachache that lasted until 3 a.m., which was incredibly concerning. This was not a pleasant experience at all, and I definitely won’t be coming back.
This review is for outdoor BBQ only. It tastes “wet” not crispy at all. Please hire more professional people do this or train him better. Or no return customer for the BBQ.
