Ledford House offers amazing views, impeccable service, and delicious food, making it a memorable experience for special occasions. Filet mignon, oysters, and the bistro special are highly recommended. Some found the interior dated and some dishes lacking flavor.

For my birthday celebration during our weekend getaway to Mendocino, we dined at the Ledford House, where we were welcomed with complimentary champagne. I started with the baked oysters, followed by a delicious plate of gnocchi for my main course. The chocolate martini was a standout, perfectly crafted and indulgent. My husband opted for the chicken cacciatore with linguine as part of the three-course menu, and we finished off the meal with the decadent brownie pudding. Our hostess was exceptional, making us feel like VIPs throughout the evening. I managed to snap a photo of the oysters, but we were so immersed in the experience that we didn’t take photos of the rest of the meal. A truly unforgettable dining experience!
We had a beautiful evening at the Ledford House. We made our reservation early so we could have a cocktail while watching the sunset. The views can't be beat when it comes to watching the sunset. Tony took us to our table and checked in on us several times during our dining experience, as he did with all the guests. Tim was our waiter and our photographer 🙂 he was really good. Our food was delicious. And you can't forget about the fresh baked bread! I think I got the best deal in town with the Bistro Special for $30. It came with a salad, a main course and dessert. If you are in the area I highly recommend you plan to have dinner here.
It’s the little things! I am a local and had a craving for some good soup. Driving by, I saw that the parking lot was totally full and there was a line out the door. I called and immediately a nice woman picked up. I asked her if it was possible to get a bowl of soup to go and she said “of course“ and I said I see there’s a line out the door, what should I do and she said to just come in through the line and the soup will be ready for me in two minutes. Sure enough, it was ready and she cheerfully greeted me and immediately did the credit card transaction. When I got back to my car I saw that the heavy bag contained a generous amount of soup and a quarter of a loaf of bread with a side of olive oil and also a side of delicious olives. Plus cutlery. Anyway, how impressive that in a moment of them being absolutely slammed I got this kind of over the top service on a to go order. I’m eaten here many times and every time I am thoroughly impressed. It’s good to note that the owner/manager, I think that’s the case, is working right along side the other servers. I also know that before the shift begins, all the staff sit down for a community meal. There’s good stuff going on here. Oh, and how about the outside dining with the ocean view!
Came here for my birthday dinner. They were able to fulfill our special request to have a window seat on their busiest night. Food was delicious and flavorful as well as fairly priced for the quality and quantity. Our waiters were friendly and we had a lovely conversation with them and the owner. Will visit again!
We were on our 20th anniversary trip, taking a small road trip from San Francisco up the PCH to see the redwoods at Avenue Of The Giants when we stumbled on this amazing restaurant. We didn’t know what to expect but we were greeted by Tim at the door who was so friendly and immediately made us feel welcome. We were stunned by the ocean view from every single table in this elegant restaurant. The waitstaff were attentive and so nice. The food was the best food we had the entire trip, including steakhouses in San Francisco that cost three times as much. Chef Lisa is a superstar and it feels like we discovered an incredible culinary secret that this quiet little beach town in Northern California has been keeping. The filet was like pudding it was so tender and perfectly cooked with an incredible crust, the purée potatoes were so creamy and packed with flavor. Everything we ordered was perfection and if you’re a foodie I highly recommend the road trip to visit everyone at Ledford House. You will have a perfect day with the beautiful drive up the PCH finished off with one of the best meals of your life, guaranteed.
I can't remember the last time I went out to dinner and LOVED every single course. To start- we had boulevardiers and a tasty local cab sauv from Sonoma. Then escargot and oysters- both were fabulous. The oysters were fresh and light and not too brine-y. For our main courses, we had a rabbit pot pie and peppered filet mignon for such a reasonable cost (10oz filet for $36 is such a steal). Both were cooked perfectly and perfectly well balanced. Last course- bread pudding.. so good that we ordered another one shortly after the first. Everything was absolutely delicious and we will recommend this restaurant to everyone who visits mendocino. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Oh also, the staff is super friendly and helpful in choosing what to get.
Everything was to go, due to COVID but the quality of the food was outstanding. We had roasted garlic with herbed goat cheese and potato au Gratain with pesto, roasted bell peppers and Gruyer. Deeeeeelightful!! It was such a simple dinner but so tasty. For dessert we had Strawberry Rhubarb Pie - delicious!! After COVID is done we'll be back to done at this beautiful restaurant by the Sea - for today it was a perfect reminder of the food we enjoy while eating out... Simple, Delicious and packed with flavor. Thank you Ledford House!
