Some places you just know are going to have good food the second you step foot in the door. As a fan of sandwhiches, I felt that the minute I stepped inside and was reassured that when told the selection of cheeses to pick from. My samdwhich was great. Super nice staff and good prices as well. I was only passing through on a road trip but I definitely will be back on the way back down.
Delicious sandwiches with a lot of variety and a friendly, helpful staff. I wish we lived nearby so we could enjoy it more often.
It's probably one of the best sandwich places in the world. Absolutely monstrous in size, very delicious, and made just the way you want it. I would eat here every day if I could.
This place came recommended by an old friend and it lived up to the hype. Sweet as old gas station converted to a sandwich shop. I dig it! Great sandwich that was too much for me to eat. Will definitely go again.
I ordered from this restaurant twice while visiting Arcata recently. I only intended on visiting once, but returned again because my first sandwich was so good. The folks working there were both professional and friendly. I hope to eat here again when I'm the area next. I'm baffled as to why some folks don't like this place. No gloves? Who cares. I saw the workers washing their hands multiple times. Would you rather they create pounds of non-biodegradable plastic glove waste every day? Too pricy? Then go to Subway down the road or make your own sandwich.
The muffuletta really was a “great sandwich”, the shop holds up its name. Second best sandwich I’ve ever had. I ate it in a grove at Ave of the Giants so maybe there was some magic in that but tbh I was shocked at just how fantastic the sandwich tasted!! It’ll be living rent free in my mind.
Back in college this was my favorite place to get a sandwich. The avocado and cheese on a brio roll would easily make two meals for me. I always stop in for one when I happen to make it back to Humboldt. When I’m not in Humboldt I sadly just dream about having a good sandwich since I’ve yet to find one anywhere in Colorado Springs. It might be time for another trip there soon.
I would give you guys full five stars across the board if I hadn't had someone who made my sandwich without gloves, touched every part of it with her hands. And then I ate it later and got sick. The sandwich tasted amazing, and usually you're one of the best places in town. But this blonde girl who got a phone call and was rushing didn't put gloves on and this isn't a heated sandwich, so you are required to wear gloves when you're making and touching someone's food. I love the selection, I love the food. Just please in the future Make sure your people wear gloves, because I ended up sick for days. I'm still not feeling great. Outside of that you guys are amazing.
Love these sandwiches. Just wish there was an easy way to tip the servers electronically when paying with a card. They work hard, are consistently friendly, and deserve every opportunity to make a tip. I’ll deliberately bring some cash next time to throw in the tip jar.
Picked up sandwiches for my girlfriend and I and both were super good. The service was great, but I’d recommend going when you’re not in a rush. Everything is made to order and it’s a popular spot so it can take a little bit to get your order in.
Amazing subs!/sandwich! Cold (or hot). Business running since the 1980’s! A real gem.
These sandwiches are just delicious, servings are generous, choices provided fit just about any preferred bite, and a fair price for what you get. Their standard sandwich covers my lunch for 2 days, easy!
Ordered a tuna sandwich. They have crab sandwich specials on fridays. It was quick, tasty. My only complaint was how the cashier was collecting money, picking the bread, making the sandwich without gloves or washing her hands. I mean I didn't die or got sick. I just think it would be nicer if they took better care of my food.
Been coming here for years. Best sandwiches and the best staff. Highly recommended. Don’t miss this Humboldt landmark. I used to be a vegetarian until I came across this amazing-highest quality store.....I must admit that it was worth it but I only do it there. Their crab sandwich on Fridays is out of this galaxy
Hard to believe a sandwich could be so great but it really is. Some fresh local bread makes them that much better. They're consistent. Lots of chip and drink options, even some beers! Outdoor seating but everything is takeout as it's always been.
This place was busy when we arrived but the staff was great and worked through the line well. Our sandwiches were huge and tasted amazing they were so fresh! Great selection of drinks and chips. 10/10 can’t wait to go back!!
We got there right before closing tonight. The employees were gracious enough to still make our sandwiches. We thoroughly enjoyed the sandwiches down on the beach while we watched the sunset. Best meal of our trip so far.
I am in love. They are true sandwich artists here. My favorite is the roast beef, but there is a wide, delicious variety of meats. Go get some!
Hole in the Wall makes subs the exact way I like them. Thinly shredded lettuce and thinly sliced onion and tomato with salt, pepper, oil, and vinegar give such a crunchy, fresh texture and offset the heavier meat and bread to create the ultimate sub. I absolutely ADORE this place and could easily eat there every day for the rest of my life if i could afford it.
Have been going to Hole in the Wall for decades. We live in a different area now but make a point to always grab sandwiches when we're on the coast. Always fresh ingredients, always the best sandwiches! Great employees and service too. Definitely recommend!
The sandwiches were awesome. My mom used to take me after school. Love it!
Omg I seriously don't know how I'm going to be able to survive living in southern California without this place in my life regularly. They have such an amazing selection of meats cheeses and combinations you can have anything. The bread (had mine on a sourdough roll) was so soft and delicious. If you're in the area I totally recommend trying it out. They have tables outside for seating, no bathroom :(, huge selection of drinks and chips as well. You can call in to pick up your order or order there. P.S. I had the hot turkey sandwich on sourdough roll.
I absolutely love taking the meatball sandwich home and popping it in my oven for 10 minutes, cheese gooey goodness!!
One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had!! The only thing I don’t like is the fact I’m too full because I couldn’t stop eating it. Must try!

