This place is amazing. I just went to Japan over the summer, and this provides such a similar experience. The fish is great and the teapot is so cute! They even had madai and shima aji! Really wonderful service. Highly recommend over anywhere else in Portland at the moment.
My family and I wanted to treat ourselves to excellent sushi at a newly opened restaurant and were thoroughly impressed. We ordered the Omakase Nigiri, two rolls, and tempura. They were brought out as meticulously presented plates in large portions. Overall, the food was presented beautifully, the taste was top tier, and the hospitality from the staff was the cherry on top.
What a fantastic experience all around. Friendly staff and beautiful atmosphere. But the best part is the food! Even the miso soup is special (they make their own tofu y’all). I will be going back frequently with my partner for all our sushi date-nights.
Food was delicious. Want to come back to try more appetizers! The miso cod was delicious and soft. We got the poke roll, rainbow roll, and the lockdown. There were some issues with one of our rolls and they went ABOVE and BEYOND to make it right. Such kind people. Will definitely return!!!
This new restaurant definitely satisfied my sushi craving! We ordered a sashimi plate, a few rolls, and cocktails, everything was super fresh and well crafted. The food and vibe definitely aimed to provide an authentic Japanese dining experience. We will be back!
Some of the best service I've received, the atmosphere was super chill and relaxed and the people are so nice!
Great sushi, sake and service! The ingredients are always fresh. The food is authentic. The mixed cocktails are excellent. The bartender uses fresh ingredients and top shelf liquor! I highly recommend it!
I chose this place for my birthday dinner. It is very nicely appointed inside, with excellent facilities. The food is exceptional. The sushi was very fresh, tasty and had a large variety. The specific nigiri I chose well thought out. I enjoyed the tempura ice cream dessert.
Sushi Kuni is a sushi lover's paradise! They offer a fantastic range of seasonal and rare fish that'll keep you coming back for more. It's a must-visit for anyone looking for an exciting sushi experience.
Friendly, attentive staff, good atmosphere, and amazing food! Nigiri pieces are smaller but very well balanced. Most rolls are enough for a whole meal when paired with an appetizer or soup. Glad to have them on the summit!
Updated for January 2024. This is still the best sushi I've ever eaten in the US. And Canada. I haven't been to Japan since 1977 so I can't say if it's as good, but when you fly in fish from Japan, serve it correctly, and make the rice right... this Sushi is up there with the best. Updated. Brought friends here and they confirmed its the best sushi they've eating anywhere including Nobu in NYC. We had 3 of the special rolls plus hamachi and fatty tuna. Also edamame. All excellent fresh, clean, delicious. Next week I'm bringing my son and his wife for omakase! Wow. I'd never expect sushi this good in.... West Linn? I've been eating sushi a long time dating back to a summer in Japan in 1977. Sushi Kuni serves sushi that's among the best I've ever eaten. I had two "plain" pieces - including the folded omelet and fatty toro. Wowsers. I think this is better than Bamboo Sushi (which I like very much too.) Sushi served at the right temperature with high-quality ingredients. I'll be back. Too bad I live 5 minutes away!
Awesome, fresh sushi, some of the best flavors I’ve had. A bit pricey, but worth it in my view. Happy Hour from 4-6 has some good deals! 7/29 was their first day open.
Best sushi I've had, possibly ever. Amazing freshness, no gimmicks, just beautiful, perfectly balanced dishes. We ordered delivery, but I can't wait to order omakase in house. I would urge anyone reading to attend!
Second time visit for birthday celebrations. Best authentic Japanese restaurants in portland metro area for the freshness of seafood and delicious favor overall .Compared to a few pricy Japanese restaurants named top in state the restaurant has offered reasonable price on each dish with high quality
Outstanding. Really, really lovely. The service is warm and kind, the setting peaceful and beautiful, the settings on point, the food delicious and served just so. Absolutely perfect.
The rolls, sushi and sashimi are perfect! very fresh and is very comparable with the one in Japan. The service is nice and the service is very Japanese style as well.
High-Quality Fish and Authenticity. Every dish at Sushi Kuni showcases the high quality of fish they use. The sushi and sashimi taste exceptionally fresh, reflecting the authenticity of Japanese cuisine at its finest.
