Star Bar is one of the highlights of West Sixth. The tap selection is diverse, Tumble 22 serves great Nashville hot chicken at the side, and there is ample seating inside and out.
Loved their Bloody Mary! My girlfriend generally hates Bloody Marys but even she ended up getting two of her own during our visit!
Definitely for a more mature crowd. This is not a flip-flop, torn jeans type of lounge. Be prepared for good conversations with patrons and a nice glass of martinis and scotch.
While I dont find anything particularly memorable about the bar, the reason I love this place is that my favorite food trailer lives behind it on weekend nights. That trailer being The Peached Tortilla! You will not find a better deal and more delicious trailer food on West 6th St and may never encounter asian fusion tacos quite like these anywhere else for that matter. My favorite is the bahn mi (vietnamese pork belly tacos). The Pad Thai and Chicken Satay tie for 2nd, and I'll usually just order all three cause they are so cheap!! Star Bar has a great little back porch with a gate to let you walk out to the trailer and bring the food back into the bar with you. So I love making Star Bar a late night stop, for a beer and some tacos.
Solid, w 6th mainstay. Friendly and attentive staff always catering to your needs. It's kind of my Cheers. Amazing spicy chicken food trailer in back.
Great place to watch sports, our bartender Matt was amazing. The Detroit style pizza was delicious.
They've been great hosts to the Austin Seminole Club for 5 years! Good drinks, great bartenders, excellent location. And that patio!!
Love going here for Packers games! Bar tenders are amazing as well & even took the time to make a specialty shot for me!
Star bar is better than a hummer in the ninth grade. The service is exceptional. 5/5. Bar tenders clay and mallorie are awesome.
Service was great had a drink called Ms.Claus and it was great was visiting from Alabama they also have a food truck the pizza was delicious.
Fun outdoor bar with good atmosphere. Via 313 pizza truck located at the bar for great late snacks that hit the spot!
Great Packer bar. Cool outdoor atmosphere and very dog friendly. As of 1/1/17 the food truck that was attached is no longer present, but I am sure a new one will be in soon.
The bar itself is just like any other bar. The Peached Tortilla trailer in the back is awesome though, and makes the place much more attractive. EDIT: I came back here for a football gamewatch and had an amazing time. The manager was on it and gave us a great space and took care of us. Yay Star Bar! You have grown in great esteem.
💙 Starbar so much. Is it a pretty basic bar? Yes. But can you always count on good service, good drinks and a relatively calm atmosphere? Also yes. If you want no frills on west 6th just park your butt at Starbar and get your peoplewatch on! Hello there is a 313 pizza truck on the property, so idk how you could dislike Starbar. It's an Austin icon.
This is the bar where everyone knows my name. It's the bar that starts the fun that is west 6th. I like coming here when its packed as much as I do when it is dead. The tented patio is my favorite part. It has TVs in every direction. You can play big jenga and watch a NFL game. They have great craft beer on tap. My fav is the mini half bottles of bubbly they sell. (Also has gluten free beer). The staff is as friendly as they are good looking. Great people watching on the front patio. Love the free popcorn machine. Casual Dress. Check out the food truck out back.
Great people, atmosphere and Pizza. VIA313 is literally the best pizza we gave ever had...and out of a food truck! Amazing!! Thank you Austin for a great vacation
Staff was SUPER friendly! CT, Maggie, & Angela go above and beyond to make the guest’s experience memorable.
Really chill bar. Small beer selection but the few they do have are excellently selected. No macrobrewey stuff here. Taco truck next door is a nice touch and delicious.
A couple of friends wanted to go somewhere after the wedding and they talked with the staff. They opened earlier and were very friendly. Many options of mexican food! It was great!
The pizza is in a food truck. They have gluten free pizza here. It was yummy. Oh and the pizza crust was a thick crust. Not that thin crust that every other place gives you.
Great place with a great atmosphere!
Great staff and drinks served! There is no food here unless you get it from the food truck outside. I believe the food truck closes at midnight. This place is located on West 6th Street. It is not near the side of 6th Street with bar, after bar, after bar. This is a great thing and sometimes you can find parking nearby the bar. If Aaron, the bartender in the picture I uploaded is there you can expect excellent service. When I took Aaron's picture it was after Texas had defeated BYU 17 - 16 on Saturday, September 10, 2011.
