Food was very good. I had a Philly steak that was very good. My only gripe is that I had to eat it with a fork because the bread wouldn't support all the meat. I must admit that's a good gripe to have. I ate lunch earlier that day and had hamburger steak and again it was delicious. The staff were very polite and respectful.
We play lots of volleyball in Albuquerque. So coming to Aussies felt like a home away from home. The people are great and the atmosphere is fun!
Good atmosphere with classic Aussie friendliness. Food is good and reasonably priced. Cocktails are good as well. Perfect for a stop during a hot Texas day. The food is hearty enough for winter as well. I stop by every year for lunch during a convention. Great place.
Amazing food and great bartenders. Definitely a good spot to watch volleyball in Austin.
Great atmosphere for sports, great food, lovely women, great memories!!
Great place, especially on Taco Tuesday. Hockey on TV, kid-friendly, vegetarian-friendly. Service can be a tad sporadic based on when volleyball games or other important sporting events on TV end, but the staff are super friendly even when under a heavy load.
So not expecting this. We stopped in quick for a bite before our scheduled event. Thought it wasn’t going to be very good due to the not so great ladies room. Food was excellent in all of our opinions. Staff was great as well. It was pretty busy but service was quick. We had awesome sloppy nachos, BLT, Taco salad, pineapple burger, 2 sodas and 2 Miller lites. Bill total before tip was $57.
Say at the bar, waiting to pick up some friends from an event. Ascertain. , , , , t
Been going to Aussies for over 2 decades. Katie B. Has been our bartender for at least a decade. When wait staff stays put for that long? They are doing it right! We always have excellent service from Katie B. Who doesn’t like watching Volleyball?? We need to keep these good established Austin area businesses going strong!
It’s a sports bar with bar food. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Always fun times and good food when you’ve had a few drinks. Very fast and friendly. Highly recommended and an Austin staple. Try to find a better bar with sand volleyball, quick tasty drinks, and straight fun.
They hosted our 10th Annual Austin Oxford House Volleyball Tournament Fundraiser!!! Thank you
Neighborhood bar feel and always fun to watch the volleyball games. Staff is very accommodating and plenty of TVs for sports
Food was great service was even better cheap drinks will definitely be back
Nice bar with decent selection of beers on tap. It’s not a fancy bar, but it's comfortable because it's not pretending to be anything other than just a bar. Looks small in the front but there is a large dining area in the rear and an even larger beer garden outside. The staff are really friendly and the regular patrons were also nice and welcoming.
Great place to watch games. Bar food is fine. Beer prices are reasonable. Not supposed to smoke on the covered patio area, but if you go all the way up the end, they seem to let you. And one of the semi warm places to do so in the winter. Highly recommended.
I applaud the guys that worked last night! 11/4/23 About 16 of us popped in after our bat tour, unannounced, and they didn’t hesitate to seat us. The food came out quickly and hot and was delicious. They even kept our water glasses full! These guys were amazing and I will definitely spread the word.
It was great. I got there late but Jennifer was quick to bring me two non- alcoholic beers. She is a very good waitress and is very attractive. I hope to see her on Wednesday, January 18. She is a FOX.
An Austin classic! They've held out and kept this restaurant/volleyball mecca together! Decent food and an even better volleyball culture, truly an amazing place! If you're trying to learn how to play volleyball, get into their beginner sixes and have fun! Tournaments on the weekend make it even a better treat!
Well, let me tell you this, my huge family. At least 25 to 30 of us spent my mother's birthday at Aussie's on Easter Sunday. Many of us arrived right when they opened. There were kids and Easter eggs and the kind of eggs that bust open and leave confetti everywhere. We left a huge mess. The waitress was cheerful and cordial throughout. She went and got help when she saw that she needed it. They served us all promptly. Our waitress never lost her smile. I mean what more can I say? I'm kind of thinking it was a good dream but it really happened. My mom was celebrating her 77th birthday and had a blast!!! Thank you so much! Aussies PS. The food was good too.
