Hestia provides an upscale yet relaxed fine-dining experience with unique and flavorful dishes cooked over an open flame. The service is consistently praised, especially bartenders and servers like Gabby and George. Some found meat courses undercooked or dishes too salty.

We stopped in for a quick drink and the service was so good, and the tortilla lady's tortillas looked so good we stayed to nibble. Salsas we're off the chart fantastic! Ian GM was friendly as our server Isabella. We are only in town for 5 days but I am bringing our group back!
Med - high price point but worth it for the ambiance, delicious food and banging margaritas. I'm had my eye on this spot downtown due to the beautiful location and high crowds. On the weekdays you can get a reservation while the weekends are first come first serve. The back patio area is festively decorated in traditional Mexican paper flags and l strings of light. The menu had the staples of Mexican fare (casadillas, enchiladas etc) and uncommon, traditional dishes that aren't often seen. I enjoyed the Shrimp A La Plancha which included the roasted guajillo most often seen in red pozole. They had an absolutely delicious taste and were chewy, just watch out for the smaller, red chilies which even made me reaching for water. The mango Margarita was my favorite so far in Austin as this mix tastes like an actual mango (think of the "Jumex" drink which alcohol). Overall, this restaurant made for a great weekday dinner and I'll be coming back for more.
Its a bar or a restaurant, Mexican style. Lot of options, big portion size to be shared in 1-3 people. Ordered pitchers which were not strong, so go for individual cocktails if you can.
Stopped by for a couple of drinks. The cocktails were awesome. Staff was super helpful and cordial which is also awesome. Ambiance is great. Chips and variety of salsa options. Couldn't have asked for more for quick cocktail stop on a Friday evening !
The food was outstanding. The waitress was friendly and polite. We started with the shrimp ceviche advertiser, it was amazing I could have made a meal out of it. We both had the carne guisada as our and it was outstanding. The on every thing we ordered was a good size, we both needed a Togo box. Next time I am in Austin we will be going back.
Awesome Mexican food. Enjoyed Enchiladas De Le Casa (vegetarian dish) and a non-alcoholic margarita. They have a salsa station and it was some of the best salsa I ever had. Homemade with a restaurant feel.
Veggie fajitas are giant and so delicious. The platter is huge and the flavors were fantastic - we had mushrooms and cabbage and zucchini and all sorts of things that went beautifully in a taco with some salsa. Yay! Their salsa bar is also a winner- there are many options and for a flat and affordable price you can serve yourself. I think that's fantastic. Margaritas are also good.
The food is fresh with massive portions!!! So glad I shared a plate! Service was outstanding and atmosphere was awesome for a nice Saturday lunch. They easily served our group of 25. We had chips salsas and bean tostado plate to start then came the massive plates of food that was delicious. It was easy to hold a conversation, the acoustics were great…something I think is important when you are a big group.
For me it was amazing: Great food, specially the fajitas, oh and tge queso as an appetizer, a great atmosphere at the bar with great chips and two hot sauces (red, green). A very noce taco bar with all types of sauces and stuff for whatever Mexican you ordered. Each bowl of salsa for $4 a piece. Don't get too late or the place will be totally crowded.
YOU HAVE TO GO. It’s mandatory. Amy did a great job and recommended incredible fajitas. #inAmywetrust
Customer service was amazing for the size had was 15-20 people. Isabella or Isabel was amazing with customer service and accommodations for my disabled family members. The food was delicious and presentation was wonderful. It was cool with a variety of Salsas. The atmosphere was good but it felt like a club at times with the music loud and it was at times difficult to speak to each other. Overall, they were amazing with food, service, and accommodations. I would recommend this location but be sure to setup a reservation so you won’t have to wait.
One of my favs for past 20 years at various Austin locations. Food is always on point. Service is good to great depending on where you sit and who is working. Music/ambience has always been fun and upbeat. We had them cater our wedding. ❤️
It's absolutely fantastic to have just your standard tex-mex institution downtown for a bite and margs. You don't always want to drop hundreds of dollars on an "elevated" dining experience before a show. And the deck is amazing!
Hestia was outstanding....one of our favorite dining experiences while visiting Austin. 5-star food and service...outstanding experience and meal. We were a group of four and all loved our creative cocktails, the delicious made at your table martinis, and feel in love with their scallop dish and their halibut as well as the green beans - all delicious and incredible. The drink menu is creative and carefully crafted and the wine list provides a great selection. All of our starters and dinner entrees were magnificent but the show stopper was the scallops, beautifully presented in shells on hot rocks. Outstanding dining indulgence and worth a visit.