Awesome staff! Brought a group of 30 in for pizza and drinks and everything was amazing! Super friendly professional bartenders!
Great place to watch Green Bay games on Sundays. Pretty chill bartenders. Also, there is this cool dude out back that has burgers for cheap. Two thumbs up.
What a great experience all around! Our bartender Turner helped make my buddy and I’s birthday one to remember! She was so helpful and seriously the nicest person ever! It was our last night in Austin and we were not sure where to go, but this turned out to be the best night ever! 25/10
Great place to gather with friends and have cocktails 🍸 of many sorts or be the Beer Craftsman with some of the local brands on hand. The patio culture is a blast to take in with some via 313 pizza on grounds. The Staff is awesome!! Ladies behind the bar always have a smile when serving their patrons!! And, gentlemen on the floor are way cool to talk to and are very professional at their duties!!
I came by here just now for some pizza and there Detroit pizza reminded me of the three bears because it was just right!! The crust wasn't too think and they actually had an option to have less cheese!! I had come on sat but it was just way to busy so coming during the week was much faster and less loud!!
Great mixed drinks, awesome views and the fried chicken next door is amazing!!! Very dog friendly place which made it fun. Probably the cleanest bar bathroom I've ever encountered. Be sure to check it out!
Good service and selection of of drinks. Personally I like the back area to chill partially outside at the bar, most relaxing area and not super noisy. Bigger spot that it appears. I'll be going back.
They have a pretty large space with both inside and outside seating. The fried chicken trailer in their back porch is great! They have a pretty good selection of beers on tap as well.
Jared and the team at the patio bar were fantastic!! Our bachelorette party included UNC and Duke alumni, and we were in town for a rivalry game, so we wanted a great bar to watch at. Star Bar came recommended from friends in Austin, and Jared was super accommodating when I reached out to ensure we could reserve tables with a great view of the TVs. Tons of UNC alumni came out to enjoy the game, and the bar service was great, even when busy.
One of the first bars I went to in Austin after moving. Staff is very friendly, made me feel welcome. And after being here a year, this is one of the few places I was able to find revolver brewing company's blood and honey on tap!
This was a great bar, their water even tasted great compared to other bars I’ve been to.
Walking distance from work, we decided to have a work get together there. Having a Via313 trailer in the back was so convenient. The drinks were great and everyone left happy and full
The bartenders Maggie and CT were awesome!! Other than that, there was no WiFi, and they didn’t show the UFC fights or any other big sporting events. Which is why we came, we hope they change their policies soon and we can enjoy sports at their bar!
Great bartenders! When they were out of my friends favorite go to drink, they tried a few different things till she found something she liked! We named it the Spa Spritzer!
Came for a late night Sunday drink down the street from my hotel. Excellent drink selection and great staff and service. Enjoyed the Kona on tap! Sat inside as the a/c felt good!
Service is phenomenal. One of the bartenders helped me with my physical disability needs right away. Love the selection of light beers that they have. I will definitely be back when I return to ATX.
Exciting, spacious thirty year old bar with several rims indoor and outside at a major corner on west Sixth Street. They have bar seating in two different rooms with several tables and standing spots. The two different outside patios also have several tables. Visa 313 pizza has a kitchen adjoining the restaurant with a service window opening into one bar room and another window opening to the sidewalk. Star Bar has happy hour on weekday nights Monday through Thursday, 4pm-midnight with a combo of $2 Via 313 pizza slices (cheese or detroiter/pepperoni) and $2 Lonestar beers. There is paid street parking on surrounding streets.
I went into star bar for the first time tonight. Maggie behind the bar was absolutely lovely. Talk about someone making a customer feel welcome. If you are ever in the area star bar is a must when maggie is working
Had an incredible experience with the bartender, Angela! Not only was the drink selection top-notch, but the service was friendly, fast, and personalized. Truly made the evening unforgettable! P.S. this is a packers bar and Angela made us feel at home.
If you’re a Packer fan in Austin, this place is a MUST on game day. Decent beer + Via313 pizza + Packer fans galore = solid place to watch the Packers win (even though they lost last time I was there but were just going to ignore that fact).
We heald a corporate happy hour here. The staff was great. To reserve we didn't have to put 1500$ to the bill and pay 30%. Staff was awesome. You can't go wrong with hosting an event here.
