Love this place for so many years. Normally restaurants which offer so many dishes like this would be hit and miss, but I’ve been trying so many different dishes throughout the years and they are all delicious, very authentic. I love their crispy egg noodles the most. And can’t finish the meal without their infamous lava toast.

Mein continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Chinatown, and definitely my go-to for Cantonese food. The food is fantastic, prices are very reasonable, and the ambiance is nice. We always have to order the char kway teow (it's so good), and usually the XO fish, but also enjoy trying something else new every time, since the menu is huge. Sometimes there can be a wait for a table, but it's always worth it since it never disappoints!

From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for a treat. We were seated almost as quickly as we could say 'XO Fish Filet,' and the team was on point all night. Our server was like a service ninja—refilling water, keeping our rice coming, and nailing recommendations. The service? Flawless. Even better than the service was the food. We dove into the XO Fish Filet, Shaking Chicken, and Charsui beef. That Charsui beef? A game-changer. And every dish hit the spot. For dessert, we went big with the Lava Toast. Imagine French toast on steroids—Texas toast smothered in buttery goodness and stuffed with creamy egg custard. Don't miss out on this unique treat. As a business owner, I can appreciate an operation that runs smoothly, and this place has it down to a science. Even though it was packed, the staff never missed a beat, and we were checked on often. The owner and head chef was ensuring everyone was as happy with their meals as we were. A top tier organization. One minor suggestion, though: as a serious rice lover, I would have liked to see bigger portions of rice—unlimited rice is fantastic, but after 4 rounds of rice just for myself, the waiters legs were getting tired from running back and forth! P.S. Bonus points for tables ready to chopsticks. They get us.

My trip down Bellaire this evening brought me to Mein and boy it was a great experience. I got there at about 6:00pm and it was already busy but we were seated immediately. The decor and theme I gotta say was picked out nicely. Lots of metal hardware and hardy wood placed throughout the room. Very cool lighting and paintings placed on the walls The restaurant is an open floor plan so it is very noisy. I would say the biggest drawback to the ambience is the chatter and busyness to it all. Not a great a sit down with candlelight and have a conversations kind of outing but nonetheless there were lots of couples there. The service was among some of the best as they were on their game tonight it seemed. Food was prepared and delivered quickly and with great presentation. I was a little disappointed with the rice portioning. Not sure if it was because the scoop was small but I eat a lot of rice and ordered 4 rice servers just for myself. See photo below for details. If you like rice served with your dishes, order lots of side rices. The plates we ordered were XO Fish Filet, Shaking Chicken, Charsui, and Lava Toast. the XO was better prepared than most other restaurants as the breaded fish was not overly cooked and breaded. The Charsui was my favorite of the night and was delicious. Recommend this dish. It is more of an appetizer portion size but the Shaking chicken was a great contrast between the two. Overall, wonderful flavor and great service! Would recommend!

Awesome food. We love the shaking tofu, and salt pepper squid. Great food is matched with great service. Drinks were refilled when needed and our server made sure our orders came out good.

A wonderfully delicious Cantonese style restaurant. They have an impressive menu selection to satisfy most needs. The food came out extremely fast and did not lack in quality or quantity. The hand pulled chicken was the absolute star of the show. The staff was very nice and service was great. My only warning is that this place fills up QUICK. Plan to come early, or prepare for a wait to be seated. Still, it was very much worth the experience! EDIT: I finally got to try their Vietnamese style wonton noodle soup. Seriously, don't sleep on this dish. Best noodle soup I've had in years!

Space - this place was set up in a really nice way, and the whole place smells really good. The place was not too packed, although we did come a bit late for lunch and it was on a weekday. The bathrooms are clean and have multiple stalls. Toilet paper was there. Service - the waiter was really friendly and was helpful in explaining with dishes were the closest to what we wanted. Food - the prices are reasonable, most dishes were around 13 dollars. We ordered the vegetable fried rice, and it was pretty good. We are a family of four and we shared which was perfect, so you can imagine the portions. The egg tofu we ordered was simply amazing. The texture was perfect and the sauce went really well. We asked for stir fried cabbage which most restaurants have, but they didn't. OUR waiter suggested a similar dish and it was perfect. The general tso chicken was amazing as well, although the portions were a bit much. All in all, great food.

It was a positive experience with consistently good food over the past five years. However, two issues prevent it from earning a full five star rating. First, hygiene concerns arise because the staff member responsible for cleaning tables appears inadequately trained. They handle multiple items like table spray, chairs, and utensils with the same hands without gloves. A server handles a bowl of soup like picking a tennis ball. Second, the timing of the food was inconsistent: three dishes arrived sporadically upfront, but the fourth dish was served much later, along with the appetizer. Hope they improve.

Will say food was very food however didn't come out timing wise well. 2 main dishes were fished fully by the time last main dish came. Still tasted well. One big negative was very loud in restaurant. Do know if by 6pm, it can be busy so maybe show up early or reserve.

The food was all cooked to perfection, and it was so fresh and flavorful. They were helpful on what to get on the menu I order take out the salt and pepper calamari/squid and Char Kuey Teow it was so good just wish they had a sauce for Squid the atmosphere was cool I’ll definitely return

I frequent this area and this place was on my list! We were seated quickly and our food was ready in no time! Nice ambiance, friendly staff, we ordered a few of the popular dishes and here are my thoughts on the food. - firecracker chicken lacked a little bit of flavor and chicken texture was a bit too chewy - Drunkin noodles were cooked to perfection and had lots of flavor. This was my favorite - chicken fried rice …. Was just okay - Lava toast was VERY yummy

Celebrated a birthday dinner here this evening. Staff was not aware of our large party reservation. The kitchen was behind and our plates came out at different times. The most offensive thing was service. A member of our party had a gluten free dietary restriction. The best option that was offered was full price garlic broccoli steamed (no seasoning or garlic). When asked if protein could be cooked separately without sauce, we were informed the manager said no. We had to ask for salt and pepper shakers, spoons, and additional plates and utensils after appetizers. At no point during our dining experience did the manager come out to introduce themselves or make sure everything was okay. I will say our server was great and tried her best to ensure her tip was worth it. Thanks to her.

Lot of MSG and in spite of me asking for not adding msg in my dish (Shaking Tofu), they refused saying it’s their policy to ass msg to all dishes. Strange. Wondering when did it become “policy” to add an ingredient like msg in food preparation. All otherwise food is tasty but I couldn’t finish, so I don’t take that ingredient which causes heart palpitations for me.

I’ve always really enjoyed this restaurant, which makes this review tough to write. The food and service have been consistently excellent, and I’ve recommended it to many friends. However, today I found a roach in my food…It was obviously alarming and unacceptable. The staff was polite, but this is a serious health concern that needs immediate attention from management. I genuinely hope they address the issue quickly and it is a rare occurrence. Ew!
