Ordered take-out. Delicious food. 😋 Ready in ten minutes while even they were serving customers who were in line to order their food. Street Parking.
The food and the vibe scream Mission street. The super burrito is absolutely massive, and I regret nothing. The meats are tender and flavorful. The rice, beans, guac, and crema all dance together in your mouth. The horchata is a bit pricey, but worth the expense for the complete experience. It was a pleasure not just to eat here, but to remember life in the city as a toddler.
Eating at Gordo’s Taqueria in Albany was way more than I expected. The moment I walked in, I was hit with the aroma of grilled meat in the air. The place is straight business no frills, small, a real hole-in-the-wall spot. The menu is simple: tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and bowls. And when I tell you Chipotle has nothing on these guys, I mean it. The line is run by four cooks who all look like they could make you the meanest burrito of your life in their sleep. The meat options are limited, but their specialty is the salsa verde meat which I ordered in a burrito. It was sooo good and flavorful I devoured it instantly. So of course, I had to try their tacos next… and that’s when I got blown away. They crisp up the corn tortilla, melt cheese onto it, and then layer on a hefty portion of meat. I kid you not they tasted like something my grandma would’ve made. It took me right back to my childhood, to those moments where her cooking made everything feel perfect. If food can hit you with that kind of nostalgia, you have to try it. I’ll definitely be coming back.
Gordo's has some of the best burritos ive ever had! I usually order a bean and cheese & rice super burrito with 3 slabs of cheese with pinto beans. The steamed tortilla wraps it all together literally and figuratively; further more they are a efficient quality food making machine and usually have 2 or 3 people in front two of them making the food and 2 in the back helping clean and restock as well as helping generally around the shop. I Highly recommend this Gordo's to everyone.
It's a small store front kinda restaurant. Minimal seating. A kind of "on the go" experience. Quick assembly style order and go eatery. A "keep the line moving please" set up. Ohhh but the tacos are delicious!!! Overstuffed, full of meat, and if you dare order extra toppings, you'll need a sturdy plate to catch overflow juices and condiments. Pure bliss! My one suggestion... larger taco shells please.
This is the go to place for great Mexican food. Everything made fresh to order. And awesome flavors. Love their green hot sauce! Small little place with only a few seats, but most people order to go anyway.
My daughter and I's favorite burrito spot! The one on college always has fresh and hot ingredients. Ordered the grilled chicken on a spinach tortilla. My faMy daughter ordered the steak on a regular flour tortilla. There is just something about their rice, black bean, and cheese combination that is unmatched at any other local Mexican restaurant that sets them apart. I've been going here since the 90's and will continue to frequent both East Bay locations...
There’s a few hating guys in there they didn’t want to give me spicier hot sauce they had there but the nice older lady preparing my burrito she didn’t say much but got some from the back and put some. 2 guys started trippin on her but she continued working.
I not a big fan of chain food, but when I am, I go to Gordo. Some of the best burritos/tacos around. They have good sized portions and every so often, they have taco specials. Their assembly line is quick and you don't have to wait long while your food is made. Seating is a bit limited but you could take a stroll on Solano and find a random spot to sit down. The protein options are great. I recommend the carnitas.
11/11/2018 UPDATE: There has been some contention recently in the bundle of neurons in my head that decides who gets preference when the "I want a burrito" bundle is fired. Gordos seems to have hung on to its seemingly permanent spot as the top spot, but there are others whose prominence has been deterred only because of proximity. And because I didn't go anywhere else for decades and decades, or so it would seem. So all I can say here is that they are still churning out the same high quality, tasty, healthy, economical fare that I craved when I was too young to understand what I was enjoying. Anyway, just go. If you call ahead and they don't answer the phone it's because there's a line of hungry people snaking out the door. Please don't let that deter you: it's worth the wait. **END OF 11/11/2018 update** I've been coming here since High School....when I'd have just enough time to get a burrito and get back to class in the very limited 45mins (?) we had for a lunch break. The food is well worth the effort. It's filling, not unhealthy, and delicious. The staff has never let me down when I want to try something new or order something really bizarre. It's one of the last places where you can get a fair deal for your cash. UPDATE: There seems to be some issued with guacamole lately. I visited a few months ago and from my position at the end of the line I heard someone at the front of the line exclaim "no more guacamole?!?!?!?". I was crestfallen somewhat. But hopeful. And naively so. I had wanted to try the much touted but as of then untested taqueria chain down the hill. Never again. So this time I visited Gordo's earlier in the day when I could be sure they'd have my favorite Mexican condiment / sauce / manna from heaven. And my long time Gordo's burrito cravings ended. So while I am dismayed that they run out of guac occasionally, this is a testament to their quality and tastiness. And I know that to make decent guac you need good avocados. And good avocados are hard to find on the scale that Gordo's needs them. Anyway, I'm still impressed and I'll always return.
My Regular Grilled Chicken burrito was kinda tasteless, but my daughter's Regular Bean and Cheese was quite good.
I’ve been coming here for 40 years, and they truly have the best burritos in the Bay Area. However, for the first time in four decades, my experience was a letdown. I ordered two Super Burritos to go with guacamole and sour cream, but when I got home, both were missing the sour cream. Worse, the flavor was off—some bites were completely bland while others were hit with way too much salt. I’m really hoping this was just a one-time "off" night for the kitchen, because this spot is usually my gold standard.