Went here on a whim on Monday night with my girl and it was easily the best place for sushi we've been too. Highly recommended. Also shoutout to the server we had she was on her A game all night with us I wish I remembered her name so I can give her her credit.
I've been to this place a few times now and they never disappoint. Fresh fish that melts in your mouth, scallops that are never chewy, fantastic service and great atmosphere. I've tasted at least half the menu and have loved every bite!
Love this place. My wife and I have been waiting for a good sushi place in WL for years. Something a bit better than sushi on a conveyor belt! Well it is here. Their rolls are unique and delicious!
I went in for the first time and will be going back on a regular basis! It was the best experience ever at a Sushi Restaurant/Bar I have ever experienced. The atmosphere and decor was top notch. Michael, the bartender was friendly, cordial and an expert making drinks. The staff was superb and I just can’t say enough about this wonderful addition to the West Linn neighborhood. It’s exactly what was needed! Oh, and the sushi choices were outstanding and delicious!
Have to say this place is impressive and welcome in the West Linn restaurant scene that is overall lacking in great options. While the exterior is standard retail setting, the interior is stunning. They didn't skip on details. Very well appointed and clean atmosphere. The real beauty lies in the experience a restaurant offers its guests. My wife and I have been here twice in the first opening week it's that good. Will be a regular for sure. The prices are incredible actually a little hard to comprehend because the quality is top notch. Would expect to pay more. Service is fantastic. Well staffed with knowledgeable and friendly service that delivers the top notch experience West Linn craves, but lacks. No more commutes to Lake Oswego for an amazing dining experience now! Sushi Kuni West Linn has it going on!
I recently had Sushi Kuni macaron cookies for dessert. It was a great way to end our meal. It was a incredible space with friendly staff. I will be back for sure!
We loved the cozy and welcoming feel of sushi kuni. The staff treated us like family and the food was phenomenal. Highly recommend for both casual dinners and celebrations
I’ve lived in the West Linn area my entire life and I’ve tried lots of different sushi restaurants. This is easily, by far the best sushi I’ve ever had. I asked one of the Hostesses about their ingredients and she said that they get it flown in overnight from Japan. Not only is the food amazing, the service makes me feel at home. The servers are so courteous and it seems like they really care about the customers. This is going to be an regular spot for me, genuinely just an incredible experience!
Sushi Kuni & Izakaya West Linn spoils West Linn residents with its wide variety of excellent Japanese food and drinks within easy reach. I find sushi excellent no matter where. But this restaurant has given a new meaning to sushi for me. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and gives guests the opportunity to feel secluded even during busier times.
Great dining experience! High quality sushi in a very peaceful environment. Easy parking and good service. Price points are higher than I expected but for the quality of sushi they serve, I would definitely come back!!
First time taking a weekend trip in Portland and heard from a friend to try this place for sushi. I loved the vibe, very clean and well kept. The bar area was a place to be, the bartender Mike was a cool dude. Had a great list of cocktail drinks and everyone in my party appreciated being well served by everyone there. Had to try the Sakura cuz it sounded cool, tasted amazing. My friends and i will definitely be back at this restaurant in the future.
Sushi Kuni is a hidden gem! They serve up some seriously unique and rare fish that you won't find anywhere else. I love how they keep things fresh with seasonal options, making each visit a delightful surprise. If you're a sushi enthusiast, you've got to give them a try – it's like a sushi adventure in every bite!
this place deserves so much hype because not only is the food so fresh but the staff are all so sweet. the hospitality was a 10/10 from walking in to the sweet girl bartender in the back! i felt so taken care of and was helped when i didn’t even think i needed it but did! the ambiance was adorable and every plate and drink was designed and catered to beautifully! cant wait to come back :)
Came here for a birthday dinner. Decor was fantastic and service was excellent. It was the best sushi/sashimi/nigiri I’ve had. Their combo rolls were also excellent (we had the Salamo and West Linn rolls). We’ll definitely be back. Didn’t get to try any of their sake but it looks like they’ve got a nice selection. Top quality.
The omakase at sushi kuni is a culinary journey. The flavors, presentation, and the pacing were spot on. The chef even explained each dish, which added a personal touch. Worth every Penny.
