Esperienza stellare!! Stasera ho cenato presso questo ristorante tutto perfetto! Nonostante un orario fuori lavoro il personale ci ha accolto in modo impeccabile , offrendoci piatti paradisiaci malgrado la cucina fosse in standby dato l'orario molto tardivo a causa di un disguido. Da ritornare, consigliato!

Niente da dire negativo. Un posto elegante, con un ottimo servizio. Complimenti al chef , per abbinamenti , non pensavo che il pesce e pecorino faranno un ' armonia del genere. Eravamo solo noi due e tutto il locale era per noi, con musica natalizia, servizio di altezza e piatti squisiti. Non aspettavo i piatti così abbondanti, che molti molti ristoranti adesso riducono la quantità, a volte ad avere il piatto misero. Qui ingredienti di valore e non ai risparmia sulla quantità. Anche per il caffe non ti portano una sola bustina del zucchero ma intera vaschetta con lo zucchero a scelta. Un complimento all' inizio del pranzo e un biscottino per il caffè, anche se non ordini il dolce sono altri particolari che mettono il SottoSopra tra i posti da provare. Grazie ci avete fatto fare una vera esperienza culinaria. Ho letto recensioni del alto prezzo , sì, non è un ristorante ecinomico , ma è un ristorante da esperienza, da festa, da occasione speciale. Da tornare in assoluto .

We can very much recommend Sottosopra. We went there for dinner and have been lucky to get a table at the balcony. They offer a la carte, or fix Menü (3 courses or 6 courses). Food and service are excellent. Italian atmosphere for free!

December 2024, winter in Baveno, most restaurants are closed. Here we are, a couple from Florida, United States freezing our butts off wandering around the empty Baveno town and plaza at around 7 o clock at night trying to find ANY restaurant that’s open. We were the only two people out on this cold dark winter day. We had just made it into town from an extensive travel day on train from Switzerland and had just checked into our Airbnb. After calling numerous restaurants, Sottosopra answered with a friendly Spanish woman’s voice and invited us in. Walking in, we were the only two customers that night. I was amazed and surprised they were attending us. The customer service the Spanish waitress provided for us the entire night was superb. She was so kind, authentic and deeply passionate about the food she was serving us. We spoke briefly about the importance of food culture in both Italy and Spain. She recommended an excellent red wine to accompany our meal. The food was the best meal we had in Europe after our 2 week stay across different countries. The chef surprised us with Parmesan ice cream… it was MIND BLOWING. The red wine braised octopus was bursting with umami and it was served pillowy clouds of potatoes. My boyfriend ordered a rabbit bolognese which was out of this world and we ended the meal with a chocolate cake and some homemade limoncello. If this entire gorgeous spread of food, accidentally private dining experience and an entire bottle of red wine didn’t warm our souls, certainly the great hospitality of our waitress and chef and staff did. Thank you so much to Sottosopra for this unexpected but oh so memorable meal and night. It was a highlight and best ending to our European winter trip. Thank you!

The food is excellent, but the best of this restaurant is the service. We with the family love sotto sopra for the amazing service, always with a smile! The waiter Igor is a passionate man who is always in for a laugh, and the girl with glasses also provides amazing service. The food shows the expertise of the high skilled cooks in the kitchen, and there is something for everyone. High variety in the menu - fish, meat, and vegetarian. You do have to make a reservation a couple days in advance, but it’s 100% definitely worth it!

Very good restaurant, good food and good service. Reservation is recommended. We would also recommend to take a starter and something sweet after the main dish. It is definitely worth it. On our next trip to Lago Maggiore we will definitely come back to visit this restaurant.

We booked a table a day in advance and were very glad we did. The food here was delicious, with a very interesting and original menu. The waiters could speak English but one very kindly helped us with our Italian learning too! The staff were very passionate about the food and the local area. We loved our meal here and we loved staying in Baveno as a more relaxed atmosphere compared to some of the larger towns.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. English was spoken. If you have intollerances be sure to raise it. They showed me a list of menu options and what they contained. Food was delicious and restaurant was clean. There was a good range of menu options. I will return during my next visit.

Pranzo una domenica di febbraio in due, locale praticamente pieno, circa 25 coperti. Un antipastomdimpesce, un primo, una frittura, due dolci, un calice di vino. Qualità e presentazione dei piatti ottima, forse il personale non troppo comunicativo,a il servizio comunque più che discreto. I prezzi sono a mio avviso più che adeguati al locale ed alla qualità.

Cena molto buona in un locale particolare, menù italiano tipico del posto, alcune ricette della tradizione leggermente rivisitate. Piatti esteticamente molto belli e curati, anche buoni. Il primo torchio con ragù di pesce è peperoncino poteva essere più buono se ci fosse stato un po di pesce. 0er il resto tutto buono. Personale disponibilissimo e gentile. Prezzi in linea con la zona.