Post-frat environment, centrally located on West 6th in the middle of everything. Great place to stop in for a drink for a pit stop, late at night don't be surprised to see some snow in the bathroom.
I'm not sure why this is such a popular spot, but it is and the population is well worth the four-stars themselves. The location makes it ideal for a stop on a West 6th pub crawl, and the basic layout makes for an easy entrance.
To me, the best thing about Star Bar is the huge window and relative relaxed atmosphere. In my experience the drinks and music aren't really special.
Very cool atmosphere in here. It's not large, so be prepared to wait for a place to sit down. This is a nice, low-key spot in the middle of West Sixth.
Great place to get drinks while watching the game. Both indoor and outdoor options. Great hot chicken trailer on the patio and taco trailer across the street.
Laid-back environment, fun for a happy hour after work. Staff is very friendly and I always see attractive women here during my happy hours.
Mellow by 6th Street standards but had seats available, with good service and available pizza. Good precursor to the more vibrant places downtown.
Everyone in Austin has heard of the Star Bar, one of the better bars to go on 6th and has been around for some time now. The atmosphere is fun and good local crowd. The staff are always nice and provide excellent service.
Nice relaxed atmosphere. I liked the red circular couches that were comfortable and cozy enough for conversation. The staff was friendly and helpful; and while the drink prices are on the more expensive side, they are off-set by good daily specials. I will visit again.
Very friendly staff and strong drinks. Can be low key, or way too crowded depending on the night. I liked it before the remodel, but have to say that I will keep coming back regardless
Laid back W 6th bar. Solid tunes and drinks during the nights. The beer selection isn't huge but they always have a few local brews available. Pricing isn't bad, pretty standard for W 6th. This also surpisingly isn't a bad place to watch games. Hoops is on at night on the TVs and they do football well. A popular Green Bay Packer bar, they bring in a food truck that delivers Wisconsin brats and other delicious dishes. There's a great patio with washers in the back and outdoor seating out front as well. Definitely worth the visit.
Star Bar is a staple of West 6th street. It's not air conditioned but there are plenty of fans and the atmosphere is always festive. If you're bar hoping down sixth, I would recommend a pop in at the very least.
West 6th atmosphere for sure. Nothing wrong with it if it’s what you’re in the mood for. We still go here sometimes. Usually just for drinks. Good beer selection from what I remember.
They've upgraded the patio and tables since the last time I've been here, as well as added a bar outside. Good beer on tap and a great taco truck, The Violet Taco, serving food.
Nothing special but it is a good spot to watch sports. The entire place is covered but half of it is in-doors while the back half is a patio setup with no walls. There is two bars - one up front inside and one in the back. There is also a food truck in the back - used to be a taco truck but is now a fried chicken truck = good drunk munchies. Lots of TVs to watch sports on.
Each time I've been here, I've been met with a barely decent draught beer selection and douche bags parading as men. Staff is excellent, as is the patio, but the aforementioned negative factors will keep me away.
Cool place, but very loud music. It was during the daytime and I could barely talk to the people right in front of me. Which was annoying since I was there for a social networking event and was trying to talk and listen to many new people.
Great venue for a Packer game in Texas! Get there early seating is limited. Go somewhere else for food through. Drinks were great and staff was GREAT 👍
Like the bar, love the staff, great location, good drinks. Admittedly I am a little cynical about the bar scene but even for 6th street the douche bag quotient can be a little high here among the patrons.
I guess know why this place was dead. They charged us $20 for 2 beers and the vibes were awful. Just go across the street.
The Star Bar has two really cool patios. The front patio is good if you want to watch the folks walking up and down west sixth street. The back patio is cool to chill with a group of friends on one of their big outside patios.
They have a decent beer selection (but the prices are a bit higher, especially since Opal Divine's is right down the street and they have a great selection). OK looking crowd - a mix of late 20s, early 30s. Music is TOO loud to have a conversation. Patio is nice though.
Great atmosphere, and socially distant for the pandemic. I was only disappointed in their beer selections. Packers bar. There’s plenty of seating inside and out. Very clean.
This is the corner I always pass by on west and never gave it a chance. I finally had a chance to try it out when my company hosted an event here. It's a bit more a more chill/sophiscated place compare to the other bars around the area. They also have a nice space with a decent trailer food truck in the back. the bar is not spectecular. However they do have a good wine sleection.