This place is DA BOMB! I went with my family who aren’t very familiar with sushi and Japanese food. The shock on their faces when they tasted these masterpieces. The appetizers are perfect with each one having very different taste. Apparently they fly in the fish themselves straight from japan every couple of days😮💨. You can really taste and see the differences compared to other sushi restaurants in the area. In my opinion Sushi kuni reigns supreme!
Love it here. Fresh sushi, exceptional service, and a cool vibe. Their house sake is surprisingly good. Toro was awesome. Will be back!
As far as I’m concerned? A hidden gem. The staff are SO kind and the seafood is fresh and delicious. Miso soup was really good too! It blew my expectations out of the water! The fatty tuna was prepared wonderfully.
I will not be rating this restaurant negatively despite the fact that I chose not to enter and have a meal here. However, Be warned: this restaurant is extremely expensive: over $40 per person to have a small portion meal here. The food looked very nice on other tables and I'm sure is excellent. The staff up front were very friendly and knowledgeable. Though this is West Linn, prices shouldn't be so high that only hedge fund execs and start up founders can afford to go to dinner. My wife and I instead shared a $17 tostada salad at the nearby Mexican restaurant for a cost of $8.50 per person before tip. That's how it should be for us.
I rarely bother to leave reviews but people need to hear how wonderful this place is. The fish is so fresh and the rolls are delicious. The place is spotless and the service is incredible. I like that they play music that goes with the ambiance and at the perfect low volume. The seats are very comfortable and the decorations of the place is lovely. I can tell they think of every detail, from the cute soy sauce bottles they use to the way they serve the wasabi into a flower shape. The moment I was low on my drink I was immediately offered a refill. Even the way they prepare the to go orders with such gentleness made me smile. I don’t even live here but locals definitely need to dine here. 💜💜💜
This place has phenomenal, authentic, amazing food! Not your average sushi restaurant. We usually come here for dates but our kids would be welcome and would enjoy the food. You definitely get what you pay for here, its prices are worth the high quality food!
Authentic japanese food, and my husband could tell the difference in the sashimi prepared. I have 3 pcs of thin cut black cod fillets marinated in miso and grilled to perfection. Very friendly and attentive staff. The food portion is small and pricey. We have tea and spent close to $100 with tips. Love the ambiance: modern, clean, and tastefully furnished japanese wares. Lots of parking and located in nice, and quiet neighborhood.
Me and my husband are obsessed with this place. We just found it on Google because it was close to our friend’s house. The fish was very fresh and they had a really good selection of nigiri. A bit on the pricier side, but it was such good quality. We also ordered the miso black cod and the glaze and was cooked to perfection. They also did a great job on the Agadashi tofu. The atmosphere and vibe was great and relaxing, while being family friendly. We for sure are coming back, only wish it was closer to us.
Great and super friendly service, fantastic food and amazing cocktails. I've never had such good sushi or mixed drinks! Loved the atmosphere as well, already making plans to come back with my family for my birthday.
Beautiful, diverse and extremely fresh fish selection. Skilled and knowledgeable sushi chefs. Haven’t enjoyed sashimi this much since Chicago.
My boyfriend and I live near downtown willamette and all of our sushi spots were closed, so we tried Sushi Kuni by Safeway. We were completely blown away the second we entered the restaurant. The atmosphere is so clean and cozy. We work in food service so we’re always looking around and paying attention to detail. Even the vents on the walls were clean. You don’t see that very often. The food was incredible and our server was so adorable and sweet. We’re sad we’ve lived 10 minutes away for 2 years now without trying this place. 10/10!
Very good place with amazing quality. Very pricy but worth a visit on special occasions. One critique, boba pearls were very hard and difficult to chew. Definitely needed to be soaked longer or something. Even gave my guest and I free miso soap. Nice, quiet spaces to sit.
I’ve been to many sushi restaurants in all the cities I’ve lived in and this is by far the best. They buy from the fish markets in Japan, drive to Seattle once a week to pick up their order. You can taste the difference compared to other sushi restaurants in Portland. The customer service, food, and ambiance is exceptional. When my niece visits me she loves when we go here. Now when I try other sushi restaurants in Portland they are nowhere near as good as here.