It used to be great here.I've been coming here for 25 plus years always had great service. Always had great food and always look forward to visiting the Albany location. When I was in town, designate my parents this last time. Was different? The guy making the food had no personality. Didn't really say much. Then, when I asked 4A burrito with just chicken and rice, he gave me a ton of rice, hardly any chicken. It was literally one and a half scoops of chicken. And I remember from coming here so many times normally it's 2 and a 1/2 heaping scoops of chicken, but this time it wasn't. So then I ordered a second burrito, the same way just to see if you would do the same thing to that burrito. And he did even less, he acted as if he was putting a heaping scoop in, but then he would at the last second dunk, most of it out. And then put it on the burrito, so at that point I said something to the lady at the. Register like Hey, can I get some extra chicken on my burrito? And she then spoke to the man, making it and looked at me and said, you want extra chicken? And I was like, no I want the chicken that I should have gotten originally. On the first burrito and on the second burrito, there's hardly anything in there. And you're charging me the same thing. So can I get what I paid for they argued with me for a minute? Finally, I just said, screw it. Whatever and then they screwed up. My girl's burrito right after that. When she didn't want rice, they put rice. She was asking for sour cream. They didn't put sour cream, and then they tried charging us for the sour cream. After it was like $57.00 for 3 burritos, I'll rip off if you ask me and the chicken was not very moist, like. It usually is kind of really disappointed in the place. It's went downhill in the last couple years. Sad to say I love this place. I would get 8 burritos when I visit my parents.Basically one burrito a day and sometimes I would get a couple to go on the road back up to washington, but now i'm afraid i'm not going to do that because of this one experience
I love my people and love to promotion my cultural food but this place always feels chaotic and like a money making machine. The people waiting for their to go order are crowding up on the cash register and the cashier is not available to talk or help you very much. They charge for every little thing and have no vegetables. This is wild
My husband doesn't speak Spanish and his first impression... this place needs to change their name to Flaco's! (Flaco means skinny Spanish). I'm Cuban but my family who's been here since the late 60's knows plenty about ordering and eating tacos and burritos. 🌯 I was beyond disappointed in this place. Why are El Cerritans and Albany neighbors recommending this place so highly on Nextdoor? It's beyond me, perhaps they have never eaten burritos from places we're accustomed to like El Farolito, La Taqueria, or places like La Cumbre in the San Francisco's Mission district. Sad that the uber ordering doesn't make it easy I can see how gringos could get this all wrong too! I actually had to call the restaurant before placing the order because the uber menu was a hot mess! Jocelyn told me to order regular burritos then to add on the guacamole, sour cream and cheese. Then, when I called to confirm the order she said I should have just ordered the Super Burritos which is what I had intended to but I couldn't get rid of pico de gallo in the cart?!!! Frustrating...she was a dear but she even confused me more, and she should have alerted me I had placed the order incorrectly. Oh well! She said "next time order like this...?" 🤷🏻♀️ I ended up paying much more than I needed to. Ok so enough about the ordeal in ordering let's get to the the food... Don't even think about ordering REGULAR burritos unless you're a kid or unless you like a flaco burrito😩. These burritos even with all the add-on's were tiny! The carnitas burrito was bigger because I ordered extra meat, but the carnitas were like cardboard and so dry we could barely chew them, the burritos all around with all the extra add ons I didn't need to order were all pretty lifeless, my guess, they were busy! Tips: DO NOT ORDER ONLINE unless you know Go into the taqueria and watch them make your burrito, they're trying to impress you they will be bigger! Never again gordos, I can't afford almost $70 for 4 lifeless and skinny burritos. Excuse me but consumers need to know. I hope they improve on their delivery orders especially. There's no way they are making burritos like this while you wait.
Over 16 dollars for a "Super Burrito" that was quite small. The pricing is no longer reasonable, Chipolte offers way more value although I would rather support a local business.
As you’re walking in to the right, there’s an older guy there serving I recommend you not go to him. Everything was great until I asked for an extra scoop of rice and he threw a few extra grains of rice and said to me you have to get a side order. It wasn’t what he said, but how he said it, and he threw his hands up and wrap my burrito up. I almost walked out. He has a terrible attitude and he needs to watch the way he talks to customers.
They charred the carnitas making the entire burrito bitter and taste terrible, I got this place due to good memories of the food but it has only gone downhill
Today, the burrito was actually good compared to other times when it's just super bland. However the service is just horrible. All three guys have the longest face ever. They are extremely rude. They act as if we are bothering them.By asking them what we want. None the less the cashier guy with piercings on his face outright rude and horrible attitude acted as I bothered him by asking for chips. Did not even greet me by saying if I wanted anything, I have to ask for it. He handed me my food without even acknowledged me or saying thank you or anything.
The quesadilla is possibly the worst quesadilla I have ever had. With barely any cheese and the quesadilla literally fell apart instantly. I was forced to eat it like a taco instead of a quesadilla, this was a horrible experience. The chicken was good but I would only order burritos from Gordos
We walked in the store, floor was soaking wet, Service was extremely apathetic and unhelpful, as well as a little judgmental because we didn’t know what we wanted yet. Given the fact that everything is over priced apart from the regular burrito. That was not good. They do not cook the tortillas, resulting in a sweaty soggy burrito. With a Center that was still slightly cold.
