We hired a room for an event which included an outside area. Everything we needed was catered for, and use of the small outside area really made a difference as it was a sunny day. The room itself had plenty of seating and had a lovely atmosphere. On a cold day, there is a firepit with ample seating in the courtyard. A very special place indeed, either for a romantic, luxury get away or a celebration with friends and family. Thank you.
Very cosy, well decorated spot. We went for Sunday dinner (did not stay there) and the food was great with big portions.
Beautiful setting, clean, comfortable and lovely room. We enjoyed the restaurant, too! Lyn greeted us when we arrived and made a point to check in and make sure we were enjoying ourselves whenever we saw her. She was delightful and really made us feel welcomed!!
We sat outside in the grounds and ate a marvellous meal. We didn't stay, but the accommodation with it's outside lounge around a wood fire looked fantastic, with seats carved from tree trunks with sheep skins and blankets.
A great place for fantastic food and the setting is beautiful. Staff are very friendly and professional. The quality of the fixtures and fitting is very premium but at an affordable price. Would 100% return and will do. Well done everyone at the JR
Stayed for one night with family and what a lovely quiet location. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant and everyone was pleased with the quality of the food. Staff were very friendly If we are ever in the area again we would definitely be staying here.
Had a lovely lunch for my dad’s 50th birthday. All the staff were so helpful and accommodating, offering to help with a cake and giving us extra time. Beautiful food and lovely location! What is not to like.
Went for lunch today (Fri 13 Jun 25).Perfect day so sat in the garden. Great service, good array of choices both food and drink. Awesome food and to top it all very reasonably priced. It’s a bit out of the way but certainly worth the visit.
Rather expensive, but worth it, and a lovely meal, with quality food and wonderful service and attention to detail. Definitely worth a visit
What a hidden gem! Stunning location, delicious high-quality food, lovely interior design and welcoming staff. Can't wait to return
We had such a wonderful stay at the Jack Russell!!!! There were 6 of us who stayed over. My husband and I had the beautiful Dotti room. The countryside around the Jack Russell is beautiful! The grounds amazing!! We enjoyed the pub and had drinks out on the lawn. They are beautiful fire pits and our whole day was just amazing! We had a beautiful dinner in the restaurant along with a wonderful breakfast in the morning. I cannot say enough about this place! Thank you for making our stay so wonderful!
Excellent spot for food, real ale and an excellent wine menu
Superb, comfortable, cosy interior with a focus on man’s best friend …. doggies 🩷 Impeccable service and probably the best Sunday roast lunch I have eaten in a pub. The Pork Belly roast was exceptional! Great job team and my compliments to the chef(s)
We came for a delicious lunch yesterday with our dog, Margot. There was a slight issue with one of our guests and I must congratulate your staff members for dealing with the incident with grace, tact, sensitivity and calmness avoiding an escalation in the situation or any embarrassment. They were SO professional - full marks all round and please thank them personally We will absolutely be returning to this magical place
Wonderful country pub cuisine. Lots of game and excellent dishes. It was a birthday celebration, the staff were excellent . It's out of town in middle of a contry estate. Not cheap but worth it . Did not stay in rooms
Absolute gem. Beautiful surroundings and the staff are always pleasant and helpful. This is our 3rd time we have stayed. The Great Dane is a wonderful and luxurious room. Look forward to seeing you again next year
I have eaten here several times and so far it had never dissapointed me, but today was exceptional We had the marmite butter maltloaf starter followed but chateaubriand which were both 10/10 I have been searching far and wide for years for a good banoffe dessert and my godness did the banoffee cheesecake deliver, maybe the best ive ever had. Thanks for a great nye dinner see you in 2026 ps dont get that cheesecake of the menu unreal!!!!!
Had a lovely weekend . Great rooms..would of liked a bit more light but otherwise room very comfortable. Loved the outside sitting area. Pub -excellent food & service.
One of the loveliest pubs I've ever been too. Wonderful rural location, beautiful ambience, amazing delicious food and incredibly friendly and professional service. We were a party of 4 ladies and all said we'd move to the area just to be near this place!
Just had dinner here. Had the Valentines set menu, plus a couple of snacks while waiting. Excellent food and service. A breth of fresh air gives the multiple disappointments eating locally.
Wonderful Sunday lunch! Attentive staff, great food & cosy atmosphere. 100% dog friendly which was also a lovely bonus!
Excellent venue, great rooms and the dog friendly theme most welcome. Really exciting menu - hard to choose between several very tempting dishes!