This has officially earned a spot in my top five restaurants in Austin. From the moment we arrived, the service set the tone—our host and server were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely receptive to our preferences. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance: intimate enough for a date night, yet lively enough for a late-night dinner. Now, onto the food—all ordered à la carte-the charred corn is an absolute must-try; it’s one of those bites you think about after the meal ends, and I’m still kicking myself for not ordering a second round. We also had the kampachi crudo, scallops, Red Ranger chicken, Texas wagyu sirloin, and finished with the sourdough ice cream. The sourdough ice cream was a standout dessert: creative, unexpected, and incredibly well balanced, ending the meal on a high note. A must try restaurant in Austin! :)
An absolutely incredible place to have a great food experience. This was our fourth time visiting, and our first since Hestia received its Michelin star. All members of the front of house staff that attended to our table were inviting, entertaining, and enthusiastic. We felt like a part of the family, particularly as they were helping us celebrate our anniversary! Every dish of their tasting menu offered a really intriguing and delicious take on open hearth preparation. We particularly loved the beef and guanciale dish with the green Thai sauce as well as their staple take on seared scallop. I also left the meal thinking about how simple but beautiful their preparation of kanpachi with pickled roselles was. Lastly, I have to mention that at the end of the meal. It wasn’t until my husband and I looked at our watches that we realized that 2 1/2 hours had gone by. The meal was so expertly timed between the care of the front of house staff, the chef, and kitchen that it never felt like we were waiting for anything. Everything flowed like clockwork. Our heartiest congratulations to Hestia on another Michelin star well deserved.
Absolutely delicious! Every meal from starting to end was perfection. Staff was friendly and I got to sit in front of kitchen. Everyone worked well and fast. Flavors included ingredients that complemented each other. Visually appealing and unique dishes. Bite dishes are small and fir only 1 person. Everything else is sharable. My personal favorites were the Waygu Tatar (raw section) 10/10 and Halibut ( main section) 10/10. Also tried the Waygu sirloin, scallops, crab tostada. Everything was cooked perfectly and exceeded my expectations. I read previous reviews, and some were mixed. I opted out of the fixed course ($195 per person)the offer because of mixed opinions. I decided to just pick things from the menu that I wanted to try. For 2 people and spent under $400. We finished with dessert Bunuelo and recommended if you like a variety of textures. It's base is a crunchy shell and it has a gooey almond filling, not overwhelming, sweet, and topped with ice cream. Overall, will recommended to anyone visiting Austin and would dine here again.
Wow. Just wow. Hestia is where wood fired dreams come to life. Everything is cooked over an open flame, and the Michelin Star is fully deserved. A very elevated experience. You can taste the art in every bite. Wr started with 2 bites, the corn and husk and the crab toast. They were so cute. One bite. We then got the crudo and I loved the smokiness of this dish. The halibut was even better. It came with a pour of this green tasty sauce. Bring me 2 mesquite cakes! That wood fire process is making babies back there. Excellent!
The food was fantastic, especially the small bites! A touch too salty for my liking, but overall very flavorful. The restaurant is not big, so it’s best to book a reservation in advance. They even prepared a handwritten card signed by all the staff for my husband’s birthday, which was such a thoughtful gesture.
Cornbread and caviar, wouldn’t have it any other way in Austin. Hestia nails the Austin vibe, delivering an experience that's upscale yet relaxed, casual and cool without the stuffiness. I’ve heard so much recently about Hestia and glad we were able to reserve a spot for the chef tasting. The 12-courses were perfectly portioned, with us barely able to finish it all. We opted for the wine pairing and it made the experience that much more special. The servers came with the right timing and educated us on all the wine pick stories. Food was incredible. I think we said Wow at least 10 times throughout the dinner. Can’t go wrong! Pro tip: Don’t get a cocktail before dinner if you’re getting the wine pairing, lol. And definitely use rideshare!
Sat at the bar, service from all 3 bartenders was exceptional. Food and drinks were a standout and probably the best from the Michelin star spots we’ve had in Texas thus far. Dessert - there was one we weren’t a fan off it looked like a pretzel, but they took care of it immediately and changed to something we preferred more. Will go back when in Austin
Came here for our anniversary dinner and everything was absolutely amazing. From start to finish, the staff took great care of us and made the evening special. I had a small issue with the sirloin, but the team handled it like true professionals shout out to George for going above and beyond. The level of hospitality, along with the incredible food, had me clicking my heels together on the way out. We will absolutely be back.
