The food was really good however I will recommend the Quesabirria tacos they are by far the best ones I’ve ever had! the enchiladas verdes were good too, we are definitely coming back! the only thing I didn’t like was the Piña colada it tasted like sprite really bitter and I told the waitress but didn’t fix it, besides that everything good! 10/10

Don Carlos exceeded my expectations in every way! The restaurant ambiance was inviting, the menu offered a diverse array of delicious options, and the service was impeccable. From start to finish, it was a delightful dining experience. I can't wait to return and savor more of their fantastic dishes!

We eat there about twice a week. The service is always good and the food is hot and fresh. Can't beat 3 Enchiladas for $9.95. You choice carnitas(my favorite) shredded chicken or ground beef. They have hands down the best chips and salsa. You get free queso at lunch till 3pm. Definitely worth the trip to the Eastside.

Went on a Saturday Afternoon about 12... We had a table of at least 14 people. The servers where attentive and split the bills correctly.. Which was a pleasant surprise.. The food came out at the same time and was pretty good. Will go back..

Best queso in Houston hands down. This is the original location. Good food and good prices. The quesadillas are probably my favorite go to dish. I like the menudo too.

Stopped in on Valentines night around 7:30pm & surprisingly quickly seated. Chips & Salsa always FIRE! Chips are always warme & fresh and crispy. It's the thin ones that can only hold salsa cause anything heavier they'll break.🥰 Had queso & App Mixto, we were meeting for drinks before a show. Very delicious and well plated. I love the fried queso Panela! Cristal the server was very friendly and accommodating when we requested to move from table by kitchen, didn't realize how warm it'd be. She politely said yes, we asked to stay in her section. Ordered a round of margaritas with tajin. Margaritas are perfect! Not too crazy like Tia Maria's but tasty and just right where 2 is enough. Karaoke was a good vibe! Great dinner will definitely return.

We first discovered Don Carlos in Waco Texas. We loved this location and were heartbroken when it closed. They had great food and great service until they closed. We decided to try one of the locations in Houston. We called in a to go order and had a very difficult time ordering due to a language barrier. The food was not as good as the Waco location and the restaurant was not as nice. This location was much older and not as well-maintained. It is still good food and worth the money.

This post was long overdue because Don Carlos is one of my longtime favorite Mexican Restaurants located where I grew up. The food is usually on point and the margaritas are so good! I had the grilled beef fajitadilla with rice and beans. Friends had the flautas, grilled fajitas, fish tacos, menudo and nachos. We ate well! This restaurant holds many food memories. It’s the place you go to before or after church, shopping, studying and simply showing up for life. It’s the perfect friend hangout. Our group has our special table and the staff knows many of us. I came alone after an exhausting 13 hr shift. I ordered what I really needed to detox from my day= fajita nachos and a specialty beverage. For almost 30$ the nachos had good presentation but could have had more fajitas. The blackberry mojito was what the nurse ordered! Delicious! So the service… SMH. I was basically ignored. I was alone and in all black- my work scrubs- so what! I looked unimportant? I will assume. Had to get the host to get my second drink a house rita- no complaints and just 7$. But for the price I expect some acknowledgement. Y’all decide . And I refused to order my son to go food as promised….y final

This place is amazing. The portions are pretty big for the price. So you'll have left over. It almost has a bunch of options on the menu as well. Definitely not TexMex. Also, they give 50% off for the military 🪖. The environment is very festive and clean. The servers are very nice and on point. They came by and checked our table many times and only communicated with us as needed. I can tell that the staff is very professional because there are multiple people bussing the tables at one time. Keeping everything clean and orderly. 3-31-2023 update --- we went back here on our way to Mississippi and stopped here for dinner. The first time the food and service was great. This time around the the tacos (meat) we ordered was bitter and it was not tasty. Also they did NOT give us the military discount that was advertised. There is a GIANT poster at the door that says 50% off for military people but this discount was not received the second time around. We're not sure why. If they are not giving out the discount then the advertisement should be taken down. It is false advertisement. So I have decreased from 5 stars to 3 stars the rating as average. Our server was nice, she remembered us from last time. Minus one star for having false poster at the door about the military discount. And the minus one star for the food.

First time here and didn't think much of the food or the margaritas. I wouldn't say I recommend. Just another over priced \nTex-Mex joint.

Went for my son's birthday and ordered a torta with only mayo and beef fajita, sorry but that's how I eat mine. Waiter came it had cheese, which is the one I had ordered to go, so he took it back waited 15 minutes for torta while my fries were actually already delivered so I ate those. Torta comes has cheese on it again so I just tell waiter that it's ok and just to bring me some mayo. He leaves never comes back with mayo. So I asked waitress for a to go box and just brought it home to eat here. Ridiculous

⭐️⭐️ 2/5 – Not what it used to be I’ve been coming to Don Carlos since around 2016, and unfortunately, it’s just not the same anymore. The food is alright, but there’s definitely room for improvement. When I order guacamole, I expect guacamole — not a pile of lettuce underneath. I get that they’re aiming for a nice presentation, but when presentation overshadows the actual dish, it misses the point. We ordered the parrillada, and while the portion was decent, the chicken was dry, the beef poorly cut, and the flavors just weren’t there. The charro beans were heavily seasoned to the point where all I could taste were cloves and cumin instead of enjoying the beans themselves. The flour tortillas are homemade, which I appreciate, but they’re too thick and get hard pretty quickly. To be fair, I’ll say this — the chips and salsa were excellent, the rice was flavorful, and the customer service was great. I really wish the food had matched that same level of quality.
