If you need something to get you sorted out for the day, come here! The food is DELICIOUS and the prices don’t hurt our pockets- my friend and I split the Italian beef and it didn’t even need the au jus- we had to slurp up the juice from the sandwich beef itself, let alone dipping it in the au jus…. I’m honestly used to dry subs that I need to drench in mayo so this was a welcome surprise! The service was quick, the location was clean, and the staff were great! They all seemed to get along with each other and have a good flow. The person preparing our sandwich heard us make the order and got started right away, so we got our sandwich real quick! The staff gave us good recommendations when they saw us all looking at the menu for a while, and even the customers pitched in to tell us- they recommend the spicy Italian, but it seems you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose. This place seems to get a lot of repeat customers of all sorts, too- many people came in and were greeted by name, greeting the staff by name in return. They looked friendly and happy to be there, making idle chatter with the staff and even strangers like myself. One guy looked over at my Italian beef and said “great choice”!! Everyone’s food came out fast and was very tasty! The staff showed concern for my friend who was carsick as well, offering to get her water which we found to be very sweet. When I was asking our cashier about the soup of the day, he said he’d be happy to get me a little shot of it to try… it slipped both our minds for a few minutes but he went and got it for me anyway (which I was impressed he remembered, because the store was BUSY!) and when I tried the roasted red bell pepper soup I was hooked!! One of my fave soups EVER, just sad I wasn’t able to get myself a bowl because I had to catch a flight back home. Do yourself a favor and get a big ole sandwich, some chips (and/or a bowl of soup!!) and a lemon ginger soda. You can’t go wrong with anything here, my only regret was being too full to get myself more soup because WOW, that was one of the best soups I’ve ever tried. They’re killing it here, hope you give it a shot :)if I lived here I’d definitely become an instant regular!
Hands down Tucci’s is the best sub sandwich spot!!! Service is always, welcoming, friendly and attentive! Subs always has great quality and fresh ingredients, meats, cheeses and veggies!!
What a great sub! Ordered the 7-inch meatball on wheat through Doordash. The sub arrived hot, wrapped in butcher paper, so it didn't stain the bag like some other places. The sandwich was stuffed with spicy meatballs, small diced onions and hot peppers. The wheat bread is hearty and thick. The jalapeño chips are a brand I hadn't had before, Dirty's. They were kettle cooked and crunchy. Delicious! Will have to stop by in person next time.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would!!! The service was phenomenal, cashier was nice and informative about the menu & kind to every patron. My husband got the gourmet Italian sub and loved it, and I got the Cuban sandwhich and it was the BEST Cuban I’ve had, especially for Austin. I’d recommend and will be back plenty. Bathrooms clean, great food! Extreme compliments on the staff for their service
Loved this spot. A lot of repeat customers, overall warm vibe. The phili cheesesteak was good
I haven’t been to Tucci’s in a while, and my visit was awesome. They played great hip hop music, and the place was super clean and organized. The gentleman who took my order was probably the nicest guy I’ve ever met. He was super helpful and treated me like a friend. The sandwich was so good. I ordered the spicy Italian and it’s legit. Y’all, if you don’t know, now you know.
Best meatball sub I’ve had in years!! Staff was super chill and friendly and the place looked cool. Will be coming back and highly recommend anyone thinking of stopping here to do it.
Literally the best subs in Austin! I pick these up for myself and my coworkers at least once a week. They always are generous with the portions and the quality is amazing. The spicy Italian is my favorite and their hot pepper relish is sooooo good! Amazing food at reasonable prices but best for takeout as there's not much seating available.
Very kind man working the register and the line. Best sandwich ive had in ages. Looking forward to returning. It takes a short wait to make your sandwich, but its because of the effort and freshness they strive for.
