This casual Japanese teriyaki spot recently converted their menu to halal. Its quite spacious, with several tables and high top seating areas. Nice and clean overall. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. For $15, its a very good value. The teriyaki was flavorful and juicy. The gyozas and spring rolls were crispy and delicous. Very filling for one person. Service was great and food came out relatively quickly.
This place must be new, didn't notice it around the area the last time I was in Astoria. I just noticed it on a whim since a restaurant I initially planned to go to wasn't open at the time. The place from the outside gives the impression that it's a small and narrow spot but it's pretty long and spacious as you step in. The servers there are very courteous and helpful so service is already at a high mark. Didn't take long for the food to be brought to me either. The food is definitely the better of most Japanese spots I've went to. In fact, it was so good I forgot to take a pic of my food before eating only to realize my error halfway through my lunch so taste is definitely high level too. The server was so kind and attentive he deserved a tip and that's not something I give on a whim. Actually kind of glad this detour came about. This is a really good restaurant.
Got their chick teriyaki to-go. Delicious, great portion and cheap. No complains!
I usually don’t write reviews but the workers were really kind and welcoming, I saw one of them assisting a person on a wheelchair which is very rare too see. As for the food they are not stingy with the portions the teriyaki was crispy and flavorful and the mango lemonade was a great complementary drink :)

Great halal beef bento box! Dumplings and shrimp tempera were great too!
Ignore the bad reviews, this place is great. They also have a 10% discount promotion currently I believe. Had the Chicken Bento box. All the items were pretty savory and had great portions for around $15. The main dish, the Teriyaki Chicken, was definitely the best part. Especially combined with Noodles (Default is Rice I think, so you have to request it.)
I love this place! They’re always generous with the portions, and the staff are incredibly kind. As someone who’s Asian, the warmth and friendliness here really touch me and make me feel at home every time.
This has become our new lazy Friday night dinner spot! My boyfriend and I have come at least 5x now, and the food just keeps getting better. When we initially came I will admit the food was a bit in the blander side, but they've really found a balance and I can now firmly say the food is really really good! Our go to is the spicy chicken & beef teriyaki platter (it's not really spicy don't worry). The meat is tender and well seasoned. The portion and quality for the price is really unbeatable. Also the owners are so nice!
really great teriyaki! : ) and the sushi is great quality too. everyone here is really nice and fast service! great portions too at an amazing price.

This new Chinese-Japanese fast casual spot quietly opened this past week. It’s in the same spot formerly occupied by Teriyaki U. Inside the layout is the same with the open grilling station towards the back. I got the below: Chicken Teriyaki Special ($9.99): Nice big portion of chicken teriyaki over white rice with a few pieces of steamed cabbage and broccoli. Overall tasted okay albeit a bid bland. I wanted more teriyaki flavor, but the chicken was nice and tender. Fried Chicken Dumplings ($5.99): good dumplings. Skin was thin and nicely fried. Not too greasy and the meat was good. Deluxe Bento with Chicken ($14.50): comes with 2 pieces of Veg Spring Rolls, 2 pieces of Chicken Dumplings, California Roll, and Chicken Teriyaki over white rice. I usually am a sucker for Bento boxes because it gives more variety of food like this one. I did not care for the California Roll. It was slightly cold, and the cucumbers did not seem fresh. The fried items (dumplings and spring rolls) were fine. Nicely fried and not oily. The chicken teriyaki was a bit bland. I was missing that sweet and savory flavor in the teriyaki sauce. Shrimp Tempura Sushi Roll ($7.95): was an okay roll. It had a drizzle of some kind of sauce (either teriyaki or soy sauce) but was still a bit bland. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that they used regular rice instead of sushi rice. I really wanted to give them a higher rating. The staff were so nice and earnest. The interior is clean and feels spacious. Price point and portions were good. I just thought the food was bland overall.
Food is relatively cheap for its big portion. The food itself is pretty good but I had to throw out the lemonade because it was wayyyy too sweet. Now don’t get me wrong I love sweet things but the drink was just pure sugar… it was just inedible. Besides that I’d probably go back for another bento.
Food was ok. The place was dark. Service was ok. I ordered the spicy salmon. If only they would provide alittle more sauce on the side.

I have been dying to try this place ever since they opened. But unfortunately my first delivery order was very disappointing! The chicken teriyaki bento box was horrible. The chicken was a little tough and had too much honey, not enough rice, the salad was soggy and bland and the gyoza was hard. What a waste of money!! I will never ever order from Sarkus Japan in Steinway Street, Astoria again!
Ordered Chicken & Beef Teriyaki, and was unfortunately disappointed. I am used to having authentic hibachi, and this tastes nothing like that. The meat tasted sort of low quality, and was breaded or coated in something that made the texture a bit soggy(?)—and the fried rice was tiny like the inexpensive kind that you get from any local random Chinese Restaurant. Go to Teri's Teriyaki across the street instead. WAY better quality haha.

This is no longer teriyaki. When they first opened, the teriyaki was amazing, but they've since changed how they make it. Now it just tastes and feels like regular, overly-sweet Chinese food because they're drenched in cornstarch and egg white, which is not what teriyaki is and absolutely does not work together.
Horrible! Meat was gooey and had no flavor...couldn't even finish my food that's how bad it was. I was hoping this would be like the spot in the mall...sadly disappointed ☹️

I am not sure if the food tastes good, but they market themselves as being halal. They add alcohol to their terriyaki sauce (mirin) , thus not halal. I hope the restaurant starts to include teriyaki sauce without mirin so we can order :)
the food is terrible and got me sick, these reviews must be fake , please dont eat here, Astoria deserves better than this trash