Super cool sand volleyball bar/restaurant! Surf themed beach bar vibe. Laid back place with great appetizers and good drinks. Especially the fried pickles and loaded cheese fries!!!
Awesome spot. Good fish n chips. Waitress was awesome!
Aussie's is an OG Austin classic w/ good drinks, great food, and beach volleyball courts outside. Never a bad time was had at Aussie's!
Great for Dogs! Cool spot to play volleyball.
Keith at the bar was excellent. Nice spot to pop in and catch a game.
Aussies is a staple here in Austin everyone knows about it and people love coming here, Its great for large parties of people. The volleyball nets are great, and the sand is pretty well kept. You also cant go wrong with their happy hour, during the summer i wish they had more nets because they’re usually occupied by leagues and ex college athletes. Still id recommend this place to anyone who likes open air, cold drinks and sand volleyball.
My lunch here was spectacular. Great burger and cold beer.
Most unique bar/ restaurant in Austin. You can't find a place like this anywhere near DT. It kind of breaks my heart to see any subpar reviews, as the whole team is truly a group of really sweet, genuine people. Definitely have to go get some sand VB in, followed by some Mexican martinis.
I've been going to Assies for years since they opened. It's so relaxing and fun in the winter and summeres are wild and crazy outdoor fun!! I gotta say your day bartender is awesome. Can deliver a Beautiful Cocktail with a fun personality and very informative!! Thanks y'all for all the Good times!!
Haven't stopped by in forever, but this place is still one of my all time faves! I had the famous grilled chicken topped with grilled pineapple and instead of getting a bun I had them wrap it in lettuce with some broccoli sprinkled with parmesan cheese and it was delicious! The bar is my favorite place to sit to watch my fave game and always meet amazing people. It's a must stop if you are a first-timer in Austin.
Wednesday chicken fried steak All day long 9.99 with a salad, amazing food at amazing prices. Arianna was the Server and she is awesome 👍😎! The AC really kicks so it's very cool inside 😁 Plates of food were piping hot 🔥 and seasoned just right 👍 Every day is a different special 4 people can dine here for 60.00 and leave a reasonable tip. Open window airy dining room separate from the bar makes this a reasonable family option in my book 😁📖
Aussie's in Austin, TX, is a well located chill place with a dive bar feel! With its fun, laid-back vibe and ample indoor and outdoor seating, it's the perfect spot to unwind. The boneless wings, especially the buffalo ones, are a solid choice for satisfying your cravings. Plus, the drinks are both delicious and reasonably priced, adding to the overall enjoyment. And let's not forget about the sand volleyball court, adding an extra layer of fun to the experience. Aussie's is definitely a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a good time in Austin!
Stopped in for a quick bite and found a nice friendly bartender and staff. They had good prices. I even found some healthy options that I found tasty! The broiled chicken w/ rice and steamed veggies was great. 10.99 and the seasoning on the veggies made me want more. I'll definitely come again.
Good little bar and grill that has a decent menu variety but could do with greater consistency. I love their fish and chips but after a few dozen times ordering them, they are occasionally super freezer burnt. Otherwise good place, I'll keep coming any time I'm leaving the Long Center for a performance.
We started off poorly. We walked in after ACL, sat ourselves and waited 30 min before I chased down a waiter. He responded with "well we are busier than usual", which was a little standoffish. I did mention the 30 min and that may have changed things. Especially because another customer had the same issue. The only thing I can see is, might be slightly busier than usual but if you do not have a section assigned, you do not know who's recently seated themselves. After that, service was good, he made up for the error and checked on us repeatedly. Food was really good. Tasty burger and pretty good size onion rings. Overall, the experience went better as the night progressed.
Decent bar in the heart of Austin. Inside Bar area is actually small, but the restaurant area is larger, and the volleyball area is actually fairly large and really the focus of the establishment.