Wonderful place to eat and drink. Beautiful and well looked after. Enjoyed our meal, our one night stay and breakfast in the morning. Loud Commercial Radio playing during breakfast could have been replaced with nice mellow music. Food and staff were fantastic. Thank you and have been back already for drinks, and will be back again.
Exceptional food & drink. Wonderful service & beautiful setting inside & out. Didn’t stay in the hotel, maybe next time!
Lovely country pub with great food. Dog friendly throughout the pub which is great, if you've been out walking in the area. Good atmosphere and great service from staff. Good selection on the menu. Would definitely recommend coming here. I love local, never stayed in room so I can't comment on them.
Went for a lovely birthday meal here on a Wednesday night after discovering the pub from going on a country walk. Initially went for a drink- sat in the pub area which was lovely, didn’t realise there was a restaurant area at the back. All looks amazing, what a feel. Such lovely decor, pub and restaurant side. Food was lovely, came out in a really timely way. Nice portion size and tasty food. Husband loved his burger, fish and chips was great, batter delicious (usually put the batter to one side), this time ate the whole thing! Fish was haddock. Dessert was a lovely rich dark chocolate brownie- very rich and decadent. Lovely presentation of all meals. Would return here definitely, and recommended for a meal- either in the pub section or restaurant. Prices reasonable- would like a chicken main dish on the menu though- just my opinion. Server was really lovely and friendly.
Excellent service 👍 Great Atmosphere 👍 Good experience 👍 I visited the jack Russell today with my daughter and we enjoyed a very good Sunday roast We enjoyed roast beef and roast lamb and amazing cauliflower Cheese. 8.5 out of 10 Which is very good for me 😁
Probably the very best Fish & Chips I’ve ever eaten. I can’t describe how fabulous they tasted. I’ve never given 5*’s but this place deserves 6*. But you have to try it yourself.. forget what I say.
Firstly, the food and service were great at the Jack Russell pub. Friendly staff and delicious mains and desserts. Secondly, the surroundings are lovely - perfect for a long walk to build up an appetite. My friends had their dog so it was ideal. It's a beautiful pub, in a gorgeous countryside location. It's well kept and very clean. I want to say a huge thank you to Stephane for finding my bracelet and keeping it safe until I could return. I honestly thought I'd lost it during the long walk in the fields and never thought I'd see it again.
A lovely country Gastro Pub and Boutique hotel with 11 rooms. It is a bit out of the way but worth it. The food is excellent the staff are extremely helpful. I would say for a table it’s best to book, in the summer there is lots of outside seating. Highly recommended.
The most magical place for our wedding! We hired the entire venue and rooms for two nights and everything was perfect. The food was incredible, rooms are amazing and the staff were great throughout the prep stage and on the day. Everything went without a hitch. We highly recommend!! We are also frequent visitors of the pub for beers and food - the Ramsbury Gold is a cracking pint and the food is always 👌
The pub is situated in a gorgeous area, with a little pond in the front, the place is so nice and quiet...Amazing! The food was absolutely delicious, the service 10***** plus. Thank you very much!
We had a wonderful stay at The Jack Russell Inn! Our room was beautifully designed—elegant, comfortable, and full of charm. The food was absolutely delicious, with every meal prepared to perfection using fresh, local ingredients. What truly made our stay special was the amazing service. The staff were incredibly hardworking, attentive, and genuinely warm, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. A truly memorable experience—highly recommended!
Came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The rooms are top notch with friendly staff and amazing food. We have come to stay to attend Highclere castle. Such a lovely atmosphere. The food is delicious and are so impressed.
Superb - fantastic place for a weekend break, especially if you have dogs. Stephane and his team are wonderful, location is beautiful and rooms are fantastic - would rate higher if possible
It’s been a little while since our last visit, and eight of lunch. Couldn’t have been better really, food was all lovely, gnocchi particularly good and cauliflower popcorn was excellent. Most impressive were the staff, professional without being stuffy, warm without being over the top - just really really lovely. Thank you.
We had a superb lunch at the Jack Russell yesterday. From the service through to the food to the wonderful location I highly recommend it. We will be back for sure
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and so many dogs! A really lovely little country pub, but very busy because it's so nice so advised to book ahead. Also, there's a little duck pond out the front so you can go see the ducks.