I had one business lunch and two family dinners with seniors from Asia here before. All perfect! Food is SO good! Quality, varieties. And the restaurant is clean and elegant.
Excellent quality and presentation of rolls, sushi and tempura. Everything we ordered was so delicious. Attentive and friendly service. Good value. Very generous amount of tender beef in the sukiyaki. Large selection of Sake and draft beers. Recommended 👍🏻👍🏻
This may be the best Japanese restaurant we've been to in Oregon so far. The place was clean, the server was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice, but most importantly, the sashimi was fresh. My body shows symptoms when I eat raw fish that wasn't fresh enough. But, this place was the 1st and only place I've tried in Oregon so far that my body didn't have a reaction afterwards. What a pleasant surprise! Which is why I'm giving it 5 stars. I normally give 4 stars as the highest on my 1st visit and adjust it after my 2nd visit but this place was just outstanding!
Delicious. The service was hospitable and charming and the restaurant has a nice relaxing atmosphere. We are looking forward to returning. It’s a gem.
Service-first. These folks nailed it. They're brand new, just getting things moving and although there was a little longer wait, they did not fail to deliver on anything. The quality was outstanding and food was plated well. We enjoyed a selection of different rolls, nigiri and apps. The restaurant interior was very nice and the atmosphere was comfortable. Definitely recommend getting a reservation on weekends. The experience was exactly as we had hoped. West Linn has needed a place like this for a while and we're very much looking forward to our next visit.
Sushi Kuni offers an exceptional dining experience, especially notable for its superb service. The lunch menu stands out, featuring special selections that are generously portioned, making it an ideal choice for business lunches. The ambiance of the restaurant is private and quiet, perfect for conversations. The attentive staff are particularly adept at understanding when diners need private moments, ensuring a comfortable and uninterrupted experience. This level of service and consideration makes Sushi Kuni a top choice for both casual and business dining.
One of our new go to places to eat. Great food every time. Only feedback is: it's confusing that their tables have the call button but they come check on you. I'd prefer that they pick one or the other. Maybe use the call buttons and have the host explain it to customers, to give that more authentic experience and make service more predictable.
Great menu and service. My family enjoys the atmosphere and food, and has had a positive experience with take-out. Highly recommend.
Im not great at food photos BUT I’m so thankful I stopped here on my trip. The chef is so talented and the staff were tremendously kind. Actually I ate here twice in one day. Would recommend to all🩷
We went here for lunch with a baby. The service was great. We ordered just about every type of item on the menu and were very satisfied. The selection offered surpassed our expectations and now we have a new family favorite restaurant.
We were really looking forward to the tasting menu, but it wasn’t available during our visit. That was a bit disappointing. That said, the fish was very fresh and beautifully presented. The sashimi bowl was generous, the uni was rich and creamy, and the yellowtail with jalapeño had great balance. Overall, a solid spot for quality sushi — just hoping to try the tasting menu next time.
Sushi Kuni is truly one of the best sushi restaurants in the state of Oregon. My family loves it and we enjoy the atmosphere, freshness of the sushi, and the staff. Truly a gem at the top of the hill in West Linn.
Great sushi! Very clean! Best I've had in Portland in 20 years of living here! Expertly presented and the service was wonderful! The new Wagu Beef tataki was very good but over priced for what you get and maybe a touch too much of Black pepper which slightly overpowers the dish. Miso soup is fantastic! I'll definitely be back! Domo Arigato!
We love this place! We eat here regularly, and truly enjoy the food, cocktails, service, and ambiance. The black cod miso yaki is our favorite dish - it's delicious and I highly recommend it. The veggie and shrimp tempura is the best I've ever had, with an interesting mix of eggplant, mushrooms, squash, lotus root, and onions - all lightly battered and served with a delightful dipping sauce (pour the dipping sauce on the black cod, it's so good). The cocktails, especially the Japanese 75 and the shiso gin drink (I can't think of the name), are well-balanced and mixed properly, and are very yummy. I tell everyone I know to try this place! Some of the food can seem adventurous if you're not familiar with Japanese fare, but it's all delicious and beautifully presented. Finally, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the owner is a very sweet and funny lady. All around, Sushi Kuni is a great dining experience and highly recommend checking it out.