Le pietanze ed il servizio sono stati eccellenti, ma la quinta stella non posso assegnarla per la mancata corrispondenza tra la descrizione del ristorante e l'offerta del menù: la scelta sul pesce - a dispetto della descrizione - è molto limitata in favore dei piatti tipici della cucina italiana, inoltre i prezzi aggiornati ad oggi (6.5.2024) sono al di sopra della media della zona e molto diversi dal passato e in generale il Sottosopra si rivolge a clienti raffinati ed in grado di degustare le pietanze celate dietro a un menù apparentemente turistico (basti pensare alla degustazione visibile esternamente in lavagna che non propone pesce di lago bensì piatti classici di terra) Di rilievo il fatto che ogni piatto venga presentato alla vista ed al gusto in maniera estremamente particolare e raffinata, per veri intenditori! Lascio le poche foto scattate: portata di benvenuto, antipasto, primo (canederli) e selezione di sorbetti per un totale a persona di circa 47€ (comprensivo di acqua, vino e coperto)

Ho conosciuto questo ristorante molto carino grazie a una serata organizzata dalla Accademia della cucina italiana il menù ha avuto il tema de il pesce di lago ... e devo dire che ho gradito tutte le portate... abbondante il dolce che ho fatto fatica a finirlo (non potevo lasciarlo nel piatto).

Very pleasant front of house. We sat at the terrace and the atmosphere was lovely, although we questioned plastic chairs, as it did not match the quality of food. Bel locale, qualità e presentazione dei piatti davvero ottima, MA... l'impostazione e il contenuto menù è a livello di trappola per turisti, assolutamente fuori luogo per il tono ricercato che si vuole dare il locale (che , invece, sicuramente si dà a livello di prezzi). All'esterno del locale c'è una invitante lavagna che annuncia un menù del giorno a 28€. Considerate le recensioni positive e le belle foto dei piatti, si decide di provare. Surprise surprise, una volta dentro, si scopre che "le proposte dello chef" sono: pasta al ragù e milanese con le patatine!!! Ma scherziamo? Per confronto, con la stessa cifra, in un qualsiasi ristorante sull'Isola dei Pescatori hai un menù di due portate con pescato del giorno (e mangi in terrazza in riva al lago). Non dico che col menù "turistico" si possa pretendere chissà che cosa, ma da un ristorante con la porta costellata di adesivi della guida Michelin ci si aspetterebbe qualcosa di più ricercato del "menù bambini" di tutti i ristoranti d'Italia. Il resto del menù è generalmente caro. Non tantissima la scelta, quasi nessuna proposta di pesce di lago. Attenzione: nel menù non sono riuscito a trovare da nessuna parte, indicazione del costo dell'acqua, delle altre bevande che non fossero vini, o del caffè. Solo sul conto ho scoperto che la normalissima bottiglia da 0,75l di naturale costava ben 4€! Mi sembra un po' tantino, visto che non stiamo parlando di acqua con particolari proprietà miracolose. Alla fine il conto, con due antipasti, due primi, un dolce, una bottiglia d'acqua e una mezza bottiglia di rosso ha sfiorato i 100€. Ribadisco: tutto buonissimo, ma il retrogusto che rimane, alla fine, è quello di essere stati presi in giro. Purtroppo non posso consigliarlo.

Disappointed with this one. Especially for the service which was very slow. I had some ravioli dish that was not special, and I don't recall what the rest of my party had as no one seemed thrilled. Prepare for mosquitos when dining outside. The outside furniture was low budget.

Once food was delivered to table, waiter did not return until 15 minutes or more after we finished eating, no offer to fill drinks, if we liked it or see if we needed anything. Asked about dessert, but we did not want any. Waited another 15+ minutes watching him wait on rest of tables in our little room, but not us. Finally we requested bill, so he then picked up most of our plates but asked one of the ladies at our table to hand him hers. She did and then he asked for her silverware too. Apparently it was too much for him to go around our small table to do it himself. Not what I expected from a restaurant of this caliber.

My daughter and I ate here on a Sunday after spending 5 days in Baveno. We were so disappointed with our experience. We noted upon arrival that there were several large parties and later we came to realize it would affect our evening. It took 15 min to get a glass of water. Another 10 to take our order and I finally reminded the waiter I was still waiting for our wine. In fairness the wait staff only 2 of them were working furiously on these other tables…the restaurant was busy. We ordered the cheese in filo and the prawns to start . We thought the starters were fine…especially the prawns. Next came my daughter’s ravioli and my filet of sole. We were both disappointed and didn’t eat. A rare occasion for us! We did not order dessert but rather chose to return to Hotel Dino’s Last Hall restaurant for their Tiramisu and a glass of wine as we needed something to “lift us up” from our disappointing evening….highly recommend that!
