Why wait in line at Wah Fung No.1 for char siu when you can get EVEN BETTER char siu right next door with NO LINE!? New Kim Tuong might be one of the most underrated cantonese roast meat spots in NYC. It’s a no-frills, quick casual shop with some indoor seating. What surprised me most was that the char siu was piping hot when they handed it over. Steam rushed out of the takeout box when I opened the lid! Only $12/lb is easily one of the best deals you’ll find in Chinatown. The char siu was thick-cut, super juicy, and tender, with the perfect half-fat, half-lean balance (半肥瘦). It even had a malt sugar glaze and caramelized, charred edges. My mom ordered the two BBQ meats over rice for just $9, and the portion was generous. The char siu and roast duck completely covered the rice, with a solid serving of pickled cabbage on the side. Honestly a great bang for your buck. ***CASH ONLY

You should manage your expectation when you go here. The people seem rude with attitude, but they are really nice people. They won’t manage the line, so manage it yourself. This is NYC so expect everyone to try to cut ahead of you. The sit down area is very basic. The food is always good. I really like this place. Strongly recommend the wings.

This roast pork and char siu shop is considered a long-established brand in Chinatown. Affordable Cantonese cuisine Three-piece char siu is my favorite. It's fine to eat it occasionally, but it gets a bit greasy if you eat too much.

To be real honest this meal will cost like $16 in a different location...BUT HERE ITS ONLY $7 and if you want to eat inside its $8....let me tell you the taste of the meat was delicious crispy outside and tender in the middle..the sauce goes perfect and the white rice thank God it's not plain it has some flavor....definitely will be back with my daughter..lol

New Kim Tuong in Chinatown, New York City, is an absolute gem! From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with warm smiles and the enticing aroma of authentic Chinese cuisine. But the real stars of the show were undoubtedly the BBQ pork and the roast duck. Let's start with the BBQ pork – I can honestly say it was the best I have ever tasted. The pork was incredibly tender and juicy, with a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. The caramelized glaze was simply divine, creating a delightful sticky texture that made each bite a moment of pure bliss. My taste buds were singing! And then there was the roast duck. Oh my goodness! The skin was unbelievably crispy, shattering with the slightest touch, while the meat underneath remained succulent and flavorful. The subtle hints of traditional Chinese spices elevated the dish to another level. It was cooked to absolute perfection, a true testament to the chef's skill and expertise. Beyond the exceptional food, the service was also top-notch. The staff were attentive, friendly, and efficient, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was bustling and authentic, adding to the overall charm of the restaurant. If you're looking for a truly unforgettable culinary experience in Chinatown, look no further than New Kim Tuong. Their BBQ pork and roast duck are not to be missed – they are, without a doubt, sensational. This restaurant has earned every one of its five stars, and I can't wait to return for another incredible meal. Highly, highly recommended!

Honest review. I’ve always wanted to go to the place that’s a couple of feet from this location where the big line is. But I don’t feel like waiting in a long line. So I found this place on tik tok where they said it was a good alternative instead of being in line. I agree. I think it’s delicious food and quick service. Definitely worth coming for.I ordered the 3 meats over rice. Duck, pork, and chicken. The chicken was my least favorite not because of the taste but because it was already a bit cold, I’m assuming because not many people order it? In second came the duck I was confused on how to eat it because it had bone so I ate it and it was an actually pretty good. The pork though was very flavorful and tasty, definitely the best out of the three in my opinion.

Char siu is so good. The portions are HUGE for just 7 bucks - can't beat the price for this amount of food. The char siu is tender and juicy. Highly recommend. No lines too!

This place needs more recognition and love. I’m Also one of those who came for the other place but didn’t want to wait. Let me tell you, this place did not disappoint at all!! I love their roast duck and pork, this is exactly what I was looking for. And so affordable! Will definitely come here again.

Delicious and well priced! I had the two meat option over rice - duck and pork. The pork was well brined and duck flavorful too. The beef and chinese broccoli came with a generous portion of rice.

It’s definitely a place where locals go to. I didn’t really know what to get because there is so much stuff on the menu. Def place to get pork and beef! After long deliberations I got no. 140 Seafood with bean curd and 152 Squid w salt and pepper (but without the pepper). Seafood dish was really good. There were scallops and shrimp in the dish in a light brownish sauce. Not sure how the squid and pepper was supposed to taste, but the squid was quite salty and it was fried. We off course ate the whole thing, I was just surprised how salty the squid was. Also the dishes didn’t come with rice. But that was my fault because I didn’t think to ask for it.

It’s easy to pass by this place and not give it a chance, but this is a true hidden gem. We ordered char siu and thit heo quay (crispy pork belly in Vietnamese) and it was delicious. This place is a quick grab and go and it sure beats standing in a long line at the spot next door. There are some chairs and tables to eat your food, but there is no wait service. Will come back!

Dropped by New Kim Tuong for some roast meat on rice after seeing the long queue at Wah Fung—and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised! Got a generous portion for $8.50, which came packed with rice and meat. The roast pork was yummy, and while the duck was a little on the drier side and the skin wasn’t super crispy, it still hit the spot. A pretty solid option if you’re craving roast meats without the wait!

Not bad..some pieces of the duck do have more bone but at least there’s meatier pieces included – been to other places where it was all bone (Corner28). The char siu was tough to chew this time, and I’ve had their roast pork in the past and really like it. Do know that they charge an extra $1 if you dine in.