A cool environment. A+ on atmosphere with the volleyball games happening, a few TV screens for sports, and a good selection of typical bar food. The tacos were perfectly fine and meets expectations for a place like this. Service was spotty as beers came out with our dinner 20monutes later and the server didn't honor the taco special that was listed on the board. But still, a good overall experience. Solis beer, food and atmosphere
Our Uber driver dropped us off at a "cool Mexican place" to eat. As we pulled up, I was laughing in my head. Aussie's is NOT Mexican food, nor are they trying to be. They are a pretty good Australian themed Americana place to eat with a really cool vibe, though. The staff were really nice and they have volleyball courts as well. We enjoyed watching some two on two volleyball while eating out sandwiches. Cool place to have a little tucker.
great place lots of TVs to watch ur sports program. Also they have a volleyball league play outside in the beach courts. would have be2n cool to watch live beach volleyball while drinking a few and enjoying some snacks!
It’s a cool and fun place to hang out with friends and play volleyball or to just meet for a drink and watch others play volleyball. I ordered a Turkey & Guacamole sandwich with fries, the fries were decent but the quality of the sandwich wasn’t the best and seemed like the quality of meet used wasn’t any better than cold cut meat you can get at Walmart. My only recommendation would be to lower the price point of some of the food given the actual quality of ingredients used. It’s not inedible if you’re really hungry. We had a few bumps In The road with our server getting orders and tickets wrong but he had a great attitude and overall I’d come back. Just make sure you double check food and tickets before eating and lying to make sure everything is correct! Enjoy and have a great time cause that’s what it’s all about right??
Nice place. Staff friendly. Service is good. Food is average. Their cheddar fries were very good. The advertisement on menu re 1/2 price off “SELECTED” appetizers is misleading. They should put a star or an icon next to which specific appetizer applies to 1/2 off!!! Make sure you check with them re appetizers.
Able to bring our dog in to the patio area! Nice sand volleyball courts! Good specials and the food was good. Hard to get a drink outside sometimes. Only 1 staff. Can't order from the bar if you sit outside. Don't understand this.
I would have given this place 5 stars but I felt like service could have been better. That's not to say that the bartender did an excellent job tending to my friend and I. They had thirsty goat on tap witch was nice. We ordered their queso dip which was underwhelming, really generic thin chips and the queso was good but nothing extraordinary. On the other hand the bacon burger was excellent. It was well clocked and very filling. Fries were good but nothing special. Overall, bartender was great and he could have used a server to help him as his side of the restaurant was full, but overall good experience. Worth returning.
It's ok, lots of seating. Volleyball pits out back, not a huge beer selection, but I'm sure you can find something you like. Front area by the bar is a bit small. Staff are good and make sure you're taken care of. Worth your time.
My friends and I came in for the Stars playoff game. The staff was nice and accommodating for our best viewing of the game. I suggest they make their cocktails in smaller glasses.. their vodka redbull was in a 20oz
Just stopped in for a quick drink before going to see the bats at Congress bridge. The drinks were good. The service was good. Only one problem was the guy who decided he should use the women's bathroom.
Definitely closer to a dive bar. The bathrooms were not great. We came during a lunch rush but I really appreciated the lunch options. This place would probably be a great place to grab a beer.
Great burger and fries. Service was outstanding. Laid back, will visit again.
The burgers here are so good. You know its goin to be good when they ask how you want your meat cooked!! Mines was cooked perfectly medium rare just how I like it. The fries were on point, and the service was even better. The salsa was a little too bland on my end of the spectrum, but my mom who doesnt care for spice loved it. Other than that, we're goin back for sure. This place is Texan approved!!
Stopped in after being at the Congress bridge seeing bats, not at all crowded. Great service even for our party of 8, with good food. Recommend to all.
I think if you're not going here to play volleyball, find another place if you can. If I was a volleyball player who liked good beer and cheap happy hour prices, I'd give the place 5 stars. But I just wanted a quick beer and burger and it was 20 min to get a beer and an hour before the food came.
