Good stuff!! I love having a neighborhood spot I can walk to that has great quality, big portions, and fresh, tasty food. Well worth it! The fish and shrimp were perfectly cooked. The carne asada and barbacoa disappeared in seconds! The chicken and veggie were delicious as well. To top it off, they are friendly and informative and put together some mean tacos. We will definitely be back again.
large covered outdoor space, and spacious indoor dining room. Good variety of Hong Kong style cafe food choices: large portions, easy family sharing and great reasonable prices. Lunch menu discount till late afternoon. Good neighborhood choice. Warning: tight parking spots.
I like to go to Hong Kong-style restaurants. There are many styles, suitable for both adults and children. I like to take my children there. Rice rolls, porridge, fried beef river, and western steak are all good. I like it very much. I must eat it every time I go The taste is right, the environment is okay.
Sunday Bistro is a solid go-to spot when you’re craving Cantonese comfort food. Nothing fancy or trendy here, just consistently good food with generous portions at reasonable prices. Everything we ordered came out hot and satisfying. The red wine braised beef short ribs were tender and flavorful, the crispy pork knuckle was huge and perfect for sharing, and the beef chow fun had real wok hei. The eggplant with beef short ribs was especially good over rice. They’re open from morning until late, which makes it an easy choice whether you’re stopping by for a quick meal or eating with friends. Free rice and drink refills for dine-in are a nice bonus. The place is pretty old-school and can get busy during peak hours, but you always leave full and happy Definitely a reliable neighborhood spots I keep coming back to.
IG: socalhkfoodies Being a Hongkonger in SoCal, family dinners always mean cha chaan teng vibes 😍 Sunday Bistro started us off with their classic complimentary East-meets-West soup — 羅宋湯 (borscht). We had to order our favorites: sizzling steak and baked pork chop spaghetti. For around $15, the portions are huge — perfect to take home for the next meal. Another must-have is the eggplant clay pot with beef short ribs (牛仔骨) — served piping hot with rice, full of authentic Hong Kong flavor. It was also our first time ordering the crispy fried vermicelli, and it was surprisingly good — crispy on the outside with soft noodles inside 😋
Sunday Bistro in Alhambra is a HK style restaurant that delivers on both flavor and service. My recent dining experience was fantastic, starting with the warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was also very delicious! The Pineapple Bun was a perfect balance of sweet and savory, with a soft, fluffy texture. My favorite was the Baked Fillet with Spinach in Cream Cheese Sauce, rich and creamy without being too heavy. The fish was also cooked perfectly and super tender. For a comforting and flavorful dish, the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce in Hot Pot is a must get. The grilled items were cooked to perfection. The Grilled Pork Chop and Chicken Steak were both juicy and tender. The HK Style Sweet & Sour Pork was a great example of a classic done right, with a tangy and sweet sauce that coated the crispy pork perfectly. The Braised Tofu in Brown Sauce was simple yet delicious, the tofu incredibly soft on the inside with a delicious sauce. The Beef Chow Fun and Beef Hot Pot were hearty and flavorful. The service was prompt and friendly, making the entire meal a pleasant and relaxed experience. The staff was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Sunday Bistro offers a wonderful culinary journey with its wide variety of dishes and exceptional quality. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a great meal in the area.
This place serves very classic Cantonese and Hong Kong–style dishes. Every dish we tried was excellent, and you can pretty much order anything without going wrong. Simple, authentic, and delicious!
This Cantonese restaurant is truly a hidden gem! It’s been around for 17 years, and the quality has stayed consistently impressive. Every dish we tried was authentic, classic, and full of real Cantonese flavor. From the roast meats to the soups, stir-fries, and appetizers, everything was well-seasoned and cooked just right. Portions are generous, dishes come out quickly, and the staff is friendly. It’s rare to find a Cantonese spot in LA that has been running this long and still keeps the flavors so true to home. If you’re looking for authentic Cantonese cuisine, this place will not disappoint. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Every Sunday got to hit up Sunday bistro! The OG Alhambra hk cafe spot, their price is fair and the food is great! The must order for the morning is their Chong fun and for afternoon and on is their clay pot rice! I always get their sausage and preserved meat! Also for drink the OG lemon iced tea is the best!