Service was great. Food was very good. The special is pretty cheap and you get what you pay for. It isn't spectacular, but it's a nice way to try a few things. I had the cassoulet and it was well made and very flavorful. My partner has the special and he liked it but was a bit disappointed with the portion, but like I said, you get what you paid for. Dessert is a must here. Beautiful location with an incredible view. Highly recommend this place for your trip to Mendocino.
It was Mom’s 90th. My sister and I were going to take her to Harbor House; decided against it because of the ridiculously high price. We settled on Ledford. But in actuality “settled” is a poor word choice. The place was FABULOUS! It offered everything one could ask for: Outstanding ocean views, wonderful food options and exemplary service. Folks…. no need to look any further. THIS is the place. And let me add….you’re welcome!
Great experience, two days in a row. On my wife and my trip to Mendocino we decided to stop go to dinner at this restaurant to watch the sunset because of its location on the ocean. We called at 6pm for reservations because of our friend COVID-19 who is really overstaying his unwelcome. They said they didn't take reservations but said we could order over the phone and pick it up at 7, their closing time, but they would allow us to eat on the balcony outside the restaurant. We arrived late, around 7:10, picked up our food in fancy plastic containers and were shown to our table outside. The food was OMG. The wait staff served us until 830, sunset time. The service was great. We stopped by again the next day for our dinner on the way out and tried other dishes and they too were so wonderfully delicious. This place really is a gem. I highly recommend.
Food was awesome! From their bread to the desert to the beer was so so good! Atmosphere is nice, the views, breath-taking! Great price for high quality food. When we go back in the area, we will go back here. you have to come here, it is delicious!
We had amazing time and enjoyed the food immensely! We came celebrating a birthday and you made sure to make the birthday girl feel special throughout the entire experience. The food was phenomenal with tastes ranging from decadent to "I feel like I am in a cozy cabin in the woods". On top of the food and service the view is unbeatable, I feel silly asking for an ocean view during the reservation now (its all ocean view). As a last note, we were shocked with the bill (in the best way), we went to spoil ourselves and got 2appetizers, 2 cocktails total, 3 entrees, 2 deserts, and 3 lattes and we spent less total each than brunch at a cafe the next day. Thank you for the lovely time, we'll be back!
Can’t say enough good things about Ledford. From the ambience and beautiful vibes to the incredibly delicious food, everything was perfect. The service was absolutely fantastic—so warm and inviting. We celebrated our 5th anniversary and they surprised us with champagne, which made the evening feel even more special. Such a classy place. It truly has my heart, and we’ll definitely be back.
Went to Ledford House on our final night on the coast and it was a highlight of the trip. I had the Bistro Special which is a daily 3 course meal which changes every day. The fish cakes were delicious and I also enjoyed the roasted beets salad.
My wife and I have been to many fancy restaurants, but this one takes the cake. As soon as we walk in, they wished us a happy anniversary and sat us in one of the best seats available, at an ocean view window table. In addition, they offered us complimentary champagne 🥂 for our anniversary. Tim was our waiter and he was one cool guy. We had a blast with him and he was always attentive and made sure we we're full satisfied. The food was incredible. We had potato arugula soup, potato parsnip pot pie, a vegetarian tart, potato gnocchi, broccolini, bread, desert and amazing drinks. I highly recommend the Espresso Martini. As vegetarians we were highly satisfied with our meals. If I could, I'd rate Ledford a 10/10. Thank you for making our anniversary so special and a night to remember for the rest of our lives. Tim, we hope to see you again next time we come!!!
Great restaurant with a great view. I’ll say it is pricey but everything was fabulous! I did the three course bistro special. It came with a blackberry salad, Gnocchi with rabbit sausage, and a chocolate crème dessert. All three were fantastic! My wife got the filet, it was cooked perfect and overall she liked it. The seasoning used on top was different but good she said. We ordered and shared a bottle of wine. You get more instead of buying by the glass. Plus what you don’t drink you can take back with you. It’s worth the visit!
This place was recommended by our friends to celebrate my birthday. The food was excellent! The staff was great. The fog was in, so we didn't have a view of the ocean. I imagine sunsets are amazing from this restaurant. The interior is somewhat dated, but it was fine.
