I actually fell for it the first time I paid for an appointment. The second time, following the advice of the consulate employee who told me not to do it on my phone but on the computer 🖥️, which is much easier, and that I should register before 2 PM, I did. When the appointment calendar opened at 2 PM, there were tons to choose from. REMEMBER: Mobile bookings give an error.
The users service is very good and the procedures are in hands of very supportive and competent staff. Good to have Colombian professionals helping fellow citizens.
the consulate was efficient and fast in processing what I requested.
Very smooth functioning consulate. I experienced a quick response rate and streamlined operations here.
Communicating by phone is impossible. They have phone numbers that always say they're unavailable or don't exist. I travel all the way to the consulate in Barcelona, an hour and a half from where I live, to request and clarify passport information, and the security guard at the door knows absolutely everything and gives you his information but won't let you go up to speak directly with someone. The appointment system is chaotic. I need to renew my passport for an urgent trip, but of course I don't have a medical certificate (it's an urgent family matter, but my mother won't provide one; she'll give me a note saying I have to go). So they tell me that of course I can request the passport, but they won't give it to me urgently; I have to wait 10 days. This happened even after I explained that I managed to get an appointment for the day before my trip. Their solution for traveling without a passport is to do it in Colombia, and if you don't have time to do it when you leave, pay a fine of 4,000,000 pesos. (Of course, I don't have time to do it because I'm only traveling for 8 days, including the weekend.) And if not, I should postpone the trip until I have my passport. All that advice from the friendly security guard who thinks he owns the consulate. Awful. To get it then, I'd have to resort to a fake letter or document, maybe even paying someone in Colombia to write it for me so they can give it to me the same day. It seems we're still stuck with red tape and influence peddling or lies to get a document. I don't think anyone would invent a trip from one day to the next just for fun. Anyway, the consulate is terrible. Oh, and if I haven't been able to speak to anyone, I should send an email and the consul will reply. Well, I'll have the pleasure of a consul replying to my email directly.
Making an appointment is a nightmare. We went to the consulate in person because it was impossible to get one online. We couldn't even get past the door because they told us we had to book an appointment online, and you can only book appointments between 2 and 3 pm. So, we spent an entire hour glued to our phones and computers trying to get an appointment, and nothing. The website only goes as far as the "enlarge appointment" screen, and when you click there, it redirects you to another screen that says "APPOINTMENT SCHEDULING SYSTEM," where all you see is more text indicating that they are open Monday to Friday from 2 to 3 pm. It was 2 pm sharp when we started entering the information, and still nothing. This is madness and a disgrace. They should only be able to serve people without an appointment for things like obtaining a sworn statement.
The service at this consulate is pathetic. I arrived at the door at 1:30 pm to register my ID card to vote, and they denied me entry because at that hour they could only receive documents. It's understandable that the staff finish their shift at 2 pm (they're not going to get paid overtime), but they could at least clearly state the closing time. As if the terrible service weren't enough, getting an appointment to renew a passport is the biggest ordeal for a Colombian in Barcelona. I was without a passport for eight months, and when I finally managed to get an appointment, I suffered the disastrous treatment from the staff. They treat you like they're doing you a favor, not like it's their job. If they're not willing to provide adequate customer service, they shouldn't forget that Barcelona is full of Colombians who could do a messenger job and deserve those positions much more.
The WORST!! The level of mediocrity at this consulate is unsurpassed! The only way to request an appointment is through a POORLY DESIGNED website. After wasting so much time, you reach a point where it's IMPOSSIBLE to get an appointment! (You have to take a photo, you have to wait for some codes, and then in the end, there are no appointments available) It's a total joke! If they don't know how to design websites, then DON'T LIMIT US to that single option and make things easier, because being in another country isn't easy enough!!!
I need to know how many days off I need to have to schedule an appointment to renew my passport. I've tried countless times to get an appointment, and it always ends up being impossible. The bureaucracy in this country is inefficient, and the service is unreliable because there's nowhere to turn; they don't give you any answers. The lack of empathy makes us feel let down by the incompetence of these officials who do nothing to help us. I urgently need my passport, and when I write to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they don't respond at all.
After driving 7 hours to get to Barcelona, taking two days off work, and paying for a hotel and travel expenses to complete a procedure (specifically a residency certificate) for which I consulted the Consulate via email and following the guidelines on their official website, I WAS SENT HOME BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. No one took responsibility for the erroneous communications sent by the consulate. They wouldn't even let me into their offices. They didn't even offer an alternative after I explained their mistake and all the effort I made to get there. After explaining the urgency of this document in Colombia. It's quite sad. I don't know if this can be reported. I would appreciate any way to file a complaint. I've attached evidence of the incorrect information they provide to citizens and then refuse to take responsibility for. It clearly states in red that an appointment is not required, but the security guard showed me a slip of paper taped to the door that said an appointment was. As if everyone could just walk up to that door to check the requirements.