I’ve been reviewing Italian subs for the past few months making the rounds from Home Slice Pizza, Little Deli and Pizzeria, Hoodies, Loudmouth, Pedroso’s, Grata's and Otherside Deli. Still gotta make it to Knuckle Sandwich, Handsome Dan’s and All Day Pizza. However, today was all about Tucci’s Southside Subs. Tucci’s customers are VERY loyal. Every time I have written about one of the aforementioned shops, and say something good, they chirp in “well you haven’t tried Tucci’s yet they are the best” [or insert a different platitude depending upon the day]. Seriously, I write about pastrami sandwiches and I get, “Hey Tucci’s pastrami is the bomb.” Do an article on Philly Cheesesteaks, “People from Philadelphia, say if Rocky could eat one cheesesteak outside of the city he would choose ours.” Or with their Hot Italian subs, “Tucci’s has one too and it is fire my dude.” Yeah, yeah, we get it you love the place. So how do they really taste? I decided to try three of their seven inch subs, the Gourmet Italian, the Pastrami (Reuben) and the Jalapeño Philly Cheesesteak. The Gourmet Italian comes with loaded with deluxe ham, capicola, Geno salami, prosciutto and provolone cheese; add tomato, lettuce, peppers and onions along with garlic mayo, oil & vinegar and oregano. To use their words, “It’s got big favors, we’re not messing around." I agree. The meats and cheese are folded on top of the veggies, with the prosciutto topping the sandwich. Visually, Tucci’s subs looked kind of small to me, but when you consider most full subs are a foot long, they are giving you and extra inch on a half sub. When you taste the sub, you don’t feel ripped off either. Their Gourmet Italian is a legit contender for one of the best in the city. The Jalapeño Philly Cheesesteak was next. They offer it with chicken or steak. Why you would choose chicken is beyond me. Wouldn’t that be a Philly Cheesechicken? I don’t think it exists, or shouldn’t exist. At least take off the Philly name if you order that. This is not an indictment of Tucci’s, others offer it too. Back to the sandwich. It’s a really good version of the Pennsylvania classic. The steak is finely chopped and is loaded up with onions mushrooms and green peppers. They put on both pepper jack and American cheese before topping it all with grilled jalapeños. I opted to hold the green peppers on my order. I added mayo because that’s what I like on my Phillys. I like the addition of the pepper jack combined with the jalapeños it gives the sandwich a little Texas heat. The Pastrami (Reuben) was last and was my least favorite. For those of you who read my reviews, you know I prefer a classic Jewish deli pastrami sandwich, sliced thin with Swiss Cheese and some mustard. Don’t forget the pickle spear. There was nothing wrong with Tucci’s pastrami, it had all the ingredients of a Reuben, but it’s just not the same on a sub roll. If you like Pastrami Subs, you will enjoy theirs. I do appreciate that they cut their Pastrami perfectly. Chris Kuykendall owns the Tucci’s Subs on William Cannon. He worked for Dave Tucci for 14 years as his manager before buying the store from Dave. Tucci’s other location on W. Highway 71 is still owned by Dave who founded the restaurant back in 2008. Chris said that consistency, good ingredients and a dedicated team have made the sub shop successful. “We have customers that appreciate knowing their favorite sub will be here when they return, make them the same way we have for almost two decades.” There are six tables to eat at in the small strip mall location. They were full the entire time I was there, turning over several times each. Take out business is booming too. Clearly, they have a following that knows they are a special treat in South Austin. #MattGoodEats.
So amazing!! Please consider CUCUMBER 🥒 slices. I got the veggie sandwich and I'm in love. Black olives, pickles and tomato on white bread. I first went to Mr.Gattis next door, and they refused to serve me because I wanted a customized order. Which prompted me to try you guys. I'm very happy that it happened that way. I'm a very picky person and hard to deal with and you guys got it right from the start and had me realizing that Mr. Gattis is just old and outdated now and old dogs set in there ways. I've been a loyal customer for 20+ years and I'm understanding that customer service is not big anymore from all the old places I used to go. You guys are the new generation of food and service. I don't compliment often. So this is a genuine review and opinion of my compliment. You had the best service and ingredients and attitude and the atmosphere was packed and busy. There's a reason you guys are busy!!
Incredible Italian subs. Staff were the most welcoming and friendly out of any restaurant I've been to in the Austin area. They explain the menu to new customers and are more than happy to answer any questions. Highly recommend this place for high quality sandwiches and great service.
Words can not express the greatness of the sandwiches served here. Our first experience included the full sized Jalapeño Philly and the Gourmet Italian on wheat. She said that's a lot of meat and she wasn't lying. This small sandwich shop blows away any and all others. The staff were friendly and helpful. My only complaint if you can call it, that is that they close at 7 pm during the week. Damn, I'm stuffed.
Hey, Tucci’s - Where’ve you been hiding?! I popped in today and ordered a Philly cheesesteak. I grew up in the Northeast and your sandwich today tasted like home. The folks you had working there were having a great time and the sandwich was out of this world. I’ll be back. If you’re passing by, pull in and treat yourself.
Visited 2Cheese recently and tried a roast beef sandwich with cheese and garlic mayo. The flavor itself was solid, but I ordered it warm and it came out cold, which was a bit disappointing. The portion size also felt small for the price, so that’s something I think could be improved. On the positive side, the order was ready fairly quickly. The person at the register did speak a bit fast, so it was hard to catch everything. It would be nice if the communication was a little clearer. Overall, decent flavor, but a few adjustments on temperature, portion size, and communication would make the experience much better.
Good tasting food, but is this shrink-flation? The wife and I wanted to split a large jalapeno philly and after tip, tax and service fee, no chips, no drink, pick-up NOT delivery, it was $30 and this is how both halves of our sandwich looked. 2" of bread with zero ingredients filling it. What a rip off.
I’m a huge fan of pastrami sandwiches. This is the picture of the pastrami sandwich they have on the wall, which is clearly sliced pastrami. After I took a bite of the sandwich, I noticed the bread was a bit soggy and I could barely taste the pastrami. I looked inside the sandwich and it had bits of shredded pastrami, which were very dry. I’ve had hundreds of pastrami sandwiches, and this was the first time I’ve seen shredded pastrami served in a restaurant. I asked the guy behind the counter if the pastrami was supposed to be shredded. He said yes. I asked why they show a picture of sliced pastrami if they use shredded pastrami. He said that’s just what they use. It was a hour before closing, so I thought maybe they just gave me what was left over. I was going to ask them to make something else, but dude just shrugged his shoulder. He reiterated that’s what they use. I tried adding some peppers to see if it would taste better. Nope. It just tasted like soggy bread and bits of something that had neither the taste nor texture of pastrami. I threw away the sandwich and left. I love hole-in-the-wall restaurants and had high hopes for Tucci’s.