We’ve dined twice here over the last 2 years and both times, everything was fabulous…the cocktails, food, service and the ambiance!! Last night we started with cocktails and baked oysters, followed by a beet salad. For our mains, we ordered the duck breast and cassoulet. The duck breast was cooked perfectly and my cassoulet (a French white bean stew with duck confit, sausage and rabbit) was a perfect savory dish for the rainy, cold weather we’re having right now. The staff are attentive and courteous and as everyone mentions, you cannot beat the ocean views from almost anywhere inside the restaurant. We will be back again next trip.
Found this place by chance searching on Resy. Did a reservation not expecting much, even though reviews were solid. Came to the place about 30 minutes before reservation, yet they sat us in a nice window table with an amazing view of the Pacific. Most tables have this amazing view. The service was friendly, on time and helpful. The food was amazing. I ordered the Filet Mignon, and I cannot remember when I had such a great piece of meat. It was tender almost to the point to melt in my mouth. The outside was charred but the inside was almost butter. I had it medium-rare. The shank was superb too. The vegetables and potatoes were super tasty and complemented the proteins nicely. The restaurant will be a superb alternative for anyone visiting the Mendocino area. I cannot recommend enough.
Amazing views and impeccable service. If you're in the Albion area, you should definitely stop by for dinner. Make reservations ahead of time for a good seat.
Returning to the Ledford House after 20 years felt like reuniting with an old friend—one that has aged gracefully, maintained its charm, and still knows how to host a perfect evening. Dining on Sunday, February 17, their last night before vacation, was a reminder of why this Albion gem has remained a beloved destination for so long. The ambiance was a seamless blend of warmth and sophistication. Nestled above the rugged coastline, the immaculate grounds were a serene prelude to the experience, with the sound of the ocean setting the mood. Inside, the dining room was cozy, welcoming, and just lively enough to feel celebratory without drowning out conversation. The staff? Simply fantastic—knowledgeable, courteous, and, most importantly, genuinely enjoying their work, which added an effortless joy to the evening. The meal opened with bread so good it deserved its own standing ovation. A mix of light and dark slices, it struck the perfect balance of crispy crust and pillowy-soft center. Even the green olives—normally not our first choice—disappeared from the table in record time, a testament to their irresistible flavor. But the roasted garlic appetizer stole the early show. Perfectly caramelized and swimming in olive oil and herbs de Provence, it paired flawlessly with crostini and chèvre, each bite a luxurious, finger-licking indulgence. The duck entrée transported me back to my time in France. Tender, succulent, and elevated by a dried cherry cabernet reduction, it was a masterpiece, expertly complemented by garlicky mashed potatoes and crisp, vibrant vegetables. Each bite was a harmonious blend of richness and refinement. Then there was the filet mignon, a showstopper in its own right. The blue cheese port sauce, touched with just the right amount of black pepper, elevated the already perfectly cooked steak to "très magnifique" status. For dessert, we opted for the house-made grapefruit sorbet with a lavender cookie—a brilliantly refreshing finale. The citrusy brightness of the sorbet cleansed the palate, while the delicate floral notes from the cookie tied everything together. Dining at the Ledford House was not just a meal—it was an experience, a reunion with impeccable flavors, exceptional service, and an ambiance that soothes the soul. If this was their last night before vacation, they certainly ended on a high note. Here's to hoping it won’t be another 20 years before I return! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – A Must-Visit Culinary Gem on the Mendocino Coast
This was our third meal at Ledford. We eat there for date nights, birthdays and when we feel like splurging. The staff is a perfect mix of professional and casual. The dining room is situated with a beautiful ocean view, even when the fog rolls in and out. The food. The food! Absolutely the best Filet Mignon. Amazing halibut. Legit gnocchi. Beet salad is multi textural and mixes at least 6 specific flavors. The warm bread. The dessert!! We have always had an amazing experience. Put Ledford on your bucket list. It’s back on mine
My husband and I truly enjoyed our 9th wedding anniversary dinner with the phenomenal food and service at the beautiful Ledford House! We were greeted by maitre’d Tony with the kind offer of a complimentary glass of champagne in honor of our anniversary and were thrilled when he quickly and seamlessly offered an NA option when he saw our hesitation. The glass of delicious Ôpia NA Sparkling Chardonnay set the mood for a truly delightful gastronomic adventure featuring starters of the Duck Pâté, Rustic Tart, and Garden Greens followed by the Lamb Shank for my husband and the Cassoulet for me. As non-drinkers, we were also thrilled to see a nice collection of delicious NA beverage offerings and enjoyed a bottle of the local Navarro Pinot Noir grape juice with our meal that was, literally, the best grape juice we've ever had! The chocolate pudding cake a la mode for dessert was almost a let down in comparison to the rest of the meal, but truly, it was also delicious in its own right. As good as the food was (do NOT miss the Duck Pâté, Rustic Tart, or the Lamb Shank. Eat the Cassoulet if you need to feel like you're being enveloped in a warm comforting hug by your French Provençal ancestors...I'm not even French and I could feel it!), the service was even more top notch. From pulling out our chairs when we were seated, napkin service, never leaving our water glasses unfilled, presenting our drinks and dishes with the utmost pride and care, to just the right amount of attention to our table, it's extremely hard to say the last time we had such wonderful treatment by a restaurant's staff. It may honestly be the best service we've ever had and we made sure to tip accordingly. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation for your next special date night, anniversary, or birthday. You'll be in for a treat!