Food is just bar food. The main attraction here is the atmosphere and drink specials. This is the place to hang out during the summer if you like volleyball. Sometimes you will get Olympic volleyball players here playing pick up games. I'm not that good to play against them but it's fun to watch. I never knew volleyball bars existed before moving to Austin.
The food is decent though not anything fancy. For example the lettuce is iceberg. The ingredients seem pretty fresh which is a plus. It is a good place for very casual meals and to watch or play sand volleyball. Good lunch spot due to location and price.
I had the Blackened Shrimp and Spinach Salad. It was not what I expected. The salad was just too plain for me. I had a great time there, though! :)
Service was nice but not the best. Seemed to pay more attention to what seemed like regulars getting caught up in conversation. Understandable. We're from out of town and we were bored so we decided this place seemed chill along with the late night happy hour! Cheap drinks, salsa was mediocre but at least they gave us free refills so we could finish the chips they provided.
I had the club sandwich which was good but it stopped there. I substituted corn for french fries working on being a little more healthy. They were bland with a lot of water in the bottom of the cup. I ordered water with lemon, but the water had a weird taste to it. So I thought I’ll just have a Diet Coke, which was flat and also had somewhat of a weird taste. Not sure if it was the ice or what. My wife had a quesadilla and said it was just average. We’re really not critical of food and eat pretty much anything but this is clearly a sports bar focused more on their sports than on the food they serve. Doubtful will go back there I wouldn’t recommend it for dinner, but if you’re just out to grab a beer it’s probably not a bad place to go.
5 stars for our server. She was friendly and attentive. The tv was BLARING but there were lots to choose from to watch. The food was .....meh. I got potato soup and salad. The soup would've been good but it was scalded. I took it with me in case I wanted to drunk eat it after 6th st. Lol that didn't happen. Quesadillas were expensive for what you get. Chips and salsa were very good.
2 stars because the bathroom didn't smell like urine, first time ever. I go to Aussies every few years for my mom for the past 15 years. Food has always been sub- par but it's worse. Chicken fried steak needs to be hammered out, you can't just drop the steak into the breading. I can understand a rookie cook not knowing, but what about the server, the expo, the manager, letting that fly? 2 people at my table got it, like it's the norm. Blue moon draft beer, flat, like they poured it the night before. Pina colada couldn't taste, smell, or feel any rum. Fried mushrooms, cold. Salsa is more like cold marinara, no spice, no jalapeno, cilantro, normal stuff you find in salsa. Somebody said they liked the wings, but I'm looking around a large table, and noticing people not really enjoying their food
This place might be a great place to get drunk and play volley ball, but the food is less than middle of the road in my opinion. I rarely feel the need to add salt at places, but here I did. Staff is great and atmosphere is neat for a beachy vibe in DT Austin, but I think I’d have to be drunk to enjoy the food. Oh, it’s a plus that you can bring your dog both inside & out but keep them out of the sand.
I came here for a burger during lunch, tried the Roo Burger, which apparently is what they’re known for. I was served maybe 15 fries, and the burger was a frozen patty. It was $16 for the meal. I would recommend going elsewhere
If your a guy looking to grab a beer and a burger, the chili is also good, this place has decent food and is not over priced. The staff has never once been friendly to me in the 4 or 5 times I have been there. Maybe I’m old fashioned but when I sit down and they see me at the bar for some reason I expect to be greeted. Usually they chat with the other staff at the end of the bar or do dishes for a few minutes before they acknowledge my presence. Then they just do and say the minimum required and never have tried to make me feel welcome…
Nice volleyball courts. That’s it. The seating and tables are barely maintained and everything seems to be falling apart. the place really disappoints if you just want to get a quick bite or a drink.