Had dinner at Sunday Bistro in Alhambra and really enjoyed this Hong Kong–style café!Portions are huge and they offer free rice and drink refills, which makes it great for family meals. We loved the crispy, buttery pineapple bun, the black-pepper beef short rib with eggplant hot pot that was super fragrant and perfect over rice, definitely recommend it
Sunday Bistro really hits that comforting Hong Kong–style café vibe. The menu is huge with both Chinese classics and Western HK café dishes, so there’s something for everyone. We tried quite a few plates: the sweet and sour pork was crispy with just the right tang, the beef chow fun had that nice wok hei flavor, and the baked spinach with cheese was super comforting. The claypot dishes were hearty, and of course the pineapple bun with butter was a must-order — warm, fluffy, and nostalgic. Portions are generous, so it’s great for sharing family-style. Service is straightforward and food comes out quickly, which matches the casual, bustling tea café atmosphere. Prices are reasonable considering the variety and portion size.
Authentic hk style food. Main dishes ares served with soup. Tasty! Will def come back
The food at Sunday Bistro is superb. I would definitely recommend it to any group of family or friends who are looking for good food, whether during the day or closer to midnight, they are always giving out good food. Never of low quality and always cooked the best they can. They also offer take out which is the same quality and also just as cheap. Each person averages roughly $10 and you will normally still have leftovers. The service is also great. The staff are always looking around. If you need anything, just put your hand up and they will cone to serve you. Not only that but the restaurant is good for children and is wheelchair accessible. With plenty if parking outside, you will be able to get in quickly as well. This place is good for large groups as they have many seats for customers of large and small groups. 5 stars.

Outdoor seating in a covered patio area in front of the restaurant. Standard Cantonese cuisine, definitely recommend the clay pot rice.
I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service truly stood out. The waitstaff were incredibly attentive and polite—always checking in on us and offering free refills without us even needing to ask. Their hospitality really made the meal even more enjoyable. My favorite dish was the soup—it was rich, comforting, and full of flavor. The spaghetti was also excellent, with a unique hint of sweetness that made it stand out from the usual. As for the drink, I tried the salted lemon honey water with ice, and I found it surprisingly refreshing. The contrast between the sweet water and the salty-sour lemon was bold and satisfying, especially for someone like me who enjoys salty flavors. Highly recommended for both the quality of the food and the warm, attentive service. I’ll definitely be back!
Love this spot! Sunday Bistro has been around forever and it’s still one of my favorite go-to places in Alhambra for solid Hong Kong–style comfort food. It’s super casual and feels like the neighborhood canteen everyone grew up with. The portions here are HUGE and the prices are really reasonable. I usually get the chicken steak combo — it comes with their hearty borscht soup and a lemon ice tea, and it always hits the spot. The chicken is tender and flavorful every time. My other fave is the baked pasta with chicken steak — so cheesy, saucy, and comforting. Perfect for when you’re craving something cozy and filling. Overall, great value, big portions, friendly staff and consistently tasty food. Definitely recommend if you’re in the mood for HK-style eats in Alhambra!

Sunday Bistro is one of a few restaurants in the area that cater to what seems a culturally popular idea.. a restaurant that offers both western and Chinese fare. The other two in the vicinity are not particularly good, but Sunday Bistro is relatively good. Prices, particularly for the western fare are high. I would stay away from the steak and the pork chop (a lot of fat)... the chicken is much better. The Chinese menu is the better choice in all honesty for a lot of sensible reasons...like the Chinese staff that cooks and runs the place..to the majority of the customers. Prices are reasonable and service is fine. The outside area is inhabited mostly by smokers. This is a large restaurant, food for large families and groups.
Food is great and the price is good. However the staffs just seem like they are miserable all the time. Sometime the wait is also very long. Their lunch hour meals is very good for the price! Overall it’s not a bad place to grab a quick bite to eat here.
The food was reasonably good. I would give it 7.7/10. Average restaurant food is 7/10. We had eaten hear before a few years back and I think the food has improved a bit.
Lot of variety of choice from steak to traditional Cantonese dishes however daytime service is lousy. Night time is different crews service is much better.
The breakfast is very consistent, usually good. The service is as usual average due to how busy the restaurant is. The breakfast menu has both Western and Chinese styles, enough options to choose from. In fact, more choices than most of the cafes around this restaurant.
I got the chicken and steak and they were both delicious and juicy!! The kids meal is also really delicious. I boxed up the leftovers and had it the next day and it was still very good 👍
Enjoyable meal. Friendly staff. Lots of choices. The Beef Curry was delicious. Pork Fried Rice and beef chow mein(soft noodle) were both very tasty and full of flavor.