A wonderfully memorable meal! So many good things to say about this place. I will start first with the drinks. The bartender was not only very personable She helped my wife and I pick out the perfect wine and cocktail. The server pointed us to escargot and duck pate for appetizer then the 3 course meal which included was a duck lasagna. Everything came out at just the right time and tasted wonderful! The view was spectacular! We even got to watch the fog roll in. When we left we were greeted by at nicest cat who required belly rubs before we left. All in all a magical evening!
I was surprised to find a restaurant in California where I wanted to try VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING from the menu! I ended up trying out Oysters, Snails, Rabbit, Latte and Dessert, and even got myself a Filet Mignon to go! Freshly cooked bread is getting a special reward! The owners are doing a really good job. All the food that I ordered was so delicious that I cannot wait to come back.
Amazing service. Superb view. Delicious food. You couldn't ask for anything more. My husband and I celebrated valentines day here and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish.
Ledford House in Albion River Well what a nice surprise it is tonight. Specialty aperitif upfront is a Gingerbread Martini (Christmas in a glass.) Food selection is amazing - escargot and baked oysters for my appetizer. Torn between the duck breast and the filet mignon I decided on the filet because of pairing with a 2020 Husch Cabernet Sauvignon. Absolute attention to detail. Omg, I’m in filet mignon heaven! They aim to impress and come through in every aspect. This is a true multi star experience. Now for the par excellence - pictures will only do a part of the story as the flavors will define it all - my dessert order was taken by the owner, just wow! I’ve found my new favorite culinary heaven spot! Dessert needs completely satisfied with the owner offering me a paired port to my choice of chocolate pot d crème. Outstanding! Considering where Michelin has awarded stars, this restaurant more than deserves a star - more than any other I know in this area.
I first dined here in 2016, and I've done so dozens and dozens of times since. Every dish and cocktail I've tried has been divine. And although I'm not a meatarian, my various dining companions who are have always been delighted with their selections as well. The cuisine and bar mixes consistently look as wonderful as they taste. Owners Tony and Lisa (also chef) are warm, welcoming, and attentive. Servers are the same. Add in the sprawling ocean vista from the bar and back patio, and the whole package is 10/10. Do not miss the opportunity to experience this when at the Mendocino coast.

Ordered steak au poivre and it didn’t disappoint. The outside of the steak (filet mignon) was crispy and meat was tender and flavorful, thanks to the excellent pepper sauce. Nice facility and location. Highly recommended.

We have been here a few times now and I really enjoy it. It is a little over 10 minute drive from the town of Mendocino. The bistro special is a really good deal. The menu changes daily and is $35 for a 3 course meal. Tony the owner/maître d' is so kind and welcoming. We've celebrated birthdays here and it's always acknowledged. The homemade bread they give you is amazing. The duck pate is delicious. I enjoy a lot of the sauces for the dishes like the steak au poivre. The view is spectacular. It actually reminds me of the view at the restaurant at The Harbor House Inn. They are also dog friendly on the heated patio.
I would seriously give this place 100 stars if I could. This is what the restaurant is supposed to be- absolutely perfect. The menu is not large, but the food is amazing no matter what you order, the wine list is full of local options, the service is great. Honestly, this is my favorite restaurant is the US and I can’t recommend it enough. Cheers to the owner and the wonderful staff! We can’t wait to be back.

Beautiful views - really can’t be beat! Service was very good too. I personally thought the food was good but nothing extraordinary. I got the market fish (salmon) which was cooked well but I found the flavor a tad lacking. We also got the brownie and ice cream for dessert which is usually my favorite, but for some reason I really didn’t like this one. Overall pretty expensive, but I think you’re paying for the views!