We celebrated our anniversary with friends last night and had an amazing time. Our service was phenomenal and we appreciated the little touches to make our night extra special. I will dream about the charred corn and the halibut for the rest of my life! Everything was great but these 2 were the absolute standouts!
Puts the fine in fine dining! Everything about this place was 10/10. The food was immaculate and service even better. It was fine dining without it feeling stuck up which is one of my favorite things. You can have conversations with the wait staff and service and still felt elevated. Do the Tasting Menu. I repeat, do the Tasting Menu. It is such a fun experience and the wine pairing made it that much more fun! The food was well presented and very full of flavor and freshness. My favorite things were the scallop, halibut, and ribeye! All of it was excellent though. Gabi, Angelyn, and Blake were SO FUN! They checked up on us, brought their personalities, and really made the evening one to remember. They epitomize the definition of service and set the bar high. Bonus ifykyk, the pretzel sticks stole the show.
The tasting menu at Hestia was a very good experience. Unlike most other tasting menus, they provide you with a description of what’s in it before you start so that you can choose if it’s right for you. The tasting menu featured some of the more popular dishes on the à la carte menu and had a few extras thrown in as well. This restaurant has an open hearth and so you should expect that it will smell a bit smoky and you might even leave with the smell on your clothes. The food and the service are definitely worth the visit!
This place is amazing! The blending of smoke and fire is evident, thriving in their menu. Not overdone, subtly mixed in the right proportion to create unique and amazing flavors throughout the dining experience. The wait staff are well trained, working behind the scenes of diners as a well oiled machine, showing up when desired and allowing the meal to take place when not. Well done and highly recommend this place. The appetizers were creative and well executed, the halibut was out of this world and the pork chop was divine.
My lady and I dined here on a Saturday night and chose to sit at the bar. We began with hors d’oeuvres that were absolutely delicious—an impressive start to the evening. From there, we moved on to scallops cooked in beef tallow, and I’m not exaggerating when I say they were some of the best I’ve ever had. We also shared a perfectly prepared halibut and wrapped up our main course with a beautifully cooked steak. Both the desserts and the drinks were exceptional. As two people who work in fine dining, our standards for food and service are high—and both were not only met but exceeded. Truly a 10/10 experience from start to finish.
This place isn’t really what it used to be, I remember it used to get so packed and fun and I loved it. I feel like they really let the business and it’s quality go down a bit since they first opened. The food is still good, a bit too greasy but delicious. Rafa our server was amazing! The drinks are strong which is another plus to coming here. Nice patio views, great location downtown.
Honestly the mole, enchilada Verde, shrimp Diablo was needed more sauce but it was so far I definitely recommend food.
Nice version of the original on south first. Authentic Mexican, great tacos. A little pricey, but not terrible. Other comments talk about the music volume. I think it was at 7pm they literally turned down the lights and upped the music volume. We went from restaurant to club in 30 seconds.
Great location spot for this place. The atmosphere was very nice, hostess was great, and got seated right away. Food was good but i would have loved my sizzling fajitas to come out sizzling. Drinks were good, salsa was good, age they had verde sauce. Inside and outside area, dog friendly patio, but Our waiter took awhile to get to us and bring our food though. Overall pretty great but the south 1st location is where it's at. Definitely not as pretty but the food, service, salsa, etc is definitely a step above.
Polvo's has been serving solid Mexican food in Austin since the late 1990s at their S 1st location and I've been going since they opened. Yet when I happen to be here in this downtown area and in need of food, I can't go wrong at this location. It has the same amazing salsa bar and fantastic house-made flour and corn tortillas -- which is the main reason we visit. This morning, just after the Thanksgiving holiday, we stopped in after shopping around the downtown area and had some ceviche and their amazing sauces and tortillas. The plus is they have both good indoor seating as well as outdoor seating that is lovely when the weather is nice. Service was kind as always and top-notch. Regular's tip: the street tacos are authentic perfection!
Food and atmosphere was great. There was not enough of a staff. Are waitress was trying to check on us, but she was also making drinks for the whole restaurant. We sat there for awhile before someone took our order.