My husband and I absolutely love this place. The fried oysters are perfectly crisp on the outside and so tender on the inside, easily the best we have had anywhere in the US. The sashimi is always fresh and full of flavor. The attention to detail and quality in every dish really shines through. This spot has become one of our favorites and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly delicious and authentic Japanese dining experience.
This restaurant is an absolute gem. Unassumingly located on top of Salamo Road in West Linn, the ambience is gorgeous, the food unparalleled and the staff warm and helpful. Their fish is consistently fresh, the sushi chef flexible to accommodations, the bar stocked with high end liquors and wines. A great date night venture, or sit at the sushi bar or proper bar for wonderful service and food.
Quality Japanese food. Like most of the reviews here. The price is on the higher end. Consider getting tv fish and ingredients overseas. It’s not unreasonable. We have lunch specials and it’s not a bad deal for ~$25. Needless to say, it’s premium dinning not like other cheap Japanese sushi experience. We really enjoyed it and will come back for dinner next time.
After ordering DoorDash from here many times we decided to go eat here for my 40th birthday lunch and it was perfection! We eat a lot of sushi and this restaurant has the freshest and highest quality Nigiri we’ve ever had. The toro was incredible, salmon belly was delicious and the uni was so good we ordered extra! The waitress was so welcoming when we arrived and throughout our meal. She was the sweetest most genuine server of all time! She went above and beyond during our lunch to make my birthday special. I can’t wait to go back!
Let’s talk @sushi.kuni.west.linn !! First off the service is absolutely amazing. Big shout out to Morgan and the whole team at Sushi Kuni because we consistently had drinks flowing and people checking in. Now the food, each plate was delicious but also aesthetically pleasing 😍 Some of my favorites: Jalapeño hamachi, the dragon roll, salmon sashimi, and the gyoza were crispy but a perfect filling!
Moving to Beaverton from Seattle, one of the things we were the most concerned about was leaving all our favorite sushi restaurants behind. Well, now that we've found Sushi Kuni, we can rest easy. We went in with reasonable expectations; after all it was a sushi restaurant in a strip mall and mostly empty on a Tuesday night. However, even if we had gone in with drastically different ideas on how well the night would go, we still would have had any expectations surpassed. We sat and got chatting with Chef Aki who was extremely welcoming and friendly, and set a perfect tone for the evening. The waitress took our drink order, and bar manager Michael brought out an excellent sake flight to start things out. As our first dish of our Omakase order was brought out, I realized just how exceptional our meal was about to be. Fresh uni, served on a seared scallop on top of a sesame cracker with seaweed garnish, adorned with caviar and gold flake. Again, expectations. Thoroughly shattered only on plate one. As we continued our night, the food and host continued to be nothing short of fantastic. We ordered a round of cocktails, and even though the bar was out of one ingredient for one of the drinks, Michael was able to improvise and come up with something that I can only imagine was better than what we would have originally received. I was so impressed that I asked for Michael to make me whatever he wanted, and he brought up something off the upcoming cocktail menu that wasn't available just yet. It was some sort of fruity smoky cocktail, and while I don't remember all the ingredients, all I can say is that when the fall 2023 cocktail menu comes out, you really owe it to yourself to give it a try. We finished our meal and drinks, and concluded that we have found our new go-to spot for a treat to ourselves, and can't recommend Sushi Kuni highly enough.
Authentic, thoughtfully prepared sushi and cocktails in an unsuspecting corner of West Linn! We celebrated my mom’s birthday with the sushi omakase prepared and served by Aki, an experienced and valuable chef. We were so impressed with each “gift” presented to us. I promised my mom I would at least try everything (I’m a medium adventurous eater) and I am SO HAPPY I bellied up to the sushi bar with an open mind! Sea scallop with uni and caviar and gold leaf on top was not my “go-to” sushi order but was a delicacy I won’t soon forget. It’s Izakaya so there’s a lot of thought and love put into the cocktails and sake experience as well! Will be making the trip from Portland again. So worth it! Thank you to the wonderful servers and kitchen for being so welcoming and proud of your workplace. It shows.