Disappointing Service Experience at an Otherwise Beautiful Location We visited Ledford House for dinner last night. The setting is undeniably lovely — ocean views, a charming flower garden, and a tranquil atmosphere. We arrived at 6:50 for a 7:00 PM reservation and were told our table would be ready right on time, even though we noticed several empty tables. Not a problem — we enjoyed a short walk in the garden and took some photos. We requested sparkling water, but still water was brought instead. To their credit, the front man noticed and quickly replaced it. Soon after, we were served bread, olives, and butter. I noticed that my fork was visibly dirty. When I pointed it out, the server wordlessly replaced it with a fork from a nearby table — no apology, no acknowledgment, which felt off for a place of this level. For appetizers, I had the corn chowder, which was delicious. My husband ordered oysters — unfortunately, three of them were not properly detached from the shell, and each of them had shell fragments. Properly shucked oysters should be clean and effortless to enjoy. This lack of care in preparation is surprising at this price point, though the oysters themselves were fresh and flavorful. Things went downhill with the main course. I ordered the eggplant Wellington — the dish was enjoyable, but the garnishes (potatoes and broccolini) were served cold, and the bell pepper sauce lacked seasoning. A more refined plate would have arrived hot and well-balanced in flavor. My husband's steak, however, was the real issue. One side was severely overcooked and charred, while the other side lacked any sear at all — clearly, the chef had overcooked one side and avoided flipping it to maintain the internal temperature. Still, one-third of the steak was well done — and they served it anyway. In a fine dining restaurant, such a steak should never leave the kitchen. Quality control from the chef or expeditor should have caught this. My husband took one bite and left the steak on the edge of the table, cut side up — a universal sign something’s wrong. Yet, no one approached us for quite a while. The server, however, looked right at it, made eye contact with me, but did not come over. In professional service, servers are expected to check back within 3–5 minutes of delivering entrées to ensure everything is satisfactory — especially if there’s a clear visual cue that something is wrong. Eventually, I had to wave to get his attention. When my husband explained the issue, the server responded: "What do you want me to do?" That’s not an acceptable response in any restaurant, let alone a fine dining establishment. Staff should be trained to offer a solution — replace the dish, offer an alternative, or involve a manager — without placing the burden on the guest to propose a remedy. The situation escalated when the server took the plate and instead of going directly to the kitchen, he stopped at another table to chat. At that point, my husband chose to cancel the replacement, since I had nearly finished my meal. The server then commented: “Don’t worry, it didn’t ruin my day.” — an oddly self-centered and unprofessional remark. We ordered dessert and coffee to close the evening. Dessert was delightful, but the coffee arrived without a spoon, was not hot enough and tasted mediocre at best. Throughout the experience, the front man — who was stationed directly across from our table — never once checked in, noticed the returned plate, or addressed us. In fine dining, floor staff are expected to remain attentive and proactive, especially when things clearly go awry. In summary, while the setting remains beautiful, the level of service has dropped noticeably. A restaurant cannot rely on ambience alone — attention to detail, professionalism, and thoughtful service are the pillars of fine dining. Sadly, none of these were upheld during our visit. It was deeply disappointing.

Really disappointed about this time at Ledford House. Was once one of our favorite places, it is really hit or miss. This night was a BIG miss. We've been here 4 times and the first two were remarkable. We went for a special occasion last Saturday and got the Bistro Special which was a ground beef wellington. It was served lukewarm with the same tomato soup bisque as a sauce that was the tomato soup of the day. Too salty, and just a poor execution of concept. The salad served was insulting: there was no dressing, the cucumbers were messily chopped and not peeled, with giant unevenly chopped purple onion, and instead of putting an edible flower on both salads, only one had a nasturtium and the other had an inedible mini rose bud that was intended for the chocolate pot creme. The host poured water all over the table and the waitress was disoriented. This was definitely an off-night for the restaurant, but our experience was so poor that we will not be returning. Beautiful view
Beautiful scenery and a well kept dining area but the food and service were lacking. I ordered the 3 course special and my main course (salmon lasagna) came out just above room temperature. I sent it back and they brought me another piece that wasn't any better. The maitre d asked how the food was so I told him it was cold and wet. He said something along the lines of "well that's what it is". They didn't bother to remove it from the bill and instead comped a creme brulee. Me and my wife thought this would be a nice fancy dinner to top off our honeymoon but we were sadly disappointed.