Ordered 2 burgers to go for my 9 year old and I. It was late, there was cigarette smoke inside and a pride parade outside - my daughter was scared of the people outside and coughing inside, so as soon as the order was ready, I made the mistake of not checking it. Once we got back to our hotel room, I discovered there were no napkins, and no plastic ware to spread the mayo and ketchup. And they had covered the fries and parts of the burger in black pepper, making those parts inedible for us. The bacon was missing from my daughter's burger, and the buns were so soggy that they fell apart before we were even half done. (We started eating within 7 min of receiving food). All in all a very disappointing experience. We spent $30 for the 2 of us.
I stopped by AUSSIE because I was in the mood for tacos and saw they had shrimp tacos on the menu. The place itself looked nice, and the iced tea ($2.99) was actually very good. However, the overall experience left me a little disappointed. The restaurant felt unusually quiet inside. There were people there, but the music and atmosphere didn’t match the kind of lively energy you’d expect. The biggest issue was the shrimp tacos. The menu price was $15.99, which I assumed would be for three tacos, which is typical at most places. Instead, I received two very small tacos, each with only three shrimp. There were no sides no chips, no rice, no beans just the two tacos. In the end, that meant paying about $8 per taco for six shrimp total, which felt overpriced for what was served. For that portion size, it honestly felt more like an appetizer and would make more sense priced around $12.99. Other dishes I saw coming out of the kitchen like the burgers and salads—looked much larger and more like full meals, so those might be a better option. If you stop by, my suggestion would be to skip the tacos and try something else on the menu. Austin has plenty of great taco spots where you’ll get much more value for the price
The food is so bad lol. Just come here to play volleyball or drink beer, please don't order the food. Unless soggy fries and chicken are your thing.
The patio is great for enjoying the weather. That's about it!!. The chicken wings were under cooked and had an off smell. When I ask if they were fully cooked, server replied, "that's how our lemon pepper wings look". (Sadly I didn't order lemon pepper) The sparkling water from the tap had a slight chlorine taste.
The food was pretty bland, some of our items came out close to cold. I wouldn't come here for anything other then drinks which were good and affordable. I had the catfish which was oddly fishy but it was cooked well, and the fries that came out were soggy. Our nachos were alright but they weren't hot and plain for the price.
The worst meal I have every had in America! As an Aussie and our last night in Austin, we thought we'd try Aussies. Had fish and chips, the chips had been in a Bain Marie for 4 days the coleslaw was old and the fish wasn't cooked. Right now, I'm just hoping I don't get sick
Disgusting. Frozen food out of a bag. Chili out of a can. Not exaggerating! So gross
Some of the worst food I’ve ever had and a terrible business as a whole. Opens at 9, kitchen doesn’t open till 10. For what purpose do you “open” at 9? Ordered chicken fried steak with fries, got chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes. It was definitely a frozen patty and the gravy was made from powder. My friend’s burgers were dry and nothing had any flavor. Just an all around awful experience. Will never go back here.
I wouldn't even give this place 1 star if I had the option! This place was TERRIBLE we sat there for an hour in a half last night WITH 2 KIDS and did not get greeted, given any menus, or any drinks and I had to go approach a waitress and still didn't get anything for an extra 30 minutes it was the most worst experience ever so many other groups were greeted given drinks and given menus that came in AFTER my family WITH NO KIDS with them. so essentially we were there for 2 1/2 hours and only 30 minutes of that we actually had a drink on our table. I will NEVER be back very terrible customer service. What was so different about us Is it that we had 2 kids with us and no other groups had children I mean seriously we should have just walked out and left enjoy the $42 yall DEFINITELY didn't earn. Ive never been somewhere in my 28 years of life that takes almost 2 hours to greet a family or give them menus, drinks or anything. TERRIBLE WE WILL NOT BE BACK. My kids had to miss half the fire work show because of this place and my 5 month old it's her 1st 4th so thanks for lack of customer service and taking away that experience from us. Yall should b ashamed. Saying yall were busy isn't an excuse since yall greeted many more families that got there after us while my family sat there and waited and waited and waited. I am not happy with this experience AT ALL!
