You dont usually go to a sushi place for a steak, but in my case, I sure as heck will. My wife loves seafood, so when it was her night to choose a place i had no option but to oblige. I was pleasantly surprised that this place served ribeye. I ordered the umi rib-eye steak, fried Brussels and gyoza. Wife had the crispy spicy shrimp and the tempura roll. Wife loved her order, it wasn't too spicy for her, just the right amount of spiciness and tang. The zucchini fritti was shared between me and the Wife, it was a good shareable, came with a tasty sauce dipping that was sweet and tangy as well. The gyoza was the best I have tasted so far from any establishment! It came fresh and hot, crisped to perfection! I will be comming here for the gyoza alone! Now what surprised me the most was how good the rib eye was! It was served to me medium rare like i had asked, the mushroom and rice brown wine sauce gave my ribeye a nice hint of sweetness to it while still being incredibly tender, the mushrooms and scallions went well with it, all accompanied with a side of buttery mashed potato and lightly salted and peppered grilled asparagus, for the price it was amazing! Im happy I was able to enjoy my food here as im not the biggest fan of seafood, it came as a pleasant surprise. The server was amazing and always attentive to us, i am happy to have been served by Nic 10/10 service!

I love their sushi! But also, 100% try that tempura dessert, you’ll be in bliss. Depending on the day and staff of course, the service will be a little slow, one time I asked for a to go box and I never got it on time before I had to leave haha. But my recent visit they handed it pronto! Either way, super nice people. (Cute date spot!! Really pretty. And a little chilly!)

We love coming to Umi. The food is delicious, vibe is great and staff is wonderful. Natalie did a wonderful job recommending items from the menu. It's one of my kids favorite places as well.

Big mama roll (as recommended by our waitress) was delicious, so was the sashimi and fried vegetables. The meat on the bento box was not my favorite, but was still edible. Creme brûlée was to die for. Service was friendly and attentive, atmosphere was also good.

Umi Sushi offers a quiet, relaxing atmosphere which is perfect for enjoying a meal without the usual hustle and bustle of busier spots. The sushi itself was absolutely amazing…fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The only downside was the miso soup, which tasted watered down and didn’t match the otherwise excellent quality of the meal. Overall, it’s a great spot for sushi lovers who appreciate a calm setting, with just a small room for improvement on the sides.

I was debating about giving Umi three stars or four stars, but ultimately gave it three mostly because the music was loud enough that it was not that pleasant to hang out there. The sushi is good, but the music makes you want to eat and run. The people working there were a little bit clueless about things that people in a sushi restaurant should know. I asked about a couple of types of sushi, not on the menu, and they did not know what they were, and then when I ordered salmon skin, I asked the waitress if they could put shiso and gobo in it. She said she had never heard of either one. Nonetheless, the restaurant actually had both, but the people taking the orders didn’t know what they were. That’s not so good. They also had real wasabi which the minority of sushi restaurants have and is much better than the fake wasabi, which is just horseradish with green food coloring. They have a bar, but the bar is especially loud, and another sushi bar, which is a little quieter. If they had not had a live DJ there, I think it probably would not have been as loud there.

Update: on most recent visit, some sushi wasn't that fresh and the service wasn't too good, so dropped a couple of stars. The HH prices and choices are still good options. The desserts, HH or not, have too much tempura. Service depends on who you get but I don't remember which one got my order wrong last time. I've never been there when it's busy, so it can't be the fast pace. And there was another who thinks all salmon are the same. I know it's not fine-dining but the servers should still know their menu.

Very disappointed in my experience. The rice for the sushi tasted very old and the fried sushi roll we received was fried for too long and was flavorless. As much as I hate to say it, I felt the sushi at HEB was better than the sushi we had at Umi. Will not be returning and cannot recommend

I was seated at 6:29 pm, it is a Wednesday evening with very light foot traffic, as far as saying it’s kind of dead, and it’s now 6:48 pm and I have yet to have my order taken. I came to dine in while I waited it to be time for my tattoo appointment, and it’s disappointing. I’m hungry, so I’ll place an order to go and update my review based on that timing and the sushi quality. Sushi was good, the special roll I ordered was amazing. The other 2 rolls were average. I want to note they wanted to charge me $9 for sauces, the size of which I provided a picture for which is bonkers. Service girl was super nice, I could tell she was running around, the business needs to do better.

I was excited to try this place since it’s close by my apartment, I booked an uber as I wanted to try the drinks and once we got in and sat down the bartender barley greeted us then proceeded to talk with her friends. We ordered our drinks and she seemed annoyed at the fact that we were even talking to her. I see other reviews with the exact same feedback and I have a feeling it’s the same bartender unless all of them treat new people terribly.

Honestly you’re better off picking up sushi from HEB, HEB would be higher quality. Ordered two rolls and the salmon teriyaki plate. Salmon was a tiny portion and super dry. The fish on one of the rolls I ordered was a little slimy so much so that I didn’t eat it out of food safety concerns. This place has gone downhill.

I had planned out an entire date night for me and my boyfriend and our last stop was here to get drinks. I told him how much I loved the place since I first came with some friends a few days ago and this experience changed my opinion completely. We wanted to relax and have a couple of drinks and as soon as we sat down I could tell we were not welcomed. We showed her our IDs and immediately were told "what do you want", the tone was a bit rude but I decided to ignore it but as time went one and we ordered our second drink I noticed other people were getting hugs and warm welcomes while we just got met with the same tone like we were bothering her being there. I don't think I will ever come back or recommend this place again but I will say the DJs they have there are absolutely AMAZING and I will miss hearing them play :(