We recently had the opportunity to dine at the newly awarded 1 Michelin star restaurant Hestia in Austin, Texas. After having the chef’s testing menu, I am uncertain how this restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. Starting with the atmosphere the restaurant itself was very nicely decorated but could be a bit dark in some areas which could make it difficult for older people to see. It was a lively restaurant with a moderate to high noise level. At the time we were there it was loud enough that it was a bit difficult to carry on a conversation without having to raise our voices so we could hear each other. Service staff we very nice and knowledgeable, however, could be quite clumsy. I realize that accidents will always occur, however, they seemed to happen more often in this restaurant. There were a number of dishes that required sauces or finishes table side and with almost every dish the sauces were dripped onto the table and even in my water glass. Not a big deal but definitely not what you would expect at a Michelin level restaurant. A server even dropped a bowl while clearing the table next to us and spilled sauce all over the table, floor, and customer. Again, accidents happen but I’m not sure if it was rushing or clumsiness, it just seemed to happen more often here than any other restaurant I’ve been to. The food unfortunately was the biggest disappointment of the night. The dishes were plated beautifully but they lacked harmony in the flavors. I think the focus on “hearth” cooking and an attempt to incorporate fire, smoke, and ash into every dish as a novelty, ruined what might have been otherwise excellent dishes. For the vast majority of the dishes served we could not taste any of the flavor elements or ingredients that the server described aside from the ubiquitous char elements previously mentioned. It’s not that I’m a food snob (I enjoy everything from spam and rice and cup noodles all the way up to Michelin star cuisine and everything in between) but for me it’s about the value. If I’m spending over $500 for a meal for 2 people then the value should be there and it just wasn’t. Atmosphere: 3.5/5 (For poor lighting and noise level) Service: 3.5/5 (below the standard of a Michelin star restaurant) Food: 2/5 (execution and flavor miss the mark and are definitely not Michelin level compared to other restaurants I’ve dined at) Price: $$$ Overall Value: 2/5 Total: 2.75
I want to give Hestia more than two stars. The appetizers, the cocktails, and the dessert were absolutely phenomenal. However, the two main meat courses have serious concern. Both the pork chop and 30 day aged ribeye were ordered medium rare. The pork chop came beyond blue and ribeye blue. The pork chop should never have made it beyond the kitchen. I give two stars because these mains should be Hestia's bread and butter. I don't think there is much of an excuse for serving raw pork and meeting a customer temp request should be the bare minimum at $400+ for two people. Edit: The fact that Google AI thinks the pork is a piece of seared tuna is wild.
We visited this fine-dining restaurant, and unfortunately, the experience was quite mixed. Here is my detailed impression of the dishes and the service. Food: Oysters. They were very fresh, with a creative and visually appealing presentation. However, the non-classic sauces didn’t work for me — traditional pairings would have tasted better. Steak tartare. A complete disappointment. You can barely taste the meat: the pieces are tiny and thin, and the flavor is completely overpowered by a grain that tastes like toasted buckwheat. Mushrooms. Over-seasoned and over-fried. They were meant to be piquant, but there were so many spices that you could literally feel the powdery texture. Halibut. The highlight of the entire evening was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and incredibly delicious. The only dish I would genuinely want to order again. Desserts (panna cotta and ice cream). Both desserts were interesting, but the ice cream was the clear winner. Atmosphere: There is a powerful smell of smoke inside — so strong that your hair and clothes end up absorbing it completely. This was highly unpleasant. Service: Even though there were free tables and we had a reservation, we waited about 20 minutes before being seated. The waitress taking our order was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu, but the staff bringing out the dishes mixed up where to place them. We were also celebrating two birthdays, and the situation with the desserts was uncomfortable: we ordered two desserts, but both received candles. The second one was placed in front of the other birthday person, who didn’t even order a dessert. It felt awkward and unprofessional. In restaurants of this level, it's standard to offer a complimentary dessert for birthday guests, but here everything felt strange and poorly handled. Overall: I’m giving one star for the halibut and one star for the waitress. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn’t deserve more than that. I would not return.
save your self a visit and go elsewhere, overpriced and slow service especially when trying to leave. the drinks were ok but the rice given next to every entree everyone one in my party said it was bland and only took a bite and as soon on other tables where plates weren’t cleared. service was slow took about 30 minutes after the check was given to us for server to grab the card and then another 15 to hand back. That was longer than our entire meal so avoid here if you are in a time rush. Also the restarsunt was half full at the time Paloma