Location = second to none Hospitality = kind and professional. Mistakes were made but very minor. Food = stole the show, chef knows his shit. Keep it going lad/lady *Steak was the best iv ever had, not only cooked to perfection but finally quality meat that deserves the price *Sunday roast best ever had
Had a very good Sunday dinner. Puddings were outstanding. Lovely scenic location but really out in the countryside along narrow lanes,
Loved it. Stayed one night with our dog. Beautiful location. Clean and nice. So dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant. Food was excellent. Highly recommended!
Beautiful pub, stunning location. Unfortunately only ladies loo that was available was soiled and my friend had to clean it before could be used and coffee was barely warm although when we came back later after our walk we asked for it to be hotter and it was perfect.
We didn’t stay at the hotel. We dined at the pub. Very tasty food from local fresh produce. Dog and family friendly. Great service. Not cheap.
In general the food was good, but on the expensive side. Service was perfect. Tough place to get to but beautiful setting.
Set is stunning Hampshire countryside, this gem of a hotel offers everything for a relaxed stay with excellent food, fabulous well equipped rooms full of charm and outstanding proffesional staff in every department. Lost one star as room could really use a small fridge and some better lighting (Greayhound room). Otherwise, wonderful stay. Thanks team Jack Russell.
Lovely location, great atmosphere. Lovely dog area outside but inside. Fabulous walks near by. Food was good quality, a little underwhelming on flavours in my opinion, I was expecting lots of flavour bursts but didn't experience that unfortunately.
Very Nice pub with a good selection of Beers. It's in a lovely setting with a pond nearby. Can't comment on the Food as we didn't eat. Menu was abit on the pricey side, but it's kind of in the middle of nowhere so it's to be expected. I must say it looked very nice and I'd imagine the food is great. Nice place and I'll be returning.
Great location with enthusiastic and attentive staff. Dinner menu is a little tired and features a couple of bonkers dishes ( escalope of chicken with hard boiled egg an a deconstructed Ceasar salad!?) The rooms are a good size but not as clean as they could be and the communal fire seating area needs a bit af a 'deep clean'. This is a popular pub/restaurant with rooms, where dogs are more than welcome. The dinner menu is too disjointed and the rooms could do with updating.. Lovely staff make up for the failings, but could be even better with a little bit of a refresh.
Didn't stay but came here for dinner for a birthday meal with friends. Food was lovely but service was really slow and poor. Waited so long for food and drink and it really tainted a special day. Really disappointed as had been before and had a great experience so came back for a special occasion with my parents and was really really disappointed. Wouldn't return again based on that.
Overall, it was ok. The estate and grounds are fantastic, the wildlife we saw on the long drive up to the pub was incredible. The pub decor was lovely, the service was hit and miss depending on who spoke, the young lads seemed really indifferent and not very engaging but the older lady and gentleman were great and full of personality. The food was pretty average for the cost, we had the burger and a scampi dish, and we found them to be quite bland and underwhelming for about £20 a plate, but I found the malt loaf bread absolutely delicious, and my wife swore by the marmite butter. Overall, it was nice and I'm glad we finally made our way out to try it, but I don't think we'll go again. At approximately £85 for the 3 of us to have a bread starter, main each, and one drink each, for quite average pub grub, it's a once and done for us.
We had pre booked a table but there was quite wait to be seated. We were squashed into a fairly small table, the service was quite slow. The food quality isn't great - especially for the price, some meals were cold. The staff were polite & friendly enough, luckily the good company and family catch up time made up for the pub being a slight let down. It's just not worth the price.
I went to here with a friend last weekend for a Sunday roast, I’m a vegetarian and tend to hope that my food will be equally as portioned as someone who’s a meat eater like my friend, the veggie option was about 4 maple glazed parsnips, I just feel as though that’s not a very significant main part of the meal, when I’ve gone for veggie roasts elsewhere there’s usually some sort of nut roast or mushroom Wellington, so that was disappointing, as a vegetarian I wouldn’t recommend going for a Sunday lunch. Having said that the service was excellent
Honestly so disappointed. BBQ next to back door and sat in other side of restaurant and l and family left smelling of smoke. My steak was full of of gristle, the espresso was the most revolting bitter coffee I have ever had. Venue and support staff was really wonderful and having eaten here over the last 40 years this was such a sad meal. There where more issues and I hope it gets fixed as this place should be packed on a beautiful day like today.
Room booked for two months the guy that took the book and took them on completely the wrong date which we then found out two months ago. Change the bookings then to find out that the email confirmation he take my email address down wrong and only booked one of the rooms out the two that I asked for this is a complete lack of awareness incredibly bad service and now we’ve got a week to find somewhere else on one of the busiest weekends of the year complete shambles