Incredibly good food. A Humboldt classic. The pastrami Reuben was unbelievably good.
We stopped here on our way to Oregon and it did not disappoint! Instant service, friendly staff, and very high quality ingredients. We ordered their crab sandwich and it was so fresh and filling, they kept us filled all day long! I was super impressed with every aspect of this restaurant. I would definitely recommend if you are craving a sandwich.
A staple of arcata. Been eating at home in the wall since I can remember. Great service, mellow atmosphere, best sandwich in arcata.

Ordered two Cobb sandwiches. Little pricey $11.95 for an 8 inch, very tasty, made to my liking, basic condiments. So the only issue sandwich makers washed hands in front of us, but my concern they were not wearing gloves! Only okay at the moment due to view of handwashing..
Have always loved this place. Sandwich was so delicious. I had a Cordon Blue, with chicken, ham & swiss. My only complaint would be the mayo tasted a little on the warm side. I like my mayo cold. Otherwise perfect.
I’m on a Torta mission! I was turned on to the fact that Hole In The Wall has one on the menu. Today made 31 Tortas from 31 different locations just in Humboldt County. This Torta was very delicious. The cilantro really set it off and the jalapeños were actually spicy! The Brio French roll was a fresh change from the typical Telera roll on most Tortas.
I am sad that I found this right as I am about to move from the area. The sandwiches are huge and the contents are delicious. There are suggested sandwiches and you can build your own. I am happy they have pastrami!

Has been a good sando stop for us. ABSOLUTELY worth the price! Its 2 meals per sando with fresh ingredients for less than $20. Solving the fresh bread challenge for a sando shop would elevate thier craft. Service is fast and responsive.
Sandwich was really good however, I was thrown off by no gloves and the wet rag on the counter that kept wiping off the sandwich station. Coming from a cottage baker myself I know the laws of food handlers and this is how bacteria is created. I wanted a hot sandwich which it was hot but only the meat. I was expecting the entire sandwich. Besides that the sandwich was good. Just wish it was a little more sanitary.
This is a great spot and is easily in my top 3 favorite restaurants in town. The only reason I opt not to give them a full 5 stars is because they don't offer half size sandwiches. I would honestly eat here WAY more often, if I could order half a sandwich. Hole In The Wall, I love you, your team is great, the food is great, the selections is great, the location is great, but please please please consider offering smaller sandwich sizes.