I had to go three days in a row to pay for a document that couldn't be paid online; they insisted there was no other way. When I finally proved they were entitled to the payment, the person who helped me threatened me, saying, "It's up to me whether I pay this here or have to go to Colombia, so relax." Terrible service. Three QR codes for the same procedure, three different people to help me, three days for such a simple process! And a mediocre attitude; the only decent person was the security guard at the entrance. A little humility and empathy for the migrant's situation, a little kindness and efficiency would be appreciated.
Good afternoon, I am deeply sorry to have to post something like this, but the situation is both intolerable and worrying. I don't know about you as a consulate, but for us as users, the service is quite questionable. I think you've forgotten the reason you exist, which is to provide service and assistance to citizens who are abroad, and you should be acting as a liaison. Having said that, I would like to state the following: 1. It is impossible to change the age of someone over 65 to 70 years old; what are you trying to achieve with this? People of this age—and I'm not saying all of them—lack certain skills, both when it comes to scheduling appointments and using the tools you consider so useful and practical. 2. Do you know (and I'm convinced you do) that there's a mafia behind the appointment bookings? Do you know that there are people selling these appointments, and that people like me, who find this digital age quite difficult, can never get an appointment unless we end up falling into the hands of these unscrupulous people who are trying to profit at the expense of people like me? 3. And last but not least, today, November 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:10 PM, three of us tried to access one of these appointments, and the page never loaded, making it even harder for us to get an appointment to renew our passports—a service that, by the way, isn't free. Furthermore, how are we supposed to get back this time we've invested, which you clearly don't care about? This is simply a question for you to question such an excellent service to the public. I would appreciate it if you would please take the trouble to provide assistance to everyone, and try to find a solution so that everyone can access your services.
Victims of the armed conflict in Colombia are being revictimized. People travel from distant villages to request a displaced person's certificate, only to be told they must return another day simply because the consulate says they are not open today, without any official announcement regarding which days they will be available. When people request to speak with the consular official, they are denied entry to present their grievances. Where is the management? Where is the governance of the Colombian government that allows these individuals to act with impunity in these consulates?
Getting an appointment is quite an ordeal. I work very far from Barcelona, about an hour and a half away. I resorted to doing a procedure on a Saturday when the consulate was open. I arrived as early as possible and requested entry for a procedure without an appointment, such as a power of attorney to claim my pension. I waited in line, entered, and then queued on the floor again (no big deal). They asked for my ID and gave me the payment receipt. Due to some issue with the power of attorney, I had to leave the consulate and edit it (in an unexpected place, at the hands of a very nice lady from a stationery store) after so much trouble. I returned to the consulate to finish the procedure, and the receptionist greeted me with a bad-cop look, telling me I didn't have an appointment. "Oh??" after having paid and started the procedure! Well, I had to explain the whole thing to him, and even then he didn't budge. And finally, as if it were a big deal, they gave me a shift 10 spots later, letting 10 people who arrived after me pass! I'll tell you how I felt like I was back home. In all my time in Spain, I've never received such treatment in the offices of this country. It's because of things like this that our country doesn't prosper! And that's why I don't miss it. How sad! There's no empathy or consideration on the part of the officials!
I've waited in line four times. After waiting for hours, the first time they told me it was after hours (it wasn't 1 p.m.), the second time they told me the official wasn't there. How is this possible? The third time they finally accepted my payment but not my documents, and here I am for a fourth time. The negligence and ineffectiveness of the officials is incredible. Not to mention the location is unsuitable, and lines outside on the street (in sun or rain) can take hours. Hours and payments were lost for procedures that are never processed on time. Someone should do something about this; this is disrespectful in every way possible.
Nonody picks up the phone ever. In the working time
This is quite possibly the worst embassy-consulate in the world for trying to renew a Colombian passport. It's a daily scramble to grab one of the few appointments, and in four months, I've never been fast enough to secure a time slot when they go live at 14:00 (actually, a few minutes after since they're never on time). We've gone to the Consulate twice to ask for help, told it had to be online, but heard a person in line complaining about how they'd been waiting in line ALL DAY long WITH an appointment. It's just burutal.
One word “ incompetent”
Literally impossible to make an appointment. You have to do it online, but every time you fill out the whole buggy form, surprise! No appointments. You try again, same message. You call them, nobody answers. You go to the consulate itself and you’re told to go home and try again, “it will happen”. Appointments come out every Friday at 5pm she says. 16:59, none. 17:00, none. 17:01, none. We just need a passport.