I always eat out so for me to say that I experienced the worst table service ever is saying something. It was 15 minutes before a waitress came by and got my drink order and then it was 30 minutes before she realized I wanted to eat something. This place does not train its people or care to emphasize customer service. They have a bunch of guys walking around most sports bars hire semi-attractive women but these guys look like they just got off the shift from Jiffy Lube and are tired. Average food terrible service very uncomfortable places to sit. I don't see me coming back here
I would not recommend this place for anything. Our fries were cold, the burgers were overcooked, chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken were just frozen entrees and the Caesar salad came with tomatoes. The chili was basically canned hormel chili. If you like sports, it's probably good for that but drinks are pricy. The waiter was very nice and tried to help with the kitchen mess ups. Would not recommend.
Unfortunately, during my first visit here, both my purse and my friend’s purse were stolen. The surveillance near the volleyball area is very limited and disappointing, and the back gate was left unlocked. Not much was done to address the situation and I was still charged. Be sure to keep your belongings close and within sight while at this location.
OWNERS PLEASE TELL YOUR SERVERS TO ID! TABC IS NO JOKE! Genuinely horrible! This is not something I’ve ever actually done, but I truly feel an experience like this cannot go unheard. It was my first time there with my friends, and we were so excited. But the service we received was genuinely sad. Started at the bar and the girls working at 6 o’clock on Sunday (Sept. 28th) need to seriously be evaluated for how they talk to paying customers and the one and a half servers (one was still in training) covering 20 people. I don’t fault the new girl at all—this falls entirely on the “trained server” (cowboys shirt) and what I presume to be management?? Our entire table ordered drinks, and we either never received them, or they came out wrong and 40 minutes later. I ordered two frozen strawberry margaritas(only got one), 2 shots, and a burger. Also, for the owners to note—WE WERE NEVER ID’D. Keep in mind, we are a group of college students. Please remind your staff about this. When the bills came out, I knew they would be wrong. Why? Because I’ve been a server before, and I know how overwhelming it can be and mistakes can happen. But the way this team handled me correcting their mistake was HORRIFIC. I went up to the server stand to check the bill and noticed a drink we 100% did not order. I let her know nicely , and she gave me attitude, insisting that’s what we had ordered. I know for a fact my boyfriend wasn’t drinking a spicy margarita because we both hate jalapeños to our core—also I was the one ordering everything when they had insisted HE ordered it. Instead of simply correcting the mistake, the “management” then tried to go behind my back and get my boyfriend to blindly sign the check instead of coming to me directly and yes she walked right past me trying to pull a fast one. And when confronted she told me I was wrong and that she wasn’t voiding it and if you’re reading this and you know who you are COSTUMERS ARE NEVER IN THE WRONG! Completely unprofessional! The volleyball was great, and the place itself is nice, but the service was the worst I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. Owners, if you’re reading this, please take a second look at who you leave in charge of your business. Also please ID YOUR CUSTOMERS! TABC is no joke! It will cost you in the future if you don’t! We could’ve came here underage and nobody would’ve batted an eye. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll ever come back nor will the other 20 people who I came with and the people they tell about this experience…that’s a lot of lost business for a $10 margarita..and it’s solely because of one interaction—with the people you pay to represent you.
Got the bill....saw 4 tax line items on the bill...alcohol tax....service tax...credit tax(they didn't even asked if we were paying by credit)....sales tax.....when we asked the server about them....he said everyone has these fees...guess it's an Austin thing?? But we asked for further clarification....the server got belligerent and treated us like crap...definitely don't recommend...to be fair one bright spot was the beer was cold...the food was below average IMHO.
Hands down the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to, the food was terrible, fries where burnt to a crisp and the rest of the food tasted like something cheap I could have made at my house when I was drunk and we waited 1 hour to get it when we were one of three groups in the whole restaurant. On top of all that the prices where not cheap ether.