Awesome roof deck. Beyond that Star Bar is just OK. The service kinda sucks, the specials are so-so, and the food just looked decent. So many great options in the area that it is hard to recommend Star Bar. Great view of the city and a great vibe from the roof though, so it is hard to say you won't have a good time.
One of the more low-key bars on West sixth, Star Bar has indoor and outdoor seating as well as a taco truck. The bartenders are friendly and their service is fast.
Always dead. Weird vibes. People will stand outside the patio and harass you. Staff has been rude many times I’ve been there
Flattest beer I’d ever had. Definitely ruined the momentum of the evening on my group’s bar crawl. Dude behind the bar was nice enough to take em back but it was just replaced with another flat beer with zero head.
First, let me say Jaime and his staff were friendly and helpful. They did their best to make up for Jed, the GM. I had been emailing Jed since February to arrange an event for a large group of people. He assured me that we could order from the Via 313 pizza window. We continued to email right up until 3 days before our Aug 27 event. He assured me everything was ready. Imagine my disappointment and embarrassment when Jaime explained the pizza truck was closed, and had been for 3-4 months! Is Jed such a bad GM that he doesn't know what's going on in his locations? Or was he blatantly lying? We may never know, since he won't respond to my email. Shame on you, Jed.
Terrible beer selection! They have my fave beer tap handles on their shelf and I asked when they'd get it back on tap. The bartender started trash talking them ensuring my future business only goes to Tumble 22 and the free water.
During our visit on December 14, 2025, we had an unfortunate interaction with the bartender that fell short of the level of service we expect from an established and respected business. When we asked for water, the bartender requested our IDs, which we understand and had no issue with. However, after confirming that we were only requesting water, he responded by pointing to the water without speaking, in a manner that felt dismissive and condescending. When I mentioned that he could have simply stated politely that the water was available, he responded by rolling his eyes. This interaction was unnecessarily rude and made us feel uncomfortable. We do not believe this reflects the standards of professionalism or hospitality that your business is known for, which made the experience particularly disappointing. We did enjoy the cinnamon sticks though they were great.
This was rated as a spot with the best Bloody Mary's in Austin so I had to see for myself and was greatly disappointed. They didn't have any of the items to make the drink look spectacular like the website showed. I ordered a regular since I was already there and the host seemed put out by the order and ultimately our drinks tasted like she just dumped jalepeno juice with regular mix and threw an olive on top. It was so spicy I couldn't drink it. Sad start to the evening but still turned out to be a great night! Might could go back for beers and sports on TV
We politely requested to the manager (John) if we could watch the last 25s of the Penn St v Appalachian St game. To which he bluntly replied “no”. Thereafter we said “please sir it’s a tied very close game” and he responded “not my problem”. Odd considering this is a sports bar with multiple TVs. He was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I will not be back.
Worst manager ever. Seriously, not 1 person carded the whole night--I arrived 6:30 for a Ga Tech game--and at 9 pm my wife arrives...not allowed in. Keep in mind, I'm 46 and she is 33. Ruined my evening...I'm never coming back. Screw common sense or documents on phone w drivers license, passport, etc. FfFF these guys!!! We're old and treated like some Bush twin at 18. I'll tell every college student I teach that the quickest path to failure is through the Star Bar.
The Manager John was very rude and unaccommodating. We kindly requested several times to switch only 1 of the TVs to the penn st vs. app st game to a tv because it was in overtime. He refused, saying “not my problem” to my friend. Luckily, we watched the rest of the game on my friends phone. To say I’ll never come back is an understatement.
disrespectful staff, specifically a bouncer named lux. won't be back, and will recommend against going here. no reason to spend 7 dollars a beer on shifty staff.
Terrible staff. I quizzed Manager hey...Wisconsin game not on outside how come? Said hey place is a sea of red. Response was yeah well we have 4o prople from Clemson coming. I said dude...game has started they arent here. Shuffled Badgers fans inside. Those Clemson people never did show. He said well this is a Packer bar not a badger bar go to Lavaca Street. 2 things. 1.) I did go to Lavaca. With my money and my big mouth. 2 ) Wisconsin Badger fans 99 out of 100 times are Packer fans and vice versa. Jackass. Tell everyone I am.