I had an incredible dining experience at Sushi Kuni! The service was exceptional from start to finish, with friendly staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and attentive to our needs. But what really stood out was the quality of the sushi. Sushi Kuni imports their fish directly from Japan, and you can tell - it was incredibly fresh and tasted amazing. I appreciated that they never compromise on quality, and it really shows in the taste and presentation of their dishes. I particularly enjoyed the nigiri, which was expertly prepared and melted in my mouth. The rolls were also creative and delicious - I especially loved the Spider Roll with its crispy tempura filling. Overall, I highly recommend Sushi Kuni for anyone looking for a top-notch sushi experience. The combination of excellent service and incredibly fresh, high-quality fish makes it a must-visit spot for sushi lovers.
Our long wait for Sushi Kuni to finally open, did not disappoint! It's their soft-opening, but they were terrific on all points! The food was beautiful and delicious, the staff was super friendly, the atmosphere made us feel like we were somewhere in Japan..they even have a super cute Tea House to take photos next to! West Linn really needed a place like this that has awesome food, drinks and appetizers and open late! Yay! We're so glad that they finally opened! Definitely do check out Sushi Kuni! This will be our new goto place! We definitely highly recommend!
Excellent food, and great tonkatsu and tempura (very crispy while also not too dry). Sushi rolls are excellent in taste and quality but that's also reflected in the price. Online ordering system can be unreliable, be careful of double charging (once when ordering online, once in person).
We were there on Mother's Day. They were busy so the service was very slow. My husband's rice and teriyaki chicken was cold and came out to the table way before any of the other food. He finished his before any of us had gotten anything. They also forgot part of our order. We had to ask twice to get all that we ordered. Food was very good when we finally got it. I'll try the restaurant again, just not on a holiday.
Our first time checking this place out. Great job West Linn bringing in a higher level sushi restaurant! This isn’t kaitenzushi i.e. conveyor belt sushi with colored plates. You should expect to pay $50-60 per person for dinner, minus cocktails. Restaurant atmosphere is very nice with several seating options like booths, bar, sushi bar, and one large table for a big group. Nigiri sushi is a bit on the smaller size, even for Japanese standards. My wife, who is Japanese and her father is a sushi master in Japan, said it’s sort of like Ginza sushi size. Fish is excellent quality and I believe our server said they fly in especially from Japan and Spain. We also ordered tempura and karaage which were great too. Also a lot of fusion rolls for the Americans :-) They are new and I believe still working through things. Menu has a lot of spelling mistakes! Request: give oshibori towels ArigatouGozaimashita! gochisousamadeshita!
The overall experience at Sushi Kuni & Cocktail Bar was good. The sushi and sashimi were fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. The hot dishes like katsu and agedashi tofu were enjoyable, and the small plates had nice flavors without being too heavy. Cocktails paired well with the food and added to the dining experience. Nothing was bad, though some dishes could use a bit more balance or refinement, but overall it was definitely a pleasant meal and worth visiting if you’re craving sushi with cocktails in a relaxed setting.
A little gem with a lot of sparkle! Newly opened in West Linn within the past 6 months but yet the overall experience made you feel like its been around even longer. It’s currently reservation preferred but we managed to get in after a 15-20min wait. Thank you! Service✅, Food✅, Atmosphere ✅. Mahalo Sushi Kuni & Izakaya Restaurant! 🤙🏽
Sushi quality was very good but, we made a 7:00 reservation for the sushi bar they called me to confirm, we arrived at 650 they gave our seats away and said they thought that was us, guess they dont ask for a name when checking in a reservation, so we sat at a table the waitress was nice but needs more training on time management also her friends came in from out of town and she spent most of her time talking to them and forgetting about the rest of our order that sat there and was not the best temp for sushi by the time we received it. the owner and his other staff were very nice but the whole experience was just one bad situation after another. would like to go back and sit at bar next time hopefully will be a better situation.
It was okay overall. By no means bad, but I wouldn't write home about it. Tried it after hearing a rave review. For being so close to the coast, it was overpriced if anything. I've had equal if not better sushi in CO for much less. I'd go back if not for the price which I can't justify. A California roll shouldn't NEVER be $12, even if they're using real crab.