I gave the bistro a 4-star because of its food, great flavor and nice size servings, not for their service! Don't count on much service. You'll be lucky when they finally show up to take your orders. Make sure you order clearly for they probably won't be back again. They didn't even bring us our water like we requested! But...the food tasted great, just like what I remembered from Hong Kong. We ordered 3 dishes from their lunch menu and paid ~$40, not bad. There is plenty of parking as it is in a large plaza. The bonus is that it is next to Calimart, a very reasonable supermarket.
Because I weigh taste (and value) over service. I'm giving the 4 stars. We were a group of 20 this last time I went. Everybody liked their food. The leftovers were yummy. No one became sick afterwards. Happens you know. We ordered baked fish, different soups, rice/egg noodle dishes, rice dishes, orange chicken, wonton and noodles with beef. But the service. Slow, nonexistent at times. This one lady looked annoyed at getting refills. The bill was incorrect. Food came so late, as we were asking for the check! One dish came twice. Long pauses between each of us getting our food.. Service was better on a previous weekday.
Great place for a Chinese breakfast (congee) and soy sauce chow mein...but this time...scrambled eggs and corned beef, coes with a elbow macaroni soup and toast 5/5...iced coffee 5/5....also ordered the scrambled eggs and panfriend chicken 5/5. ...love watching the going back and forth from kitchen to front of house with takeout orders.. only once have I been served by the robot....humans still work here, even tho they are unsmiling albeit efficient... even the robot has a happy face on its monitor!! But you can always flag down a water for the check fir extra napkins dir containers....they do keep a watchful eye although it may not seem like it. This place has cool lighting fixtures lots of tables and booths and has a quirky nightclub vibe though the lighting is bright. My problem is being seated near the open door with cigarette smoke wafting in. It's hard to enjoy a meal with all that cigarette smoke. To enter the restaurant you have to pass thru a smoking section. It would be so nice not to smell cigarette when entering and exiting. It's actually highly irritating and unpleasant, not to mention unhealthy. A total no smoking ban would be so welcome. But my mom likes eating here. Prices are reasonable. Food is excellent. The cook knows how to make a fluffy scrambled egg. TIP: Hold your breath when you enter or exit...try being seated away from the entrance.
Best meal money could buy! Feels like a Chinese Denny’s - meat is tender and sides are well proportioned. Plenty of choices in their menu, we preferred the grilled items with a either of rice or spaghetti. Our food came in quick.
We just discovered this HK style restaurant today. It has been here for a long time but we just haven’t been here. I guess we missed out a lot of good Cantonese food. We came for breakfast. Their breakfast menu is fantastic. It contains all my favorites including varieties of congee, pineapple buns, soy sauce fried noodle, fried rice noodles with beef, and all the HK style western breakfasts. The way for me to tell whether the restaurant is an authentic Hk style restaurant is to taste their soy sauce fried noodle and fried rice noodle with beef. If they do that well, then I feel the restaurant serves authentic Hong Kong style food. The soy sauce fried noodle we ordered this morning was amazing. The noodles were moist yet crispy with a lot of flavors. This dish tasted very similar to the ones I had in Hong Kong. The congee with a thousand year old egg was good too but a bit thick for me. Some people like it that way. The BBQ pork steam noodle was one of the best I had for a long time. Unlike other restaurant, the noodle here is very fine and soft with generous portions of BBQ pork. The western breakfast was very good too. My wife had their pan fried chicken steak with egg. The chicken was cooked perfectly resulting in a chicken steak with crispy skin and very tender and juicy meat. I was also surprised to find on the menu that they offer clay pot rice and Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich for breakfast. Will come back to try these items next time. This place tends to get packed in the morning for patio dining but the wait is not too long as the foods come out fairly quickly.
Quality definitely went downhill. Average food with no thrill pricing ( the norm).
Nice Asian style Cafe, it's not open as late as other cafes but it's tasty. Would need to try more foods before making a really accurate assessment. If it was open later it'll be doable.
Great place when it comes to Hong Kong style cafes/diners. What stands out here is the great price. Flavors are good and the interior is normal. Nothing superb, just good and casual/easy.

Not very impressed compared after moved to this location. Come here couples time with my friend for lunch, and I dislike their outside area because it isn't very clean based on floor and air isn't good for our health. Services is okay but sometimes is a little bit slow if customers eat outside. However, food is only average because sometimes is not fresh but the portion is very big. Overall, I recommend people sit inside then it has better service and air, and I hope they can do better in the future.