I've had a few different sandwiches here and fail to see the hype. I guess they are larger than average sandwiches however it tastes the same to me as a sandwich from Wildberries or Co-op. On my most recent visit the person making my sandwich was sniffling a lot and looked very pale which was very alarming, I was close to just leaving without a sandwich. Anyways I was not asked if I wanted oil and vinegar, I had to ask for it. Then I received my bag and got no napkins so I had to ask for that too. I would like to clarify that I was given a bag without asking however was not given napkins and not asked.
I haven’t seen any other reviews about this, so it only feels right to speak my truth. Please don’t get the Dutch crunch bread — it was so sad and crumbly. Any of the other bread options must be better than that one.
Decent sandwich but absurdly overpriced. What kind of sandwich shop charges 1.50 extra for cheese? Not to mention no one informs you the cheese is extra, no itemized receipt so they really try to sweep it under the rug like you won’t notice. Only discovered after doing the math on local taxes after racking my brain as to how a 12.75 sandwich comes out to 15.41. For that price I expect a side and a drink to come with it.
to be honest i don't think they are worth the price, they are massive and crazy and pretty good but 20$ is kinda a lot for a sandwich that isnt quite as good as a 10$ boars head sandwich. but if your willing to spend a decent amount on a sandwich its not too bad to check this place out

For the price I expect better. So the food was decent my dad got a roast beef, great. However I order the Rueben, my mistake. The ingredients were good the execution was not. The meat is microwaved and the sauerkraut was placed directly on to unheated bread creating a mushy mess. The gal making it even noticed asking another person and they said “whatever.” My sandwich literally fell apart even when wrapped in paper.

20 mins to make a sandwich is crazy, especially with a long ass line lmao. They growing the avocados back there or just taking a blinker??😂
I get a sandwich from hole in the wall about once a week. This week I ordered a Italian combo on Brio French it ended up being on Dutch crunch I ordered mayo on both sides and got it on only one side and I asked for super light lettuce and lettuce made up 1/3 of the sandwich. SMH I'm done with this place for a while

Their only vegan option is a PB&J, and vegetarian options are just as scarce. The local tofu shop closed down and instead of switching to a new supplier they have instead opted to cut their plant-based menu items almost entirely. I’m rating them 1 star not out of malice but because 1 star ratings are more visible, and I want other folks who might be looking at outdated reviews and menus to know that they are no longer vegan or vegetarian friendly.
Atmosphere and service are OK but I don’t know what happened. I called in a sandwich. I’ve ate here many times. The last few times I have gotten severe stomach issues after eating their sandwiches after calling it in. Maybe I should be there when they’re making their sandwiches. The girl who answered the phone did not seem happy to be working. I get they’re busy. This is my last time going to this business. My stomach is horribly sore. Don’t wanna go in details, but I think I might have food poisoning. This place has definitely gone downhill. I don’t know if it’s the people they’re hiring that are not washing our properly handling the food but this is the second time I’ve had stomach issue so no more.
I ordered a cordon bleu sandwich from here and I was really looking forward to eating it and the chicken was rock hard I have to throw the chicken away and let me tell you that was what I was most excited about. I called them with my feed back and I was told that they will let whom ever know that made the sandwiches and they would let the owner know, there was no option to make it right for my experience. Also my co workers all got sandwiches from there today too and all three of their sandwiches were wrong. Very disappointing, unfortunately I will be ordering my sandwiches from the eureka hole in the wall from now on and it’s definitely worth the drive.
They don’t wear gloves. I went in looking for a nice lunch, and was greeted by a kind woman at the register. She had just finished handling the payment of the customer in front of me. She took my order and rushed to the other end of the counter and proceeded to manhandle the sandwich with her bare hands. I couldn’t help but be grossed out as she proceeded to stuff the bread of the fillings with her greasy, dirt filled nails. I asked if they ever wear gloves, she just said no. I couldn’t help but think, that’s nasty… nasty regardless, but in a pandemic!?!! Even more so! I felt uncomfortable knowing I no longer wanted to eat this, but payed for the sandwich. It was unfortunate because that was super expensive for a sandwich shop to begin with, but especially because I felt that the sandwich wasn’t even sanitary enough to eat. I asked around if anyone wanted it, they didn’t. I threw it away, and will never go there again.
I ordered a club sandwich and since I didn’t want ham and waste it I asked for it to be left off they turned around in arcata and changed me $2 extra for not getting the ham. Then I came back to my clients house to eat and there was not one but two strands of hair in half I was eating. So disappointed spent $19.00 and had to throw it out due to workers hair In my food. The lady who waited on me was rude and gave me the poor excuse that since I didn’t want a ham it was no longer a club. SMH worst yet after that to find hair in my food. I’ll be going to the eureka one from now on.