The staff and space were good! Even though the food was brought out fast.....the food was just ok not great. Pricey for me. No dinner combos.
We had reservations and arrived early. The host seated us next to the front door, which is fine, but I requested very nicely if we could have a different spot away from the front door. She passed me off a bit was just said “no, we’re busy.” She wasn’t rude but just wasn’t very understanding. Then she proceeds to sit couple after couple in the main part of the restaurant. Food was good through.
We were very excited to try this new sushi restaurant with our family from out of town! We were overall happy with the food quality but our server was very dull, incompetent and had no idea what she was doing! She never smiled, she was improperly dressed and was annoyed by every single thing that we asked! They were out of almost every item we wanted and had no liquor available. There were typos on the menu and the food was extremely over priced for the overall service and lack of menu availability that we received! A word of advice to the owners, if you are going to open a new restaurant, make sure you have the items available on the menu, a staff that is well trained, and if you don’t then wait to open!
Nice atmosphere. Food was good, but pricey. Appetizers for the table were delivered at the same time as a few of our entrees. One appetizer was missing. Timing and Service was off. It was kinda busy, but we were just a table of four. Maybe just a bad night. Update: Thanks for your quick response. This really wasn't about the miso soup. We only discovered we didn't recieve it towards the end of our dinner. More about the timing. Appetizers were delivered to 1/2 our table while the other side waited. Then an entree was delivered to the couple that had already received their appetizers. Eventually everyone got their appetizers and entrees. Servers seemed at times confused and rushed. It was a busy night.
2023/02/02: We became regular and told our friends to come eat here. However, I am sad to report back how disappointed we were for the very last two to-go experiences. Shrimp tempura was undercooked and tonkatsu didn’t have greens (salads) in the box two weeks ago. Today the tonkatsu was half thick, dry and not tender as used to be, plus is 30% more expensive now. If this is the going quality for this restaurant, we won’t come again. Edit: called the manager and was told they had a new chef. This is not a good excuse unless this kind of quality is the new standard. Original post: Pork tonkatsu is one of the best you can find in PDX, juicy while not getting dry. Shrimp tempura is authentic Japanese style and is very good. One star deduction for their Agedashi tofu, it tastes fine but its broth is not the kind I prefer, too thick. Overall food quality is great including sushi although it can become $$$$ if you order too many. I’d go back again.
We got a large takeout order for the first and last time. I gave a 2 star instead of 1 only because maybe an in restaurant dining experience would be a different outcome. The food tasted good but we got sick from it, miserable food poisoning over the next 24 hour period. It was oddly warm inside the restaurant when I picked up, I even heard another customer leaving saying how hot it was inside. I don't know if that had anything to do with the quality of our food or not. Seems like a nice place and we are avid sushi goers but will not be trying out this place again.
I am sorry I do not recommend this restaurant. In my opinion One Star is even too much. I understand they just opened up but waitress do not know the menu even though everything was computerized. I ordered two piece sushi and they charged me sashimi price and refund takes forever and it is not right amount. When you go there take your time and look over your bill thoroughly especially it is "happy hour". Well it was my first time and I do not think I am going back there again. Sorry.
Food is ok. But the young female Asian waitress just disgusts me with her extraordinary fetish male totalitarianism and ungraceful patriarchal thinking and behaviors. Every time she brought food to the table she would serve the male customers first. Probably it's for the purpose to earn more tips for her serving job, she tirelessly and shamelessly came back to customer tables so excessively many times non-stop to interrupt customers dining and to brown-nosing all the male diners obsequiously. Totally a cheap and demeaned character, with no professional respect towards female customers and diners at all. This culture of discrimination against women and degrading behavioral pattern towards female customers is tolerated and would happen only here, no-where else. Shame.
Track sushi quality, at Bamboo or Sinju prices. Insane price, bad quality, nothing special on the sushi side of things. If the prices were cut in half, it would be a great place to come get a quick bite, like a track sushi spot. For $22 a roll, I was expecting something quality and unique. Nope. Boring, average, medium quality fish. Spend your $$$ elsewhere
