This place is amazing. They do goat or red meats the best, this is their specialty. Try it, someday! And be respectful of the noise levels and the area :) (the locals know, haha) By the way, I noticed the rice salt, the chai taste, the details to preserve history and culture + seasons are immaculate!

Yes, of course you can get a fresh and perfectly flaky and beautifully stuffed samosa… why stop there? Order the goat tikka masala! Or goat biryani! Or any number of chicken, lam and veggie options. This location is the newest and it’s perfect! BTW I live in East Oakland, trust me, it’s worth driving into Berkeley
I'm so happy House of Curries moved to my neighborhood! It's my favorite indian & Pakistani place. The new location has lots of outdoor seating, and it's own parking lot!
We came here on a rainy day and COVID restrictions we barely lightening up. They allowed us to eat outdoors on their patio that had room for 6. The owner even came out and lit the gas heater for us on this chilly eve. We ordered about 6 dishes for 5 of us and came home with way more than we hoped. The different curries and roasted chicken and sheesh kabobs were amazing. I do wish they had the lamb kabobs or ground meat. It was filled with spices and veggies, so it was scrumptious nonetheless! Very pleasant Sunday evening experience. Price was lower than I expected. Probably due to being so close to campus. Btw, nice change from being at the typical places on Telegraph Ave.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I celebrate my sister's birthday and we absolutely love House of Curries on College Avenue! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly spiced you can tell they use quality ingredients. The butter chicken is creamy and delicious, the naan is warm and fluffy, and the portions are generous. The staff is friendly, attentive, and makes you feel welcome every time. The cozy atmosphere is perfect for a casual lunch or dinner, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving authentic, comforting Curries!

(Disclosure) We enjoy Indian food but are not Indian. This place is unique (half self serve/half sit down). Orders are taken at the counter. For dine in orders, you self serve the plates, utensils, water and napkins. Dont forget the free chai. Main dishes are served table side. Payments are made at the cashier.
The flavors of this place are decent. The prices are better. The ambiance is great. There's lots of tables and seating. The customer service is really nice. I came with kids and they brought kid friendly cups of mango lassi for us. It was a great place to stop on college ave. They forgot two things from our order and I couldn't tell if they charged us but because they didnt give and itemized receipt but ..you know ... I'll be back. A great place to have lunch or dinner. The Malai kofta was such a treat. Oh apparently they have mozzarella stuffed naan lol. Yum
loved the staff, so friendly and accommodating. The food was pretty good. Not the best indian food i’ve ever had so probably wouldn’t specifically return but I wouldn’t mind eating here again as it was good. Lots of siting space and many options.
Really straight forward Desi food mix of tikkas, karahi and tandooris, and obviously biryani and naan. You get your own plates, utensils and glasses from the front. They also have complimentary chai at the front which you can help yourself to. We ordered chicken biryani and Tikka which did the job for us, though I wish it was a tad bit spicier. Great for people who like milder Indian food.
House of Curries on college ave was a nice change to my lunch routine. It wasn't crowded at 1:30 but there were a few other people in the restaurant. Service was quick and easy. It's kind of self service. As in you get your own utensils, water/tea, napkins, as well as your own togo stuff. They bring out the food for you. I liked this concept because it felt pretty convenient not having to wait for someone to bring me what I want. The butter chicken was just ok but the goat vindaloo was pretty good with the garlic naan. My favorite thing there was the mango lassi, it's simple and delicious. The pickles were a touch sour, I wish I had ordered some biryani to eat it with but it would've been too much food. I'll probably get it the next time I'm back.
A local favorite for curries in the busy retail area of Elmwood. Curries can be accompanied with fragrant rice or naan.
Pretty okay good here. Ordered a chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and a regular naan. The food came out piping hot and smelling so good. The garlic naan was tasty but could have used a bit more salt to enhance the taste. There chicken masala sauce was good but the chicken was kind of tasteless. It was basically just a hunk of meat in the tasty sauce.

Dine in or take out casual environment complimentary chai tea. Friendly owner a little pricey.
had a wonderful experience with cashier Ali Bhai. He is very kind, polite, and always ready to help customers with a smile. His helpful nature and respectful behavior make eating here a pleasant experience. Truly an excellent staff member with a very good personality. Highly appreciated! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I have wanted to try House of a Curries for a long time. I intended to go to the one on Sacramento but it was closed. We got paneer tikka masala, naan, rice, and vegetable samosas. The samosas were the only thing with flavor. The curry was almost laughable. They were no flavors other than cream of tomato soup. Zero spice. I had placed a takeout order when we arrived to bring home to family. I ended up cancelling it when we got our food because it was so bad and I didn’t want to waste anymore money. I feel kind of bad because the people running it were really nice. When asked how everything was, I just said “great, thank you” - I didn’t have the heart to tell the truth. It was $60 out the door with the tip - way too much money for disappointing food. The real mystery is where are all these other reviews raving about the food coming from?! I’m truly stumped. Is the other location better and I picked the wrong one? I gave it two stars because the food didn’t make us sick at all, but rather lacked any flavor, and the staff was warm and friendly.

Worse restaurant ever. I ordered achari chicken and Karahi chicken to go with tandoori roti and butter. The achari chicken and Karahi chicken both were exactly same dish. Both chickens had uncooked sauce and could feel the tangy sauce. The rotis were so hard and without butter. I called restaurant to ask for refund and they refused it. Avoid this place at all times. I threw everything and wasted by $47. Attached pictures for reference if someone can tell me difference in two dishes.
Left irritated. The mango lassi was watery and the flavors were just okay in one dish and disgusting in the other. Everything (silverware, to-go boxes) was self serve which felt lazy and tacky. The place didn't feel clean and the lights may have well have been off.

I usually have great remarks regarding indian food in general. This is only my opinion and it was made during the pandemic when only take out is really an option : 1. Grubhub didnt have an option to purchase rice , so I assumed it came with the meal , it did not. 2. When I called to ask, the person was not helpful at all . He seemed to feed off of telling me im wrong and I made a mistake ( either way , make sure you order rice with your meal here ) . 3. The food isnt better than any other indian restaurant ( but this could be because I at my curry with the subpar naan with no rice!) . 4. Be careful there are many unaffiliated house of curries places around town so dont call or go to the wrong location !
I used to love this place, not anymore. Been a customer for 15-20 years. Came here for lunch, and I was looking at the lunch menu and I asked the cashier if I can have chicken masala only. I guess he gave me the dinner entree with rice, but clearly I wanted the lunch special bc I was looking at the lunch menu- not cool. The food wasnt great, the chicken in the masala is a little tough and the sauce was a little bland and sweet. I'm so annoyed, You think charging me a dinner entree for lunch is cool, guess this will be my last time coming here. Bye