Food is still decent, but service is not good. Seems like they are very short staffed. Makes you feel like if you can catch the waiter once, you better tell them everything all at once because you will never see them again. You also have to tell them the same thing repeatedly because keep forgetting.
Lots of space. Don't feel cramped at all. Service was okay. Portions of food were larger than expected. Seasoning was bland though. They need more flavor in their food. Price is typical cafe pricing. I would go again, not by choice though. Definitely not the best and not the worst cafe on Valley.
Food is great but the seating is dirty, outside patio filled with smoking 🚬 and staff is overwhelmed and needs additional help.
Sunday Bistro (SB) has been around for years and I have only been to their old Monterey Park location on Atlantic Blvd. many years ago. This SB is located in a strip mall on Valley and Almansor Street in Alhambra. It's on the far left edge of the same strip mall as Top Island Seafood Restaurant. It has been there for a long time and we always go to this strip mall but we just have not tried it. My mom and I walked through the outdoor patio to the front entrance, some people were smoking there and it smelled so bad. We saw some people were waiting but we didn't wait too long because they had some tables available for a party of two. Our table was close to the entrance and the door was wide open so we asked the server to close the door because we could smell the cigarette smoke from outside. It was very spacious inside with a welcoming atmosphere. I was surprised that they had pan-fried Vermicelli with Assorted Mushrooms on the menu because many HK cuisines don't have it. So I ordered this pan-fried vermicelli with assorted mushrooms ($15.95) and spaghetti Bolognese ($13.50). We were disappointed by the pan-fried vermicelli with assorted mushroom dish. The vermicelli was crunchy but it was way too hard and it was not flavorful and bland. They also did not give us enough assorted mushrooms. We have had pan-fried vermicelli at some Chinese restaurants before and it tasted so good. Spaghetti Bolognese was not bad with enough meat sauce and it was topped with melted cheese and served over al dente pasta. The reason that I gave them 3 stars is that my mom and I were disappointed by the pan-fried vermicelli with assorted mushrooms and the cigarette smoke from their outdoor patio.

Went there to pick up my order and it was not the best experience. Lady was rude and waited a long time. People smoking outside the patio and the smoke was blowing into the restaurant. Food was also lousy. Greasy and no taste. Price was pretty expensive compared to other better places. Best to stay away.
They had people smoking right at the tables in the restaurant next to people eating and drinking. They also do not allow pets in the patio area.
-Outside area was for smoking which took me by surprise because its pretty rare in the states. - Inside dining was dimly lit, not the best vibe for dining. - Owners need to hire more people, extremely understaffed, only 3 workers for 15+ tables when we arrived. It took almost 10 minutes for us to order. It was difficult to ask for utensils and condiments since the servers ignored us. The table next to us had the same problem as well, taking a long time to get an order down. - Everything had a layer of oil/grease, the lemon tea I ordered had a layer of white-ish film over it. The bowls, plates, and reusable utensils felt sticky, the condiments container was very sticky and felt like it was left out for a long time. - Ordered the gingko porridge and beef rice noodle rolls combo along with a beef wonton soup. The porridge was ok, but again there was a layer of oil on the surface. Beef wonton soup was very salty and the wontons had a weird sand texture to it. We ended up getting the noodle rolls in a to-go container. Lady behind us noticed and said we were lucky since her order of toast and ham were half burnt. - Ended on a bad note when we had to go up to the front desk to get the check because they ignored us the first two times. - Had a good time talking to the other tables next to us though
Often smells with second hand smoke caz the entrance fills with smokers. I am surprise the health department hasn't shut this place down while most of the restaurants here prohibit smoking within certain parameter. While the food is ok, their pricing are a bit above average. Service is often lacking. Its really not a place for family dining especially if you have little one. But you are smoker that like to sit and stare at blank, this place is perfect for you.
I ordered food through their phone number to avoid paying more service on doordash(cuz im running low and its a short drive) but they ended up making me pay doordash services when i didnt order thru doordash. The lady on the phone couldnt even speak or understand english and had to call another employee over. And even more i ordered garlic bread and their bread had mold grown on it. So they made me pay for services i didnt ask and gave me old moldy food. Never coming back.
OMG, the Sunday Cafe as I know it has gone back for decades. Now I think it just hit a new low. Asian place do not expect service, but when there's lagging or no service at all, that's an issue. We have to go get the waiter to come. Food took a very long time to come out, the beverages came even longer. The food flavor is day by day. No consistency. Salty one day, next day can be blend or too oily. Even paying the bills will take a long time for the server to come by.