Food was okay. Still cheap but pricier than other Chinese spots in the area. The line wasn’t that long but it took like 20 min to just order food :/ - BBQ pork and BBQ duck over white rice: 6/10, meh have had better. There were also a bunch of bones *Note: Cash only, and if you want to dine in, it’s $2 extra - they’re pretty strict on this

Food was okay, I got pork and some pieces were soft and some were really chewy I couldn't eat. Had good flavor and rice was hot and soft. English is limited and cash only. Menu said $7 for meat over rice, guy charged me $8, but portion was great. Also I get some people are direct, not rude but the guy literally threw our change back at us. Went around 2pm and waited about 15mins from getting in line to getting food, so much quicker than next door. Indoor seating is extremely limited so plan to eat to go.

Like many, used to be a fan of Wah Fung No 1 before it turned viral. Today we passed by it and saw the line was 23 people strong. So we immediately recalled seeing a Tik Tok post saying the BBQ a few doors has the same thing but without the line. We decided to give it a shot. First, I'm not amused by the inconsistency of the restaurant name. The signage on the awning says "New Kim Tuong", the Chinese says "Jin Shang", and the menu says "Kien Tuong". I had to look up Google and Yelp to see what it is referred to by the populace. Not cool. Not sure if this is a full service restaurant as there are a few small tables inside, with menus, but most people ordered to go. We ordered the first item on the cover of their take-out menu, 1 BBQ meat over rice. We picked pork. $7 vs $8 at Wah Fung. I would say the portion is slightly less. The pork wasn't as moist or tasty. So if you bail out of Wah Fung, you can get a quick substitute here. But personally, if time permit, I'd go to Hey Hey Roasted on Mott Street instead.

We heard a lot about this place serving affordable BBQ over rice without the long wait like Wah Fung, so of course after trying Wah Fung, we wanted to check this spot out too. We went on a random Tuesday around 3PM — no wait at all, just walked in and ordered. I noticed the menu had Vietnamese on it, so I tried speaking Vietnamese to the butcher, but he didn’t understand. After hearing the staff talk to each other, I realized none of them were Vietnamese. Just something I found interesting. We originally wanted two meats over rice, but they were out of pork and only had duck left, so we went with duck. It’s cash only. We ate there since they have tables and seating, and they provide Sriracha and other condiments on the table. Looking at the menu, they actually offer a lot more than just BBQ — there are other Chinese dishes as well. The first bite came with high expectations because we were hungry, but honestly, it was disappointing. The rice was too wet and overcooked, the vegetables were bland with no seasoning, and the duck was just okay. Only a few pieces had solid meat — most were small pieces with bones. We were so disappointed we couldn’t even finish it. We just ate some of the meat and left the rest. To be honest, $7 for one meat over rice is actually more expensive than Wah Fung, and the portion wasn’t very filling. The only plus is that they have seating available. I guess we still haven’t found our go-to Chinese BBQ spot yet — maybe we’ll have better luck in Chinatown.

I'm not sure what was colder, their meat or their attitude. The person taking my order was really rude for no apparent reason and I see that many other people had the same experience there. The meat was cold which is another thing others have mentioned in their reviews. This place is a major L. Nom Life really disappointed me with this rec and Great NY Noodletown for their roast meat sets. Hay Hay Roasted was good though. And Wah Fung which is right by New Kim Tuong is also good*. I hope Wah Fung continues to crush New Kim Tuong because of how disrespectful they are here. I don't even know how these disrespectful people serving cold food aren't out of business yet. There wasn't even a long line at Wah Fung today but I was thinking why not try out a new spot and also help out a different small business instead of the one everyone is always lined up at. Help out the underdog, you feel me? I regret that now and I'll definitely never go back. I'll be happy once this place goes under and is replaced by a better small business. *One time I waited around 40 minutes in line at Wah Fung just for them to tell me and a bunch of other people in line that they ran out of food. So they're not without their faults either. So overall the only roast meat set spot in Manhattan Chinatown that I have only had good experiences at is Hay Hay Roasted.

My father was trying to order noodles and congee, but cannot speak Cantonese. Rather than having someone who can speak English assist with taking his order, but just ignored him. Despite trying to get their attention multiple times, they refused to acknowledge him. It's a shame knowing the workers can understand him as well, as my mom and I have ordered here in English a few times before. We will not be going back here.

honestly much better spots in nyc chinatown for roast meat like big wong - paid $18 for very small portions that were ice cold and not crispy at all. not to mention the trash was just a trash bag on the floor. service was fine, no complaints.

I only write bad reviews whenever I feel like it is really needed. This place was absolutely horrible not just the attitude from the people especially the woman upfront charging, but the food was extremely cold. I would have rather had a McChicken than this place. terrible food terrible service. Do not recommend. Please do not spend your money. They even charge you extra for sitting down at the restaurant, it’s absolutely robbery.

Garbage attitude and garbage food. The lady that took our order was extremely rude. We ordered our food to go as we were going to eat some of it now and the rest at home. Once we got our food and were getting ready to sit down at one of the tables, the lady said if we eat inside, it’s $2 extra with an attitude. We decided to eat outside and the food was cold and tasted like cat food. Do not recommend this place.

food was okay at best with decent portions. however, most of my roasted duck was bone?and WOW, the service may have set a new all time low for me: extremely rude and dismissive to a paying customer. maybe try coming here if you can speak fluent chinese and are prepared to sweet talk for baseline service and a combo that isn’t 50% bones.