The bartender didn’t know how to make the drink I ordered off their menu. She asked a coworker, they looked on the website & decided to tell me they were out of something. Switched to “Horse water” which claims to be their version of a “Cadillac Margarita”. It tasted like water and bug spray. She proceeded to give us a hard time about returning the drinks and closing our tab. I haven’t been there in 10 years and now I remember why.
I went there last night for Texas Venture crawl 10/6 because they listed this place as part of the program thinking there would be food and drinks and more stuff to do, imagine my disappointment when all it was was a bar and people talking. I went out to the patio area and sat down with someone to talk about the event from during the day when this beyond rude and disrespectful male wait staff comes over and tells me I need to get rid of a drink the event gave me that was just sitting on the table not open or anything and just looked at me with hate. He stood there waiting for me to put it in my bag or he was going to grab it and throw it away. I already reported this to the program review and told them to never use this place ever again cuz there was no reason for this guy to be so hostile. Maybe fire him? Didnt get his name though. Go somewhere else instead where customers are treated with respect and for that this place gets one star review. Dont use this place for your after parties. Just stick to private catering. Hope this saves whoever's reading this from a bad experience.
Don’t go for the deceitful “hail mary”. A regular bloody is $9 and the Hail Mary is $40. Came with a quarter slice of “pizza” and barely any of the toppings advertised. Also tasted like zingzang mix, thin watery and gross. Our card was charged without us being told the price and the rude waitress refused to adjust the price. We didn’t ask for a full refund, just to adjust the $24 upcharge. Disappointment compared to all the other awesome bars in Austin
Mrs and myself walked in on Tuesday (11/28) evening about 7:30ish. Saw three patrons at the front bar being tended by the barmaid, so we sat at an extended part of the same bar. Waited 5 minutes without as much as a "hello" or "I'll be right there" from her. She saw us come in. A "Bar-Back" came in behind this barmaid. He left, and she then stood at the corner of the bar "talking" (not waiting on) to her other patrons. This was a very slow evening with an otherwise empty bar room. We decided, I guess you don't need our money after all. You weren't that busy to at least acknowledge us! Adios! "It takes months to gain a customer, and only seconds...to lose one"
We went to get food at tumble 22 which is outside of their establishment that shares the same sitting area. After we ordered our food my wife and I and our 23-year-old daughter went to sit down and wait for food I was asked if I needed anything to drink so ordered a water with lemon obviously that did not make the staff happy shortly after another employee came in Id’d my daughter who again is 23 but did not have her wallet with her as we were just there to get food. We Told the employee that we were only there for a few more minutes until they called us to come get our food. We literally had to walk outside the gate to stand wait for our food . My issue is that when you were standing in line the lines are long so you’re actually having to cross the bar line which I guess is fine but if you’re sitting there to wait for your food it’s not the same thing the waitstaff could’ve been nicer to us and allowed us to sit there for a couple more minutes to get our food and then obviously he would leave. Again I think they get frustrated if somebody is sitting at one of the tables not paying for alcohol there was really very few people there and plenty of tables were open.
Was told my ID is fake because the light underneath made it yellow not white. Apparently plastic doesn’t age and apparently I’m not 29. First time any bar or bouncer has ever told me my ID is fake. Open for 30 years?
We decided to give it a try since it is one block from our resort. It is a big place but usually empty. Now we know why. We walked in for happy hour about 4pm on June 11th. The bartender was rude from the beginning. Ordered two frozen margaritas and a draft domestic. She says in a rude way, “ are you sure you are not going to want anymore frozens because I have to walk all of the way to the back.” Okay? $12 for about 5oz of frozen margarita!! Went to tab out and she charged us $6 for domestic when Happy Hour price stated $3 on the sign out front. We asked her and she argued with us that it wasn’t for drafts but bottles and that it clearly stated that on the sign. We said, “ no it does not.” We asked her to come look but she refused while continuing to be so rude. The place is a dud!!
All it takes is one staff member to ruin a good bar. I politely asked if the bartender would play Toby Keith - Courtesy of the Red White and blue, Considering this is Texas and we love country music here, and Toby Keith died earlier this year. I didn’t think it was very much to ask. A simple “No” would’ve been fine but rudely responding “ worst song of all time” is not how you talk to paying customers who keep a roof over your head. If your management can hold this bartender accountable, then this one star review will go away. He was working the back bar last night.
